Is Collagen Actually Doing Anything, or Are We Just Convincing Ourselves It Works?
Honestly, collagen strikes me as one of those supplements people really want to believe in, so at the end they convincingly tell themselves it works. Here’s what interests me. At the end of the day, collagen is just protein. When you take it, your body breaks it down into amino acids, the same way it would with any other protein source. It’s not like it gets a VIP pass to your skin, hair, or joints with a label that says “deliver here.” So if you’re already getting enough protein in your diet, what is collagen adding that you would not get from your regular food? Curiosity got me researching and comparing different products, checking labels, even looking into how they are manufactured (yes, I ended up browsing at the likes of alibaba listings). And honestly, at the basic level, most collagen supplements are always identical. The differences tend to be branding, flavors, and the marketed benefits. And yet, plenty of people stand by it. They talk about clearer skin, stronger nails, less joint pain. That’s where my confusion comes in. It feels like there are only two real possibilities: either collagen has some unique benefit that is not clearly explained, or the effect comes down to expectation and perception. I’m not saying that it does nothing, but I do question how much the impact is, physical versus psychological. So I’m curious, if you’ve tried collagen, did you notice results that went beyond what you would expect from simply improving your overall diet? submitted by /u/Eli_Shelby to r/Supplements [link] [comments]

Got a fake collagen powder from Walmart
Ordered this from walmart and took it for the last two weeks only to gradually start sneezing, breaking out, and getting headaches. I decided to stop taking it when I started getting cysts all over my body and a raw mouth and finally connected the two. This morning I looked at the container and noticed "UNFLAVORED" was spelled incorrectly on the bottom right. Walmart gave me a refund and a $25 off $45 coupon. I asked for an incident report as well as to speak to a manager, I got told I'd get a call back and didn't. I also reported it to the FDA. The company selling this on Walmart has an address that doesn't match up with the actual company. I'm furious and all freaked out that I ingested literal garbage for the past two weeks and don't know what else to do. submitted by /u/BlueJune101 to r/Supplements [link] [comments]

[Misc] Genuinely looking younger than your age has way more to do with structure than it does wrinkles or collagen
Many people, on reddit and real life, will exclaim "I look 10+ years younger than my age!", and will attribute it to moisturizing and "low stress" and healthy diet and all the usual copes. But none of these things would hide your true age from others upon a glance. The changing structure of the face, both in the fat pads and the bone is what gives it immediately. Moisturizing is not going to prevent your temples becoming more pronounced, nor the fascia slowly slipping down your cheek bones and lowering. None of these surface level remedies are going to prevent your forehead from becoming more prominent, and even a hair transplant covering it likely cant deceive a bigger forehead. The mark of youth is generally a v-tapered headshape, and the mark of age is a pyramid shape. Hard surgeries like a deep plane facelift, bone shaving in the forehead as well as a forehead reduction, partial buccal fat removal, and probably some fat grafting in the eye area, maybe HRT as well might be able to take 10+ years off your face, to where you genuinely fool people in that age group you're one of them. As well as probably PRF or similar injections starting in your 20s to keep your elastin from letting out as much as possible. But the subtlest changes in structure give your age away almost immediately, no matter your "skincare routine". That being said, those who have come across people who legitimately look in their late teens/early 20s when they're in their 30s, or late 20s in their 40s, feel free to share your experiences. I think we all know once you get over 50 everyone starts to blur, and it becomes much easier for a 70 something to look in their 60s or wtv. But those earlier ages are the true feat submitted by /u/-7-luck to r/SkincareAddiction [link] [comments]

People who actually took collagen supplements — did you notice any real benefits?
I see collagen supplements being promoted everywhere lately, especially for skin, hair, nails, and joint health. Personally, I have some scientific reservations about how effective they actually are, but I'm genuinely curious about real-world experiences from people who have actually used them for a while. Did you notice any meaningful benefits? If yes, what improved the most? • Skin appearance • Hair or nail growth • Joint comfort • Recovery after exercise Also, how long did you take collagen before noticing any change? I'm trying to understand the difference between marketing claims and actual user experiences. Would appreciate hearing honest feedback from people who have tried it. submitted by /u/DrYasserElDershaby to r/Biohackers [link] [comments]

To the collagen users here, are you actually seeing measurable differences?
Hi everyone. I have been looking into the benefits of collagen for a while now (and actually just bought recently to test it) because I am starting to feel some "creakiness" in my joints after my morning runs. I also wouldn't mind the skin benefits that everyone talks about. However, I am really struggling with the logic of it. For those of you who swear by it, what were the first signs that it was actually working? Is it a change in recovery time, or is it purely aesthetic like nail and hair growth? I am also curious if I am handling the dosage correctly. I take 10 grams a day, but should I be pairing it with Vitamin C or taking it on an empty stomach for better absorption? I would love to hear what your favorite high-bioavailability brand is. I really want this to work, so any advice on how to better track the results would be great. Thank you! Update: Few of you mentioned that not all collagen is created equal in terms of processing and purity. I ended up going to iHerb because they have a massive selection of third-party tested brands. I switched to a hydrolyzed version with a better amino acid profile and added Vitamin C as suggested. Thanks! submitted by /u/MunazzahNakor to r/Biohackers [link] [comments]

I was skeptical about collagen peptides until I stopped taking them
I rlly didn’t think collagen peptides were doing much for me at first. I was taking them daily for abt half a year and didn’t feel some big obvious change, so I figured yeaah okay probably placebo and stopped buying them lol Went about 2 months without taking any. That’s when I actually noticed stuff going downhill, like a slow “why do I feel worse lately” kind of thing What crept back in: - joint stiffness came back, esp knees and shoulders - started feeling drier again, esp in colder weather - nails felt weaker and broke more easily?? which was very oddly specific - digestion felt more annoying overall, more unpredictable I didn’t immediately connect it to collagen until it clicked that the timing lined up pretty perfectly haha. Then I started taking Naturecan collagen peptides again and I'm never going back to not taking it submitted by

What collagen supplement actually gave you the most results?
I've tried a couple over the past year (bovine, mostly powders) but not sure if they're doing anything tbh. Skin seems the same, joints feel okay... but that might just be luck. I keep hearing people swear by collagen for skin, nails, joints, etc. But has anyone here actually seen a noticeable difference? Not placebo.. like real visible results. Would love to hear what's worked for you. Or if it's all hype, that's fine too lol. Thanks! UPDATE: I started ancient bliss marine collagen, and I have found it to be the absolute most effective for me. had no luck with nutricost or vital proteins unfortunately. I can attest that taking two scoops daily has made a Huge difference in my skin and energy. submitted by /u/Responsible-Mind8037 to r/30PlusSkinCare [link] [comments]

Saw my mum taking collagen. I'm devastated.
I asked her if she knows how it's made and if it's at least sourced "ethically". She said she can't go into the depth of this the way I do and that I can't expect her to feel the way that I do. I told her that it's disappointing that she DOESN'T feel the way I do. I asked her if she thinks it's okay and she said she's too old to change all this. She's taking collagen for her skin dude. For her SKIN. She's justifying killing animals just so that she has clear glowy skin?!?!?! Please I just wanna die. My head hurts and y'all have no idea the way I'm trying to hold back tears. My chest is so tight rn and my ears are ringing from all the anger and sadness I'm feeling. I wanna cut my family out of my life but I can't cuz I'll be homeless. I keep hearing people swear by collagen for skin, nails, joints, etc. But has anyone here actually seen a noticeable difference? Not placebo.. like real visible results. Would love to hear what's worked for you. Or if it's all hype, that's fine too lol. Thanks! submitted by /u/Personal-Weekend3173 to r/Supplements [link] [comments]

The way collagen peptides sink in the drink
collagen peptides are a protein supplement, they don't taste like much so I put them in my coffee, and the way they slip away from the outside in is super cool submitted by /u/brainlure49 to r/oddlysatisfying [link] [comments]

YSK that Collagen and Gelatin are always from animals and there is no vegetable source.
Collagen is that protein that makes up most of our bodies, our connective tissues, skin, bones, arteries.. Gelatin is just processed collagen. In the plant kingdom, they're not made out of proteins like us, but out of cellulose fibre, a carbohydrate. So when you have a vegetable alternative to things that are traditionally made with gelatin, you don't use a plant protein, but plant fibre. It's that structure-creating vibe of these molecules that provides structure to things we need gelatinized or glued together or thickened or whatever. Collagen supplements are huge nowadays. These are made from animal hides and bones or maybe fish scales or chicken sternums/crops. There is no vegetable that produces collagen, but I think a company called Gelita Geltor has introduced bacterial gelatin, I guess from a GMO bacterium. Collagen supplements are extra-processed gelatin, btw. Gelatin is long tangles of protein that hold their shape and hold water. Collagen supplements break these tangles up into small pieces that dissolve into water, hold no shape, and are easier to absorb intact. F to the y i. Thank you for your kind attention. . Human corneas have been 3D printed for the first time. Stem cells from a healthy donor cornea were mixed with alginate, a gel derived from seaweed, and collagen to create a “bio-ink”. Using a 3D printer, this bio-ink was extruded into concentric circles to form an artificial cornea.
