I broke my cat's water dish and gave myself a black eye for my troubles.
What's up CA kids! Thought I'd managed to finally clinch a job last week. The temp agency who sorted me out last year offered me another temp role. Good job too; medical, data entry, just a short 20-minute bus ride down the road. It wasn't permanent but the pay was good enough it should have sorted me out for another month or two. Plus medical is one of the primary employers in this city and a job like that would have looked fantastic on my resume, opened up further opportunities. But the employer wanted me to get a bunch of vaccines and a drug screen test before working. I don't have health insurance, and am not really familiar with navigating around US healthcare stuff, so from the recommendations the temp guy gave I would have had to pay out of pocket like $600-800 for the vaccines and however much for the drug screen test. I didn't really have time to explore my options (or what options I even had) as the temp guy said he needed a resolution on the matter pronto because he had other candidates lined up for the role and the agency was running behind schedule on compliance stuff. I had to tell him if I needed that pre-screening stuff I simply didn't have that kind of money to hand and I wouldn't be able to take the job. He thanked me for my time, assured me this wouldn't/shouldn't affect the agency's consideration of me for future roles and that was that. Defeat snatched from the jaws of victory. I was gutted. I thought this would have gotten the year off to a better start than last year, but now it looked like I was bound for constant anxiety and stress again. Back to the everyday job application spamming. I went into a depressive episode and hit the mouthwash. Fast forward a few days later and something unfortunate happened. My balance and coordination has been really off when I've been drinking recently, more like a normie than a CA. I frequently feel like I'm about to fall over, just from things like turning around too quickly, or feel nervous about bending over to pick something up in case I faceplant. Well that night I was coming back into the house from the porch and tripped on something or other on the way in. My lurching forward momentum just fucking launched me, and being fairly sauced I had zero coordination and no means to arrest my fall. So I just flew the air, like the Ralph Wiggum through the window meme and hit...something...face first. I felt wet on my face and heard buzzing. It took me a little effort to peel myself off the floor, somewhat, to find I'd wrecked Jonesy's electric water fountain. With my face. I saw red dappling the base of the thing and then felt a hot dribble running down my face. Ah, blood. I staggered to the bathroom to check the damage and could see I was already gushing. So I decided to do the appropriate thing and get cleaned off and changed. Only kidding: I continued drinking while bleeding all over myself, before eventually passing out in bloody clothing. I woke up the next morning gummed to my pillow. I could actually hear peeling sounds as I turned my head this way and that. Evidently the blood had trickled down around the back of my head to pool into my pillow while I was asleep, to form a little bond. Yummers. I got up to check the state of myself. The blood had formed a crust around my face and I could see dry little chunks in the sides and back of my hair. My clothes were spackled with dark red/brown patches. Maybe I should have cleaned up before bed. But my woes didn't there as I decided to have a quick glug or two of the blue stuff first, to brace myself for a cold-ass shower before the AM booze run. I had two gulps, literally two, and had a microsecond's warning a power vomit was imminent. Not enough time to make it to the bathroom and there was no suitable slop bucket around, so I turned and heaved into the next best thing: a medium plant pot on the ground. Considering I'd only had two gulps the return volume was fearsome. I spewed up what felt like a couple liters of fluid in several torrents. Then to my horror I saw why my receptacle was a bad idea: plant pots usually have holes in the bottom, and this one did. My spew came gushing out of the bottom, right into the carpet. A curious mix of peat, bile, and the unmistakable antiseptic tang of the mouthwash. I considered just leaving it, hoping the smell would dry out and dissipate sooner rather than later. But the stink was unbelievable, even to my stunted sense of smell, and it was well into the carpet. I took the pot outside, hosed it down, and sprayed some Clorox or something into the brown stain in the carpet. The room now has the smell of of cleaning product, fart, and a fading hint of CA spew. Pictures! Since I've been meaning to do an update post since like December there's a few: I didn't do much for Christmas - hell I even spent the day sober, which must be the first time I've done so since I was like 15. I just put up a little tree. I didn't need to do much else since many of the decorations CAG put up on Xmas 2024 are still up! Jonesy enjoyed himself at least. I got him plenty of treats and he likes wearing his little seasonal collar. I really like this picture of him. That said, he wasn't much impressed with my last harvest of the season from my garden. This little bastard Jonesy actually brought INTO the house from outside. Considering we have plenty enough inside kinda pointless. He just plopped him down near a piece of furniture and of course the mouse ran under it. Then Jonesy lost interest after he thought I was shouting at him and I had to wrangle the mouse myself. It was a mini adventure. I have an official piss bottle. I signed up for a clinical research trial that paid decent money and I thought that would sort me for a while. Interview and screening was great, and they said I ticked off all the right boxes, and all I had to do was take these pills and piss in their piss bottle for regular testing. Only, it ended before it even started - they did bloodwork as part of the screening and said I wasn't eligible for the study anymore because of the results. Uh oh. When I got the test results back they'd marked out several of the test results - like AST/ALT - were wayyy outside of their acceptable limit. Out of curiosity I plugged the results into ChatGPT (don't judge me, remember I don't have insurance) and it suggested I have macrocytic anemia which apparently isn't uncommon in alcoholics. I wrote it all off as another boondoggle and forgot about my 'gift' piss bottle (and tote bag!) until I was looking for something the other day and found them. I think I almost burned the house down over the winter. I was constantly using CAG's more powerful and efficient space heater and it took me a while to put two and two together it was the source of like an electrical fire smell I would often smell. Took a bit of effort to even unplug the thing and I was told it was a fire hazard and I could have started a fire if I continued using it. Xmas dinner leftovers I had to move as I was rummaging around in the fridge looking for food. Xmas dinner leftovers from 2024. The pie was hard as a rock. My mousetrap appears to not work anymore, but I discovered congealed molasses appears to make a natural mousetrap. NSFL. TW: blood. Aftermath of the rocketman incident. Don't pass out before cleaning up first. And have mercy on your pillow. submitted by /u/Delicious_mod to r/cripplingalcoholism [link] [comments]

Contamination OCD + Hoarder House
First post in here. Saw a reel about c/OCD yesterday and realized I definitely have it. It appeared 4-5 years ago and has gotten mildly worse in the last year since I moved back in with my hoarder parents. I'm stuck here until I finish grad school in January. Seeking advice on if I should seek treatment now, or wait until I have moved out. Exposure therapy would be incredibly hard/distressing for me in my current environment... Parents' home is disgusting, covered in dog filth and hair, and junk piled to the ceiling in most of their spaces. I grew up like this, but didn't know any different as a kid. Now, I do. Their 4 dogs 💩 everywhere, and they pick it up eventually (unless the dog eats it first), but never sanitize where it was. I have to prompt them to wash their hands, take the trash out, and to take a shower once in a while. My mom's mental health is in the toilet, but always has been. My dad is lazy and was never taught any different. They never clean, ever, and I can't manage cleaning a 5 bedroom house by myself AND pass school. Mom forbids me hiring an outside cleaner. I'm so distressed regarding it all, and my eczema is awful from all of the handwashing and stress. I work in healthcare so I make contact with bodily fluids, blood, etc daily. This does not help. I feel so out of control. I follow these "routines" or rules to maintain what control I have left: • wear flip flops around the house and take them off right before I enter my room • no one else is allowed in my room • wash my bed sheets and vac my room weekly • wipe down kitchen with clorox before I cook a meal • no "outside clothes" on my bed after being in hospital, public transit, etc • clean out fridge weekly to avoid spoiled food I think these things are mostly reasonable given my current situation. I am noticing a spike in anxiety regarding touching surfaces at the hospital that I perceive as germy/contaminated. I have open sores on my hands from my eczema, and I don't want a blood infection. And my dad is in advanced organ failure and the thought of bringing an illness home to him has be on-edge because it could kill him. It's a tragic combination I'm dealing with!! 🤪 My mom makes fun of me, antagonizes my quirks, calls me weird, and says I "have a problem." Okay, I know I do. She fails to admit that she has a problem, too, though. I'd personally rather be on this side of the problem spectrum, LOL. But alas, I'm not sure how unreasonable I am being with my routine and how to compromise that, or if even should, while maintaining my sanity. Any advice & thoughts welcome. And no, unfortunately I cannot financially swing a sooner move-out date. submitted by /u/No-Palpitation77 to r/ChildofHoarder [link] [comments]

r/sterilization
My experience as a plus size black girl
i was 18 when i first got on birth control because i didn't want kids or periods. I talked about getting sterilized with my doctor at the time and she laughed at me, told me to just get on birth control, and said that no one would ever do a procedure on me because i was so young plus didn't have kids. I still saw that doctor for birth control because i thought she was right but i really started to consider finding a way to get sterilized. I had a breast reduction in the past and had to jump through so many hoops to get my insurance to cover it so i decided to just stick with birth control for a while so that it was documented that i tried other methods before jumping the gun and trying to get the procedure. I started with the depo shot first, then the nuva ring, then switched back to depo then the IUD, then back to depo for good. I called my insurance asked if they covered sterilization 2 separate times just to be 100% sure it would be covered before i even started the process and both agents told me that it would be covered so i decided to try and get the ball rolling. I looked up the list on tiktok and found multiple doctors in my city who would do the surgery with my insurance. i wrote them down just in case the doctor i was scheduled to see wouldn't do it. I had my annual appointment August 22nd at affinia healthcare and asked the doctor about sterilization. she said she wasnt qualified to do so as she was just a family medicine doctor but she told me she would make me an appointment with the OBGYN physician. The appointment was made for September 24th. At the time i still had the IUD in and i was planning on getting it removed at that appointment as well as getting back on the depo shot. I made a list of all the reasons i didn't want kids (about 167 reasons on the list) and was fully prepared. I told the doctor i wanted my IUD removed and also wanted to talk about sterilization options. She agreed to do both and talked to me about the different procedures and the permanence of it but she told me the standard procedure that was done now is called a laparoscopic salpingectamy. She asked if i was sure i didnt want kids and i told her yes and gave her a few reasons she said ok and went to get the consent form. When she left the room i was so worried she wouldn't come back but she did. We talked about the form then she told me there was a 30 day waiting period. After the 30 days i would have to see another provider for confirmation that she told me about how permanent the procedure was and make sure i still wanted it. I agreed, signed the forms, got my IUD removed, and made my next appointment. My next appointment was October 20th. i started doing research in that time and saw some women say the second opinion doctor turned them down for the procedure so i was terrified. The doctor came in and asked why i was in. i told her i was there for my second opinion and she said ok cool. She again explained the procedure id be getting, talked about the permanence of it, and she asked if i felt comfortable telling her why i didn't want kids. I told her a couple reasons and she said she understood. She explained what would happen the day of surgery and that i could change my mind at any point if i wanted to up until the surgery was actually happening. she explained how she was required to say that but she believed that i wasn't going to change my mind which gave me an immense amount of validation. i also asked her if i would have proof of removal and she said yes. She never mentioned anything about my weight, bmi, religion, the fact that I was single or mental health. She mentioned how ridiculous it is that people born with a uterus have to go through such a long process and we should be able to pick what we do with our body then asked if i preferred her or the previous doctor to do my surgery. I told her whoever was available first as i wanted the surgery asap. She shook my hand, did a little cheer for me, and apologized that i had to go through so many to get this surgery. I was expecting a call from the surgery department a week or two after my appointment because online everyone said they heard from the doctor in about a week. I didn't hear back for about 3 weeks. I checked my email on November 12th/early morning on the 13th and saw a message from mychart saying i had an unanswered message. The email was dated for November 5th but i dont check my email regularly so i didnt see it until i was looking for a different email. i logged into mychart not thinking anything because i had changed my phone number on the website. The message was just a survey that asked if i had been depressed in the last 14 days so i answered honestly. I also saw not only was my surgery scheduled but it was also with the doctor i wanted most which was great. I know before i told her i didnt care and just wanted to get the fastest appointment which is true i wanted my tubes out as fast as possible but i was secretly hoping it would be with the second doctor because she was so validating. I got a call November 14th giving me a little bit of surgery information. The lady said that my pre op appointment was gonna be closer to my surgery about 5-7 days before and she also said they would schedule my post op at the same time. She gave me some information about what to do the day of surgery and she told me that my insurance covered my whole bill and that i owe $0. She said if anyone told me otherwise or tried to charge me that i should cite our conversation as it was on record or to just tell them to contact my insurance. Things i got and did to prepare for surgery based on what people on this sub recommend. Gas x, stool softener, cough drops, new chapstick, benadryl, waterproof bandaids, long flowy dresses, panties a little larger than i needed, protein shakes, electrolyte powder drink packets, snacks, and i got a cart to have by my bed to make getting what i need easier. I already had a hysterectomy pillow from my breast reduction so i didnt need that luckily. Before surgery i washed all my clothes, laid out easy to put on clothes in my cart, and stocked my cart with medicines. Im a black girl with curly hair so i did box braids a week before my surgery and just washed my hair in the braids the day before surgery. I washed my bed spread+pillow cases, set up my bed and stuffed animals around me so i would be propped up, took off all nail polish, cleaned all my devices with clorox wipes, and cleaned my shoes with clorox wipes. The morning of my surgery December 5th i took a shower, brushed my teeth, washed my face but skipped skincare, grabbed my bag and left out with my mom. My arrival time was 5:30 am so i woke up at about 2am and was out the house by 4:30 am. I got called back at about 5:53am and did my pregnancy test, answered questions and got my IV started. They told me surgery would start at 7. All the nurses came in and asked me questions and asked why i was there then i got wheeled back into the OR. I dont remember anything after the nurse asking me to lift my chin then i was in recovery. I slept for a while and couldn't keep my eyes open in recovery the nurse kept asking if i was ok but i couldn't speak because my mouth was so dry. I left the hospital at 11 something and now im in bed just laying here. my eyes feel really heavy and my throat is super dry but surgery was a success. i wasnt nervous at all. Officially tube free!!! From initial obgyn consultation to surgery date was about 11 weeks. submitted by /u/littleprincess1570 to r/sterilization [link] [comments]

Getting A C In Color Protection - Ascorbic Acid For Chlorine Removal
Chlorine is sometimes useful in laundry - chlorine bleach is an excellent disinfectant for a variety of harmful bacteria, viruses and fungi that can inhabit laundry. It’s also an excellent option for sanitizing or disinfecting a freshly-cleaned washing machine. This post was last updated 09/01/2025. But chlorine smells like a poorly-maintained swimming pool. Even if you never crack open a jug of Clorox, the small level of chlorine in wash and rinse water is slowly grinding away at your textiles. Why You Should Care: This sub gets a lot of discussion about caring for dark clothing, and there are specialist products out there that purport to reduce fading, but nothing currently sold in North America addresses residual chlorine sanitizer in tap water. Chlorine fading in darks is especially promoted by tumble drying as the chlorine activity increases with temperature so long as the clothes are wet. Additionally, garments containing nylon and Lycra/spandex/elastane lose strength when exposed to even low doses of chlorine over time. This can occur in chlorinated pools or from wash processes. People who work in healthcare are often exposed to handwash, skin prep and mouthwash solutions containing chlorhexidine gluconate such as Hibiclens and Peridex. Chlorine in wash water can turn nearly-invisible chlorhexidine splashes into ugly brown stains. Finally, some people using low/no scent products can smell chlorine and chlorine byproducts in their finished laundry. Last One To Neutralize The Chlorine Smells Like A Rotten Egg! The conventional way of dealing with chlorine in wash water has been sulfonation, using a molecule like sodium dithionate or sodium thiosulfate. While these work, they stink like a forgotten Easter egg on that first hot day of spring, and can cause color damage of their own if overdosed even slightly. An ideal chlorine neutralizer would be: cheap safe to handle easy to dose widely available compatible with other wash and rinse products. tolerant of misdosing - nothing too finicky, no severe consequences if it were overdosed non-allergenic able to dissolve completely in all wash water conditions friendly to skin highly effective in even the shortest or longest wash programs. Fortunately, such a miracle product already exists. Vitamin C. Ascorbic Acid. Anita Bryant’s favorite vitamin. (kids, ask your parents. Or more likely, great-grandparents) Ascorbic acid ticks everything on the list. It’s available from a variety of sources for practically nothing. And you need very very little of it. How To Use It: A top load washer with worst-case-scenario highly-chlorinated city water needs one gram in the wash and one gram in the rinse. That’s 1/4 tsp of a pure powder, which can go right in the wash drum for the wash, and another 1/4 tsp diluted in tap water to fill the agitator-top dispenser or the Downy Ball for the rinse. Front loaders need even less - a little under 1/8th tsp in the wash and in the softener dispenser, dry. It’s compatible with citric acid for the rinse as well. If you’re using it to get the bleach smell out of your machine after sanitizing, you’ll need more like two teaspoons in the drum on a rinse cycle. Same dose if your private well has been shock-chlorinated. Less than 1/8th tsp in a sink of water will neutralize the residue on swimwear or for handwashing. Obviously, you don’t want to use this in the wash with powdered detergents with oxygen bleaches, with Biz, with Oxiclean, etc. Oxidant + anti-oxidant will always equal less oxidizer and you paid good money for that percarbonate. But a slightly higher dose (say, a teaspoon) in the rinse would be beneficial for darks that needed washing with oxygen bleaches for some other reason and you’d like to minimize the fading. Vitamin C as ascorbic acid powder is not stable in water for storage. So don’t mix up more than you’ll use in a few days. Just chuck powder in. I’ve used and recommended this for awhile for darks protection, but it turns out I’ve been massively overdosing it. Fish downstream of our wastewater plant are now at zero risk of scurvy. The Nerdy Details: Tikkanen et al described the reaction: C5H5O5CH2OH + HOCL → C5H3O5CH2OH + HCl + H2O So that’s ascorbic acid + hypochlorous acid (the active form of chlorine as a disinfectant) forming dehydroascorbic acid, hydrochloric acid and water. There’s a tiny drop in pH in the water afterwards but it’s quite literally 1-4 ppm of HCl, so the practical effect is negligible. The molarity is such that you need 2.5 masses of ascorbic acid to neutralize one mass of HOCl. submitted by /u/KismaiAesthetics to r/laundry [link] [comments]

The Purity Culture to Crunchy Pipeline
I was listening to the latest Girl Defined podcast where Bethany interviews Elizabeth Parsons (Purely Parsons) about her wellness journey, and I think I’ve figured out why many women raised in fundamentalist Christian environments become "crunchy" moms after marriage: Purity Culture! There are so many parallels between the wellness industry and purity culture—perfectionism, control over the body, ridding yourself of impurities, consuming content/products to reach goals, guilt, and the idea of a never-ending journey. Christian fundamentalist women are taught to strive for perfection from a young age. Do you think that desire just disappears after a “pure” marriage and home birth? No, it shifts to other areas. Wellness is a perfect transition because it’s socially acceptable. These women are encouraged to be great homemakers and "hot wives." Plus, if their husbands are struggling financially, it helps him fulfill his provider role by avoiding traditional healthcare. Elizabeth mentioned that the journey to a non-toxic household often involves removing things rather than buying new products. But isn’t she still selling her own non-toxic products and guides? You might not buy Clorox wipes, but you’re still purchasing something 👀 Anyway, those are my thoughts. submitted by /u/PeligrosaPistola to r/FundieSnarkUncensored [link] [comments]

How We Got Rid Of Cat Pee Smells
We had a problem in a unit we purchased where the tenants let their cat pee all over the carpet in the bedroom. We had the carpet removed and there was still a smell because it had seeped into the concrete floor, yuck. Buy what's called urine enzyme cleaner, a deck scrub brush and one of the thin plastic drop cloths/sheets painters use. Spray the floor liberally with the cleaner, used a deck scrub brush on a stick to work it in, quickly cover the floor with the drop cloth/sheet so the cleaner can't evaporate. This lets the enzyme cleaner break down the Uric Acid crystals formed by the cat pee. Leave it for 24 hours, pull up the plastic sheet and mop the floor a few times with clean water, wringing out the mop often. Room is as fresh as a daisy now, completely smell free, even the carpet installers who tore up the old carpet and put down the new were amazed. This really works and should work for dogs and humans as well because cat pee is the worst of the bunch. submitted by /u/JoeBlow1961 to r/CleaningTips [link] [comments]

My ride or die dividend portfolio for 2023 and portfolio
It’s a bigly portfolio in my taxable account, and I don’t have any ETFs, only individual stocks. I’m pretty heavy in certain sectors, namely industrials, materials/energy, and consumer, while light in others, like healthcare and real estate. All of the big S&P names are covered in my 401k, so I decided to neglect those here for now. Everything is more or less evenly weighted, though that will change organically over time. Any questions, comments, or concerns? Hope everyone is having a good week. Dividend on, Wayne. submitted by /u/yeti_man82 to r/dividends [link] [comments]

How to clean safely with Clorox Healthcare bleach wipes?
I am in the process of cleaning my bathroom/bedroom etc with Clorox Bleach wipes and would like to know how to do it safely. Do you wipe them directly on surfaces that you touch (Toilet seat, mouse, keyboard, door handles)? Do you wipe them with water later? I'm afraid of touching a wiped surface with the bleach and then transferring it to my eyes. If it's on the toilet seat, will it burn my skin? I don't have a lot of experience cleaning surfaces with bleach. submitted by /u/Rocketsloth to r/cdifficile [link] [comments]
