Ok. So I live in a 649 Sq ft 2 bedroom mobile home. And it's so hard to clean everyday. It's me 36f and four boys 13, 11,8,6. We wake-up at 6am and get ready the boys go on the bus to school and I drive to work. I commute from 7:15 to 8 am and work fron 8:20 to 4:10 ( at an elementary school) then drive from 4:10 to 5 stop on the way home at after school care and get home at 5:15. On Saturday I do instacart for about 6 hours. How do people find time to clean? It's just us and the kids are with me full time. I feel like my house is disgusting but idk how to deal with it. this is what my room currently looks like after some years of depression. im 16 and have struggled with motivating myself. my mattress has had its cover slowly come undone and fiberglass has begun to coat just about everything in my room, and i currently cant buy a new mattress of bed. my fan light and leds dont work so id be working with just my vanitys light. im not sure how to tackle it; i have a lot of things that simply dont have a place, so they end up on my bed or in containers that just become junk. i also generally have a small room.. while i was in the hospital, my mom told me she would clean, but she made very little progress. i have no clue how to go at this. i have tried every form of motivation i can think of and i havent gotten it done. please, give me some pointers 🙏 edit: i made an update post! look here submitted by /u/Unusual_Platypus_152 to r/CleaningTips [link] [comments]

This weekend I planned to clean my home.. I know the best method is to do a little bit every day to avoid letting things pile up but at some point I always end up getting overwhelmed with chores (between work and life in general) and it quickly becomes a mess 😬 When it gets too much, I completely lose the motivation to start. So Monday night, my(30f) boyfriend’s(35f) mother passed away. She was terminally ill for about a year and a half and it’s been obviously very tragic for my boyfriend and his family. He texted me Tuesday morning and told me that she passed away the night before (we don’t live together). He was at his parents’ house all day Tuesday and I had no idea what to do for him as I have never supported anyone through a loss like this and I have never been through a loss like this myself. I happened to have a big pot of pasta and meatballs in my fridge that I had cooked for myself, so I took it and brought it to his house. It wasn’t a gourmet meal by any means, but it was literally all I had in terms of something that could be stored in the fridge and all he had to do was put it in a bowl and heat it up. I didn’t have any other groceries to make something that would make good leftovers because I was all out of food stamps and I didn’t pick up takeout because I didn’t have the money for it (I recently lost my job and haven’t had steady income for the past several weeks). His roommate let me in (my bf knew I was dropping something off) and I left the pot in the fridge. I also cleaned up his bedroom and then I went to work. I went back over later that night to spend the night with him so he wouldn’t be alone. We didn’t talk much, and he didn’t eat what I made him because he wasn’t hungry by the time he got home. It was late so we just went to bed. He was acting very distant and almost cold towards me but I wasn’t taking it personally given the circumstances. I can’t imagine how I would be acting/feeling if I was in his shoes. The next morning (Wednesday) I stayed with him for a few more hours until he left to go hangout with his brother. I also had to leave because my mom and I were driving out to a nearby city where we had booked an Airbnb for 2 nights a few weeks prior. My mom paid for the whole thing as an early birthday present to me which I was extremely grateful for. I told my boyfriend that I could cancel the trip but he insisted that I go, even going as far as saying he would be mad at me if I cancelled, so I went. Later that night, my mom and I are relaxing at our Airbnb when I get a text from my boyfriend. It’s a picture of the pasta and meatballs I left for him and a message that says “The amount of sauce you used is disrespectful.” I said “Oh :( I was just trying to do something nice… You don’t have to eat it.” He asked if I tried it myself and I told him yes, I had two plates of it. I genuinely thought it was good for just some pasta, red sauce, meatballs, and cheese thrown in a pot. Again, it was something I originally made for myself, and I didn’t have ingredients or the money for ingredients to make him a fresh meal. Yesterday I got home from my trip and he wanted me to sleepover so I did. He made us dinner (he usually does the cooking) and made some comments about how dinner was really good and how the food you cook someone can be a representation of how you feel about them and how much you love them. To me, it was clear he was making a jab at the pasta and meatballs I gave him. Then this morning, before I left, I went to grab the pot of pasta and take it home with me. I forget how we got into it, but he basically made another jab about how it was inedible and that I’ll see that for myself when I have some. I got really upset at this point. He went on to say that my food made him feel so much worse. He said some other people dropped off food that was actually delicious, so he didn’t understand why I didn’t do that. He just kept doubling down and saying how awful my food was and how it made him feel unloved and disrespected. He said it was fucked up of me to give him something so bad. This really hurt me because I would never want to do something to make him feel bad, especially when he is grieving the tragic loss of a parent. I genuinely don’t know if I’m overreacting to this. He says I shouldn’t feel bad, but motivated to do better. I told him he could’ve handled it differently by saying something more like “thanks for the food babe, but maybe more sauce next time!” or he could have just said nothing and thrown the food away. I’m trying my best to be there for him and I feel like I just can’t get it right. Nothing I do is ever good enough for him and it’s eroding my self confidence. My therapist and I are working on motivation and task paralysis. We were discussing what motivates me to eventually get up and actually begin my chores and I told her that I feel motivated to clean my house because I get worried that if for some reason I was murdered or needed to call 911 in the middle of the night I wouldn’t want anyone seeing how messy my house was and judge me. I’ve literally never told anyone that because it’s so bizarre to me but it gets me to start cleaning. She told me it’s not odd at all and that people with adhd tend to use shame as a motivating factor and that it’s technically a sense of urgency (what if I get murdered like RIGHT NOW??). I don’t just start cleaning because I know it’ll feel good to have a clean house, I clean because my brain needs stakes or time pressure to initiate tasks. I just cannot get motivated to clean when someone is home. When I have the house to myself I have all the motivation I the world but the minute anybody whether it be hubby or my kids steps foot in the house the motivation is gone. It’s like I all of a sudden I just feel sluggish and lazy when anyone else is here which sucks because I have so much cleaning to do in my house. I’ll admit I’m a low key hoarder. My house is cluttered with stuff and is in need of a good deep clean. The last time it looked immaculate was actually years and years ago when it was just my son and I living here. I know a lot of it is the fact that my husband now lives here and we have had another child since so there are more bodies in our small 895 square foot home which means more stuff. I know this has been asked a million times, and I’ve read through dozens of posts with similar situations and all the advice is great in theory, but hasn’t worked for me in practice. I have MDD and ADHD and my bedroom looks abhorrent. Months worth of clothing all over the floors, soda cans on every surface to the point where there’s no place to put anything else, garbage thrown about. I keep telling myself “ok I’ll clean it today” and then I sit there and just… do nothing. People say to start with garbage but even that task seems so daunting to me. I have been telling myself I’ll use today to clean because it’s a holiday and I’ll have all day, but now it’s 3:45 and I have barely done anything. Today is my birthday and I had this (clearly unrealistic) expectation that I would start this year off right and turn my life around and get myself together. I just feel so defeated. I know I sound so dramatic but i feel like I’m at war with myself just to function. Please help. I've always had this terrible, disgusting habit of not cleaning my room and leaving it for MONTHS until I clean part of it, then leave it again, then clean, then it gets dirty all over again. All I will say is that through pretty much my entire high school career, my friends have barely come over because I do not. clean it. There's just so much I need to do—from getting rid of garbage, cleaning dishes, doing my laundry, and selling/donating heaps of clothing I have but don't use anymore... I look at my room and I immediately feel defeated. Even on medication it's one of the only things in my head but the last thing I want to do. I don't want to be reminded on how horrible/embarrassed I am for being in my 20s and still not being able to properly clean my room and keep it clean.
