[Meta Trope] Characters that represent a franchise's early installment weirdness
Essentially, this trope discusses characters from the early days of a franchise whose very existence, appearance, or function clash with how the franchise currently runs. Roshan (Ice Age) - Ice Age 1's main plot focuses on reuniting baby Roshan with his tribe of fellow humans, which sticks out like a sore thumb when putting that plot up against the other sequels. Unlike the sequels, Ice Age 1 prominently featured humans in the franchise's backstory. The reason Manny the mammoth is so surly is that human hunters killed his previous family, while the main antagonist, Soto, wanted to kill baby Roshan due to wanting revenge against humans. However, in the sequels, humans are basically non-entities, making Roshan and his fellow humans a clear example of early-installment weirdness. Annie (League of Legends) - Annie is an example of a design that doesn't fit with modern League of Legends aesthetics. While a few champions like Cho'Gath, Zilean, Amumu, and Corki have outdated models as well, they still fit with the game's aesthetic, but Annie is a special case. Even with their outdated models, the likes of Corki and Zilean still fit with the game's current aesthetic of mixing high fantasy and steampunk technology, with a dash of cosmic horror for good measure. While modern-day technology does exist, it's mainly in the form of robotics, and not so much attire, which takes inspiration from several past civilizations put through a fantastical filter, from Ancient Egypt, to industrial revolution era Europe, to Nordic times, but LoL has never made attire modeled after the modern day. Annie, with her more contemporary schoolgirl uniform, cat ear headband, and child's backpack, sticks out like a sore thumb due to this anachronistic design. Creeper (Minecraft) - The current creative leads of Minecraft have once stated that the iconic Creeper goes against modern Minecraft design philosophy, but they keep it due to being grandfathered in due to its iconic status as the game's mascot. Creepers, while not looking out of place aesthetically, do look out of place mechanically. Unlike other overworld mobs, who simply damage or harass the player, the Creeper's sole purpose is to destroy. Its iconic ability to blow up the terrain around itself goes against the game's modern philosophy of encouraging building and being creative. The other mobs that can damage structures, like Zombies breaking down doors, or Endermen carrying blocks, only damage on a small scale and in a way that is easily repairable, but with the Creeper, one wrong explosion can destroy an entire build, again going against Minecraft's current design philosophy. submitted by /u/Feeling-Ad-3104 to r/TopCharacterTropes [link] [comments]

Things in my house keep mysteriously melting???
1: I don’t use this water bottle anymore so it’s just been sitting in my house for a while and I’ve noticed the lid’s plastic becomes weirdly sticky and moist (?) so I stopped using it all together because it was grossing me out. 2 and 3: I was cleaning my house just now and my hand accidentally grazed the faux “leather” part of this Jansport backpack I’ve had since high school, I thought maybe somehow my evil cat had managed to shit on it but the entire bottom part is melting????? 3: this morning I went to use my toothbrush and noticed the entire handle was sticky. My toothpaste tube a little bit too. What the hell. Literally what. More context, I live in a newly built tiny home heated by a minisplit. I keep the heat at a reasonable 73°F. It’s been cold out recently. Don’t know if that’s relevant. Uhhh I don’t know what else could possibly be useful here. There’s no mold as far as I’m aware of. Air circulation is not great because the windows haven’t been open but there are multiple vents to outside and I keep the bathroom vent on almost all the time except at night because of the noise. My landlord told me to do this. I don’t know. What. What the fuck. submitted by /u/hugedisaster to r/whatisit [link] [comments]

Wondering about pros/cons of taking my cat outside in one of those cat backpack things?
Hey everyone! My cat loves the outside - any time I open a window she lounges in it for hours. I want to give her the experience of being outside in a safe and controlled way, so I was thinking about buying one of those cat backpacks with a glass bubble or mesh for her to experience the world a little bit. Anyone have any experience with these? Whenever I’ve had to transport her in the car via a carrier she’s meowed a lot (and she’s usually very quiet so I take this as a sign she’s not super happy with it) and I don’t want this to just be another version of being put in the carrier for her. Another fear of mine is that she’ll like it TOO much and become overly attached to it. When she's accidentally gotten let out into the hallway of my apartment building, she's spent a while meowing at my door like she realized there's more to the complex and now NEEDS to see it again. How do I even know if she likes it or dislikes it in the first place? If she meows like she does in the carrier, does that mean she’s not having a good time, like I assume it does for the carrier? Thanks everyone! submitted by /u/Lavaswimmer to r/CatAdvice [link] [comments]

Do cats actually enjoy those backpack carriers?
Anyone else tried those cat carrier backpacks? I was reading a review earlier and was honestly surprised that their cat Milo actually fell asleep inside the backpack the first day it arrived, and later went on his first hike without any drama. I always assumed cats would panic being zipped in, but apparently the mesh windows and padded base made him feel safe enough to just chill and enjoy the ride. Now I’m wondering if my indoor kitty would tolerate something like that too. He’s curious about the outside but has never really gone past our backyard. The idea of him peeking through the windows while I walk sounds adorable, but I don’t want to traumatize him either 😅 Has anyone here introduced their cat to a backpack carrier? Did they adapt quickly, or was it a total no-go? Any tips on making it a positive experience for a nervous indoor cat? submitted by /u/Junior_Cut4025 to r/technomeowcom [link] [comments]

I want to take my senior adventure cat on walks with my dog (he is always jealous when we leave the house). 12 lb American Shorthair. We live in Southern California and during the summer it can get quite hot, so I would want one with good ventilation, but where he has a good view of the scenery. Best Cat Backpack 🏔️
Hi there, I've recently got a MC kitten and would love to bring him on my outdoor adventures: I'm big on hiking and climbing. Unfortunately, I haven't found any backpack that's truly adventure-proof. Most cat backpacks seem to be made of very cheap materials - not to mention they are often hideous. I've checked traditional outdoor brands like Osprey, Mountain Hardwear, Black Diamond, Mammut, Rab, but haven't found any cat-friendly backpack I could use in the wild. Any suggestion? submitted by /u/Scamorzaa to r/mainecoons [link] [comments]

I taught myself to make these fussy little patches a year and a half ago, to cheer myself up while caring for sick cats. Those days have passed, but I'm still making them—I've got dishcloths for life, no more room on my backpack to pin things, and no plans to stop anytime soon.

Opinion on "cat backpacks" to take them with you on walks?
Does anyone have one/use one...? I've always worked at home since having cats, but my last remaining baby (Fena) is 17 and has started to develop separation anxiety when I go out for daily walks now. If I'm leaving the house to run errands I usually dress up a bit more and take my purse. Fena seems OK with this oddly enough but when I just want to go for a walk I don't change my clothes (I always run around in sweats, etc) and don't take my purse. This, Fena HATES now. She'll start vocalizing/crying, following me to the door, etc. I'm only gone for 30 min - 1 hour but when I get back home I can still hear her crying/pawing at the door. Once inside, she's glued to my heels until I finally sit back down to resume work and then she's on my lap like a barnacle. I'd just recently heard about these "cat backpacks" from various companies and I wondered if that might be something Fena would like? She's been an indoor cat for most of her life. The friend I got her from who couldn't keep her (he was moving and she was estimated to be about 5 years old at the time) said he found her on the streets when she was little. Would it be a good idea to try this? What are your experiences/thoughts on this? Thanks! submitted by /u/Horses_Run_Free to r/cats [link] [comments]
