When the price says + it mean additional things can be added. Shaping, crack, repairs, type of fill it is (I get gel-x or forms in XXXL so my nails start at 70), also you got product on your toes as well. I used builder on my toes, but either way your feet will be more than simply gel polish. Show us the actual nails and feet then we can decide.

What did I do wrong with blooming gel?
Hi everyone. I've been doing my own builder gel nails for the past year. I've creeped on people's posts and followed the advice of others but looking for more advice/constructive criticism please. This is my first time trying blooming gel and French tip. I'm dominant right handed. Forgive the light, it makes the color and blooming gel nail pop out more. *Did I do my apex correctly? Tips on how I can make it better if I did not. *Did I not use enough blooming gel? Or not enough color polish? * Any easy tips (besides practicing) for my non-dominant hand? * Any tips on French tip application. I hand painted it and it looks streaky. Thank you in advance! submitted by /u/Mfmsono to r/Nails [link] [comments]

To builder gel or not to builder gel?
I recently started going to an independent nail tech (thanks to yall) and I was able to grow out my nails naturally (picture of October 2025 included at the end). I’m absolutely obsessed with getting my nails done now! I have a nail appointment coming up and I’m strongly considering getting builder gel. I don’t really know much about nails so I wanted to see if you guys could help me decide. Reasons why I think I should get builder gel - I work with my hands a lot so I need something durable - I have kids and pets - I’m pretty rough/clumsy and knock my hand on everything Reasons why I think I shouldn’t get builder gel - my nails are already pretty strong at this length and I’m not trying to grow them out more - it’s expensive Things I’m not sure if matter or not - I loooooove to pick my cuticles and my nails - I work out a lot Also, what does builder gel look like when removed? Does it make your nails week? Please help me decide!! Thank you!! submitted by /u/peppersandcucumbers to r/Nails [link] [comments]

Carpeted pine stairs → sanded and stained wood (first woodworking project from start to finish)
Listed below is a very rough explanation of the process, what was used, materials, etc. This was actually not an expected project. We had someone in our previous townhome and left it in pretty bad shape when they moved out and got some reason I suggested I could stain and finish them. Lol. The steps are just standard builder's grade yellow pine steps. We ripped the carpet off because it was covered in dog p3e and various stains, and at first we were going to put carpet back on but the cost was pretty daunting, and we worried it'd just need to be replaced again in a couple years. The steps already had bullnoses on them though, but that was basically the only plus. Haha. Besides stains, they had tons of carpet tack strips (some rotting from animal p3e), nasty tack and nail holes, glue, and friendly fire wall paint all over them. I'd never done anything like this and had zero idea what I was doing. I didn't find a lot of support or help from woodworking forums, as my questions were either ignored or people just said things like, "don't do it." and "Pine doesn't stain well." Basically I just had to do tons of research on my own and fumble through it and try things. Anyway, an orbital sander with 40 and 60 grit discs was amazing. The specifically purple ones though (I guess I can't mention brands?). Like 80 grit seems to leave the wood closer to others' 120 or 180 grits. Super confusing. Anyway, I saved a few levels using that kind, and I'm now a huge fan. Pine is crazy soft, so the purple discs got my treads glassy smooth by 120. If I'd gone any finer, I'm sure I'd have burnished them. I was going to go with an oil based Java gel, but long story short, I went with GF water based stain in espesso, and I'm very glad I did. I used the oil based gel on something else and honestly I hated it. Also we tested a few other big-box-available stains, but of course I ended up with one that nobody carries in stores. I attempted pre-conditioning on one step and it actually made everything much worse for some reason, so I ended up with just straight water based stain and several coats of satin poly. Also, the pine sucked the color up like nothing else. You read that you leave it on 30 seconds or so... Nope. Basically I had to apply and wipe off or they'd have been black. I actually had to lighten some up by sanding again because they were too dark at first. Grey scotch pads between poly coats were something I found out way too late. Not until I wash doing the oak steps, which really sucked. They would have made the between-poly-scuffing waaayyyy faster and easier. Boxed disposable microfiber rags were the best way to apply the stain because I didn't need too much, and no brush marks, and just throw them away. Sponge brushes and regular brushes were meh. I used a regular decent quality synthetic brush for the poly, but I'm thinking a good sponge brush would have been better. I've now done the lower level entryway oak steps too, and the difference in how the wood reacts was night and day from beginning to end. Two entirely different beasts. I've learned soooo much in this process. It took forever, but honestly if I'd known how to do it and didn't hyper-research every tiny step, it would have taken a fraction of the time. But I have no idea how to quantify the hours at this point :( It has like 6 coats poly, and yeah I know it's not as durable as oil, and YES I KNOW IT'S PINE so it's not going to last 3 decades, but we're okay with that. We figure whatever is there will need to be fixed up when the next people move out anyway. We also may put some carpet treads on them for safety and to help keep them from getting as beat up as fast. We really liked how they turned out and I'm throwing this up here in case others run into the same option/issue we did with this and are scared off by people telling them not to do it. You definitely need a lot of stuff, and there are definitely a lot of variables, but if you're considering it, you should do it. And even if you do screw something up along the way, everything can be fixed :) submitted by /u/greyyeux to r/DIY [link] [comments]

Thanks to @itsfuckinganna for recommending this place in Tokyo, Japan. Usually do my own nails with solid gels so this is a first for me. What am I doing wrong with builder gel? Unhappy with the shape
I feel like they look like claws and curved from the side view too much. These have been on since August so lifting isn’t an issue. I was planning on fully taking them off to check my nail health then replacing them so please if you have advice or just tell me what I’m doing wrong. Is builder gel actually good for nails?
I completely messed up and did a full 12 months of gel nails last year. I wasn’t really paying attention and was just floating through life. But when I went in December my natural nails were like paper. So, I cancelled the gel, and just had her remove everything so I could take a break. My issue is, I had my nails constantly done for work. I work with a lot of wealthy, high end clients, and the industry expectation is to be put together in every way. If anyone were to look at my gel nails they would have thought them natural. - my vibe is long, strong, healthy polished nails. Light/neutral colours. At the minute, they’re bare, and a bit mixed. I’m using sally hanson hard as nails, along with a nail oil. But they look like crap. I thought builder gel was “good”/better for nails, but then my research shows it has to be taken off completely every time? Surely that can’t be healthy. So, I guess my question is - is it actually healthy? Would my nails strengthen and heal under it? Or what can I do while I heal my nails to get them looking polished and professional? I know it will take months for them to heal. I know they’re breaking as they’re growing out. So what can I do? submitted by /u/ChampagneDividends to r/Nails [link] [comments]

Self taught / Amateur work - Saving up for Nail School
Hey everyone! I’ve been a lurker here for a while, and I’m finally brave enough to post. I have zero formal training, but I’ve been obsessed with nails for about a year. I’ve been keeping up with a lot of Russian and Ukrainian nail pages/tutorials. practicing solely on myself and my sisters to keep things safe while I learn. I’m currently working a side job to save up the tuition for beauty school because I really want to get my license and do this the right way! These photos are my recent work. I got all three of my sisters to sit down and I produced 3 sets the whole afternoon. First one got a builder gel overlay on her natural nails. Second also got an overlay, looking to grow out her nails. And third challenged me a bit. I did poly gel using dual forms. Most of products I use are from Pink Mask. Since I don't have an instructor yet, I’d love some "brutal" constructive criticism. Are my shapes consistent? Is the structure safe? Do you think I have enough natural talent to make it in the industry? Please let me know what I should focus on improving while I keep saving for my kit and classes! submitted by /u/dani_phany to r/Nails [link] [comments]

mango nails using 3d builder gel 🥭
Here are all the techniques I did to make these juicy guys: • airbrush to create the gradient colors using orange, scarlet, and a lime green (you get to determine how ripe you want them!) • clear rhinestone gel for the water droplets • sliced 3d structure gel to give a cut mango effect (used e-file to clean and tidy up the lines) • sculpted 3d structure gel to create the leaves • painted the white netting with white gel and sprinkled acrylic powder on top to give more dimension and texture (after topcoat) submitted by /u/anncakez to r/Nails [link] [comments]

My builder gel is peeling from the tips and edge 4 days after having them done. She wants to charge me additional $20 to fix them
She said her builder gel or gel never lifts. This is my first time having stiletto shapes done by her, I usually do almond and only do overlays on my natural nails. She insisted I do builder gel this time when I had my nails done 4 days later, they’re lifting at the tip of the nails and on the edge. Should I just pay the $20? Do you typically charge to fix someone out of the clients control? I don’t know a whole lot about nails, since I’ve always done overlay as recommended by her for my goals: keep natural nails and at their length. I guess I’m asking what is the etiquette for the client and nail tech? Thank you! submitted by /u/seriously_thoughh to r/Nails [link] [comments]

Can someone explain builder gel to me like I’m 5?
Is builder gel just a base? Do you put your regular polish on top of it? Do you remove it after awhile or just fill it? How do you do a polish change without destroying it? So many questions. First Builder Gel Set! I’m in LOVE!
I am so excited about this set and so proud! When I embarked on this DIY journey I didn’t think I’d end up falling down the builder rabbit hole, but here I am 🤣 I have pretty sturdy nails to begin with, but I cannot BELIEVE the strength the builder added! This is the longest my natural nails have ever been, and I’m loving it. This was first time I’ve used my efile to remove old product and do cuticle work, and I’m really happy with how it all turned out. I still have room to improve and grow in my comfort level, but my cuticles have never looked this clean! Constructive criticism welcome please! I used Orly Gel Fx BIAB. I’m happy with the apex on both pointer fingers, (which kind of seemed to turn out perfect without me really doing anything lol), but I feel unsure if the rest are okay? I felt like the other nails still looked a little too flat even after floating a bead of gel down the nail and self leveling. I experimented with an extra layer on my left middle finger to try to even it out and it ended up way too thick, so that’s something to work on next time! submitted by /u/spicytonkotsu8 to r/DIYGelNails [link] [comments]

I’m never touching builder gel (or any kinda gel) ever again.
Just to clarify that I’m not against anyone using gel for their nails; but it just didn’t pan out well for my nails and Reddit seems like the perfect place to let out some steam. I've heard tons of folks swear by gel as a savior for their natural nails or as a protective shield. I decided to give it a shot with builder gel for about a month, and man, did they stick! I followed all the application instructions to a T, but when it came time to remove them using the usual methods, disaster struck—my natural nails decided to break free (literally) in the process. 😭 Now I'm kicking myself because it means I’ve to start growing out my natural nails all over again. On the bright side, I’ve discovered that keeping my nails hydrated with my own DIY jojoba and vitamin E oil blend, along with using a regular nail polish for protection, has helped me achieve a decent nail length. Any other tips or advice to prevent breakage would be greatly appreciated, thanks! submitted by /u/issausernameiguess to r/longnaturalnails [link] [comments]
