OpenAI is removing GPT-5.2 and GPT-5.3-Codex from Codex for ChatGPT logins
OpenAI says GPT-5.2 and GPT-5.3-Codex are being sunset from Codex on June 2 when you’re logged in with a ChatGPT account. GPT-5.5 will become the default frontier model for free plans going forward. They’re not disappearing completely. OpenAI says both models will still remain available through the API. For anyone using Codex regularly, has GPT-5.5 felt clearly better than 5.3-Codex for coding? Or did you prefer having the older Codex-specific model available? submitted by /u/Adi4x4 to r/codex [link] [comments]

"Apps" app is one of the worst things in entire macOS history - and whoever was responsible for it should never engineer anything again
Many people like the “Apps” app solely because it finally removed Launchpad. But the app itself is unrealistically buggy. Funny part - it had NO fixes in almost a year. Almost 0 in 300 days by a trillion dollar company. The list: - Laggy animation upon opening - All icons have to reindex upon reopening, each icon taking ~0.3s to load - Lags when scrolling - Search does not work for most - Categories do not display the right apps - It still shows apps that you hide within the system On top: - It displays duplicates for "recent" and "all" - Nothing can be hidden - Nothing can be rearranged - Nothing can be grouped - Nothing can be renamed - Nothing can be pinned - It can not be resized Even a person with $0.50 budget and a free chatGPT plan would've made a better app, probably within 5 minutes. Trillion dollar company couldn't do it even in 1 year. And yes, most of you use "spotlight", and the right way to use macOS is to pin the "Applications" folder to the dock - yadayadayda. That still does not explain this mess. submitted by /u/DutyIcy2056 to r/MacOS [link] [comments]

My best workflow so far for building projects with ChatGPT + Codex without everything turning into chaos
**Disclaimer: Below statements generated with ChatGPT** I think I’ve finally landed on the cleanest way to build projects with Codex, especially if you’re not a senior developer but still want to move fast without letting the project drift. The basic idea is: ChatGPT is the architect/planner. Codex is the ticket-by-ticket implementation worker. Do not just open Codex and say, “Build my app.” That’s how you end up with scope creep, messy architecture, random dependencies, and a repo you barely understand. Here’s the setup that has worked best for me. 1. Start with planning docs before writing code Before Codex touches the repo, create a small documentation pack. My usual docs are: README.md AGENTS.md docs/Full_Design_Document.md docs/MVP_Technical_Design.md docs/Tickets.md docs/Codex_Prompt_Playbook.md docs/Manual_Verification_Guide.md docs/Repo_Current_State.md docs/Design_Update_Companion.md docs/Known_Issues_And_Followups.md docs/Codex_Ticket_Handoff_Template.md docs/Prompt_Context_Pack.md That sounds like overkill, but it saves a ton of time later. The key ones are: AGENTS.md — tells Codex the project rules every time. Tickets.md — breaks the whole project into small, controlled tickets. Repo_Current_State.md — keeps ChatGPT/Codex grounded on what actually exists. Manual_Verification_Guide.md — tells you exactly how to check each ticket. Prompt_Playbook.md — reusable Codex prompts so you are not reinventing the prompt every time. 2. Build one small ticket at a time This is probably the biggest rule. Do not ask Codex to build five systems at once. A good ticket should be small enough that you can verify it manually in 5–10 minutes. Example: Bad prompt: Build the whole app with generation, playback, save/load, export, and UI. Good prompt: Implement T0001 — Project Skeleton only. Create the initial Vite + React + TypeScript app shell. Do not add playback. Do not add save/load. Do not add generation. Do not add future features. Run the build and report files changed. This keeps Codex from “helpfully” inventing half your app. 3. Every ticket needs guardrails Each Codex ticket should include: Ticket ID: Goal: Dependencies: Allowed areas: Do not touch: Requirements: Non-goals: Acceptance criteria: Manual verification: The two most important sections are usually: Allowed areas Do not touch Those stop Codex from randomly refactoring unrelated parts of the project. 4. Use AGENTS.md like repo-level law My AGENTS.md usually includes rules like: Implement one ticket only. Do not implement future-ticket features. Do not refactor unrelated systems. Do not introduce new architecture unless required. Avoid unnecessary dependencies. Use strict TypeScript. Run build/tests when possible. Report files changed, commands run, build results, and manual verification steps. For my current project, I also include architecture-specific rules like: Keep src/core engine-agnostic. Keep playback adapters isolated. Do not let runtime engine objects become the saved project format. Project JSON is the source of truth. The point is to make the important rules persistent instead of hoping Codex remembers them from one prompt. 5. Keep ChatGPT as the project manager The workflow looks like this: Plan in ChatGPT ↓ Create/update design docs ↓ Write one small ticket ↓ Give Codex that ticket ↓ Run build/tests ↓ Manually verify ↓ Paste Codex report back into ChatGPT ↓ Update repo state/docs ↓ Move to the next ticket ChatGPT helps decide what should happen next. Codex performs the scoped repo work. This is much better than letting Codex decide the roadmap while coding. 6. Require a completion report every time At the end of every Codex run, require it to report: Summary of changes Files changed Commands run Build/test results Manual verification steps Risks Follow-up tickets Docs that need updating This makes it much easier to paste the result back into ChatGPT and decide whether to continue, fix something, or update the docs. 7. Update a Repo_Current_State.md file This is a huge help. After each completed ticket, update a living repo-state document with: Current branch Completed tickets Current folder structure Installed dependencies Available scripts Build/test status Known issues Next recommended ticket Why this matters: ChatGPT may not be able to see your repo directly. Codex may lose context. You may come back days later and forget what changed. The repo-state file becomes the shared memory. 8. Use manual verification, not just “build passed” A passing build does not mean the feature works. Every ticket should have a small manual checklist. Example: 1. Run npm install. 2. Run npm run dev. 3. Open the local app. 4. Confirm the page loads. 5. Confirm the expected UI section appears. 6. Check browser console for errors. 7. Run npm run build. 8. Confirm build succeeds. For later features, add checks for playback, save/load, export, etc. Keep verification practical. The goal is not a full QA cycle every time. The goal is to catch obvious breakage before moving on. 9. Keep a “Known Issues and Followups” doc When Codex notices something outside the ticket scope, it should not fix it automatically. It should report it as a follow-up. That goes into: Known_Issues_And_Followups.md This prevents Codex from turning a simple ticket into a surprise refactor. 10. Use prompt templates I keep a reusable Codex handoff template like this: We are working on [PROJECT]. Before coding, review: - AGENTS.md - docs/Full_Design_Document.md - docs/MVP_Technical_Design.md - docs/Tickets.md - docs/Repo_Current_State.md - docs/Manual_Verification_Guide.md Implement this ticket only. Ticket: [Ticket ID — Title] Branch: [Suggested branch name] Goal: [Goal] Dependencies: [Dependencies] Allowed areas: [Allowed files/folders] Do not touch: [Files/folders/systems to avoid] Requirements: [Requirements] Non-goals: [Non-goals] Acceptance criteria: [Acceptance criteria] Manual verification: [Manual steps] Project rules: - Implement the requested ticket only. - Do not implement future-ticket features. - Do not refactor unrelated code. - Do not introduce new architecture unless required. - Avoid unnecessary dependencies. - Keep changes small and testable. After implementation, provide: - Summary of what changed - Files changed - Commands run - Build/test results - Manual verification steps - Whether docs need updating - Any risks or follow-up tickets That structure alone makes Codex way more reliable. 11. Use branches per ticket For each ticket: main ↓ feature/t0001-project-skeleton ↓ test ↓ merge ↓ feature/t0002-core-model This makes it easier to isolate problems. If Codex makes a mess, you can abandon the branch instead of untangling your main branch. 12. Create skills only when patterns repeat If you use Codex skills, do not create them just because they sound cool. Create them when you keep repeating the same category of work. Examples: ticket-runner design-check core-generation audio-playback save-load export ui manual-verification doc-updater A skill should enforce repeated guardrails, not replace good tickets. 13. The big rule: Codex should not freestyle your architecture Codex is powerful, but it will happily build the wrong thing very confidently. The trick is not “better prompts” alone. The trick is: Persistent docs Small tickets Clear boundaries Manual verification Completion reports Repo-state updates ChatGPT planning between Codex runs That turns Codex from a chaotic code generator into a controlled implementation partner. My simplified rule If I had to boil it down: Design with ChatGPT. Document the plan. Feed Codex one small ticket. Verify manually. Update the repo state. Repeat. This has been the most efficient setup I’ve found so far for building real projects with Codex without losing control of the codebase. **Disclaimer: This is me talking now** ChatGPT can finally efficiently talk to GitHub and see your repos, it can even confirm PR merges for you if you ask it to after it reviews them. I'm sure this is not the most efficient way to use CODEX but I have found it to be the best way yet. submitted by /u/mattcj7 to r/codex [link] [comments]

**Honest question:** Is there ANY model of ANY size that is open source and can compete with Claude (Code) or ChatGPT's (Codex)?
All the open source models I tried are small and work OK with small problems. I understand the limitation of the hardware, context, etc. But say I have a million dollar machine, with 8x B200s in my basement, and over a TB of memory. Today. Do we have model(s) that you load it to it, and have it act with the quality, consistency and reliability of Claude Code or ChatGPT's Codex, using open source tools like Crush and OpenCode? Have you had the honor of trying anything like that? I'm just curious. Not asking because I'm gonna buy it. I'm just curious about the state of the market. TL;DR: Is there ANY model of ANY size that is open source and can compete with Claude (Code) or ChatGPT's (Codex) that you tried? submitted by /u/TheQuantumPhysicist to r/LocalLLaMA [link] [comments]

Has anyone created something like a chatgpt to codex bridge?
First off. Im a hobbyist. I had some basic coding classes when I got my network engineer degree. I just do this for fun. Im not trying to make any money off of this. Lol I use chatGPT as a sounding board to discuss my ideas with, plan, and create codex prompts. I do it like this to save on my codex usage as much as possible. Im a pro user. What Im thinking is something along the lines of maybe an mcp server. I used to use mcpsuoerassistant web extension to connect mcp servers to chatgpt. Where, I can have chatgpt run a command to send a prompt to codex to execute and reply into chatgpt. Just something to take out all the copy and pasting. I know I can have chatgpt create an MD file and have it save it in a repo folder. But I still need to direct codex to it. submitted by /u/xxx_Gavin_xxx to r/codex [link] [comments]

Sam Altman "feels like codex is having a chatgpt moment" ➡️ Do you agree or its hype? Why?

Do you use ChatGPT and Codex together? How do you avoid copy/paste overhead?
Hi everyone—quick workflow question. Do you use ChatGPT (web/desktop) and Codex at the same time when coding? My concern is that using both often creates a “context transfer” step: you end up moving requirements, constraints, and code snippets back and forth (copy/paste, rewriting prompts, re-sending context, etc.). That makes me wonder if the extra overhead actually cancels out some of the efficiency gains. I’m curious how you handle this: Do you split the work (e.g., ChatGPT for design/spec, Codex for implementation), or do you use them more independently? If you do use both, how do you minimize the back-and-forth? Are there any patterns/templates that help keep everything consistent? In your experience, is this combo workflow truly high-efficiency, or would you recommend sticking to one tool most of the time? If you’re willing, sharing a concrete example of how you go from requirements → code → iteration/fixes would be especially helpful. Thanks! submitted by /u/New_Mouse_2773 to r/codex [link] [comments]

Anybody else using ChatGPT and Codex like this for large coding projects?
I’m currently building my project with this workflow, and the biggest benefit is that it successfully freed up about 15 hours of my day and became completely hands-off once I had the loop set up. I know there are other ways to do this, but I have not really seen many people talk about using this exact setup. Tools involved: ChatGPT, Codex, Gemini CLI, Codex CLI, and Claude Code Connectors and access: GitHub, full computer access, and specific apps like Chrome, the ChatGPT desktop app, and Terminal Automations: 1 Here’s the workflow: Step 1: I use ChatGPT Pro reasoning to create a multi-phase implementation plan in extreme detail for a high-complexity project. Step 2: I give Codex full computer access and have it start on Phase 1. When Codex finishes, I send the results back to ChatGPT for review. ChatGPT gives a green light or red light, along with exact guidance on what needs to be fixed. Step 3: The Codex desktop app takes ChatGPT’s feedback and passes it into Codex in the web browser, since the app cannot prompt itself directly inside the app. Step 4: Codex runs on a two-minute automation loop to continuously check for updates, copy results, and send them back to ChatGPT for another review pass. Then I repeat that cycle until all 13 phases, around 28,000 lines of code, are completed, reviewed between every step, and tested from every angle before moving forward. So at this point, ChatGPT is basically acting as the planner, reviewer, and quality gate, while Codex is doing the hands-on build work. The main reason I like this setup is that it offloads a huge amount of the manual back-and-forth. It has been a massive time saver for me, and in practice it has freed up around 15 hours of my day while still keeping every phase audited before the next one starts. Curious whether anybody else is building this way, or if you’ve found a better workflow for large multi-phase projects. submitted by /u/Workperdiem to r/codex [link] [comments]

Codex on ChatGPT Plus… burned 75% of 5H in 20 mins
Was doing some refactoring with Codex — no planning, nothing heavy. Just normal use. In 20 minutes I used 75% of my 5-hour limit. RIP Chat GPT Plus :( submitted by /u/aLka01 to r/codex [link] [comments]

OpenAI is in big trouble
Promised adult mode - now shelved. Launched Sora video generator, landed Disney deal - ended Sora 100 days later. Announced Stargate project - cancelled one year later. Altman once called Al + ads a "last resort" - 16 months later launched ads. Launched in-app shopping with direct checkout - now cancelled. Promised first hardware device this year - now delayed to 2027 per court filings. The only things they still have left are a chatbot (Gemini and Grok are on the path to beat ChatGPT there) and a coding tool (Anthropic is already beating OpenAI there). So after both ChatGPT and Codex slide into irrelevance, nothing will be left. How soon does it happen, what's your bet? Maxed out my $200 ChatGPT Pro (Codex) AND my Claude plan, what are my options? Do multiple OpenAI accounts get you banned?
Hello, Now that OpenAI is really clamping down on usage limits, I’m about to hit my cap on Codex (using the $200 ChatGPT Pro plan), and my reset is still several days away. I also have a $200 Claude setup that I’ve completely burned through, and that doesn't reset for a few days either. What do you all do in this situation? I’ve heard that Anthropic strictly forbids having multiple Claude accounts. Is it the same for OpenAI? Can I just create a second OpenAI account with a different email for Codex to keep developing, or do I risk getting my main account banned? My biggest question right now is whether anyone here has successfully run two OpenAI accounts without getting flagged. Also, are there any smarter alternatives out there that don't involve unpredictable pay-per-request API costs? I really don't want to go back to Cursor, though I realize it might be the last viable subscription option left. I also don't want to use Google's Antigravity IDE, i tried it and it was honestly terrible, even when using Claude or OpenAI models under the hood. Any ideas or workarounds to keep coding without limits? Thanks! submitted by /u/Icy_Piece6643 to r/codex [link] [comments]

Cancelled Claude code $100 plan, $20 codex reached weekly limit. $200 plan is too steep for me. I just wish there was a $100 chatgpt plan for solo devs with a tight pocket.
Codex is way ahead compared to CC, with the frequency of updates they are pushing it is only going to get better. Do you have any suggestions for what someone can do while waiting for weekly limits to reset. Is gemini cli an option? How good is it any experience? submitted by /u/WarriorSushi to r/ChatGPTCoding [link] [comments]
