[WTS] Moving out sale: Men's Bottoms - Patagonia, Janji, Prana, Carhartt, Saxx Pants & Shorts
Currently in the process of moving into my truck after my sister bought me out of my late mother's house. Help me afford gas to my office in Vegas because my plan was decided on before prices went through the roof! Prices do no include shipping or fees. Open to offers on everything within reason. Combine and save. Will also be posting a collection of gear and women's clothing. Posted tops already. ----- Shorts ----- Janji Trail 8" Half Tights - Men's XL - Ridgeline Green - Bought these to keep me warm one night chasing the northern lights in Alaska. Haven't been run in. Tired of "paper-thin" workwear—sent a letter to Carhartt to see if they still make the real stuff.
For the last couple years Carhartt was the only brand whose pants didn't feel like a $150 fashion statement or paper-thin disposable fast fashion. I'd do everything in these: cutting logs, stonelifting, bike parks, backyard workouts, casual dinners, etc. I'm a woodworker, biker, and strongman athlete and put my gear through the wringer. After my latest pair of Rigby Double-Fronts (stretch fabric) failed on their first outing (pilling and chafing int he crotch after a 40min family hike), I felt I had to reach out to them directly. It looks like the manufacturing moved to a different region, and the performance went with it. I’m hoping to get some clarity on whether they’ve become purely "lifestyle" showpieces or if they still have the rugged gear I fell in love with. Letter attached. Curious to hear if you guys are seeing the same thing with the newer Pakistan-made runs (the "good" pants were from Bangladesh with darker stitching), and if there are any of the durable old canvas left in rotation. submitted by /u/surfreak to r/Carhartt [link] [comments]

The REAL reason your boots look like “clown shoes”…
Hello all, I sometimes see concern here and elsewhere that people believe their feet are too big for certain styles of boots, or that their boots look like “clown shoes” to them. I am here to make a case that it’s not your boots - it’s the pants you wear. I say this as a firm believer that, generally, anybody can wear anything as long as they understand the “design language” that the boots, shoes, or clothes come from. Don’t worry about your body type beyond the arbitrary number of your measurements, I say. Photos 1 and 2 are hastily-taken photos of me wearing my well-worn Thorogood moc toes with skinny pants vs. Carhartt canvas work pants. My body is the same, but the skinny joggers make my feet look massive in such a way that you might blame the chunky boots. On the other hand, the Carhartt’s much wider leg is proportional to the chunkiness of the boots, and the two complement each other well. This wide leg pairs well with the boots for multiple reasons. The first reason is function and durability - skinny jeans need at least a little stretch fabric for your legs to not be trapped in a denim cast. The problem with this stretch fabric is that it’s generally less durable than if it were made with 100% cotton. This is much less of an issue with wide leg pants, as the width allows freedom of movement without compromising on durability, allowing pants like my Carhartts to be made of 100% cotton canvas. Photos 3 and 4 show PNW loggers following this same logic in a world that did not have stretch fabric. This is the second reason why chunky work boots practically beg for wider pants: cultural context. You might see some slim pants at the workplace today, but for most of modern history, the working man wore wider pants. These boots and these garments evolved alongside each other, and by respecting that history, your boots will avoid clown shoe syndrome. Practically speaking, I suggest at least an 18 inch circumference leg opening - laid flat, the leg opening should measure 9 inches across. That’s my rule of thumb, you can go a little under or over. For reference, my Carhartts pictured above are about 20 inches around (10 inches across), and my boots are a size 8.5D. So should you burn your skinny jeans? I did, but you don’t have to. Skinny jeans are much more of a fashion piece than a functional garment, and need to be worn with appropriate fashion-oriented boots. Generally, boots with a dressy, narrow, often pointy-toed shape like the ones in photos 5 and 6 are best for skinny pants. Historical context returns in this case, as this combo often gives a rebellious vibe that arose naturally out of rock-n-roll aesthetics. Indeed, they are boots and jeans like that of a working man, but the then-transgressive silhouette betrays the notion of conformity that blue collar work suggests. The leather biker jacket also pairs nicely here - of course, biker culture is a tangential movement to all of this, but that’s beyond the scope of what I’m talking about here. I hope I’ve provided at least a little help when styling people’s favorite boots going forward, and that people take their closet into account when assessing the fit of their boots. TL;DR: Chunky boots look like clown shoes usually because they’re worn with skinny or slim-fit pants. Wear wider leg pants with the big work boots, and save the skinny jeans for the narrow, pointy Chelsea boots. Going forward, consider where the boots “come from” in history, as that will inform you best as to how they’re “meant” to be worn. submitted by /u/Historical-Assist510 to r/Boots [link] [comments]

I need ACTUAL high waisted utility pants
unfortunately I am learning that many pants labeled as high waisted are just midrise. I caved and started using amazon recently, but their search function is complete crap. The filters don't work. I am looking for HIGH WAISTED (like ribcage high or sky high) utility/carpenter pants (NOT cargo pants!) Tool pockets on the leg, with or without hammer loop. double fronted KNEEPAD INSERT COMPATIBLE. If it comes in short, even better! I prefer cotton, but stretch is fine. size 10/12 ish, obviously sizes are inconsistent across brands. don't say carhartt, their only hw pants are not what I'm looking for! and I'm sick of my ass hanging out of their regular low waist work pants when I squat down, which I do 500 times a day. If I hitch them up and tighten my belt so they actually stay up, it squeezes my guts badly when I squat down. I know high waisted pants will fix this if I find the right pair. It will also help prevent thigh blowouts from my pants sagging and rubbing together. I need the double front kneepad pockets as I crawl around on my knees all day at work. I don't have a huge ass, but a thick waist and thick ish thighs. Thank you for your input everyone!! submitted by /u/rhymes_with_mayo to r/BlueCollarWomen [link] [comments]

Made-in-Japan cargo pants similar to Carhartt WIP Aviation pants
Hi! We're planning a trip to Kyoto, and I'm looking for some cargo pants similar to the Carhartt WIP Aviation pants. I do have a few requirements, but I don't know if something like this exists: - summertime fabric - all natural fabric (no stretch or anything synthetic) - slim, not baggy (note that Carhartt WIP Aviation pants are somewhat slim, although the thigh is a bit too big) - available in colors other than camouflage or drab/olive green - not an elastic or fitted hem - made in Japan Do you know of anything like this? Thanks! submitted by /u/_SlowRain_ to r/japanesestreetwear [link] [comments]

Searching for replacement for discontinued Carhartt & Scrubstar lines of scrub pants
I've been lurking for a few months, but this is my first post! I'm currently in nursing school (ABSN) and I've also worked in microbiology for 6 years. I LOVE my Force Cross-Flex Utility Boot Cut Cargo pants & my Force Cross-Flex Jogger pants. I also love my Scrubstar Fashion Premium Performance Yoga boot cut pants. I have worn both these lines until the stitching is falling apart (& repaired a few times) and now the fabric in the butt is wearing out. They're not for school, we have wonder work everyday durable stretch comfort and I'm convinced they fit NO ONE. Does anyone know a good replacement for these lines? Similar in size/fit and/or fabric? For an okay price point? Thanks in advance! submitted by /u/ExoticCarolBaskins to r/nursing [link] [comments]

Carhartt WIP Marlow Pants - 525 Days First Wash
Bought these on Black Friday, November 24th, 2023 for something like $50 at the Carhartt WIP store in Los Angeles before going to Japan for a week. I haven't worn them nonstop, but would often go pretty decent stretches of time where they were the only pants I wore. They're 33x32 which is a bigger waist and longer pant length than I would usually wear, but I thought it would have been crazy if I didn't buy them for how much they were. I'd say they're about 2 inches bigger than what I would normally wear in the waist and they're length always left a really nice, loose-fitted stack. submitted by /u/TheJangoLegacy to r/rawdenim [link] [comments]

10KG SAL Haul | 10+ Fit Pics | Text-Style In-Depth Review | 1688 finds | Represent Carpenter Pants/Taco Bell/OnlyFans/Lakers/TNF Denim/Rhude Hawaiian Shirt/Carhartt Cargos/Jordan 1 ROTY/Bone Dunks/Polo Bear + More (PandaBuy)
For those that don't want to read the whole post: HAUL: Rhude Mclaren Shirt is missing because I bought it for someone as a gift Fit Pic Album: Fit Pics Now for those who are interested in the in-depth review: I would appreciate an upvote if this post helped you as it took me many hours to make. If you have any questions leave a comment and I'll gladly help you out. Haul Overview: This Spreadsheet has every item's WTC, weight, and price (with shipping factored in): Haul Overview Package:- Weight: 9360g - Shipping: SAL to Canada, Arrived in 13 days (delivery info), Shipping cost 523 Yuan Stats - Height: 185cm | 6ft 1inch - Weight: 80kg | 175lbs | Muscular/Athletic Build (we go jim) Pants 1688 Represent Carpenter Pants | Size L (TTS) | 175 Yuan | W2C | QC | FITS | IN-HAND | 10/10 These pants are amazing. I posted a find and GP'd since I thought these were the same as Husky and other batches and I can say the quality is great. They go so well with any fit and feel premium and comfortable. They are made of a semi-stretchy material that helps them fit well, for example, the size L fits me perfectly and I normally wear a 32 in jeans. I would recommend measuring your favourite jeans and then comparing them to the size chart, as that worked perfectly for me. In terms of accuracy to retail, I don't really care, but from what I have looked at online, they look nearly identical. One of my favs from the whole haul. 1688 Cheap Corduroy Pants | Size XL (SIZE UP) | 27 Yuan | W2C | QC | FITS | IN-HAND | 7/10 I got these because they are insanely cheap, and for their price, they are actually quite good. They have a nice baggy fit with drawstrings at the bottom that works well, and the material is somewhat soft and comfortable. The waist is really stretchy so I got XL based on the length and can just stretch the waist to fit me. The reason these got 8/10 is that they feel a bit thin/flimsy (would be a great pair of summer pants), but that is to be expected for 27 yuan. Carhart Zipper Cargo Joggers | Size M (TTS) | 158 Yuan | W2C | QC | FITS | IN-HAND | 8/10 These are very good quality and at a reasonable price. The material is very comfortable and all of the zippers work great. The reason these are scored 8/10 is that they were one of my first purchases and I didn't follow the size chart and got an M when I should have gotten an L. They still fit, but they are just slightly tight around my thighs. Pretty sure these are fantasy, but idc regardless no one is calling out Carhartt. 1688 Yeezy Season 6 Sweats | Size S (SIZE DOWN) | 100 Yuan | W2C | QC | FITS | IN-HAND | 10/10 THESE ARE SO SOFT. For 100 yuan on 1688 I thought this was a lower quality batch, but these are extremely thick, soft and with working zippers. I am going to wear these insanely often and their colour is a nice earthy grey that works well with pretty much anything I would want to wear with it. I was worried about ordering a size small since I thought they wouldn't fit, but the size chart didn't lie and S fits me amazingly. In terms of accuracy to retail... They are grey sweatpants that I bought because they were cheap, high quality and had a nice fit, I do not care about accuracy to retail. Shirts Taco Bell Dog Shirt | Size 3XL (SIZE UP) | 49.80 Yuan | W2C | QC | FITS | IN-HAND | 10/10 Sorry ladies, the Taco Bell shirt stays on in bed. The blank is super thick and following the size chart, I got the oversized fit I wanted. The print doesn't feel cheap and hasn't shown any signs of coming off in the wash. Probably going to wear this everywhere with any fits, it was everything I wanted when I bought it and an easy 10/10. OnlyFans Shirt | Size XL (SIZE UP) | 65 Yuan | W2C | QC | FITS | IN-HAND | 10/10 Pretty much the exact same as the above shirt, very thick, very cheap, very good quality print. I personally love the design and will be wearing this shirt a ton. 1688 Rhude Hawaiian Shirt | Size L (TTS) | 60 Yuan | W2C | QC | FITS | IN-HAND | 9/10 There was no size chart for this shirt so I just went TTS and luckily it worked out. I bought this with the intention of wearing it to parties and during the Summer, and it perfectly meets my expectations for that. The material is quite comfortable and lightweight for the Summer. The only two things that were off about this shirt are that the buttons don't have Rhude branding and the back print is a slightly lighter shade of white than retail, but realistically no one is calling either of those out. Small flaws like that are fine, especially since the shirt was only 60 yuan making it a 9/10 for me. Late Registration Shirt | Size M (SIZE DOWN) | 85 Yuan | W2C | QC | FITS | IN-HAND | 10/10 There isn't much that I can say about this shirt that hasn't been already said in this sub. I have worn it once and got multiple compliments. It is a comfortable, thick, high-quality print, relatively cheap and overall an amazing shirt. Must add to any haul. Vintage Lakers Championship Shirt | Size 2XL (SIZE UP) | 56.8 Yuan | W2C | QC | FITS | IN-HAND | 10/10 Another amazing shirt in this haul. Once again an extremely comfortable and thick blank with a high-quality print that hasn't come off in the wash. The only thing that is slightly off about this shirt is some small misspelling on the roster on the back, but no one is realistically calling that out. I would recommend sizing up twice for an oversized fit and getting the regular sizing option not the off-shoulder option, as the shoulders already were dropped since I sized up. 1688 Rhude Mclaren Shirt | Size M (TTS) | 55 Yuan | W2C | QC | NO FITS | 10/10 This shirt I bought as a gift for my brother, so I don't have any fit pics with it, but I can say that the blank felt very thick, the print was good quality and hasn't come off in the wash. For sizing, M is his TTS and it fits perfectly. In terms of accuracy, I looked on grailed at retail, and the logo placements and colours seem pretty solid, the only scenario it might not hold up is if someone has retail right beside it, but that's realistically not happening. 10/10 especially since it was 55 yuan Hat Polo Bear Skiing Hat | One Size | 58 Yuan | W2C | QC | FITS | IN-HAND | 10/10 The embroidery on this hat is extremely nice, with no loose threads or weird-looking letters or anything. I really like the design with the bear skiing and think the beige goes well with other pieces in this haul. Compared to google images of retail it looks pretty spot on. Overall nothing bad to say, it's just a hat easy 10/10. (Also the metal thing on the back has the correct branding) Hoodies/Jackets TNF Demin Jacket | Size M (SIZE DOWN) | 228 Yuan | W2C | QC | FITS | IN-HAND | 9/10 This is extremely heavy and thick. Very high-quality materials and a nice oversized fit (can layer it over a hoodie) even after sizing down. I think this is fantasy but all of the buttons and tags look good with TNF branding, the only flaw is the patch on the arm says THE NCRTH FACE instead of NORTH but it's hardly noticeable and I personally do not care. Scoring it at 9/10 because of that though. Nike Centre Swoosh Hoodie | Size XL (SIZE UP) | 78 Yuan | W2C | QC | FITS | IN-HAND | 10/10 Pretty sure this is the super-budget batch of this hoodie but honestly, I can not tell. It is one of the softest hoodies I own, while medium-heavy/warm. The Swoosh is passable and the hoodie fits nicely and is oversized. Don't care about retail because no one is calling out a Nike hoodie. Love this cheap piece 10/10. 1688 Yeezy Season 6 Hoodie | Size M (SIZE DOWN) | 125 Yuan | W2C | QC | FITS | IN-HAND | 9/10 Once again probably one of the softest and thickest hoodies I own. I bought this mostly for the cropped and dropped shoulder fit and the hoodie fits perfectly for that. The price is amazing and the hoodie only has one small flaw the colour slightly doesn't match the sweats, but I don't really plan on wearing them together anyways. It's a cheap, well-fitting, comfortable hoodie... 9/10. Shoes DG Batch Jordan 1 ROTYs | Size 44.5 | 270 Yuan | W2C | QC | FITS | IN-HAND | 9/10 My mind is blown by the quality of these for around 60CAD. These are extremely nice and compared to retail on google they look very good for the price (Swoosh, shape, wings logo and suede all good). These have one small flaw in that one of the Nike Air tags on the tongue is permanently bent in so it is a 9/10 for that but it is not really noticeable on foot, and if anyone gets that close to my shoes they are catching hands. VT Batch Bone Dunks | Size 44.5 | 199 Yuan | W2C | QC | FITS | IN-HAND | 9/10 Once again I am very impressed with the quality of these for only around 45CAD. They are comfortable and look very close to retail except for maybe the slightly green tongue (making these a 9/10). I am not the best at QCing dunks but the Swoosh, toebox and Nike all look good to me. These are going to become daily beaters so I am not too concerned about small flaws regardless. PandaBuy Review: As someone making their first haul, Pandabuy made things extremely easy for me. I was worried shopping with an agent would be difficult but it really was as simple as pasting the link into Pandabuy and letting the agent do the rest. The individual agents were great (Shoutout Rock Lee) and when I returned items or asked for measurement QC pictures it was always done within a day. QC pics were high quality and when I asked them to stretch out the waist and then measure my pants they understood which was nice. Rehearsal and shipping were done quickly and without any difficulties, which was one of my main concerns as a new user. I would highly recommend Pandabuy for anyone new to reps and I would be willing to help new people out with Pandabuy if you comment or message me. Thank you for reading to the bottom, I tried to make this as in-depth as possible to help anyone looking to buy any of these items. If you have any questions leave a comment and I will reply as soon as I can. One last pro tip - always remember to use the size chart and cold water wash and hang dry your reps submitted by /u/TP_ki to r/FashionReps [link] [comments]

Bought Carhartt Rugged Flex Relaxed Double Front pants - will the waist stretch out?
Got these pants, they have a little spandex stretch in them. The waist is a little tight - I'm wondering if it'll stretch out (like other non-Cahartt jeans and chinos I've had), or if I should go up a size. submitted by /u/wayneswingle to r/Carhartt [link] [comments]

Quality BIFL women's/unisex brands thread?
The threads I'm finding are a bit older, so I'd love to get a thread of all brands that are BIFL for women's shoes, clothes, outerwear, etc. I've found that even some brands that are BIFL for men don't last nearly as long in the women's versions (I'm guessing the increased stretch in women's clothing is one factor, and that women's clothing tends to be thinner.) And while I tend to dress like a 12 year old boy most of the time, sometimes I like having clothing that is better fitted and designed for my body, so I like to get women's specific clothing. NOTE: I'm not vetting these brands any further, just listing the suggestions given. I'm hoping to come back in the future and do a more in-depth look at all the brands and make a more detailed list. Also, not all of these brands will work for everyone! For example, as much as I want to love Salomon shoes, every pair of sandals and boots I've gotten from them has given me blisters--they just don't work with my foot shape! However, if you have evidence of a company listed having a significant decrease in quality across all their product lines, let me know and I'll remove it! The best relaxed trousers — 13 bought and tested
We find ourselves living in a new normal, permanently working from home. This domestic setting means any kind of formal dressing feels stiff. Equally, I don’t want to wear sweatpants at all times (the delivery man is getting suspicious). Enter the relaxed trouser. I tried out 13 different pairs of relaxed slacks over a number of weeks. The Gramicci Gramicci Pants came out on top with their comfortable fit, versatile styling, extensive colourways and functional details. I also like the premium feeling and cosy Albam Ripstop Drawstring Trouser, and the great value of the Community Clothing Men’s Cotton Chino. Best overall Gramicci G Pant A versatile, comfortable, and affordable pair of trousers with a diamond gusseted crotch, and built in nylon belt. Its understated look and traditional cotton twill fabric belies is outdoor Japanese lineage. $90 Gramicci was a brand started in the early ’80s by a young climber named Mike Graham — the name was an Italian spin on his surname. Their early products were a pair of shorts and pants with some unique features, notably a diamond shaped crotch gusset to allow for movement, and a built in nylon belt for tightening or loosening the waist. It was a brilliant and widely copied innovation, and most outdoors companies have had a stab at it, but the Gramicci G‑Pant is the original and it remains a great pant. Like any great piece of work or sportswear, the G‑Pant has the edge of being designed for function and feels both solidly built and extremely comfortable. It also comes in a dizzying array of colours and variants due to its rebirth as a Japanese based clothing brand rather than the more functional and anti-fashion approach of a traditional outdoors brand. The pricing is reasonable at £75 pounds a pair and it’s widely available in a huge range of colours and fabrics. What I love most about it is its flexibility. The fabric is a fairly traditional twill so you can wear it like you would a smart pair of chinos but the nylon belted waist is and gusset crotch means it has the utility and comfort of a pair of sweats, and the minimal technical details means it’s just as good paired with a contemporary trainer and oversized sweatshirt. In fact, I wish I’d known about these when I was a 16 year old skater as I would gone crazy over the tapered/relaxed fit and comfortable, worn in fabric. It beats the hell out of the insanely stiff Dickies or Carhartts that we were wearing. Downsides My only issues in terms of the product itself was sizing. Presumably because they serve primarily the Japanese market, the G‑Pants come up small and I would definitely size up if you’re in between sizes. In transparency terms I could also find nothing to help me figure out the brands environmental or production credentials. This isn’t uncommon for a Japanese brand unfortunately, but it would be nice to see some basic information for customers attempting to make an ethics driven purchase. Also good Albam Ripstop Drawstring Trouser A premium feeling and supremely comfortable pair of pants available in some beautiful colourways. A visible drawstring detracts from an otherwise great garment. $99 The Albam Ripstop Drawstring Trouser has a fantastic loose, tapered fit with a premium feeling washed ripstop fabric (the sort of gridded fabric used for some military garments). With a small crop and and easy waist, I felt like I was wearing a pair of pyjamas. It was also on the more affordable end of the premium market at just under £100. That extra money buys you a notably better finish than the top pick, the Gramicci Pant and European production. The deep indigo blue, forest green and pastel shade colourways are also genuinely unique. The big downside for me was the visible drawstring in a contrasting ecru, which gave the trousers a slightly crunchy/hippieish look that was at odds with the finish and shape. I think they were going for 70s sportswear. I can’t help but wish they’d gone for a more technical drawstring or kept it internal for a cleaner finish. The latest versions of the style by the brand have done exactly this and I look forward to trying them out, especially in the wool fabrics of their AW20 collection. Budget pick Community Clothing Men's Cotton Chino A shockingly good price nets a very high quality and sharp looking pair of trousers. Made in UK heritage mill Brisbane Moss but the nature of Community Clothing means availability can be an issue. £59 This is a great trouser, at an incredible price. £59 gets you a product made in the UK, in a quality British cotton drill, from heritage UK mill Brisbane Moss. It feels like something you could easily sell for twice the price. The fit is fantastic, with deep, flattering pleats, a loose shape, and a gentle taper from the knee. What I love is the versatility of it. If your style leans classic, it would look great with a shirt tucked in or a piece of lightweight knitwear and some leather boots or derbies. If you’re more contemporary or streetwear orientated, with the cuff rolled up and pair of vans or converse and an oversized t‑shirt, you’ve got the perfect pair of kick around trousers. They also don’t have a drawstring so they are probably the easiest to smarten up of our top picks. The downside? Well, basically they are hard to get. The brand produces them in 3 colour-ways (olive green, navy and a light tan which we tested) but they only make them when there is downtime in their factory — the brand is part of an initiative by designer Patrick Grant to keep factories operating between fashion collections. This and disruption from the coronavirus pandemic means that they’ve only been available in a very limited run of colours since the beginning of our review period, several months ago. Representatives of Community Clothing say that the sizes will be restocked soon. Basically, if you can get ahold of them, these are great value for money and were a strong contender for our top pick. What to look for Availability: We wanted to make sure that I could find something that would be available year round. Range of colours: We wanted a trouser that was available in a decent range of neutral colours, in order to work as a wardrobe staple. Fabric: For our relaxed trouser, fabric was key. How it held up to being worn around the house and how it felt sitting long hours at a desk was essential. This meant primarily cotton in hardwearing qualities like twill and drill. These had to be easy to wear, clean and ideally get better with age. Fit: Relaxed essentially, but what does that mean? Well in practice we tried everything from cropped and tapered high waisted trousers to pleated, drawstring and hybrids of both in our hunt for the most comfortable WFH fit. The fits would mostly be somewhere between straight and an easy taper. Versatility: We wanted a trouser that could do smart in a pinch but didn’t seem stiff when paired with a sweatshirt or a hoody. Easy Care: The best pair of relaxed trousers had to be ones we were comfortable getting dirty in, whether cooking, putting out the trash or doing basic DIY, we didn’t want them to feel precious. Price: We figured that to be a staple you had to be able to afford multiple pairs. The price should probably sit somewhere between £50-£150 max. The competition The Studio Nicholson Bill Pant is a premium take on a straight leg work pant, and at £220 topped out our selection of trousers. You could feel the quality in the fabric, finish and moleskin-like brushed fabric, but the high waist tends to dig in a little if you sit in them for a long stretch and the fabric is a bit on the fussy side for an everyday trouser. I was excited by the Garbstore Work Easy Pant. The brands AW20 collection has some ace looking fabrics and this drawstring work pant in a Japanese cordura fabric looked really interesting. The finishing and quality of the trouser were good but I’m not sure they justified the price tag and fit-wise they came up surprisingly tight/slim for this kind of style. Expensive for what it is. The Oliver Spencer Judo Pant is a mainstay of the brand. They are well made in a brushed organic cotton, and manufactured ethically in Portugal. They almost made it as a top pick and I was really torn over including it alongside the Albam pant. But with a more tailored appearance and high waist it felt a bit too neat for this category and £50 more expensive than the Albam style. The Oliver Spencer Workers Trouser are similarly well made as their Judo Pant brothers, but were a bit of a disappointment. In the words of my wife “it isn’t sure what it wants to be” and I think that’s about right. It has a military style cargo pocket, loose straight leg and drawstring waist which are in theory great but feel like a lot going on when you are wearing them. The Universal Works Baker Pant is a long running style by the brand and I was really happy with them. A smart drill fabric, high waist and loose curved hem meant that they felt much more like a tailored trouser than a casual chino. That said they are great quality for the price and a good option if your looking for a smarter relaxed trouser. The Entireworld Cotton Pleated Trouser (Type B, Version 2) was a disappointment from a brand I really love in theory. The fit was surprisingly slim for pleated pants, and I’m not sure the welted pockets on the front or flaps on the back pockets really worked with this kind of style. I was fan of the almost oxford style Japanese fabric that the trouser was made of but on the whole it felt like a timid take on a pleated trouser. If you’re still in slim styles and are looking to branch out this might be a gateway style for you but I can’t help but wish they’d been a bit more daring with it. The Stan Ray OG Painter Pant is exactly that, a faithful take on the US workwear style, done in a coarse off-white raw cotton material and made to last with triple stitched seams. It felt authentic, stiff and not particularly comfortable. I really like how it draped through the leg. I would 100% size up on this style and it took time to break in. Cool but at £80 feels steep for such a basic utility garment. Filippa K’s Toby Trouser is their minimal Scandinavian take on the relaxed trouser and I really really liked it. It was made of a nice mid-weight twill in a wolf grey colourway. The neat flat front with a fly is a nice touch on a drawstring trouser and it felt like a versatile item. It's especially good value at £65 and the brand has some great sustainability credibility, showing the factories that each garment was produced in. The Dickies 874 Work Pant is the original workwear trouser and…well it feels like it. I can’t believe I used to skate in these, they are so coarse and stiff to break in, and admittedly they feel great once you get there (though the stain proof fabric is pretty damn sweaty). They also feel indestructible and are pretty affordable at around £40 but I’m too old to have pants this uncomfortable. They also come up small with a high waist, so size up if unsure. The Uniqlo Vintage Chino is the brand’s loosest fitting, never out of stock item and it’s got a lot going for it. The brand has clearly aimed to get all the details of the classic mid-century American chino right and update them for the contemporary consumer. The fabric, the finishing on the inside of the trouser and details like the ticket pocket were really well executed. Shape wise though, this is more like a slim taper than a truly straight fitting chino and I see it as the perfect trouser for a guy who wants to loosen up but is scared off by pleats and drawstrings. Great value at £35. This is a new guide from Typical Contents, the “wirecutter for clothes”. It’s by the team behind Epochs, a now defunct menswear blog.
