Cricut newbie baffled by how to approach drawing + cutting project
Hi all!! I am trying to DIY some petalfold envelopes for my save the dates that have drawings and lettering on the inside, and I’m not sure how to approach it. First, I would like to use the cricut to cut out the envelopes themselves - pretty simple. However, I would also like to use the cricut to draw on those envelopes, like the photo example given (the scribbles on the flaps are supposed to be leaves, please excuse my drawing skills this is NOT the final mockup). Basically, I am hoping to use the pens to draw some leaf patterns on the flaps, and draw some lettering and a QR code on the inside of the envelope. I’m using a template I bought on Etsy to cut the envelopes themselves- and I’m wondering if I can add drawings to the cut template or if that would make it cut the drawing lines (if that makes sense), or if I cut the envelopes and then use a new template to have the cricut draw on the cut envelopes. Or, would it be better for it to draw first, then cut the envelope shapes? Do I do it all in one template, or separate ones? I’m very new to all of this and don’t want to mess up mycardstock with my incompetence. Thanks so much!! submitted by /u/Reasonable-Youth-611 to r/cricut [link] [comments]

Quick heads up for anyone sharing or selling Cricut projects (re: brand wording)
Hi r/cricut :) Just sharing something I didn’t fully realize when I first started out. Most of us know not to copy logos or protected characters; that part’s obvious. What surprised me was how often issues can come from the description, not the design. Even if your artwork is completely original, wording like: Disney style Starbucks inspired Taylor Swift themed NFL font Hello Kitty colors Dupe of ___ Or even phrases like: Perfect for a Disney trip Looks like the Starbucks logo Can already cause problems because you’re tying your product to a brand name. It’s not always about copying. Sometimes it’s just the association created by the wording 🤔 Lately, I’ve been describing the aesthetic instead (like the color palette, vibe, era, themes) without referencing specific brands. Honestly, it makes the listing feel more original anyway. Just figured it was worth mentioning since there’s so much creative work in here that could accidentally run into trouble over phrasing alone. Hope this helps :) submitted by /u/pizzalasagna19 to r/cricut [link] [comments]

Some projects would be much easier with a bigger cricut
I made welcome mats for my sisters for Christmas. The centering is off and there are a few things I wish I had made cleaner but overall I’m happy with them because of how much work it was. I use a cricut joy so to make bigger projects like this I can’t just make one cut. I made multiple cuts and stuck them all together to make one big stencil. Does anyone else do this with their joy? If you’re gonna make these mats the biggest advice I have for you is to use the right transfer paper. Low tack is so important. I used regular cricut transfer tape for the first few attempts and it was almost impossible. submitted by /u/No_Technician2176 to r/cricut [link] [comments]

First Cricut project… so I made my own wedding invitations 😅
This was my first ever Cricut project and I clearly chose chaos...😅 I decided to make our wedding invitations from scratch, which turned into months of planning, testing paper, ruining paper, learning foiling, learning embossing, and figuring out what actually works. Then came the many, many hours of assembling everything by hand. The design is inspired by the history of our wedding venue, old maps, travel documents, guidebooks, and the idea of a journey, and I wanted the invites to feel more like keepsakes than something you open once and toss. What I used the Cricut for: • Embossing the envelopes • Writing names/addresses • Heat foiling + cutting all of the cards • Cutting and scoring the passport-style booklets • Building the trifold map structure and inserts It took way longer than expected and definitely tested my patience, but I’m so happy with how it turned out! submitted by /u/rox_ie to r/cricut [link] [comments]

F'k Cricut and their scummy scammy b.s.
I wish I'd known that using this piece of crap without a subscription would cost me for - well I don't even know, I guess fonts? What a scumbag f'king company. I'm over this shit. Fuck cricut.. spend hours on a project and it wants 5 bucks so I can print it on the machine I spent $400 for... Thanks for attending my ted talk. Edit: So I put an emotional rant on reddit and didn't check back. Holy cow, that's a lot of replies in 3 days, this is quite the active sub. I agree with everyone saying there are workarounds and I can create the stuff in inkscape, I've done that before printing decals for different things. My rant came when I had just spent over an our putting together a simple project, just text and simple shapes (not the premium ones) and when I went to cut it it wanted $6.99 and wasn't clear at all about what elements it was even charging me for. I did spend like $400 on this thing for the fiance tho, and it wasn't clear beforehand how much was behind a paywall. Yes, my fault for not doing enough research, but who would expect something like that to lock so many features (like background removal and such? I mean c'mon). And don't get me started on the "everything bundle" including way way less than "everything." So yeah, I won't ever recommend Cricut to anyone just because of their business practices. submitted by /u/IliketheYankees to r/cricut [link] [comments]

Designed a little weeding tool cleaner to make Cricut projects less frustrating
Just finished designing a little helper for my Cricut projects and thought some of you might appreciate it. It’s a threaded cleaner container for weeding tools — basically, you poke or twist your tool into the lid and the tapered grooves strip off all those stubborn vinyl bits. I was constantly getting annoyed with scraps stuck to the tip, and after not finding a solution that worked, I ended up making one myself. A couple details: • The lid has chunky threading so it twist-locks securely (and prints easily without supports). • It doubles as a mini bin for scraps. • Heart-shaped body, so it’s a little cute in addition to being functional. • Designed with Cricut in mind, but it should work with other tools too. It’s been super handy for me while working on more detailed designs, and it keeps my desk a lot cleaner. Just wanted to share in case it inspires anyone else who’s into 3D printing + crafting. https://makerworld.com/models/1749390 submitted by /u/mybluecash to r/3Dprinting [link] [comments]

Some of my newest completed projects! I just got a siser machine and so far it’s so much better than my cricut
My one major gripe with the Siser is that I can’t use my iPad for their design space, so I have to take out my old MacBook which is so slow. I may have to invest in a new one 😬 oh, and one other issue is alignment. It doesn’t auto align a mat like the circuit does, so you have to be so so careful to line it up properly yourself, if it might cut off the HTV submitted by /u/emmygrl23 to r/bookbinding [link] [comments]

Favorite non-cheugy Cricut projects
Looking to hear about your favorite projects and inspo that don't look like they fell off of a Homegoods truck. No sassy wine o'clock t-shirts, no live-laugh-love vinyl labels, no shadowboxes. (No offense.) What's popping out there in the creative world? I'll start: I saw that some people use their Cricut to design and cut vinyl wraps for some of the dust- and fingerprint-prone surfaces inside their cars. Never thought to use the Cricut that way. submitted by /u/ddpizza to r/cricut [link] [comments]

AITA for getting my girlfriend a Cricut instead of a sewing machine?
Hi, I'm M26 and my girlfriend, Sarah is F27.Yesterday was Sarah's birthday. A couple weeks ago, she requested a sewing machine for her birthday gift. Even though she already had one (that was not broken), I agreed to get it for her. Since I'm a guy who knows nothing about sewing, I spent a a good 2 weeks of searching for a good model. In the end, I picked a Brother sewing machine along with some extra materials. Just when I was about to order it, I came across the Cricut Maker 3. For those who don't know, Cricut is something that can cut all kinds of things (e.g. fabric, wood, paper, leather). It can even engrave metal! It is used to make DIY projects like stickers, bags, mugs and necklaces. Since Sarah is very into crafting, I immediately thought she'd love it. In my opinion, it was way better than the sewing machine (since she already had one). Sure, the Cricut was double the price of the sewing machine (nearly $1000) but I had some money saved. After some research, I bought the Cricut with a Heat Press and other tools. I thought it would be an amazing birthday gift. I was about to tell Sarah that I didn't get the sewing machine - but knowing her, she would beg me to tell her what her new gift was. I wanted it a surprise so I decided to keep it a secret. Fast forward to her birthday. Sarah was super excited. I gave her the present, saying that I didn't get the sewing machine but I got something even cooler. As I said those words, I could sense her disappointment but she was trying to hide it. I suddenly felt really bad but I hoped that she would like the Cricut. When she unwrapped the present, she looked even more disappointed. She said "Thanks... I don't see why you couldn't get a sewing machine though. It isn't hard to get one." I was kinda put off by her 'unappreciation', but I apologised anyway. Sarah continued - "When you tell me what you want for your birthday, I get it for you. I didn't get you books when you said you wanted a kettle." I tried to explain what a Cricut could do, but she didn't really listen. She just pulled out her phone and Googled the price. When she found out I spent $1000+ on the present, she freaked out. She said that I could've gotten her four sewing machines for that price, or that I could've simply taken her on holiday. This hurt me, because I did put in a lot of effort in my gift. It's embarrassing, but I suddenly was on the verge of tears. I don't cry much, but I felt emotional at that moment. When Sarah saw that, she said - "Why are you crying? I do appreciate your present but it's just you totally disregarded what I wanted." She left to give me some space, but we still had birthday dinner together. It was rather awkward but we pulled through. Fast forward to today. Sarah still hasn't touched her Cricut. It's almost like she's trying to make a point that I really wasted my money on something she wouldn't use. I do feel a bit like an asshole because I did ignore what she wanted. But at the same time I feel I had good intentions...? AITA? Update: Hi again. After reading all your comments, I realise that I was indeed an asshole. But believe me when I say that 1) I wasn't trying to guilt-trip her by crying and 2) I didn't get the Cricut so she could make me things. However, I'll admit that I thought that the Cricut was cooler and bought it partly because of that. I was wrong because ultimately it's her gift not mine. Thanks for all the responses. Since I already knew what model and materials to get, I just placed an order for the Brother sewing machine. It can only be delivered in a week's time, so I'm going to get some of her favourite food today to make up for it. I haven't returned the Cricut because all those add-ons would be tricky to return. I'm still deciding if I should keep it or not. Lastly, if you're wondering why I bought the Cricut: This was 2 years ago, but Sarah saw a machine similar to a Cricut in an art store and said that when she had more money, she would get it. Also, throughout the years, she has been interested in cutting wood and fabrics. But yes, I should've asked her first before splurging on this gift. Thanks again. Edit 2: I see a lot of people wondering how I spent $1000 on the Cricut haha - I'm not in the US! submitted by /u/throwraaitacricut to r/AmItheAsshole [link] [comments]

Anyone else use the Cricut solely for personal projects and zero interest in selling?
I got a Cricut when I splurged just before my first child was born back in 2015. I just thought it was a cool relatively inexpensive machine. I make all the decorations for birthday parties, cards, decorate nearly everything with vinyl, and have made custom gifts non-stop. When someone wants something specific made, I invite them over to use the machine and help them make it. I have never even thought to charge anyone. Every person that knows I have a Cricut or who also has one asks me why I don't sell any of my stuff. People have offered, I trust I make quality things but I just don't want to. I haven't met anyone else with a Cricut that hasn't tried to sell their things...am I really that much of an oddball??? submitted by /u/stilltryingeveryday to r/cricut [link] [comments]
