The Chef Preserve vacuum sealer is the size of a pepper grinder and I kind of love it
Picked this up recently and wanted to share because it's one of those surprisingly useful little kitchen tools. The thing that got me first was the size — it's genuinely compact, about the size of a pepper grinder. If you've ever owned one of those big clunky vacuum sealers that lives in the cabinet because it's too annoying to drag out, this is the opposite of that. It just sits on the counter and you actually use it. Sealing takes about 5 seconds, one button press, and it shuts off automatically. That's it. Works on pretty much anything — meat, fish, veggies, leftovers, dry goods, even pizza slices. The 30 reusable bags included are a nice bonus (15 small, 15 medium). They're BPA-free, dishwasher safe, microwave safe, and actually reusable — so you're not constantly buying rolls of plastic. Better for your wallet and a bit better for the planet. Battery life is kind of absurd — supposedly rated for 1,000 bag seals per charge, which means you're basically never thinking about charging it. Great if you want to toss it in a bag for camping, RV trips, or travel. They also back it with a 60-day money-back guarantee and a 2-year warranty, which at this price point is reassuring. Only downside I'd flag: no dedicated marinate mode like some competitors, so it's more of a pure storage/preservation tool. submitted by /u/Shoulditcom to r/ShoulditDIY [link] [comments]

1st vacuum sealer rec sought - is the Chef Preserve compact one any good?
Hi - I live in a small place and would like to get a vacuum sealer. I would use it for store meat and leftovers in the freezer. I also sous vide once a week or so. The chef preserve gets good reviews on Amazon but seem like paid reviews tbh.... anyone here have one and like it? Any other recs? I realize the bag thing might be a drag. The chamber ones look great but are $$$ and huge. Although freezing liquids/soups would be amazing. Any help appreciated! 12/9/25 edit: I went in a different direction and purchased an Amazon unit branded Beelicious Pro. I tried a friends foodsaver with roll storage and cutter and like it well enough that I was ok with that form factor and size. So pre black Friday I found this Beelicious pro on sale for 99 - still is fwiw (fake pricing to show discount LOL) and I really like it! Worth it to me - no issues so far, but only had for about 3 weeks. I like the double seal feature - just does it automatically if you have it enabled. Pulse mode is nice for softer things. I know it's dumb but I like the countdown timer as well. I hate that it is big'ish , but that is about it so far. Hope this helps! submitted by /u/bigcane_2 to r/Cooking [link] [comments]

Uncover if the Best Vacuum Sealer FoodSaver V4400 Is Worth It
Testing out the FoodSaver V4400 has been quite an adventure in my kitchen. This 2-in-1 vacuum sealing machine is marketed as a game-changer for preserving food, and I’ll admit, it doesn't take long to see why. The shiny silver-and-black design gives it a modern, high-end vibe that blends in neatly next to my other appliances. The machine is fairly compact considering what it offers, measuring about 11 by 20 by 12 inches, which means it doesn’t hog counter space. But let me be clear, it does have some weight to it — roughly 10 pounds, so moving it around isn’t quite effortless. While that isn’t a deal-breaker for me, you might want to plan where this will live permanently in your kitchen. Strengths One of the features that immediately caught my attention was the automatic bag detection functionality. You simply place the sealing bag in the right position, and the machine takes over. The process feels almost magical. I’ve been skeptical of features like these before, but I found this one to be incredibly reliable. Another win for me is the built-in roll storage and cutter. Instead of fumbling with scissors or knives to get the perfect bag size, I just adjust and cut directly on this machine. That small-but-smart design choice saved me endless frustration. Automatic bag detection makes food preservation a breeze Built-in bag cutter and roll storage adds a touch of convenience Smart moisture detection automatically adjusts settings for wet or dry foods Check FoodSaver V4400 price on Amazon. Performance in Use Over the course of weeks, I used it to vacuum-seal various items like poultry, fruits, veggies, and even soup leftovers. It boasts a nifty moisture detection feature that switches to the appropriate sealing mode depending on the food type. I found this particularly handy when dealing with wet foods like marinated chicken. The removable drip tray also deserves a shout-out; it did an excellent job catching spills, and the dishwasher-safe aspect makes cleaning a no-fuss activity. However, sealing liquids directly is still a bit tricky — you have to partially freeze them first, as liquids can mess with the airtight seal. Power & Energy Efficiency Operating at 800 watts, this device is powerful yet surprisingly efficient. I didn’t notice any alarming surges in my energy bill even with regular use. While it does hum quite a bit during the vacuum process, the noise level is tolerable compared to some other clunkier sealers I’ve tried in the past. Let’s just say it won't deafen you over breakfast prep. Pitfalls While I’ve grown fond of this vacuum sealer, it’s not without its imperfections. The retractable handheld sealer for zipper bags, while a great idea in theory, felt a little less robust. It works, but not as smoothly as I had hoped when sealing zipper bags. Instructions for certain additional features could have been more user-friendly. I had to resort to YouTube videos more often than I’d like for guidance, which wasn’t exactly ideal during busy meal prep sessions. Retractable handheld sealer could be more intuitive Steeper learning curve for first-time users Takes up a chunk of countertop space due to its size Market Rivals Comparing this to other vacuum sealers I’ve experienced, I can confidently say the FoodSaver V4400 holds its own. A close competitor I used previously was the Nesco VS-12. The Nesco offered commendable power levels and user control, especially with its customizable sealing options, but it lacked the FoodSaver's automatic bag detection and built-in cutter. The Weston Pro-2300, another heavy-duty rival, took the edge with speed and durability but came at a much heftier price point and lacked a handheld sealer entirely. In terms of versatility and user-friendly automation, the FoodSaver’s blend of features strikes a sweet spot. True Value While the upfront cost might feel significant, I found the FoodSaver V4400 an economical choice in the long run. Using this machine has cut down on food waste substantially. Freezing marinated meats and portioned fruits for smoothies? Absolute game-changer. The machine paid for itself within months, with my trips to the grocery store eventually reducing in frequency. Balancing energy efficiency, durability, and usability, I’d classify this as a smart investment for home chefs or meal preppers. Does the Nesco VS-12 Vacuum Sealer Really Keep Food Fresher Longer?
I had the chance to put the Nesco VS-12 Deluxe Vacuum Sealer to the test recently, and as someone who frequently seals and stores food to minimize waste, I was curious how this vacuum sealer would stack up in my daily kitchen routine. As far as first impressions go, the silver finish and compact style fit nicely into my kitchen while not demanding too much counter space. This model touts a variety of features, and I wanted to see if it could live up to its reputation for both convenience and flexibility. Design and Build Quality The design is sleek but functional, with its plastic construction being both lightweight and durable. Its convenient dimensions, 15.75" by 8" by 4.5", make it easy to store or leave on the countertop without taking up too much real estate. I particularly appreciated the clear viewing lid that lets you see how much bag roll material is left—a small touch that makes a big difference when you're in the thick of food prep. The inclusion of an easy-lock handle made one-handed operation straightforward, which is helpful when you're balancing tasks during meal preparation. Performance in Daily Use What stood out to me was the power this machine packs for its size. With a 130-watt double vacuum pump, it handles everything from delicate pastries to bulky, moist marinated meats without breaking a sweat. I tested the three seal settings (Dry, Moist, and Double), and the results were impressive across the board. For instance, sealing strawberries in the Gentle setting preserved their texture rather than crushing them, while the Double seal added peace of mind when dealing with juicy meats. Check Nesco VS-12 price on Amazon. Features and Customization Options Being able to choose between Normal and Gentle vacuum pressure was a game-changer. It allowed me to adapt to whatever food I was working with, from hard frozen items to softer, more delicate items like ripe fruits. The built-in roll storage and precise bag cutter were absolutely brilliant in helping create custom bag sizes—I’ve finally stopped over-wasting bag material, which is something my eco-conscious brain appreciates. The optional Double Heat Seal was perhaps my favorite feature, particularly for liquid-heavy leftovers like soups or stews. It provided a secondary barrier to eliminate the risk of leaks during freezing or storage. Advantages - Operates with three versatile sealing modes: Dry, Moist, and Double - Includes Normal and Gentle vacuum-pressure options for a wide range of foods - Integrated bag storage and clear viewing lid for added convenience - One-handed easy-lock handle simplifies operation - Double Heat Seal ensures extra durability for sealing moist foods Shortcomings - The unit is slightly bulky for very small kitchens despite its compact claim - It takes practice to get the perfect seal without accidental misalignment of the bag - Bag rolls are included, but the first set may not last long depending on usage Challengers Plenty of vacuum sealers are available on the market, and the Nesco VS-12 faces stiff competition from brands like FoodSaver and NutriChef. Compared to the popular FoodSaver models, the Nesco VS-12 shines with its Double Heat Seal option, which isn’t always standard on its competitors. However, FoodSaver models often have more compact versions tailored specifically for those with very limited storage space. NutriChef vacuum sealers tend to price lower, but they don’t always match the customization and versatility of the Nesco VS-12. This machine may not be the smallest or cheapest, but it punches above its weight when it comes to features and reliability. Value for Money Although not the cheapest vacuum sealer out there, I believe the Nesco VS-12 strikes a solid balance between its price and the functionality it offers. The features, including variable sealing settings, the included starter rolls, and its overall durability, help justify its price tag. Would it be worth investing in this unit over others? If you value flexibility combined with performance and are willing to pay a bit of a premium, this product ticks a lot of boxes. Chef Preserve Vacuum Sealer Review (I'm too lazy to meal prep but too cheap to waste food)
haha not quite my expression but close enough :) I’m not saying my meal prep skills are bad, but the last time I tried to store leftovers, my husband asked if I was building a compost bin. So, yeah, I needed this. Here's my thoughts on the chef preserve vacuum sealer. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Update: BEST PRICE on the Chef Preserve Vacuum Sealer here: https://amzn.to/4i3uUDb ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- First Impressions The first thing I noticed was how lightweight it felt. Like, almost too light. Was it secretly hollow inside? Was I holding a placebo machine designed to make me feel better? Seems not. It's pretty legit. I’ll admit, part of me wanted to hate it immediately. Who needs a fancy vacuum sealer when Ziploc bags exist. But once I started using it, I couldn't stop. It's weirdly satisfying, watching the air get sucked out of those reusable bags. My initial hope was simple, stop wasting food, save money, maybe impress myself by pretending to meal prep. What I didn’t expect was how it would fit into my daily routine. Now, instead of shoving leftovers into random corners of the fridge only to rediscover them weeks later covered in mold, I’m organizing meals like a Pinterest mom. Who am I?! My Favorite Features speed. 5 seconds per bag. seriously, i timed it. press the button, wait a few seconds, and you’ve got yourself an airtight seal. reusability. unlike traditional vacuum sealers that force you to buy expensive proprietary rolls, the chef preserve comes with reusable bags. they’re dishwasher-safe, microwave-safe, and basically indestructible. i accidentally ran one over with my stroller, and it still held its seal. impressive. portability. since it’s wireless and rechargeable, you can take it anywhere. imagine pulling out a perfectly preserved sandwich after hiking all day. compact design. old-school vacuum sealers hog counter space, but this one sits neatly in a drawer or stands upright on its charging base, taking up less room than my collection of mismatched mugs. Pros saving money. i used to toss half-eaten avocados and wilting veggies without a second thought. now, everything stays fresh five times longer. suddenly, buying in bulk without fear. portion control. as someone who struggles with snacking, pre-sealed portions keep me honest. no more mindlessly reaching into a giant bag of chips. okay, fine, sometimes i cheat, but at least i feel guilty about it. convenience. If you’re meal prepping for the week or storing leftovers, this thing saves time. Cons honestly, the only downside is figuring out exactly how much food fits in each bag takes practice. And don’t forget to zip the bag properly before sealing. also, while the included bags are great, buying extras isn’t cheap. sure, they’re reusable, but replacing them adds up over time. still, it’s a minor gripe. Final Thoughts I'd say it's ideal for anyone drowning in leftovers, trying to meal prep like a responsible human, or looking to cut down on food waste. But if you live alone and subsist solely on takeout, maybe skip it. same goes for minimalists who hate clutter, even though this thing is tiny, it’s still one more item to manage.
