Cheap, basic moisturizer and face wash
Hi! I am trying to put together a skincare routine for my combination, reactive, sensitive, dehydrated, non-acne-prone skin. I am in my thirties and I have never had a skincare routine because products haven't worked for me—my pores clog very easily, and my skin irritates easily too. I can't even shampoo in the shower anymore (this wasn't always like this; maybe my skin barrier is damaged). However, I am now in a position to afford trying several products (albeit cheap ones), so I am doing research again. Can someone recommend a cheap, very basic moisturizer and face wash for my sensitive skin. Unfortunately, since I have never had a skincare routine, I don't have much experience with ingredients and lack information, but I have tried the following products. Face washes that have clogged my pores in the past: Cetaphil (new formula) CeraVe cream cleanser Vanicream Gentle Facial Cleanser Bulldog Skincare Cleanser Eucerin Gel Cleanser (I react to cocamidopropyl betaine instantly) Face washes that I have not reacted to: Cetaphil (old formula) Avène Cleanance Gel (but it left my skin feeling tight) Moisturizers that have clogged my pores: The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA Moisturizers that have not clogged my pores: La Roche-Posay Toleriane Ultra Cream (unfairly expensive) Thanks a lot for your help!!! This has been very hard :( submitted by /u/ddzoid to r/30PlusSkinCare [link] [comments]

[Acne] I started washing my face and immediately broke out.
Started washing my face about a year ago and been getting more acne ever since. I’m 24. Started washing my face at 23. I had always had very good skin and never had any major acne problems but would on occasion get spots in my T Zone, like everyone else. I didn’t wash my face prior to 23 because every time I tried I had immediately started to break out. This happened with every product I used. I broke and decided to start washing my face at 23 because a friend shamed me into it and I figured maybe my occasional non dramatic zits would go away. First she started me on some Korean skincare avocado cleanser from Sephora, which immediately gave me zits. Then I tried Cerave’s foaming facial cleanser, which was better at first. Right now, a year later, I have three dramatic zits on my face, as well as a small smattering of teeny weeny white heads all over my cheeks. They’re so common it almost blends in with my freckles, but they’re not freckles. This isn’t atypical on my current regiment. The big zits come and go just as they did before I started washing, but the teeny weeny white heads are eternal now. At this point I genuinely think my face wash is causing the acne by breaking down the good bacterial barrier I used to naturally have. That said now that the habit has set in I feel unclean when I don’t wash my face and I’m afraid to stop using my cleanser all together. What should I do now? Do I stop washing my face and see if the acne goes away even if it makes me feel gross? Also using metronidazole cream to help with the redness but idk how well it’s truly working. The rosacea/redness started about a year before I started to wash my face after I got a sunburn; not sure if it was coincidence or causation. submitted by /u/BoldlyBajoran to r/SkincareAddiction [link] [comments]

Can’t find a face wash
Hi all! Long story short: the past year, I developed very severe acne and my skin became super sensitive. However, I can’t go on accutane bc of other meds I’m on, so I’m on 0.05 tretinoin. It’s been going fine, but I’ve realized no face wash works for me now (this started before the tretinoin, so I don’t think it’s related). Cerave breaks me out BAD, and vanicream, cetaphil, and la roche posay all make my skin extremely red and itchy. Idk what’s going on bc I’ve never had a problem before. I just need a very gentle face wash that will not break me out or upset my skin. Also, I’m not having any problems with any of the moisturizers, just cleansers. Any recommendations??? I’m desperate :( Budget is not an issue I will pay or do anything pls pls help 😭😭 thank you!! submitted by /u/rocketbasil to r/acne [link] [comments]

Face wash help - hear me out
Update: I tried the prequel gleanser and vanicream cleanser - not for me. I've settled on the la Roche possay toleraine and cosrx ABC toner with kiehls moisturizer. So far - it is the first thing with niacinamide that hasn't destroyed my face so I'm gonna give it the old college try for a while. I have some others on my list to try from all you beautiful folks out there if needed. thank you so much for your opinions and help. I appreciate every one of you

Takes forever, but gets better. Trust the process.
Now vs. Then (September 2024) I've had oily, acne-prone skin with plenty of hyperpigmentation since I was a teen. But it was mostly hormonal acne, and it was never anything like that second image. That was some kind of infection that I think I got from swimming in very unclean water. At first, I spent like a month using overly harsh cleansers and actives, washing my face too often, not eating in a way that could help my body fight the infection off, not drinking NEARLY enough water for the healing I wanted to achieve, and basically just making everything even worse. Then, when I finally saw a dermatologist, I was initially given doxycyline and clindamycin, but I was NOT making the best of it. I was playing around eating a bunch of dairy still, not putting on sunscreen (and not re-applying often enough when I remembered to), and still using harsh facewash and toners because I thought they would help (spoiler: they did not). So it felt like I just kept applying and applying for like three months and not seeing any sort of improvement. I was literally living my entire life outside with one of those covid masks on every single day because I hated the thought of being seen so much, and yet I still wasn't doing the best for myself. Thankfully, I ran across a youtube video about "things you don't realize are hurting your skin" and actually listened to it properly for once, then did a bunch of research (though I still made mistakes ngl) and changed my habits. This is a list of steps I took (copied from my reply to a different post): I used a clean cotton shirt on top of my pillow case and changed it literally every night because the oil and bacteria leftover plus my hair products were just too much for my skin to fight I tried to drink at least 10 glasses of water with a day, more if I could (like I literally used alarms on my phone to remind me) I used benozyl peroxide 10% face wash every morning (\NOTE* - this was one of the mistakes! Apparently I should've been using it only at night!)* (ask your dermatologist first, sometimes there are combined benozyl peroxide+tretinoin creams you can use instead, but using them as separate products might require only using one in the morning or something, it depends) and only the cerave gentle cleanser at night I bought hydrocolloid bandages and cut them to fit specific parts of my face and used them every day, at home and under a mask when outside, sometimes even changing them two or three times a day (these are the big version of acne patches) I used sunscreen (SPF 50 PA++++, I use a Korean brand called singmulnara/식물나라) daily and reapplied regularly even tho it felt greasy and just un-fun sometimes I cut down my dairy and sugar consumption to as little as my happiness could tolerate I started taking bromelain supplements because they're anti-inflammatory I didn't use any exfoliating actives or physical exfoliation until like eight months in when my skin was a lot better I only moisturized with cerave, sometimes with a drop or two of a niacinimide and cica serum in my hand before I applied it Those are the main steps that made a HUGE change in the initial healing, and after around four months of this, my dermatologist put me onto a low dosage isotretinoin (10mg, twice a day) that did some serious heavy lifting in getting rid of the last of the acne. There were a few times long after the initial "purge" worsening period when I'd just get a huge cyst overnight seemingly, but I was able to go in for steroid injections directly into the pimple that just magicked them away within a few hours (and yes, it was absolutely mind-blowing every single time), or other times I put a tiny bit of the paula's choice benozyl peroxide gel directly onto it as soon as I noticed it forming and that usually made it go away. I just finished with the isotretinoin at the end of January. My current routine: Day: Cleanser: Cerave Gentle Cleanser Toner: ROUND LAB 1025 Dokdo Toner Serum: I rotate through these - APLB Glutathione Niacinimide, APLB AHA BHA PHA Centella, APLB Kojic Avid and Vitamin C (note: I currently live in Korea so these are more convenient, but when I go back I will be using Medicube serums if I can't get them probably) Moisturizer: Cerave Moisturizing Cream (in the tub) - I use a plastic makeup scoop instead of my hands to get a bit out and drop the serum into it Sunscreen: Singmulnara Light Watery Sun Gel (note: I will probably switch to ROUND LAB when I get back to America, I am fully convinced by Korean skincare at this point) Night: Cleanser: ROUND LAB 1025 Dokdo Cleansing Oil, then Cerave Acne Foaming Wash (10% Benozyl Peroxide) Toner: ROUND LAB 1025 Dokdo Toner >> I always do a Face Mask at night (yes every night) for 10~15 minutes, just any random one from those bulk face mask packages (like the Dermal ones) with the occasional premium one from Medicube Serum: the same ones I rotate through in the morning, as above Moisturizer: Cerave Moisturizing Cream (with serum mixed in) Random Other Things: I still drink hella water, and I still change my pillowcase frequently (and my towels, I have a separate one only for my face and I never re-use them after I shower, I'm like traumatized or something tbh). I still take the bromelain, but I'm probably gonna stop when this bottle runs out. I take collagen supplements in the morning. Sometimes I smear my whole face with a thin layer of aquaphor at night if I feel dried out for some reason. Also I keep my face masks in the fridge because the freezing cold mask after a hot shower is supposed to be good, and it does make my nose less red for a while. And I use a pimple patch the moment I see even a tiny dot of red anywhere on my face, even if it hasn't even itched yet, because why risk it??? But yeah. This is just to share progress, and to say that it does get better and you can overcome your acne, but it may take some lifestyle changes and it DEFINITELY takes a lot of consistency and actually listening to medical advice. And... A hella long time. submitted by /u/sinkintothesea to r/Blackskincare [link] [comments]

fellas is it really not masculine / effeminate to use face wash and moisturizer - how do I convince my brother???
as title says, my brother needs some help and I genuinely want to understand where he's coming from. He's only just turned 18 but has had pretty bad acne, like physically painful, for the past 2 years. He's also been raised exclusively around women his whole life, so I think he's put extra pressure on himself to present masculine/ be macho, whatever that might mean for him, because we don't talk too often as we have such different interests. he's a gym rat so he's sweaty all the time, will compromise with deodorant but any time I offer some innofensive cerave face wash to clean his face, he retorts that he will 'deal with it like a man'. I've replied back, 'its still masculine to clean your face', and he scrunched his face and furrowed his brows at me but I am absolutely clueless as to how cleaning your face can be peecieved as effeminate. Can you guys chip in and offer some ways I can have an effective conversation with him about just general maintenance in that sphere without 'effeminating' him, or why he may feel like this? I haven't been there for him when I've needed to be so I want to make sure I can steer him in the right direction without completely alienating him which I have done in the past. submitted by /u/mercmmerc to r/AskMen [link] [comments]

HUGE update
Hi loves! I went to the dermatologist today because i woke up out of sleep crying from pain. and could not go back to sleep even after taking a benadryl!! it was that painful. turns out it was an allergic reaction to the mupirison which made my face 10x more inflamed and irritated. she also diagnosed me with Pyoderma Faciale. We think this is caused by the bacteria from strep that i had in November. (my face has been that bad for that long!!!) it now makes sense why i was misdiagnosed so many times and no one knew what the issue was and why no antibiotics or steroids were curing it. also makes sense because i got this OUT OF THR RANDOM!!! i have huge cysts all across my jaw line that are so tender and painful. she prescribed me 40 mg prednisone for 7 days, then 20 for 7 days, then 10 for 7 days, then 5 for 7 days to hopefully help the pain and inflammation. I am still taking accutane but only 10 mg once a day until the end of march then back to 20 mg a day and then april 1, i have a accutane appt to up my dosage. i am so happy i finally have an answer even though its not the answer i wanted. i am so worried its going to scar super bad since it went untreated for a couple months but ill take scars over painful cysts. i will give constant updates. my skin care routine is - Cerave hydrating cream to foam face wash, Cerave healing ointment and that’s it lol. i don’t go outside so i don’t use sunscreen yet but i will when it gets warmer and my face heals a bit. i also do ice bowls and soak my face in it to help. i was directed to not use any harsh things on my face during this time. if you have PF or have any suggestions on what i should add/take away from my routine let me know! i also take my accutane with a fish oil and claritin! submitted by /u/jocelynnjewett to r/SkincareAddicts [link] [comments]

[Personal] washed my face with hand soap by accident lmfao
Context: I’ve had awful greasy and flaky skin for around 2 years now. I’ve tried everything and spent way too much on face products based on advice from on here and those around me. I also have eczema and sensitive skin so am rly limited in my options. Cerave foaming cleanser has been the best for my skin but the grease always comes back by the end of the day or waking up. I also use a basic water-based E45 cream after which is the best choice for me. Basically - I was exhausted last night (uni is kicking my ass) and instead of rinsing off my handwash I glitched and wiped it onto my face 😭 washed it off and put my regular moisturiser on bc I just wanted sleep. Woke up this morning to the best, softest, smoothest skin I’ve had in months 😭 It’s not greasy or flaky and I’m so conflicted and just wanted to share because.. tf?!! Why is a £2 aloe Vera antibac handwash doing better than the £15 face wash I’ve been using whyyyyyy submitted by /u/dehydrated-soup-bowl to r/SkincareAddiction [link] [comments]

Update
Hi sweet people, unfortunately i don’t have a huge update but it’s been a couple days. tomorrow will be a week since i have started antibiotics and steroids. it is SLOWLY getting better day by day. I did have to cave and wear makeup (that’s the only way i’ll leave the house) because my uncle passed away. since the medicine, there has been no new spots or burning anymore! i take keflex in the morning, after noon, and night time. i take the prednisone together in the morning. i completely cut out pop and candy (my addictions) and use cerave face wash and moisturizer along with tower 28 spray. this is not the pace i wanted it to heal at but thank God it is healing. I personally don’t see improvements but im very hard on myself BUT my family & friends do. I will update in a couple days. Thanks for following ❤️ (also if you have any advice to help it heal faster please let me know, without food dieting because i’m not doing that). [PSA] Counterfeit CeraVe Face Moisturizer on Amazon
TL;DR: Be careful when buying CeraVe products on Amazon. I purchased a bottle of the CeraVe PM Face Moisturizer a few months back and received a fake. Important context: this product was sold through the official CeraVe Amazon store, but fulfilled by a third party (WS Global). So, in hindsight, it is my fault for not making sure it was shipped and sold by Amazon - I will definitely be doing so going forward. The appearance of the fake bottle (on the right) was very similar to the genuine bottle (on the left). In comparison to the genuine bottle, the fake bottle was: - Slightly taller and slimmer - Had a low-quality (cheap feeling) nozzle - Washed out text in certain areas - Washed out “oil-free” label (the most noticeable difference) As a long time user of this lotion, I wasn’t able to tell it was fake until I actually applied it on my face (it was greasy, and not at all moisturizing). I’m glad I caught it early on, because who knows what ingredients are in this thing. I also created a review on Amazon describing the situation (very similar to the contents of this post), but it was swiftly rejected because it somehow violated the community guidelines. So, I’m posting here instead to try and spread some awareness. submitted by /u/DisgruntledYoda to r/SkincareAddiction [link] [comments]

[Misc] Unpopular opinion: “Just use CeraVe” is the new “Just wash your face”
I HATE CeraVe, I mean I really really hate their products with a passion. I have tried all their products for sensitive skin and they all make my skin burn. Furthermore, I also hate the cult following that CeraVe have. Sure, their products are recommended by doctors, but another recommendation by doctors is to exercise a minimum of 30 minutes three times a week. Saying “just use CeraVe” would in comparison be like saying “just go for a 30 minute run three times a week, that’s all you need”. Some people have goals which going for a 30 minute run will never help them achieve, and others have health issues which makes them unable to go on a 30 minute run. For some reason it’s ok to reason this way about skincare, whereas in other areas it would be somewhat ridiculous. To me it also seems like the new “just drink more water” or “just wash your face”, which is nothing more than a way to simplify something which is probably a complex issue and ends up putting blame on the individual with the issue. Since they are not doing this one simple thing, they are also at fault for having this issue. Also, just like going on a 30 minute run three times a week would be good for your body and would probably make a lot of people feel better, I understand that CeraVe has done the same for many. However, I still believe that CeraVe is a highly overhyped mediocre brand that doesn’t deserve the cult following that it has. submitted by /u/spider-man-666 to r/SkincareAddiction [link] [comments]

[B&A] Stubborn fungal acne on my chin and jawline. After pic is after 3 days of doing nothing but washing my face with Head and Shoulders shampoo.
Repost because I forgot to put the photos in my first post 🤦♀️ I had stubborn acne (I believe it’s fungal acne, but I did not see a dermatologist to confirm this) that didn’t respond at all to acne spot cream or my usual Cerave Renewing SA Cleanser. After doing some research, I paused all my morning and nighttime skincare and only washed my face with Head and Shoulders shampoo (Green Apple scent) in the shower for 3 days. Nearly every bump is gone. I am so happy I could nearly cry. I’m thankful that all that acne was concentrated under my chin and jaw, but it did a number on my self confidence when I think about all the times people could probably have seen it. submitted by /u/shesthunder to r/SkincareAddiction [link] [comments]

Eye. Cream! Last night I washed my face and removed eye makeup as usual, but didn't apply hyaluronic acid serum or eye cream. I took the 1st picture. This morning, I did my hyaluronic acid serum on very damp skin and did my CeraVe Eye Repair Cream. 2nd picture. No filters, no photoshop, no editing.

[Product Question] Did not know Cerave being trash was such a common take. Been using their face wash for years, is there a different gold standard face wash I should try for oily acne prone skin (That won’t break the bank)?

Just started using cerave hydrating face wash, am moisturizer, evening exfoliation treatment and evening moisturizer. My face is reacting this way… (stings after moisturizing and has some bumpy swelling) what is going on and what should I do?

I’m realizing that my skin likes simple products. This was my skin when my routine consisted of CeraVe face wash, Heritage Store rose water (toner), cheap Olay night cream & Olay moisturizer with SPF as my sunscreen. I’ve been using Paula’s Choice for months, but now I’m going back to this routine.
