My prep cook has been sabotaging the prep for months and walked out after mother's day
So I work Friday Saturday Sunday in the prep hall and I've been dealing with this coworker who I thought only had a bad attitude. Turns out he's been sabotaging us for months. They only schedule one prep monday-thursday and on his days his manager has been allowing him to get away with only prepping for their shift. The Wednesday/Thursday prep had been playing catch-up by themself and I still had to come in Friday to empty fucking shelves. This Monday he clocked in, didn't begin the prep, and just walked out without telling anyone. They didn't even notice he was missing until an hour into the shift and I didn't arrive to cover the shift for another hour so prep began two hours late. When I showed up to cover his ass I got the critical items done (including things that the list was missing), and skipped the foh upsell items so that I could deep clean the stove for the first time in months because I felt relieved and motivated at the same time knowing that the person responsible for what my weekends being hell wouldn't be around. Two of his favorite lines when I worked with him on the weekend were "I have to do all this shit by myself" (as a response to anybody bitching about the job) and "who's this we" (any time I tried to communicate about what we had left on the list) Pictured is the weekday prep list which I thought was easy as fuck by myself. I did have a coworker after the GM knew what was up and scheduled us together to unfuck the prep list. Weekends the entire list has been full. submitted by /u/secretsesameseed to r/KitchenConfidential [link] [comments]

It was run out of a church by some very nice people, but I'm glad it wasn't heavily attended because the whole process was very slow. Definitely impressed by what I got, especially the meat; that will last a month. The gentleman doing intake was hard of hearing, so he may have misheard my household size and put me down for more. That just means I can space out my visits and let other folks go more frequently. There was a bag of salad mix as well that somehow escaped the camera. I'm really excited to break up with my boyfriend
Basically, things have been rough for the last month or so. There were a couple things in the relationship that I was noticing and finding really concerning, so I sat and tried to talk to him and he shut me down. He didn't even fight or argue with me, just said "i have nothing special to say," "I only want to think about work," and "your concerns and feelings are really small." So, since my thoughts and feelings are small and unimportant and he only wants to think about work, then I'm going to give him that freedom. I refuse to be treated and shut down the way he did to me. I tried to even give him space to think about what I said, but he refused and said he won't think about it since it didn't matter. The next night he wanted to talk, but all he kept saying was he wanted to move together somewhere else. Blatantly ignore everything I said, only focusing on himself and his own problems. No communication, no teamwork. So, no me. The only problem is, I started a new job, having just left an AWFUL company/cult from before, and I won't be paid until May and can't pay April's rent myself. He tends to be vindictive (another concern I addressed), so I'm afraid of asking him to move out sooner, he'll leave me and my child high and dry and I won't be able to afford rent, and won't be able to catch up. I'm acting as normal as possible so as not to trigger that annoying vindictive part of him, but once rent and everything is taken care of, we're breaking up. Never been happier to have my name on the lease, at least I won't have to move AGAIN. I'm SO excited to be getting the bed back to myself. I think my son and I are going to jave a movie night with popcorn and ice creamā¤ļø I want to take a break from dating and just focus on me and my son for a while. Dinner tonight is sweet and sour chicken with eggplant and sesame seeds over rice with mixed veggies, white miso soup, and decaf earl grey tea with milk and honey šŸÆ EDIT: I did not expect so many comments!! First, thank you everyone for your supportā¤ļø Just to clarify a couple of things, I am currently in Japan, and rent can be at the beginning or end of the month. For me, it's at the end of the month. Also, my apartment I'm renting from is not company owned, but the owner of my company is very close friends with the owner, and they rented this out to me specifically. If he doesn't leave, it'll be difficult on him. Not only that, but one of my concerns I addressed with him was that he wants a sharehouse (think a community shared space, like college dorms or something) because he lives far from work. He chose to work far, and then agreed to live here (I asked if he didn't want to take the job opportunities local, he said no; i also asked if we should move half way between jobs to make this easier, he refused; i told him we weren't moving again and he wasn't going to move out because then why take this next step in our relationship? Do you agree, how do you feel? He said he was fine). Despite all this, he then was going back on his word. I think he will be fine with moving out and take this chance to go closer to work, like he wants. So I'm not worried about him moving out. His vindictive side was, so far, on little things. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't worried about bigger things, too. I have a bunch of friends and coworkers who are supportive and will be in the area to help. Also, because he is Japanese, there were a lot of concerns I checked with friends to be sure it wasn't a cultural misunderstanding, which then would change how I approached certain issues, but in the end I was valid, and then his response sealed the deal. For the one who DMed me and said I sound like a narcissist and should stick it out because Japanese people don't like single mom: he isn't the father of my child and my child is a Japanese citizen (dual citizenship) and as long as he is fine here then nothing else matters and I am happy to remain a narcissist in your eyes, if that's the casešŸ‘šŸ¼ And for those who claimed to be nosey and want an update: girls, ME FREAKING TOO, I promise when the time comes I won't leave you hanging, we'll have a tea party and ya girl will spill, no problem! LAST EDIT BEFORE UPDATE: Someone brought up a good point about using a credit card to pay the rent instead. I tried, but the system my landlord uses SPECIFICALLY will not accept my cardšŸ™ƒ we tried at the beginning of the contract, but it's rejected every time. I paid the full down payment (over $1,000) as well as half the rent the first month. My only stipulation was to have assistance when the time came, since he told me yo quit my job an extra month early (I had to because it was so much stress it kept putting me in the hospital) and my new job wouldn't start for another 3 months (which made EVERYONE mad because the employees there said they needed me sooner, but management said no). So all of my savings and credit has been going into rent, bills, and food. This man came home to home cooked meals every single night and a clean apartment. Now I just finally need the help until I get paid (Japan pays monthly), but again, because he is vindictive, I don't want him suddenly going back on his word, which now has shown to be a repeated pattern. I also won't respond directly to many (or any) negative comments, as I'm not trying to change minds and this was a "diary" post, so I'm not going to try to change any minds about anything or make myself seem a saint in anyway. You can think I am scum of the earth, and I respect that. If anyone has questions, I don't mind answering (so long as I can see them, this blew up WAY bigger than I expected lol). Salt. Damndest Thing.
background: I grew up in the 60s and 70s where were totally indoctrinated low sodium, low fat. In the 80s we learned to drink lots of water. Now at my latest checkup and blood test I find that I have something called Hyponatremia. Low Blood Sodium. According to my doctor this is a Bad Thing. Here's the punch line. To experiment I'm supposed to drink much less fluids and eat salty foods. I use salt in my cooking, but I think because I simply don't eat snacks or fast food or even go out much I still get quite a bit less salt than most. Now to the cooking part. The easiest thing to do is just put a small pinch of salt on pretty much everything. You don't want to salt bomb your body just increase the more or less constant level. Now I knew quite a few foods take this quite well. I always put a pinch on watermelon, radishes, tomatoes, cucumbers. Now I am trying it on all raw foods. Apples, cheese of all things, celery, oatmeal, whatever I'm eating. I'm considering breaking down and getting a bag of Doritos. If I'm cooking pretty much everything gets a shot of soy or worcestershire (can anyone spell that without spell check?) a little more salt than I used to. Chicken soup base like bouillon cubes are practically all salt. These are all things I used to use in measure and occasionally. HOLY SHIT! I've yet to find anything that does not improve. Ice cream, chocolate sauce. I'm also supposed to get more protein and get salt in that. So I up seasonings in burgers, fish, meat rubs. Now I realize my dietary requirements are different than most. My bp is under control, my kidneys are good and my cholesterol fine (for my age). My blood needs both Sodium and Chlorine. See you in a month when I get re-tested. I guess the moral is use salt reasonably and get a blood and bp test every so often. submitted by /u/Tasty_Impress3016 to r/Cooking [link] [comments]

Lohikeitto (Finnish Salmon Soup)
It's been chilly here so I've been craving soup. Made this salmon soup for the first time and really enjoyed it. Here's what I did, in case anyone wants it: 2 tablespoons butter 3 leeks, white and tender green portions sliced and well washed 2 carrots, peeled and diced 2 garlic cloves, minced 1 bay leaf 1/2 cup dry white wine 4 cups chicken stock (if using store bough stock, add a tablespoon or two of gelatin) 2 cups clam juice 1/2 teaspoon fish sauce, optional (adds umami and you won't taste it) 1 large celery root, peeled and diced small, 1/2 pound (I like to use celery root to keep it lower carb but potato is the traditional choice) 1 pound salmon, skin removed and cut into bite size pieces 1 cup heavy cream 1 bunch fresh dill, minced, or to taste juice and zest of 1 lemon, or to taste salt and pepper, to taste Cook leeks and carrots in butter till soft, about 10 min on medium heat. Add garlic and cook until fragrant, about 1 minute. Add bay and white wine. Cook till little to no liquid remains. Add stock, clam juice, and fish sauce and bing to a boil. Reduce heat to a simmer and add celery root. Cook at a simmer for 15 min, or until celery root is tender. Turn off heat and add salmon. Let stand covered for 15 min to gently cook through in the residual heat. Stir in cream, lemon, and dill. Add salt and pepper to taste and serve. submitted by /u/joross31 to r/soup [link] [comments]

… As I opened the can of Cream of Chicken soup, crushed the Ritz crackers, and stirred together four types of white dairy products, I could have sworn I heard the songs of my ancestors, sung passive-aggressively from Methodist church basements across the Northern Midwest.
On our way home, I asked my husband to look up recipes for the leftover rotisserie chicken in the fridge, since we had to stop by the store anyway, and could pick up any ingredients we didn’t have on hand. He chose this. submitted by /u/thekermiteer to r/shittyfoodporn [link] [comments]

A year of work mapping U.S. regional food traditions [OC]
After a year of research, debate, and help from many of you in your home regions, I’ve finished a national map of 78 U.S. food regions. Each area is based on distinct culinary traditions shaped by geography, culture, and history, from Gullah and Tex-Mex to Monroe BBQ and Crucian cuisine. I’d love your feedback: Did I miss something obvious? Should a region be renamed, removed, or split further? A version of this map’s headed to print next year as part of a national cultural atlas, so this is the last round of tuning before it gets locked in. Methodology note: This map is interpretive rather than purely statistical. Regions were defined using a mix of historical settlement patterns, agricultural zones, immigration history, regional dishes, and feedback from locals across multiple revisions. This is the 5th major revision, and I’m posting here specifically to invite critique before it goes to print as part of a larger cultural atlas. Edit- just tried to reupload this in higher resolution. I went as high res as Reddit would let me. Sorry if it's still blurry or unreadable. DM me or look at links in my profile and I'll point you to a higher-res version submitted by /u/piri_reis_ to r/dataisbeautiful [link] [comments]

Substitute for Campbell’s cream of X soups?
I grew up on Campbell’s soups but they don’t taste the same and I just don’t like them. However, I’m making no-peek chicken today and the recipe calls for a can of cream of mushroom and a can of cream of chicken. Looking for advice on how to get that homey, chicken-and-rice Midwestern-comfort-food flavor without the can? submitted by /u/Western_Taiwan to r/Cooking [link] [comments]

Save my soup! Used eggnog instead of cream.
So embarrassing but, I was making some creamy chicken-rice soup and grabbed the eggnog container and started pouring before realizing my mistake. I won't say it's horrible but it's not great with the weird sweetness. Other than diluting and making even more soup (have a full slow cooker worth), is there any ideas out there on how to flavor out the eggnog? LOL, oops. Edit: Curry powder has worked wonders all by itself, thanks for all the suggestions. submitted by /u/ripgressor1974 to r/Cooking [link] [comments]

This creamy chicken mushroom soup has no cream, no flour, and still tastes like comfort in a bowl
I started out just trying to use what I had in the fridge, and it turned into one of the best soups I’ve ever made. It’s thick, cozy, and feels rich, yet it’s packed with vegetables and doesn’t use any cream or flour. The base is roasted cauliflower that I blended into a purĆ©e. I caramelized three cartons of mushrooms in butter and a little beef tallow with a pinch of red pepper flakes for extra flavor. The soup has chicken, potatoes, onions, celery, carrots, sun-dried tomatoes, kale, and thyme simmered in a Better Than Bouillon broth. I finished it with a squeeze of lemon juice for brightness. Creamy Chicken Mushroom Soup (No Cream or Flour) Ingredients 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts 3 cartons mushrooms (about 24 oz), sliced 2 bags pre-chopped cauliflower (about 32 oz total) 5 small potatoes, diced 2 cups chopped onions 5 celery stalks, diced 3 carrots, chopped 1 cup sun-dried tomatoes, chopped 2 handfuls kale, chopped 2 tbsp butter 2–3 tbsp beef tallow 5–6 cups water 6 tsp Better Than Bouillon (chicken) ½ tsp dried thyme ½–1 tsp red pepper flakes Juice of ½ lemon Salt and pepper to taste Instructions Roast the cauliflower: Toss with olive oil, salt, and pepper. Roast at 425°F for 25–30 minutes until tender and golden. Blend with 1 cup broth or water into a smooth purĆ©e. YSK: ALDI is Offering a Full Thanksgiving Meal feeding up to 10 people for $40.
Why YSK: As we all know grocery prices are at an all time high, this deal is a fantastic offer feeding up to 10 people with a delicious Thanksgiving feast for only $40. Also last year it was $50, instead of going up like everything else it’s $10 cheaper this year. Items include: Whole Turkey Chicken Broth Condensed Cream of Mushroom Soup Evaporated Milk Hawaiian Sweet Rolls Miniature Marshmallows Cut Green Beans (x2) 100% Pure Canned Pumpkin Shells & Cheese (x2) Brown Gravy Mix (x3) Poultry Spices & Herbs French Fried Onions Pie Crust Chicken or Cornbread Stuffing (x2) Whipped Dairy Topping Yellow Onions (3 lbs.) Baby Peeled Carrots Celery Cranberries Sweet Potatoes (3 lbs.) Russet Potatoes (10 lbs.) This shopping list allows you to serve a "14-pound turkey, rolls, cranberry sauce, mac and cheese, stuffing, mashed potatoes with gravy, sweet potato casserole, green bean casserole, and pumpkin pie." If you're strictly sticking to only buying the items from Aldi's list, then you won't be able to customize recipes to your liking. But obviously, if you do have a little wiggle room in your budget, then you could make some things from scratch rather than buying the mixes or canned/pre-made stuff. And keep in mind that Aldi's list assumes you already have some pantry staples on hand. For example, both their chicken stuffing mix and their cornbread stuffing mix require 1/2 stick of butter each, but that's not included. Or if you're following Campbell's Green Bean Casserole recipe, you'll need milk and soy sauce. But still, it's pretty crazy how Aldi is extremely affordable for Thanksgiving. Solve an argument over Campbell's Cream of Chicken soup
Does anyone ever eat Cambell's Cream of Chicken as a soup vs to cook with? I got in an interesting argument with my husband tonight over this. Wondering if I am the only one who wouldn't eat this as a soup. submitted by /u/birdscNfly to r/Cooking [link] [comments]
