JB Hi-Fi tested my brand new coffee machine with a staff member’s water bottle and still refused refund
Not sure is this actually normal? Bought a coffee machine from JB Hi-Fi on Friday morning. Machine arrived faulty and wouldn’t even complete the first rinse cycle out of the box. Just flashing red constantly. Took it back the same afternoon thinking it would be a pretty straightforward exchange/refund situation. That was apparently optimistic. Staff member starts testing the machine and first asks me to hand him some random empty 1.5L bottle sitting near the counter so he can fill the machine with water. I said no because honestly that seemed insane. So instead he uses water from his own personal drink bottle to test my brand new coffee machine. At this point I’m already wondering if I’m overreacting or if this is genuinely bizarre. Anyway. Machine still not working properly. Then he swaps my original water tank with one from the display model and suddenly the machine works. He literally tells me: “See? No problem.” I said the original water tank was clearly faulty and the machine was unusable when I received it, so I’d prefer replacement or refund. That somehow triggered a full Australian Consumer Law debate. Staff member starts loudly explaining that: “THE WATER TANK IS NOT THE COFFEE MACHINE” and keeps repeating “minor fault”. Meanwhile I’m standing there thinking: isn’t the part that lets the coffee machine actually hold water kind of important to the coffee machine? Then I pointed out the replacement tank looked scratched and still had promotional stickers on it. Staff member loudly tells me: “THIS IS NEW.” Manager finally appears after standing nearby watching the whole thing for ages. Manager then says he’s “not technical”, won’t test the machine himself, and basically just repeats whatever the staff member says. I mention I may need to submit a complaint and manager responds with: “Yeah you can do that. They can’t do anything to us.” Honestly the whole interaction became so weird that I started taking comparison photos of the two water tanks because I felt like I was losing my mind. Best part: another JB Hi-Fi refunded the machine the very next day almost immediately because yes, the original water tank actually was faulty out of the box. Still trying to work out if using your own half-finished drink bottle to test someone’s brand new food appliance is normal retail procedure now. Edit: For everyone asking, it was JB Hi-Fi Narre Warren HOME. Already lodged a complaint through the website, but the confirmation email says the “support team at our Narre Warren HOME store will be in touch”. So from what I can tell, the people I’m complaining about are also the ones handling the complaint. Starting to see why the manager didn’t seem overly concerned when I mentioned it.🤷‍♂️ Edit 2: Okay so the complaint actually ended up getting escalated past the store. Area manager emailed me today and apologised for the whole experience. From the email, it sounds like JB normal procedure is usually sending stuff off to authorised service agents first before they decide whether it gets repaired or refunded or replaced etc. So I guess that’s why the manager kept telling me it would need to be assessed for potentially 15 days to a month first. So yeah, fair enough, I can at least understand that side of it a bit more now. I think the part that still felt weird to me was more just how the whole thing was handled. Especially since the original tank actually WAS faulty, another JB refunded it almost immediately the next day, and this entire situation still involved a staff member testing a brand new coffee machine using his own drink bottle 😭 Anyway. At least I now know complaints do go higher than the actual store lol submitted by /u/OriginalDerekV to r/australian [link] [comments]

What is the Best Espresso Machine for daily use as of today 2026?
This is gonna be a long post but I need your help…!! 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 Hi everyone, first time posting! I am looking into getting an espresso machine soon and I cannot decide which one is the best bang for my buck! The first one (Thyme & Table) has been on my eye for a solid year HOWEVER, with further research I see its durability isn’t the greatest because it’s made of plastic and I guess the espresso is inconsistent. The reason why I liked this one so much is cause it’s simple and affordable! So I started looking at Chefman and it’s more durable than Thyme & Table but it apparently has issues with the grinder and not as durable as well. THEN I went down a rabbit hole… I ended up just looking at my dream machine the Breville and my husband said we could talk about getting it even though it’s pricey but it lasts longer! But my problem with all of these machines (including the Ninja Luxe) is all in one espresso machines seem to be less durable and I’m having a hard time justifying spending hundreds of dollars on a espresso machine that could break down 🫣 I am also leaning towards the Ninja Luxe but again, all in ones seem to have this breaking down issue… So another option for longevity and consistent espressos was the Breville Bambino with that Baratza grinder, but I like the idea of an all in one 🫣🤣😭 Do you guys have experience with any of these espresso machines? Did you have any issues? Which one would you get? Bottom line, I am willing to splurge on a good machine, I would like to go for a more affordable one but if we are comparing longevity, that is most important to me as I don’t want to have to have an issue with the machine one day (with in 5 years) and have to replace it 😵‍💫 also! I plan on getting a regular coffee pot so I am not constantly abusing the espresso machine LOL! I am a retired Keurig user… I don’t ever want to own one ever again lol Thanks for reading!!! submitted by /u/HugeCandle271 to r/JamesHoffmann [link] [comments]

Large office coffee machine labeled “Sade” and “Not Sade” — no one knows what it means
At my large office, our dual coffee machine has two white labels on the front. One side says “Sade” and the other says “Not Sade.” They’re just regular printed labels stuck above each coffee dispenser. Same coffee brand on both sides. No other explanation. It's also the only dual coffee machine in the entire building that has these labels. It bothers me every time I see it. Have talked to many co-workers and no one knows what it means. AITA for refusing to clean the coffee machine at work?
I work in a space with about 20 coworkers. We share a break room and the coffee amenities that are in it. That includes a fancy coffee machine, a lot of mugs, and a dishwasher for said mugs. The coffee machine needs to be cleaned daily so that the milk inside does not curdle overnight. This means running the cleaning cycle and opening the machine to wash some of the individual components inside. The office has a weekly rotation for the coffee cleaning duty. Managers are exempt from that duty, so the common worker like me is typically in charge of cleaning the coffee machine for a week every few months. On top of that, everyone leaves their dirty mugs in the kitchen sink and the person on rotation is expected to load and unload the dishwasher multiple times a day so that everyone has clean mugs at all times. On days when the managers have business visitors, this can add up to a lot of mugs to cater to the visitors' coffee needs. I understand that the coffee machine and mugs are a common amenity and I agree that if you use them, you should contribute. That said, I do not drink coffee. It is a well-known fact among my coworkers that I dislike coffee, they even joke about it. I do not use the coffee machine, be it for coffee, hot chocolates, or even hot water. I don't even use the mugs. I prefer drinking juice, sodas, or water that I bring with me every morning in my own containers (bottles or tumblers). I asked to be kept off of the cleaning rotation, since I don't use the coffee machine and most likely never will. I find it a bit ridiculous to only touch the coffee machine to clean it, and to be asked to clean after everyone for something I'll never use. My coworkers are split on that matter. Some agree with me, others say that I should contribute to "living in society" regardless and do it to keep the peace. I'd argue that they have a vested interest in me participating so that they can clean less often. I am aware that this is just a coffee machine, and I'd be cleaning it for just a week every few months, but the principle of it bothers me. Looking for a coffee machine that lasts forever
Hey everyone, I’m tired of buying cheap coffee machines that die after a year or two. I want to get one good machine that I can use for a long time without worrying.I don’t care about fancy stuff—just want something that’s strong, easy to fix if it breaks, and makes good coffee every time. Mostly I drink [drip coffee/espresso], but I’m open to anything that lasts. If you have a coffee machine that’s been working for years, please tell me what it is and what I should look for before buying. submitted by /u/Fav-opinion-fr-u to r/BuyItForLife [link] [comments]

Bought my husband a new coffee machine for our anniversary. What was in the box, was not what was pictured on the box.
And the store won’t even take it back, because they don’t believe that the contents were incorrect, like I swapped it. Grrrrr!!! Do you really need to buy an expensive Espresso machine for home use?
So, I am very new to coffee stuff since I dont actually drink coffee before... but recently I have been exploring it, first trying out UCC instant coffee which worked for awhile for me but then I found Iced Latte and this is the perfect blend for me and I want to try making it at home so I it will be cheaper but then I learned that you need Espresso for this which you need Espresso machine. I find it pretty expensive to order on grab every time I want some Iced Latte. So after searching on reddit most recommend an expensive Espresso Machine which I get it, most of the time expensive means better but I am just getting into this and I cant justify buying an expensive one, I was planning for around 10k budget max? but even with that I am still doubtful it will be that good investment imo. So is it reasonable to buy expensive espresso machine for home use? or buy something mid range price? or do you have any tips making espresso without using espresso machine? Edit: I got overwhelm with the replies huhu, didnt expect this many replies. I cant respond to all of them but I am reading them. Thank you everyone, I really appreciate it. submitted by /u/Bangreed4 to r/CoffeePH [link] [comments]

Our Ninja coffee maker died on us 16 months into ownership. Unwilling to repeatedly buy garbage over the years, I checked out the recommendations and we gave it a go. Boiled coffee in a pot contains high levels of the worst of cholesterol-elevating substances. Coffee from most coffee machines in workplaces also contains high levels of cholesterol-elevating substances. However, regular paper filter coffee makers filter out most of these substances, finds study.

What is growing in my coffee machine?
I noticed a lot of mould in my coffee machine drip tray so I opened up the side of the coffee machine And saw this… It appears as though there are tiny microscopic bugs moving around but they are too small to tell what they are. this was back in February this year. our company had around ~15 office floors with coffee machines. when the cafe opened up, all the machines were removed. to add insult to injury, we were promised a free cup of coffee if we published an impactful research article. for reference, it takes in the order of hundreds of hours (per person) to publish a paper. what the fuck. /end rant. submitted by /u/hockey1949 to r/antiwork [link] [comments]

TIFU by purchasing an expensive coffee machine and making a terrible discovery
I drink a lot of coffee. My mornings consist of two 300ml mugs of coffee, and I sometimes have a third after dinner later in the day. Recently, I got far too into James Hoffmann's videos and decided to upgrade my shitty drip coffee machine for a proper precision brewer. And when I say precision, I mean that this thing comes with a water testing strip so you can calibrate the machine for the mineral content in your water supply. Serious nerd shit. To justify the ludicrous amount of money I spent on what appears to be the Hadron Collider of coffee machines, I did some research on brewing ratios in order to maximise the allegedly life-changing potential of this equipment. Now, coffee science says the ideal water-to-beans ratio for this brew method is about 60g of grounds per litre of water. Out of interest, I decided to prepare my usual ratio from the old machine and see how close I was. It turns out, since I got the old machine just over a year ago, I've been brewing at about 20g/litre, resulting in what I now realise is pathetically weak brew. I prepared a proper 60g/L brew with the new machine, and the resulting coffee was on another planet. The flavours were so developed it was like I could taste the touch of the Colombian farmer who picked the beans. I drank my full morning dose of two 300ml mugs in just over an hour. And then, I discovered an unexpected side effect. The year of drinking weak-ass brew has conditioned my body for weak coffee. And I had just drunk over half a litre of coffee that was theoretically three times as strong as usual. It has now been an hour since I finished that first pot and I can hear the passage of time. A fly flew past me in slow motion. I made an omelette for lunch and I beat the egg so fast it turned into steam. My heart no longer beats; it vibrates. And there is something unholy brewing in my lower intestine and I am fearing the wrath of God when it is released. Send help. TL;DR: My new coffee machine gave me the knowledge that I've been conditioning my body to piss-weak brew for a year, and two cups of the real strong stuff made me transcend the space-time continuum. EDIT: Here is the machine I bought, for those who have asked, although it appears to be sold out at the moment. Did I get the last one? And here is the James Hoffmann review that convinced me to ruin my life in this particular way. EDIT 2: To everyone accusing this of being some kind of viral ad, it's true. Sage paid me, and in fact specifically requested I include the details of me plastering the inside of my toilet bowl following the intestinal catastrophe their product gave me. Aggressive shitting is exactly the kind of PR exposure they want for their brand. submitted by /u/PresidentWeevil to r/tifu [link] [comments]
