BIFL CAN OPENER RECOMMENDATIONS (I'll pay anything at this point)
Metal cans have been a common household food storage method for over 100 years. So why am I doing battle with pumpkin puree and wondering whether Libby may have finally gotten the best of me? Why am I winding up using a screwdriver or knife to snap and pry off the buzz-saw-louie-esque lid after 5+ minutes of wrenching and swearing? There has to be a better way out there somewhere. I never had this issue in the 90s, but I've been through easily 10 can openers in my adult life and thrown them all out in rage, often in two pieces. I don't want an electric one, but I'd happily pay $50 for a regular can opener that actually works. submitted by /u/Remote_Anteater_2267 to r/BuyItForLife [link] [comments]

Manual Can Openers That Actually Last
If you want a can opener that won’t quit on you, the old-school manual ones are surprisingly tough. EZ-Duz-It, Swing-A-Way with vinyl handles, and some OXO models have been running for 10+ years for folks here. Key things I’ve learned: keep it clean and dry, lube the gears occasionally with food-safe oil, and don’t just muscle it—let the blade work through the lid smoothly. Electric openers can be fine too, but for longevity and minimal hassle, a solid manual opener with a replaceable or sturdy blade is hard to beat. Vintage or well-reviewed OEM-style units often outlast cheaper modern knockoffs, and the OXO smooth-edge type is quiet and consistent if you want something civilized in the kitchen. submitted by /u/RecordingFlashy1686 to r/ProductQuery [link] [comments]

Can you combine the Oxo with the Pulsar and Frankenstein it?
So if you take a pulsar for pourover, but then after you put the coffee in you decide- you know I'd rather have a soup today, can you just remove the shower drip top of the pulsar and place the pump part of the oxo on it? With the Oxo, If you don't tamp the grinds and you don't use the pump... you basically have a tricolate- right? And the pulsar is just a tricolate with an close/open valve. Such are the existential questions that plague me in the wee hours of the night. submitted by /u/More_Passenger3988 to r/pourover [link] [comments]

Can Opener
I'm sick of can openers lasting a few months! Why is everything junk nowadays and you can't trust 4.6 star reviews. Literally got another can opener this month, used for one can. Today I'm baking using lots of condensed milks and it wont turn. It was Kitchenaid, $16, 4.6 star, like 5k reviews. Please I just want a quality manual can owner. Previous one was Oxo. Suggestions please ty submitted by /u/Certain_Tangelo2329 to r/Advice [link] [comments]

I’ve gone through 3 can openers—what’s the most durable one?
If you’ve ever battled a flimsy can opener that skips, rusts, or flat-out breaks, you’re not alone. Many of us grab whatever’s cheap and available—only to be back in the market months later after another busted blade or jammed gear. A can opener might seem like a simple kitchen tool, but when it fails mid-recipe, it’s a frustrating reminder that not all gadgets are created equal. Most people cycle through a few subpar models before realizing that durability actually matters here. Cheap openers often use soft metal for the cutting wheel and weak plastic in the handle. The result? Stripped gears, dulled blades, and sore wrists. Some people switch to electric models, which can be bulky and unreliable over time. Others dig out that old church key style, which works in a pinch but requires brute force and steady hands. So, what’s actually built to last? One standout is the Made in USA EZ-DUZ-IT manual can opener. It has a thick, heavy-duty gear system, sturdy chrome-plated construction, and a comfortable grip. Another top choice: the OXO Good Grips Smooth Edge opener, which offers a safer, no-sharp-edges design with a solid build. If you’re tired of tossing another opener in the trash, invest in one with all-metal gears and a replaceable cutting wheel. It might cost more upfront, but it’ll save you the hassle (and your wrists) in the long run. Bottom line? The most durable can openers are the ones you don’t have to think about—because they just work, year after year. submitted by /u/James_ss_2 to r/ProductIntel [link] [comments]

A safety can opener that will last a long time?
I had this safety can opener from Henckels: https://riverbendhome.com/products/zwilling-j-a-henckels-37160-038-pro-tools-can-opener-sc50427-1003560 and it was great but after about a year and a half of daily use it ended up dull and hard to use. Then I got this one from OXO: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000079XW2?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_3&th=1 And its held for about three years now but its much worse, it takes longer to open cans and it will not actually open cans with taller rims like Kirkland brand tuna cans. So I end up needing to open those cans with the backup P-38 bottle opener and I end up with all these sharp edges and frustrated. Does anyone have a safety can opener that will last me more than a few years and will be able to open any standard kind of can? submitted by /u/ToxicRainbow27 to r/BuyItForLife [link] [comments]

Tin /Can Opener Recommendations
I'm looking to buy a new tin /can opener, something that'll last a while. I've not had any problems with any that we've previously purchased and this last cheap generic one we have is possibly 10-15 years old but it's starting to slip a little and needs replacing. I've seen a few which have good reviews but I thought I'd ask here first for opinions. These are the main contenders but I'm open to any and all others, especially if you have them in your kitchen and can recommend them! OXO can opener is a piece of junk
Followed the advice of so many people here to buy the OXO can opener. Bought this one from Amazon. I was apprehensive seeing all the plastic. It’s been by far the least reliable worst can opener we had. I don’t think it’s even been a year, and a piece of plastic inside that holds the gears under the rotating handle in place snapped rendering the whole thing useless. submitted by /u/JamesVirani to r/BuyItForLife [link] [comments]

are can openers BIFL???
wondering if a can opener can really be BIFL, since the metal will probably degrade over time and use, right? if it IS BIFL, i will invest in an OXO one, as i’ve heard people rave about it and it’s been super smooth the few times i’ve used one. submitted by /u/ImpressiveChance9734 to r/BuyItForLife [link] [comments]

Can opener conspiracy
My mother still has the same shitty can opener she probably bought at Kmart in the 1960s and my memory of it was that it always worked. I've had about 3 in the last 10 years and they have all been shit - I've read all the reviews then get the one they recommend but it never seems to latch on and spin the can properly or cut properly. I've had the Zyliss lock and lift and a few others that have been rated highly but unless the cans in Australia are different or I've been unlucky, they have all sucked. I just read a long thread of recommendations from redditors, and it seems invariably someone will gush about their Oxo or Kuhn Rikon and then people commenting below say they have the same one and it sucks. What gives - is there a good one that still exists? submitted by /u/jamwin to r/Cooking [link] [comments]

Can someone please recommend a can opener
I’ve been through three in as many months… I don’t know if Costco cans are harder to open, but they just keep breaking! The most recent victim is an oxo submitted by /u/The-state-of-it to r/Cooking [link] [comments]

Why are can openers so utterly crap?
No matter how many expensive can openers I buy, the only ones that work properly/don't break straight away are the crappy 1970s ones. ETA: a comment here has just reminded me that for the last 23 years I have lived with a VERY heavy-handed left-hander who is almost certainly contributing to the problem. It would still be more cost-efficient to replace the can opener though, so I will be trying the Oxo and/or the Kuhn. Thanks all 🥫 submitted by /u/goosiegander to r/AskUK [link] [comments]

Can openers that don't suck??
I have to believe this well-pantried group has lots of experience in this area. Can anyone recommend a can opener that actually does the job, isn't a flimsy piece of crap, and is low tech (i.e. doesn't have lots of complicated parts that introduce points of failure?)? TIA! ETA: Thank you so much for all your helpful recs; I'm unreasonably excited for my next can opener! submitted by /u/chickens_and_veg to r/TwoXPreppers [link] [comments]

Hand held can openers
Why is it that every hand held can opener I have bought, are absolutely junk? I have tried Swing-a-way, Kitchenaid, OXO, TFal... all failed rather quickly. If someone could point me to one of high quality, I would appreciate it. submitted by /u/ChubRub68 to r/Cooking [link] [comments]

The best can opener ever. Hundreds and hundreds of cans opened, easy to turn, never falls off the can, no rust, still sharp. EZ-DUZ-IT. The best $12 you’ll spend on kitchen stuff.

The sub is ridiculous. You even have a "recommendation" for a BIFL *can opener*.
...and you were fucking right. Got my Swing-A-Way can opener off of Amazon for like $8 or so. It's so much better than my old $15 one that I just threw away because I couldn't get the thing to fucking turn. The first turn on my Swing-A-Way I almost sent the can flying because I was expecting to CRANK it. So smooth. Much glide. Wow. Cheers! Edit 1: ITT: People super pissy about "BIFL" and can openers. submitted by /u/HeIsMyPossum to r/BuyItForLife [link] [comments]
