I'd like to share my experience with the Nomad. First, the positives: The user interface, menus, etc., in both the app and on the watch itself are much better implemented by Coros than by Garmin. It's simply a pleasure to use; I can find everything I'm looking for, and exactly where I expected it to be. I think that's fantastic! However, for me, there's still room for improvement compared to Garmin. Why? I go trail running and often run new, different routes. These are often paths that are only shown on official topographic maps, but not in Komoot, plotaroute, etc. Coros might be using OpenStreetMap...? Well, in any case, these paths are missing. And no, I don't want to draw the paths into OpenStreetMap myself. I don't have time for that. Does anyone know if there are any plans to integrate official topographic maps? Like those from GeoBasis, for example? I could also imagine that this is one of the reasons why a Garmin watch costs more than a Coros. Regarding maps: I think it would be great if I could create a route myself on my computer using the web app in the Training Hub and assign it directly to the respective workout. That would be much more seamless. Not with OpenStreetMap, but with official topographic maps. It would also be good to have offline maps available in the smartphone app. You often don't have internet access when you're out and about. And you simply have a better overview on your smartphone. ... Of course, I could also use my "real" map. Otherwise I really like the Nomad. My Pace Pro stopped working and COROS said the Pace Pro is out of stock so they’re offering a Nomad as replacement. I mostly do road running, park runs, and gym workouts. From what I’ve read the Nomad is more of an adventure/outdoors watch and has a MIP display vs the Pace Pro’s AMOLED. Feels like a lateral move at best? Has anyone used both? Trying to decide between the two watches. Among other outdoor activities, my main motivation for getting the watch is mountaineering in WA. I want to be able to use offline maps to route, especially in the event of a whiteout. Long battery life is a must for multi day trips. I don't care about all the other bells and whistles. Hi everyone, I’m currently deciding between the Coros Nomad and the Garmin Instinct 3 (Solar) 45 mm, and I’d really appreciate feedback from people who actually own or have owned one (or both). First Coros and GPS-enabled watch purchase. I've used a Garmin Instinct Tac, but wanted better features for personal use. Still in the first few days and going through the initial customizing, but enjoying it so far. Only drawback is not having or seeing an option for a second time zone. Having an extremely difficult time choosing between the two. Price is not a factor, I just want a rugged outdoor first watch. Most important things to me are (in no order): navigation (how much better is the full maps vs breadcrumb for hiking? I tend to use my phone but battery issues have caused me to look for alternatives), screen clarity (is monochrome MIP significantly better than coros latest gen of colored mip?) and longevity. For the last three weeks, I was side-by-side comparing two devices: the Suunto Race 2 and the Coros Nomad (I targeted the Apex/Pace 4, but only the Nomad was in stock at the time). I'm not a reviewer; I tested them for my own purposes, just to help me decide which one to keep and which one to return. Hey everyone, I’m stuck between the Coros Nomad and the Coros Pace Pro and could really use some help from people who have used them longer than a week. My use case: I wear my watch all day, every day Gym 5x/week (I don’t track gym workouts, but I still wear the watch) Corporate office 5 days a week (so it needs to look decent) Running in the city 3–5x/week (around 25–45 km weekly) Hiking 1–2 times a month (crossing deep rivers) I track sleep every night I use maps/navigation for hiking I want something that will last at least 2 years with strong battery and durability My concerns: Pace Pro: Love the AMOLED screen, but I’m worried it might be too fragile or “soft” for outdoor activities like hiking and river crossings. Anyone had issues with the screen cracking or getting scratched easily? Nomad: Amazing battery and durability, but I’m worried it looks too much like a G-Shock for office use. Also not sure how I’d feel going back to a MIP display after using an Apple Watch for years. Does the MIP screen feel too dated? I’m writing this review after trying the Suunto Race S, the Amazfit T-Rex 3, and after being a long-time owner of the Garmin Instinct 2. I think I’ve finally found my definitive sports watch, the Coros Nomad. Of course, everyone needs to find the watch that fits their own needs. For context: I go to the gym three times a week, run once a week, and do trekking on free weekends when I can. Build quality I honestly expected it to feel cheaper from the photos, but in person it gives a real sense of solidity. It feels like something that won’t get damaged if you bump it around. The raised bezel actually protects the glass better than most sapphire crystals — I’ve already tested it. I have a small wrist (16.5 cm / 6.5"), but the fit is perfect. It doesn’t look bulky at all, and any worries about thickness or size disappear as soon as you wear it. It feels compact and light despite the rugged design. T-Rex 3 for example felt like wearing a toy on my wrist even if the build quality is great. Interface and usability The interface is very intuitive and easy to navigate. I’ve never found it this effortless to move through menus using only buttons. I don’t even use the touchscreen; I just don’t feel the need, and it keeps the screen clean. The UI has a slightly old-school look that’s actually charming. I was initially impressed by Suunto’s clean design, but Coros’s layout is simply more practical: everything you need is where it should be, and it’s highly customizable. Display The MIP display is great but it doesn’t have the same contrast as my Instinct 2 indoors (I usually keep the backlight off), probably because this one is in color. When the backlight is on, it’s perfect in any lighting condition. Having an always-on screen is unbeatable. A watch’s job is to tell the time, period. I can’t stand all the wrist-rotation gestures AMOLED displays force you to do. Also, I find those bright panels uncomfortable in certain settings. With a MIP screen, I feel like I’m wearing a true sports watch, not a smartwatch. Everyday use I keep Do Not Disturb always on because I want to check notifications, but I don’t want vibrations or the screen lighting up when they arrive. Very few competitors allow that. The strap looks great (24 mm was a fantastic choice), even though it can be tricky to find the perfect tightness — but that’s true for most watches. Navigation I tried a trekking route imported from Komoot and it was excellent. Sending the route was intuitive, just a couple of steps, not as bad as some users complained. Using the map directly on the watch was impressive — always visible, no distractions from my phone and it shows all the trail I found. Gym tracking, the weak point Now for the only real downside: gym tracking. That’s actually the activity I do most often, so it matters to me. I use “Gym Cardio” because I don’t want to waste time logging reps or weights. The problem is that Nomad’s heart rate response lags by about ten seconds. When I finish a set, it takes a bit before the HR graph catches up. This happens whether I’m working upper or lower body. Other watches have this issue too, but the comparison still hurts: even my old Instinct 2 tracks HR fluctuations more accurately. And yes, I know a chest strap would fix it, but I just want a rough estimate, not medical-level precision. When you pay hundreds of euros for a watch, you expect it to at least give reasonable training metrics. Because of that HR lag, training metrics like Training Load and Anaerobic Training Effect end up way off. I always get “low” Training load (under 100) and “insufficient” anaerobic TE (0,5-0,7), even after intense workouts. With Garmin, I’d always get at least 2.5–3 anaerobic TE, which matched how hard I actually worked. I think this is a serious flaw Coros should address. It’s not acceptable to just say “it’s hard to measure” and leave it at that. I just want roughly realistic data to understand if I trained decently. When metrics show near zero, it makes the watch useless for that purpose. I really hope Coros is aware of this and working on a fix. Battery Apart from that, I have to give Coros major credit: this is the kind of watch you just want to wear every day, worry-free. The battery is outstanding — I did a full day of hiking with GPS always on and it only dropped 10 percent. That’s impressive. Hope this helps anyone with similar needs who’s still undecided. I got a Nomad 12 days ago and have used it pretty extensively now. My main usage is trail running and hiking in the UK Lake District. For me the key things I really like are maps and the screen. Previously Coros maps were dire frankly, slow and laggy and lacked detail - this is all fixed! During an activity you can swipe left with the touchscreen to bring up maps (or remap the action button) and quickly zoom in and out of maps with the crown - no other watch gets close to this mapping quality and interaction speed apart from the Sunnto Race / Race 2 speed wise. (I discount the Pace Pro due to its use of dark mode for maps) The MIPS screen is also excellent - during daylight / bright sun, visibility is excellent and as someone who has been using AMOLED lately (Pace Pro) having the screen always be on without gestures is nice. The Nomad for me will be replacing my Pace 3 (for battery life) and Vertix 2s (for maps). I recently picked up a Coros Nomad. One thing I was not too happy with on the Pace Pro is that maps have a ‘dark mode’ type look that can’t be disabled which can make them quite hard to see, and the fonts are tiny, again hard to read with my aging eyes. Its also easier to make out different trails too at the same zoom level Apologies for the indoor photo but hopefully it illustrates the point! Yesterday I became the owner of a Coros Nomad, congratulations! My first impression was strange as soon as I took it out of the box and put it on. How did Coros figure out how to place the function button under the wheel? It's completely unnatural! I wear the watch on my right hand, and my index finger rests on the wheel, and my thumb rests on the action button! Yes, I can swap the buttons, but only when the activity is running! What were you thinking!? The buttons are just awkward to press! That's my first impression... My second impression is that I didn't figure out how to turn off auto lap... only how to turn off lap notifications. Third: how can I completely turn off heart rate measurement? I only see "every 10 minutes" and "Real time." And fourth (inspired by my Garmin Instinct 2): why can't I minimize the activity and see the watchface? Everything I wrote can easily be corrected in code and doesn't require new features! There’s still a lot of discussion around the Coros Nomad, so I thought I’d share my initial impressions after picking one up and spending a bit of time with it. Perhaps one more post like this is what helps someone who is on the fence about picking it up or not :) For reference, my watch history includes: Apple Watch (regular and Ultra), Garmin Fenix 5 and 6, Garmin Enduro, Suunto Run, Suunto Vertical, Coros Vertix 2 and 2S, and a brief try with the Pace Pro. The only big ecosystem I haven’t really explored is Polar (aside from chest straps). I don’t really use smart features (I turn notifications off), so I can’t comment on that side. For me, it’s all about sports tracking and navigation, and I’m fine with Coros leaving out smart features to keep the cost down. I also didn’t go into this launch expecting a new Apex, so I wasn’t among those who felt disappointed. For me, it just looked like an interesting watch that seemed to fix some of the issues that made me avoid the Garmin Instinct 3, so I gave it a shot. What I like so far MappingWith the latest updates, the Nomad’s mapping is the best I’ve used. Road names are now implemented, trails and roads are easy to tell apart, and the fast processor makes zooming and panning buttery smooth. For my use (scouting ahead, orienting myself), responsiveness matters more than extra features. Garmin still has some functionality advantages, but the lag kills the experience for me. Compared to the Suunto Race and Vertical, which are almost as fast, the lack of road names still makes Nomad my top pick. Build quality and weightThis might sound odd, but I actually prefer the full polymer case over the titanium/polymer mix on the Vertix. It feels more consistent, the weight is way down, and overall it just feels “right” for the watch. Add in clicky, tactile buttons that leave no doubt you’ve pressed them — even while running — and I’ve been pleasantly surprised. Adventure logThe new voice note transcription feature is neat. I don’t yet know if I’ll use it heavily or if it’ll just be a novelty, but it’s a welcome step toward catering to hikers and adventurers. DisplayI really like that Coros is still pushing MIP displays instead of going all-in on AMOLED. This one has the best contrast and sharpness I’ve seen so far. Of course it can’t match AMOLED for pop or color, but that’s not the point. For readability and avoiding raise-to-wake, this hits the sweet spot. Things I don’t love StrapThe stock strap isn’t bad, but there is not a lot of stretch and I find myself stuck between two adjustment holes — either slightly too tight or slightly too loose. Suunto’s straps with a bit of stretch feel more comfortable. I’ll probably switch to a nylon strap once Coros releases them. The Coros appMy biggest frustrations aren’t with the watch but with the app: * Importing historic activities from other platforms (especially hiking and MTB) is still clunky. * Activity history is just a basic list with limited sorting — it doesn’t give a good overview of training. With the risk of sounding like a Suunto sales rep, I still think they set the standard here. Other gripesThis has been mentioned in other reviews, but a proper LED flashlight would have been great. Same goes for a backlight that you can toggle off with a single button press — small usability things that make a big difference outdoors. Also, sapphire glass would have been nice on a watch aimed at adventure use. I get that cost is a factor, but it would have made the Nomad feel even more durable and “complete.” Final thoughts Every watch is a compromise and to keep the Nomad at its price point, Coros clearly made a few. But after some time with it, I honestly think this is the best watch they’ve produced so far. It feels like they’re branching out beyond just running focus and leaning more into adventure features. My main complaints are app-related, which are things that can hopefully be fixed over time. I’ve been testing the new COROS Nomad for the past couple of weeks (YouTube reviewer), and it feels like a nice different shift for COROS. Instead of being focused strictly on endurance running like the Pace/Apex/Vertix, the Nomad is aimed more at outdoorsy types — hikers, campers, even anglers. A few standout things I’ve noticed so far: Design & Build: Raised bezel, mineral glass lens, ~61g weight. Big but not clunky, and feels like it could take a beating. Although I did see that Dave Dillion (Chase The Summit) has already put a small scratch in his. Display & UI: 1.3" MIP touchscreen. Not AMOLED, but very readable outdoors and battery-friendly. New Ambiq Apollo 510 chip makes scrolling/maps feel faster than older COROS models. Mapping: Big upgrade, trails vs roads, road names, POIs, plus turn-by-turn navigation. Feels closer to Garmin’s Instinct/Fenix mapping now. The Map update is coming to the Pace Pro 👌 but not other COROS watches. 😬 Journaling: This is brand new, you can drop pins, record voice notes (auto-transcribed in the app), and even add photos/videos tied to your activity. Kind of like a digital adventure diary. This stuff is coming to all the watches but the NOMAD is the only one with a built in mic. Fishing Modes: Multiple profiles (shore, boat, fly fishing, etc.) + digital “anchor” that alerts if you drift too far from a spot. Seems niche, but surprisingly clever. (I'd love to hear what actual fishermen think of it) Sensors & Accuracy: Dual-band GPS, baro altimeter, HR sensor (with ECG-style HRV tracking), and updated SpO2. GPS has been rock-solid so far. (Even Open Water Swimming!) HR a touch slow to lock, then stable. Battery Life: Around 22 days (34h dual-band GPS / 50h all-systems GPS). That puts it just behind the Apex Pro but still really competitive with Garmin Instinct 3 and Amazfit T-Rex 3. Price is $350, which I think is solid considering the features. If I had to compare, it feels like COROS’s answer to the Garmin Instinct line.
