How do I stop the little $2-$8 buys between classes?
I'm a college student in Texas and I keep getting hit by those tiny convenience purchases between classes and errands. Not big splurges - a bottled drink, a coffee, a quick snack, then later a $2-$5 in-app purchase while I'm killing time. Harmless in the moment, but by the end of the week it really adds up. I want a system that actually works on campus, not some perfect meal-prep fantasy. What I've tried so far: - Carrying a refillable water bottle (helps - until I forget it at home). - Packing granola bars (I get tired of them after a couple days). - Deleting delivery apps (this wasn't the core issue; it's the gas station and campus stops). What I'm thinking of doing: - A small "between-classes" pouch in my backpack with shelf-stable snacks I won't hate after two days (nuts, jerky, peanut-butter crackers, etc.). - A weekly cash envelope for on-campus spending so I actually feel the money leaving my hands. - Swapping paid time-waster apps for a couple offline games I already own to avoid microtransactions. If you've broken this habit, what actually worked for you? I'm looking for low-effort ideas that don't rely on daily willpower. submitted by /u/Repulsive-Weather921 to r/Frugal [link] [comments]

Coffee Bar?
My wife and I are in process of renovating a home and working with a custom cabinet maker. We’re torn between installing a fitted coffee bar with cabinets or using an antique hutch for the same purpose. What are folks’ thoughts on a fully fitted kitchen? On the one hand, I like the idea of having more cabinet space and a cohesive look, but I can also appreciate the charm of an antique piece (but worry about fewer cabinets). submitted by /u/user-unknown26 to r/kitchenremodel [link] [comments]

My $1,000 facelift of my kitchen annex, with coffee bar, after and before
You guys were SO awesome when I posted my kitchen facelift earlier in the year, but once the kitchen was done, the area between the kitchen and the back door looked a little, well, bad in comparison. So I spent the last 8 weekends giving this area a little facelift, too. As it’s such a small space that has to accomplish so much (coatroom, coffee bar, utility closet, and stair landing), I had to design it literally down to the inch to make sure everything fit just perfectly, and I had to make EVERYTHING bespoke. The only things I didn’t make myself were the hardware and the chandelier, but even the shelves were made from scratch, using quarter-sawn white oak raw slabs. Although the rest of the kitchen has unlacquered brass accents, I wanted this little room to look cozier, so I went with copper everything. I wanted the coffee bar to look like a French cafe window, so I made an awning frame out of copper pipe and sewed the awning cover. I hid directional lighting under the awning to light the top shelf, then used strip lighting, half covered with copper tape, under the two shelves to ensure it was all well-lit. The base of the coffee bar came together with some luck; I found an antique slab of marble that was *exactly* the size I needed, and then I bought a copper console sink base which I had to cut down to the right depth and width and re-assemble. The copper tub underneath provides extra storage. We also needed extra storage by the back door so I made the hanging black storage box on the hall tree, with scalloped edges to match the awning. I additionally made the shelves for the antique hall tree, as it was originally an umbrella holder. The shelves now house my antique Chinese duck boxes, which provide yet more storage. For the coat room area, I put up some leftover beadboard I had from another project, then added copper-painted coat hooks and hat hooks (we’ll have to see how long the copper paint holds up), along with a row of wooden pegs along the bottom to hang our sneakers. I then sewed and installed a fabric divider between the coat area and the coffee bar, to make each space look more finished and intentional. Copper pipe attached to a strip of red oak provided the foundation for the divider. The strip of red oak also serves as a way to hide the cords from the coffee bar lighting. I included a photo of the divider so you can see how it’s made. Lastly, I needed to figure out how to make the utility closet look more attractive, so I made a curtain rod from copper pipe and sewed a large curtain to give me exactly the look I wanted. The plastic trash cans were also painted copper. Not seen in the photos are the commercial-grade broom/mop mounts I installed to keep everything tidy behind the curtain. Of course, there was also a lot of painting involved, including the window frame on the back door, and peel-and-stick tile behind the coffee bar to match the backsplash in the kitchen. I’m really thrilled how much this effort has elevated such an important but small space in the house, and it’s sooo much nicer to come home to this space after a long day instead of how it looked before. I hope you like this space, too, and maybe got some ideas for your own DIY projects! submitted by /u/Blood_sweat_and_beer to r/kitchenremodel [link] [comments]

Things I've learned after moving to Melbourne (vs Perth)
Moved to Melbourne at the ass end of COVID in 2021, literally going from no restrictions to a few months of lockdown before opening back up for good... It's been so interesting noticing all the differences in culture. Note: These are just my experiences, I'm not saying these apply to everyone. When walking down the footpath, they are so much more oblivious to walking out of the way or making room for you, honestly, the amount of times I've had to jump out of the way at the last second is crazy (yes, I walk on the LHS) Saying "Hi" whilst walking past someone in Perth was always the norm (for me, anyway), I feel like I'm talking to myself 95% of the time here - it's a small thing, but it surprisingly makes you feel so less connected to your community. When I first moved to Melbourne, I was astounded with how many cars stopped for me to let me cross the road. I feel like if I ever got too used to this and went back to Perth, I'd get run over in a day. Food isn't that much better than anywhere else, there's just a ton more. It's like every suburb has a Vic Park strip that goes on forever, you can always find something you're craving. The way to think about it is if they condensed Perth, but it's bigger... if that makes sense. As a Coffee snob, the coffee is definitely overrated. What I mean by that is that it is excellent, but you can find as good as the best of Melbourne in Perth, just as easy. A 22° day in Melbourne is the same as the 26-28 day in Perth (humidity). The extremely hot days in Melbourne are always overcast. If you're looking at the forecast and see a 28c day preceding a 36c day, plan to be outside on the 28c day if you want the sun and enjoy the evening outside. More often than not, the 36c day will be cloudy af and end with a cold front and rain. Four seasons in a day is legit. If you want to get outside and it's sunny, for the love of god get outside. The MCG is amazing! Honestly, as someone who loves their sport, the goosebumps I get every time I walk into a near capacity game of footy is unrivalled by anything else. Marvel Stadium though, while having really-good facilities and bars, I swear has a vampire in charge of the roof. Kind of makes me think they have a fear of the sun. It could be a perfect sunny day any day of the year, but they don't open it, no matter what...... Sorry, until it's a 38 degree day in peak summer, and you're sitting in the sun roasting and no one wants to sit in the sun because it will melt your face off. Melbourne call the foreshore of St Kilda a beach (i.e. they could happily say "let's go to the beach", but mean St Kilda). Even though it's still in the bay, the quality of the beach there is like you mixed the Swan River foreshore with a dash of heroin and meth. The day after I first went there, I checked the water quality... "HAZARDOUS - DO NOT PUT YOUR HEAD UNDER THE WATER". Bro. As someone who enjoys their cold showers in the morning, the cold water in Melbourne is insanely colder, in a good way (if you like that). In Perth, the cold water is like you stayed in a bath a little too long. I know this is just climate, but everything's is a lot greener in Melbourne, the parklands are beautiful, and it's so good walking around them. Whereas in Perth, It's all very dry and arid. As someone who appreciates the outdoors, the parklands in and around the city are so lush. Driving in Melbourne is considerably worse because the road quality is so shit. In some of the intersections that have tram lines on them, you need you pray you're following the correct lane. Not only that, some of the roads are an absolute clusterfuck of chaos. It's like they got high on mushrooms when designing them (See this: maps). So many main thoroughfares go through 40km strips, too. Another thing, their measure of distance / time is so different. It takes us 30-35 minutes to get from just South of the River to Joondalup up the freeway, but it takes 30 minutes to go a few suburbs across over here, but then when you say to do a day trip down to the coast (1.5hr - 1hr 45mins), it's like you're asking them to drive to the sun and back. Melbourne still loves smoking - there is basically a tobacconist for every 20 people. Every single strip, no matter how small, will have a tobacconist (which is basically a front for selling under-the-counter vapes). I stand by that Melbourne's café / art / food culture is so strong, because they needed to find other things to do to keep them busy while they couldn't go outside and enjoy the sun. Other random things: They have no idea what a verge is. Seriously, I told my partner to put the bin on the verge when I moved over. They have no idea what that word means. They call it a nature strip..... Heathens. I use this diagram to help them understand. https://preview.redd.it/izhqpltcw26g1.png?width=1709&format=png&auto=webp&s=831db1d8e2d0036d14a2b07d37d7df44e0be8f9c Parmi vs Parma. I will forever die on the Parmi hill. Honkeynut vs Gum nut Milk bars vs General store / Deli Water fountain vs Bubbler Potato scallops vs potato cakes Middy v Pots. Honestly, A middy is half a pint. Why complicate that. Rockmelon vs Cantaloupe. We're not yanks. Polony vs Devon Apparently we say things like "Neil" with an extra syllable, "Knee yal", rather than a single. With all that being said, Melbourne goes alright. submitted by /u/kiminoth to r/perth [link] [comments]

Opening a Coffee-bar
For years I had this plan in the back of my head to open a coffee-bar or coffee-stand and I’m looking for someone to team up with. I have 2 years experience of working in a bakery, also replacing the manager during leaves so I know what it is all about. I haven’t really decided on a location yet, just have some ideas. Feel free to reach out if you like to discuss plans. submitted by /u/Marc-Deluxe to r/Luxembourg [link] [comments]

My coffee bar set up in my room
So I have been sober for almostn2 and a half years now and pour over coffee has been my hobby, I even began roasting my own coffee and have begun experimenting with fermenting my coffee beans prior to roasting and have even started selling a little and I'm think about starting a business roasting and selling coffee as well. I even have some ideas for designing my own kettle and some other things as well. This is all 9f the coffee gear I have collected over my coffee journey so far. This has grown from a means to an end to a hobby to a passion and it takes up all my free time which I am happy to trade. I do all kinds of research and experimenting and I have very much enjoyed my journey so far and I have no plans of stopping any time soon. This has helped keep me sober and out of trouble and has helped me in many unexpected and definitely unintentional ways. Has anyone else been significantly impacted by coffee in any way or am I just a total dork lol I would love to hear about your guy's experience in your coffee journey if you have been impacted by coffee like i have as well. Thanks for reading my coffee story! I posted 2 sets of pics of my coffee bar thats in my room , a set before I got my coffee roaster and 1 pic after I got my roaster submitted by /u/LegitimateHeight6742 to r/pourover [link] [comments]

I once lived off random family breakfasts for a month and nobody questioned it
A while back I was broke, hungry, and desperate. I’d already burned through all the obvious free food hacks—Costco samples, hotel lobbies, church potlucks. Then I had the dumbest idea that somehow… worked. Every morning, I’d just… walk into random houses around my neighborhood. Not breaking in or anything—just slipping in when a door was ajar, or when a garage was open, or I’d follow a dad grabbing the paper and just nod like I belonged. The trick was confidence. I’d head straight to the kitchen, mumble a casual “morning,” and sit down like I’d been living there my whole life. Pancakes? Eggs? Toast? Whatever was on the table, I was eating it. Nobody ever questioned me. Families just assumed I was, like, a cousin, a visiting exchange student, or maybe their kid’s weird new friend who crashed the night. I got so good at blending in I even developed “roles.” In one house, I was “quiet guy who drinks black coffee.” In another, I was “the cousin who doesn’t talk much but always grabs extra toast.” I once buttered six biscuits in silence while an entire family argued about carpool schedules, and not a single person looked twice at me. Best part? People actually offered me stuff to take “for later.” A juice box, a granola bar, a leftover cinnamon roll. It was like meal-prep without the prep. For about a month, breakfast was covered. Every time I smell maple syrup now, my brain immediately goes back to nervously buttering toast while pretending to be “Uncle Jeff’s nephew from Ohio.” What a time. submitted by /u/MarvashMagalli to r/confession [link] [comments]

AITA for ghosting a guy because he insisted on going for drinks on our first date?
I am not The OOP, OOP is u/lokisbabygirl12 AITA for ghosting a guy because he insisted on going for drinks on our first date? Originally posted to r/AITAH Thanks to u/queenlegolas & u/soayherder for suggesting this BoRU TRIGGER WARNING: Undertones of sexual predation Original Post June 13, 2025 I (20F) had been talking to this guy (22M) for about a month. We knew each other from school (he was a senior) and reconnected recently. The conversations were fun, flirty, and I was open to meeting him in person to see where things might go. When we started planning a first date, he kept suggesting we go to a bar and get drinks. I personally don’t feel super comfortable drinking with someone I haven’t met properly yet, especially on a first date. I live in India, where that kind of setting—especially as a woman—can feel a little unsafe or just… not ideal unless I already know/trust the person. So I subtly tried to suggest alternatives like coffee or lunch, hoping he’d take the hint. But every time, he pushed for drinks again. It wasn’t aggressive or anything, but it felt dismissive of my comfort. After a few back-and-forths like this, I ended up just losing interest and stopped replying. Now I’m wondering: was that unfair of me? Should I have been more direct instead of ghosting him? Or was I right to just dip if I wasn’t feeling respected or unsure? edit : i guess ‘ghosting’ wasn’t the ideal word to use, i made up an excuse as to why i could not meet him (family commitment) when he just wouldn’t budge on the drinks idea RELEVANT COMMENTS Downvoted Commenter ESH Getting drinks is by and far the standard for a first date. Idk what you’re saying you said, but if you wanted to do something else and are holding it against this person for not understanding your unspoken aversion to the standard then why did you even learn English in the first place On his end, yeah idk why youd keep pushing for something someone’s already rebuffed w alternatives. But if you’re hoping he’d take the hint then I’d assume you phrased things to be a discussion - and then just ended the discussion Edit: the learning English standard was typed under the assumption that English is your first language. Not a racial jab. OOP where I live going out for drinks on the first date is NOT the standard, you’re pretty much stupid if you go out and have drinks alone or with someone new as a young girl in delhi ( the most unsafe state in india), this is usually something that most decent guys understand, the culture around dating and casual drinking is not that developed here. ~ kaysowot He was insisting on going for drinks because he probably wanted to get you drunk and try to shag you. Hints about coffee or lunch or blatant communication about going for coffee or lunch would unlikely change what he wanted here. OOP thats it! people are suggesting i could’ve just gone and had something non- alcoholic but men don’t understand how certain men can act in a situation like that- pushing to get you drunk so it can affect the girl’s judgement or worse. It’s one of the most uncomfortable situations to be in not saying this guy would definitely do this- but I’ve been in enough uncomfortable situations to run the other away at the possibility Update June 14, 2025 Hi again, I didn’t expect my original post to get so much attention this is my first time making an update post, but thank you to everyone who shared their perspectives — especially those who took the time to understand the cultural and safety context of dating in India. So I thought I’d give a small update since a lot of you suggested being direct rather than ghosting, just to see how he reacts and confirm my instincts. To clarify: I had actually canceled our earlier plan by giving the excuse of “family commitments” because I was already feeling weird about the drinks thing, not just straight up stopped replying like some comments thought. But after reading the responses here, I decided to be more honest — for closure, if nothing else. So when he called I said something like: “We can try to meet next weekend if you’re still up for it, but I’d really prefer not to go for drinks”, I even suggested some of my favourite coffee spots His response? He said he usually goes to the gym or works during the day so was hoping to meet a little later. Which… fine, that’s understandable since he does freelance work. But then he followed it up with: “But I bet you’d be very fun drunk” Yeah. That creeped me out more than I expected. Not only did it dismiss what I just said again, it also gave off the exact vibe I was trying to avoid — like the main appeal of the date was how I’d behave after drinking. I ended up giving vague answers to his follow-ups and haven’t taken the conversation further. At this point, I’m pretty sure I’m not going to. Rough introduction to modern dating
I'm 42 years old next month, and had my first date on Sunday. I was married for 21 years, and my wife and I came together through friends so we never really dated, except for the matrimonially mandated date nights. Our marriage deteriorated over the last 10 years, but our daughter, finances and stubbornness kept us together. Finally, one month ago, I officially left to live on my own for the first time in my life. I tried meeting people by going out by myself or with groups, but never really made any connections. So with easter weekend coming up, I thought I'd try out Bumble, just to maybe have someone to go out and do things with. I had no prospects for a while, then suddenly I had two dates lined up in as many days, with two different women. I was losing sleep with excitement. The first date I had invited to join me and a group of hikers doing a 12km loop around the wetlands on Saturday morning. She never showed up. I got a message on Bumble half and hour in saying "Apologies, I slept in. Enjoy your walk". I haven't trusted myself to reply to her yet. The second date I invited to the museum on Sunday. We walked around the exhibits for like 3 hours then had lunch at a bar. I thought it went well, she thanked me and I said we would have to do something else sometime. By the time I got home she had ended the chat on Bumble, which means I can't see or send any messages or her profile anymore at all. I'm stoic enough to not let these experiences turn me into a bitter, reclusive curmudgeon, but it hurts to have my excitement and positivity so casually doused. Edit/Update: Thanks for all the supportive messages! Just wanted to clarify some points. -My wife and I have been separated for over 3 years, but still living together due to finances and our daughter. She has been seeing other people in that time, but i didn't bother trying to date while still living with my ex. As soon as my daughter moved out, our finances were split and I thought my wife could support herself, I moved into my own place and haven't looked back. -Of course I'm not looking for wife no. 2 on the first date! I'm just trying to meet people. Isn't that what you are supposed to do? I have no problem with being rejected, and no expectation of anything serious developing. I don't even want to get lucky! The shock to me was how discourteous people can be to one another, people who are supposedly also looking to meet people, just treating them like a tasting plater. Sampling the tasty looking ones, ignoring the iffy ones, and spitting out anything that tasted a bit off. -The fist date was actually enthusiastic about the 12km walk, as long as it was with a public group, which it was. I actually messaged her back suggesting we do a short coffee date instead, and she said "no, the walk was a good idea, are there any more coming up?". -The second date asked about my previous relationship, and she talked about hers. The only thing I can think that might have turned her off was that she still wanted to start a family and I did not. It's possible she may have messaged me with an explanation before blocking me, not realising that I'd never be able to see it. Who knows. submitted by /u/BelchMeister to r/GuyCry [link] [comments]

[UPDATE] Bad Roommate threw a 5 AM Rager on a Monday, and I signed a new lease 3 days later.
Hey everyone! This is a follow-up to my original post about my roommate (Roommate 1 / “Bad Roommate”) who neglected her cat, disrespected shared spaces, and clashed with me any time I tried to set a boundary or compromise. About 5 days after I texted her asking if we could grab coffee and talk things out (no response), it’s her birthday. I expected some noise, sure—it’s her house too. She had people over the night before, so I figured that was it. NOPE. Monday night, I’m asleep by 11 because I have in-office work on Tuesdays. At 2:30 AM, I wake up to a huge group of people coming in. Music starts blasting. It’s a full-blown afterparty in our living room—on a Monday. The house is over 100 years old and the walls are paper thin. I text Good Roommate (Roommate 2), but she doesn’t reply because she left her phone upstairs to check things out. Bad Roommate even directs drunk strangers to use Good Roommate and I's shared bathroom (which backs against my bedroom wall), so now I’m hearing people slamming the door, laughing, and stumbling all night. (Would like to mention Bad Roommate has her own private bathroom upstairs on our 3rd floor that is perfectly usable) By 5:30 AM, I’ve gotten zero sleep. I peek out my window and—of course—some random dude is puking in our courtyard. Suddenly, I hear loud bangs, thuds, and yelling from the kitchen. I text Good Roommate again and find out a fight broke out between random bar guys and Bad Roommate’s boyfriend’s friends. Just straight-up bar fight in my kitchen. I tell Good Roommate someone threw up outside. Good Roommate (bless her) casually asks Bad Roommate if anyone puked. Bad Roommate, instead of helping, asks the drunk guys if they puked (lol). They say no (duh), so she accuses me of being paranoid and eavesdropping. Bad Roommate then goes to bed, leaving Good Roommate to kick out these drunk strangers until 7:30 AM. Later that day — after crashing at work and faking a reason to go home early — I finally get a response to my message from 5 days prior where I had asked to talk and "apologize". Here’s what she sent me: “You can and should apologize though and without therapy terms if possible, I’m listening. Also, I’m having people over Friday and would appreciate if you could get lost then ❤️” See attached screenshot [pic below]. That was it. I’m done. Three days later, I signed a lease for my own one-bedroom. I move in Saturday. I have no idea why she insisted both Good Roommate & I not sign the lease for this current space, but I am so thankful for her stupidity. She doesn’t know yet, Good Roommate told me privately that she's skipping out early in June. I’m out. I’m free. Reap what you sow. And no longer living with someone who thinks “get lost” is a cute way to communicate. https://www.reddit.com/r/badroommates/comments/1jqva24/my_roommate_is_extremely_entitled_and_controlling/ submitted by /u/iwantpudding_ to r/badroommates [link] [comments]

Filed an HRO against a creepy neighbor, he’ll be served this week
TLDR below I moved into a new building last summer, CN moved in last fall. We crossed paths at a building HH, I found out he’s new to the area, we’re in adjacent fields, he asked if I wanted to get a casual drink the following Sunday since he’s unfamiliar with the area, I said sure. After bellying up I made it clear I was freshly out of a relationship, not looking for anything with anyone, and I was excited to focus on myself. There was no flirting, no expressed interest. After two drinks we walked back to my unit, two floors below him and on the opposite side of the building. He wanted to see my puppy, I unfortunately let him in. As I was playing on the floor, he sat on the couch and said he wanted to massage my back, followed by “you shouldn’t wear shirts like this around me” and put his hands on my shoulders snd slid his right hand underneath my top and bra towards my breast. I snapped at him “wtf are you doing”, moved away, and told him to leave. It all happened so fast, I was shaken. At the door he asked if he could stay over, I said fuck no. He asked if I would kiss him goodnight, I said fuck no. Texting started early the next morning. I initially tried to be congenial as we’ll be occupying the same spaces for the foreseeable future. Then, I left to walk my puppy and found a note he’d left outside my door earlier that said “Headed to Whole Foods. Thinking about you. See you soon … X (heart)O”. Thats when I freaked out. My mind went to worst case scenario - this guy is psycho and I’m going to file a harassment order. Having gone through that before for myself and helping a friend, I’m aware of the need to articulate how someone is an active threat to one’s safety and that the petitioner had specifically said to stop. So I played the long game, told him I was uncomfortable, told him to stop, and eventually blocked him telling him why and to stop leaving notes for me. We’ve been in proximity of each other twice since - once in the park across the street (saw each other from a distance, I walked the opposite direction to avoid contact) and once by the coffee bar (he came down the stairs while I was making coffee, I had over the ear headphones on, we made eye contact for a moment, that was it). After each occasion he proceeded to leave notes outside my door. The most recent one was last week. I called a non-profit for advice on writing a Cease and Desist however due to the assault was encouraged to file a Harassment Restraining Order. I contacted another non-profit and they helped me file on Friday. It was approved yesterday (Monday) and he will be served this week. Once I have a copy of the approved order, it will come by mail in a day or two, I plan to give a copy to my property management - they’re aware of his history with me but aside from moving units (which wouldn’t really accomplish anything), I’m not sure there’s much else they can do. The order asks that he not enter any amenity space that I occupy, specifically the gym, sauna, or elevator. I’m wondering if anyone has had experiences with similar situations. Did the person stop contact? Try to address the order? Push boundaries? I have anxiety and want to prepare myself for what to do if he retaliates in some form. The fact that he even thinks I’d put myself in a swimsuit, in a sauna, in a compromised headspace with him is deranged and scary. I have no idea what to expect from this dude that’s eight years older than me and clearly can’t take “no” for an answer. He knows where I live and where I park. In my state there are two types of restraining orders: Order For Protection (OFP) for domestic relationships, romantic relationships, etc., and Harrassment Reatraining Order (HRO) for basically everything else. Using an alt for obvious reasons. TLDR: Creepy neighbor assaulted me in my apartment then harassed me via text and notecard. HRO will be served this week, I’m anxious and concerned about retaliation. submitted by /u/IJustCameToSayHellNo to r/Apartmentliving [link] [comments]

Absolutely baffled by the audacity.
My younger brother got married a few weeks ago and it was overall a lovely evening. Now this week I received a text from him saying “Hi wifes name just told me she hasn’t received your $115 each no rush you can send it to [email protected]” Now at no point before now was it communicated to me that they were charging guests to attend. Nowhere on the invitation either. Plus my husband and I already gave them $400 cash in their card. This wedding took place at an expensive restaurant downtown in a private room that’s famous for its architecture. No idea why they booked that place if they can’t afford it. No open bar or dance floor. We didn’t even drink alcohol that night and still paid $30 for pop and coffee plus Uber there and back. His only response is “oh thought you knew” “I forgot to tell you sorry” all nonchalantly. So infuriating. It got heated and I eventually told him I would send the money but he can wait now I’m pissed off. Now I’m considering not sending anything and if he asks I’ll say oh I forgot. Oh did I mention I also got married in June this year and didn’t charge anyone a dime. submitted by /u/Cloudy_skies1993 to r/weddingshaming [link] [comments]

“what kind of bar doesn’t serve coffee?” this bar sir. this bar.
i work at a cutesy little tiki bar in my city, and we do not have a coffee machine. we do not sell coffee. our cocktails are glorified sugar water, we don’t have a coffee machine or an espresso machine, and i’ve never asked why. i just work here lol. had a party of 3 come in for lunch today, and the older gentleman at the table ordered a coffee. our conversation went as follows. me: sorry sir we don’t actually sell coffee, is there something else i can offer you? i’ve got fountain pops, a full mocktail menu, and a couple juices if you’re not feeling boozy today! him: what kind of bar doesn’t serve coffee? surely you have coffee. me: no sir we do not sell coffee or tea unfortunately, the only hot drink i have would be hot water. is there anything else i can get you? him: speaking wildly slowly C O F F E E. me: sir. we do not have coffee. what else can i offer you? him: a fucking coffee! aanndddd then my manager heard them swear at me and took over the table bc no one swears at his staff unprompted and gets away with it :) i have no idea how the rest of their stay went bc they weren’t my problem after that but my god. if i say we don’t have something, please don’t argue! submitted by /u/kxmirx to r/TalesFromYourServer [link] [comments]

LPT - If you haven't already, start checking out the exits at the places you frequent.
Next time you're in the supermarket, coffee shop, school, work, movie theatre, bar, or especially the bigger buildings like the mall or Walmart, Target etc... wherever you (and your friends) go & hang out get a good, clear idea of how you will leave that place quickly. Eyeball the exits, plan a route. If you have a tight group of friends, maybe even take it a step further and prearrange a regrouping spot. I'm not suggesting a paranoid life but be aware, this little thing could be the difference. Stay safe brothers & sisters- submitted by /u/stryker511 to r/LifeProTips [link] [comments]

How are people affording Groceries?
I find myself completely disillusioned Every Single Time I leave the store. I can not keep up with this ever increasing trend of rising prices. I just left the store and for a quarter of a cart, basics, coffee, flour car food, milk, tp, etc was $90!! It's Always ALWAYS nearly $100 every time. How are we doing this??!!. I spend my money on rent, bills, gas and flipping groceries, and I cant save, can barely survive. How are you guys doing?? How do you afford food?? Heck butt paper is over $10 for 6 rolls that go so quick I'm convinced the whole "triple roll" is triple bullshit. What are some basic tips of the trade here other than using coupons, which I do, and only buying on sale, which is a given.. :) thanks for letting me rant. *edit to say I have never had a post get this much traction before, I'm old and slow but I'm trying my best to respond to you beautiful people. And also cat food not car food, the one damn time my phone doesn't autocorrect. Also thank you. Thank you for knowing there is so much commonality between us and so many wonderful ideas and tips. I hope that there is change in our futures. You younger generation gives this old broad a lot of hope, I know shit is super difficult right now, and seems bleak, but there is real chance now for change. I don't know how to fix it, but I got your backs all the way. Oh and *edit again to say two quick things. One it isn't so much about what is being bought, it's more about what same things were once bought two-three years ago were nowhere near as expensive as they are currently. And two what I bought. From my receipt.- Cat food $10, coffee $14 one pound, cat litter $16, tp $7, hot cocoa $2, granola bars 2-$5, Kroger raisin bran $3, Kroger sugar $4, Kroger flour $3, two cans of condensed milk $4, milk $3, and I splurged on a box of Annie's grams for $3 on sale, and a mix of curry for $3 and there ya have it and I apologize it was $80.98 not 90$ I rounded up incorrectly. But regardless this is not a splurging bill here. Just wanted to clarify. Thank you all again. submitted by /u/muddledarchetype to r/poor [link] [comments]

Opening up a sober bar and need ideas
I'm sober and I hate not having options at restaurants or when I go out with friends. So I decided to open a sober bar in my home town. I'm serving na beer, wine, mocktails. I'm fairly new to the sober community and could use help with ideas. What would you like to see? What would make you feel comfortable? submitted by /u/ThanksOther9614 to r/stopdrinking [link] [comments]

Getting better coffee
I used to work in a small office area and we had a simple coffee setup for those who liked to drink coffee during the workday. There was a list and when the current coffee supply was running low the next person on the list would bring in a bag of coffee for the office. There were ten or so people on the list meaning that any one person would have to bring in coffee every other month. It had worked rather well and everyone was happy with the set up. Enter Coffee Karen. It is her turn to get coffee and she brings in a pound of coffee from some local hipster coffee bar. It was good coffee, and everyone commented on her coffee selection. Thing was, this was “high end” designer coffee and cost about $20 per pound. When that coffee runs out the next person on the list decides that they didn’t want to be out done and gets a pound from a different bar with a similar price point. Again, good coffee and everyone comments on that person's coffee selection. This cycles through about four more times until it is my turn to bring in coffee. While I do enjoy a fancy cup of Joe, the normal for me is just whatever is about $6 a bag at the grocery store which is what I bring in and put by the coffee maker. About an hour later, Coffee Karen comes storming to my desk with my bag of coffee in her hand like it was half of a road kill she found on her way to work. Coffee Karen: “Did you bring this shit?” She has the bag pinched between two fingers and holding it in my face. Me: “Yeah, it was my turn to bring coffee.” Coffee Karen: “We don’t drink this crap any more here.” She drops it on my desk and sneers at me. “You had better go someplace for good coffee or we are going to cut you OFF!” and she walks away. Well, okay then I will do just as you say. After work I take my coffee and go home. I pass by a coffee house on my way home from work and go in. Nice place, they had made it look like a bar but serving coffee instead of alcohol. I ordered a house coffee and was able to talk to the Barista as I was the only one in the place not glued to a phone. I told him what had happened at work and what I was planning, which was to get a pound of his coffee, take it home, keep the good stuff and put the crap coffee in his bag. The Barista, who turned out to be the owner of the place, laughed and said he loved the idea. So I get a pound of the house coffee, and the guy throws in a few extra empty bags. “Keep going with it man, I like the idea.” The next day, I bring in my pound of crap coffee in the bag from the coffee bar and everyone is telling me how great it is. Coffee Karen comes to me and says “Now, isn’t this better than the shit you brought yesterday? Never bring in cheap coffee again!” I agree and tell her that the coffee from the bar was amazing. I just fail to mention that the coffee she was drinking was the same that she turned her Karen nose up at the day before. Later in the week I go back to the coffee bar and find the guy to tell him what happened. He loves it and said when I ran out of bags to come back and get more from him. I asked him why he was supporting my “Crap Coffee” in his packaging and he said “Well, they don’t know good coffee from crap coffee right? So, they like the coffee and they may come in here and get my good coffee and decide to get more of it. Free advertising for me.” It must have worked out for him because I saw a few of his coffee cups at work over the next few months. As for me, I got to wake up every morning to a nice cup of coffee Edited to remove items from Rule 8 submitted by /u/atombomb1945 to r/MaliciousCompliance [link] [comments]

TIFU by eating 8 chocolate fiber bars before a long car ride with family and experiencing the most absurd gas leak in history.
This happened a year ago, but I just remembered this horrific event and the poor victims that never fully recovered. I was set to go on an 10 hour road trip through the interior of British Columbia and with me were 2 of my cousins and my uncle. However, before our 6am start I decided the night before to wolf down these chocolate chip Fiber One granola bars that had something like 75% of your daily fiber intake. These things were crazy good and I ended up eating an entire 8 pack of them in one sitting. After that I went to sleep and woke up in the morning to a bloated stomach but felt fine otherwise. 45 minutes into our ride the cramps began. My stomach grew larger and larger and I ended up needing to remove my seatbelt, and undoing the zipper on my jeans to give it more space to expand. My cousin next to me couldn't believe what he was seeing, he said it was like the blueberry scene from Willy Wonka. I couldn't hold the gas in any longer and asked my uncle to pull over, which he did and I struggled to get out of my seat as every move was agony. I waddled to the back of the car and let her rip. A thunderous roar escaped me like an asshole racing his Harley Davidson around the block on a Sunday Morning. The gas hissed out of me as my stomach grumbled, shuffled and shuttered. I am not exagerrating when I tell you that this fart lasted AT LEAST 15 seconds. Little did I know that I had just broken the seal and I would proceed to experience uncontrollable and obnoxiously powerful farts that lasted 10-15 seconds on average, with only a brief period of relief between said farts. The fact of the matter was that I was now experiencing major flatulence every 2 to 3 minutes, and we couldn't stop the car every few minutes to escape the smell, so we decided to roll all the windows down and allow me to let loose whenever I needed. However, we had no idea that this would become a much longer ordeal than we initially thought. Truth be told, I couldn't stop farting for nearly 7 hours, and each fart just HAD to be more epic than the last. By the time hour 2 rolled around, my anus was sore and aching, and my insides feeling like shards of glass were ripping through me. And the smell had become so overpowering that we had to stop at a gas station and buy as many air fresheners as we could. I took one of the air fresheners and sat on it in the hopes that each fart will be freshened up - instead it just smelt like rotten eggs and pine. My cousins and uncle resorted to using Vicks around their noses to stop the smell. The pain from constantly farting brought me to tears at one point and I realized how ridiculous it must look to see a grown man crying while farting non stop. At hour 4 disaster struck. I stopped farting, but I was still swelling with gas. I knew I was plugged up and if I didn't do something soon the pain is going to become unbearable. We stopped at a Coffee Shop and I ran in to use the bathroom. I gingerly sat down on the toilet and gently pushed but the pain was too much. I resorted to pushing on my stomach to help things along and suddenly I felt this wave of pressure hit me that made my butt cheeks break into a cold sweat and start to tingle. Suddenly, and without warning, a rock hard turd rocketed out of me like a cannonball and plastered itself to the back of the toilet bowl, and with that this tidal wave of what could only be described as peanut butter oatmeal. I could feel the muscles in my abdomen squeezing my intestines so hard that it actually hurt. It was like when you are throwing up and you can feel your stomach violently squish itself to push everything out, but instead it was my butt that was throwing up. Once everything was pushed out it was topped off by the longest fart in my short, pathetic existence, one that I could never accurately give the length other than say well over 20 seconds, and that I could literally feel and see my stomach shrinking. I destroyed that poor coffee shop bathroom and I frequently wonder what happened to the person who wandered in after me. From that point forward the farts were just as frequent and long, but they felt cleaner and less restricted. It began to feel like I was airing my colon out, blowing out all the accumulated dust. My ribs and anus ached horribly, but I was starting to feel euphoria wash over me that I assumed was just the endorphin rush my body was giving as a way to protect my fragile mind from this ridiculous ordeal. By the time hour 7 rolled around my farts had slowly faded away, but the smell permeated my clothes and the seat behind me. The family had gone through almost an entire container of Vicks, and they appeared to have survived the ordeal but I could tell that a part of them was broken that could never be fixed. It was as though they felt violated by having to breathe in my butt breath for 7 hours, and I knew my uncle was upset that his car's interior would never smell the same again, as it already smelled like hot garbage by this point. We eventually arrived without incident, and we refused to speak of this event. Things were never really the same between all of us after that, and I have a feeling none of us will ever touch eggs ever again. They already ate enough of my farts, they don't need a reminder. I should have never eaten that much fiber. I had no idea it was capable of that. TL;DR - I ate too many fiber bars and ended up gassing my family nearly to death over 7 hours in a car. I made the scientific discovery that your body can produce ridiculously large farts at an alarming rate. 15 second farts on average with an average rate of 1 fart every 3 minutes. That means I was farting an average of 300 seconds an hour, or 2100 seconds over 7 hours. I farted for 35 minutes. LMAO Edit: I am glad that we can all laugh at my Fart Attack and the pain and suffering that comes from it, but please don't do what I did. I was a dumbass that couldn't stop eating chocolate, and what I did was dangerous. I'm certain you will only hurt yourself if you attempt this so please do not try this. Also I meant to individually thank people for awards via inbox but I lost count after 30 and decided to just say thank you from here. Thank you, from here. submitted by /u/Baba_dook_dook_dook to r/tifu [link] [comments]
