How do people manage to make career switches in Germany? I keep getting rejected for “not matching” despite relevant experience
I really wonder how people manage to make a full career change, when even moving within the same broad field but different niche doesn’t seem to work? Basically, I am an industrial Engineer and studied Logistics and have a Masters in Digitalization and Industry 4.0. Our studies are really mixed between all the overlapping subjects involved in the optimisation and change management of industry. I currently work as a material flow Simulation Consultant, we create digital twins for companies (mostly intra logistics) to help them improving their processes and making strategic decisions. I also worked before as "lean and Industry 4.0 Consultant". These are experiences I had in Germany. But I studied in my home country. In total I have a little over 3 years of experience (internships and so excluded) I would like to shift my career to "pure Supply Chain", managing trucks and logistics and procurement and routing and these things. The field overlaps heavily with what I already do but there are also differences and things to learn. Every time I apply for a job in Supply Chain Optimization I get rejected from the beginning because "my profile doesn't align fully with the job". But in reality, I have all the requirements they asked for, only learned them in a slightly different context. I wonder how people manage to fully change careers and find jobs in the new ones? how could I explain in my application, that I know I don't have exact experience in this, I just really feel passionate about it? German is almost at B2, I just can't write on my CV it because I didn't sit for the B2 exam but I got the B1 with perfect mark and speak pretty fluently, with some mistakes. TLDR at the bottom. ⬇️ Gave TCS NQT on 21th march completely unprepared in Ahmedabad. On campus Gujarat University. Fortunately First coding question is very easy all test cases passed and none on the second. Got called for interview for Digital role on 2nd April in TCS Gandhinagar Garima Park 9:15 morning. Preparation: Prepared literally every concepts in Computer Science not in depth but shallow knowledge. Revised SQL queries , DSA (in C) as I didn't do it in a long time. (I am from biology background currently doing bioinformatics dissertation) Prepared my resume project which was also my dissertation and it was a unique tool using Streamlit, APIs, Docker etc. Worked on my speech as I am not a habitual English speaker and wanted to be really articulate and explain my project clearly as it also had biology in it. Prepared speeches for my introduction and project overview. Practiced once by recording myself and most of by talking with chatgpt and gemini voice chat. Helped a little with my stuttering after a few days of practice. Very anxious by now as this was the only shot for me to get into IT and also a decent fresher salary where in bioinformatics we get around 2.5 to 3.5 LPA only. prepared even during eating food , couldn't sleep and importantly didn't tell anyone because i had no idea what chances did i Have. Interview Day: Reached before 40 mins waited in the recruitment bay and then our documents were verified and our temp ID card was made then we were guided into the building to the interview locations. we sat in a orientation hall in between meant for new joinees by mistake , that was funny. I was lucky to be the first batch to be interview was taken in front of the discussion room where Three panelist were sitting Technical Guy, Manager and HR. After I let three others go in first as they came from far away unlike me. My heart was pounding at this point then i was called each interview before me was 20 min and they said it was very easy still i was very nervous this was my first ever interview. I went in. Interview experience: As I entered i greeted them and they were smiling and suddenly my Fear and anxiety vanished whooosh just like that. i sat down asked how was and i and for some fucking reason asked HR the same question lol. Somehow god gave me infinite confidence i didnt stutter a single time i was so surprised. No intro no project overview HR asked me to tell her about myself something which is not mentioned in the resume. I smiled and Gave some cringe answers then was asked about the switch from Biology to IT. I answered well. TR sees my resume and asks what is TRIES. I knew so answered and he was genuinely awestruck then pseudo code for tree traversal(They were mumbling that AI will take our jobs stay in biology only, But I aint getting this much salary anywhere lol). then some more resume project related questions about API. SQL vs NOSQL (Didn't know about kassandra in detail so I clarified the same) Then manager asks about my family background. I forgot to mention my sibling and they caught it and we laughed. By this time The TR guy snatched my resume again from under my hands and was making okay signs so i knew i was selected mostly. HR and MR asked about shift and relocation flexibilty and i Complied saying yes left and right lol. They told me i'll have to learn new tech mostly because i was selected anyways. Thanked them and left with such a high like i was on drugs because of the adrenaline. Through sheer fucking luck and 5 Nights of no Freddy, my interview went well and also the panelist were amazing. Got doc verification on 6th and Offer Letter on 9th was constantly checking mail these days and simultaneously writing my Thesis. accepted it and told my parents but that was a mistake word spread like wild fire. I wasn't happy maybe due to my depression but parents are so worth it for them. Started Background check and will continue on monday to take referal contact from my college. Took passport appointment and also registered on National skill registry. Waiting for my degree completion and eventually joining letter. Anyone saying company is bad and all I kinda don't care beggers cant be choosers. Be delusional Guys and All the Best. TLDR: Got placed on campus for TCS Digital role(Ahmedabad GU) with no internship or work experience from Biology Background. Test on 21th march Interview on 2nd april and Offer letter on 9th. Resume based questions and got lucky with early morning and great panelist. Currently doing the further procedure like BGC and also to open to any questions , I mean to help any anxious brother or sister out so open for questions. When it felt like you HAD to have some digital competence to keep up or your job could be at risk. That the previous generations of professionals you saw early career who could throw their hands up at having to do something mildly technical wouldn't be a valid excuse anymore. Some examples: First being introduced to use collaborative task management software like JIRA, Smartsheet and Monday.com. Being able to use Excel to do basic data joins, calculations and formulas as a matter of course. Expected to do rudimentary data analysis and visualization. Mastery of clerical tasks using tools like mail merge, mass sends etc. Using cloud based document management software instead of paper or desktop ad-hoc file management. Warning: My experience ordering from 64 Audio — charged my card, no tracking, refused to ship unless I read a “5‑digit code” from my bank charge
Posting this as a consumer warning and to ask the community for recommendations. I placed an order on 64 Audio’s website with a stated delivery timeframe of “within 2 business days.” It was meant for a birthday gift...well it didn't make it. My credit card was charged the next day — and then the problems started. By the following Monday: No package, No shipping confirmation, No tracking number, No fulfillment status. So I called 64 Audio support for a basic update (carrier, tracking, ship date). Instead of providing tracking or confirming shipment, they demanded I read a “five‑digit code” from the bank/account charge over the phone to prove the order wasn’t fraudulent. I refused, because I don’t share banking codes or bank-statement identifiers verbally or via email with anyone. I escalated multiple times (manager → manager). Same response: they refused to ship anything unless I complied with their demand to read that bank “code.” Even though they have already had charged me 4 days ago. This does not feel like legitimate fraud prevention. It feels like payment is taken first, then the product is withheld, and the customer is pressured to disclose sensitive banking information with no alternative path to verification. What makes it worse: I reviewed 64 Audio’s publicly available policies and could not find a clearly disclosed, step-by-step “order verification” policy explaining that customers must provide a bank statement transaction code to receive an order. Their Terms & Conditions say they may contact customers and can cancel/refuse orders, but there’s no clear disclosure about this “bank code” requirement as a condition of shipping. Their Privacy Policy mentions using personal information to identify theft/fraud, but does not spell out a process requiring customers to read bank statement codes over the phone. Also, consumer guidance is very clear that customers should never share verification codes. The FTC has repeatedly warned that anyone asking you to share verification codes is a major red flag. This whole interaction followed the same pattern: “prove it’s you by reading a code.” That’s not an acceptable customer experience for a company selling high-end audio gear. At this point I have requested a charge back even though we have repeatedly said "you already have our money, we would like the product we paid for" For a company that invests in high-end tech gear yet lacks understanding of the simple basics of customer service, it’s a shame. If they didn’t have my money yet and wanted to make sure I’m a real person — that’s one thing. But you already charged me, the money went through, and you’re still refusing to ship the product? Invest in knowing how to do business instead of your own ego. After accounting for my actual hours, software costs, taxes, and the fact that I hadn't given myself a raise in 3 years, I was effectively making about $14/hour. For work that requires real expertise. So I sent emails to all 22 clients explaining that rates were going up 40% starting January. I gave them 3 months notice. I was terrified. Here's what happened: - 7 clients left immediately (most were the ones who haggled on everything and sent the most revision requests) - 2 clients negotiated a smaller increase which I agreed to - 13 clients said some version of "honestly I'm surprised you weren't charging more" The result? I went from 22 clients at low rates to 15 clients at higher rates. My monthly revenue actually went UP by about 12%. But here's the real kicker - my workload dropped by roughly 35% because the clients who left were the most demanding and least profitable ones. I'm now working fewer hours, making more money, and actually enjoy my work again because I'm not resentful about being underpaid. The part nobody tells you: the clients who complain about price are almost never the ones who value what you do. The ones who value your work will pay more because they understand what they're getting. 3 things I wish I knew before: Your first clients are not your forever clients. The people who hired you when you were cheap and unproven aren't necessarily the ones who should be with you as you grow. Undercharging doesn't just hurt your bank account - it attracts the wrong type of client. The bargain hunters are usually the hardest to work with. Give plenty of notice and be transparent about why. Building a Cinema in an Abandoned Youchien
About two years ago I found an abandoned youchien near my place. It was up this amazing private drive surrounded by Sakura trees and a bamboo grove up top. I had the crazy idea to turn it into a cinema. After two years I finally finished renovating it this last weekend! It took about a year of working with the city & local residents to get permission to get the keys then another year of renovation work. The inside was completely rotted an I had to go in and rip everything out front the ceilings to the floors. Then built it all up again. It’s now a proper cinema with 43 seats, digital cinema projection and soon to be restored 35mm projection as well. All out in the mountains of Yamanashi off the chuo line. I’m far from fluent in Japanese and don’t have a Japanese partner to support me. It’s been a learning experience to say at the least from working with city hall, becoming a fire prevention manager and getting the health management certification. I hope posting experiences like this are okay. My experience with Deepcool CH270 Digital WH
Finally got this interesting case today and managed to complete the build! The black PSU is an eyesore and I am probably gonna wrap it with some white vinyl soon. Since reviews on this case are scarce I hope some things I share here would be helpful. Full specs: Ryzen 5 9600x, Sapphire pure 7800xt, G.Skil Ripjaws M5 32GB, B850M Aorus Ice Elite Mobo, Deepcool Assasin IV WH, Seasonic Focus SGX-650, Lian Li SL-INF x6, Arctic P12 x1. 1) For the 2 person out there wondering if an SFX PSU the answer is yes, the psu mount has multiple screw holes designed for normal ATX PSUs and SFX PSUs. 2) For those wondering if the case is too small to fit custom sleeved cables, just look the second last picture. Thanks to the space behind the Mobo it is possible to include custom cables without having to squeeze or struggle with cable management too much. 3) If you have doubts about cables not being able to bend enough to plug into the IO below the case, I believe it should be perfectly fine so long the unbendable part of your cable does not exceed 5 - 5.5cm. Refer to the last picture for more info. 4) Cooling performance is great at least for my standard. I live in South East Asia and it is the weather is insanely hot ranging from 26 to 32 degrees (I have no device to measure my actual ambient temps). With no AC running, the highest my cpu reached was 87 degrees when running Cinebench without OC or undervolting. (note the 9000 series CPUs likes to run really hot) With no AC running, the highest my undervolted GPU reached while running MSI Kombustor was 59 degrees. Don't take my words for the cooling performance though, I do not have confidence in my own testing as I am just some random dude messing around with my PC and I this is only my first day with the case. I just hope the results can provide a general idea for you guys. 5) You cannot mount case fans under the GPU since there are no mounting holes. I believe there is no need for the additional fans though since the side panel is perforated enough for the GPU to cool itself. 6) Removing the side panels is not a tooless process WHY? this case is so close to being so perfect for me. I guess now I will have to unscrew like 8 screws to access all the filters for cleaning. 7) Building process is not too bad I guess? there isn't really much trouble throughout the building process. What I can say is maybe take note about the PSU orientation else the extension cable leading to the PSU will not fit properly. Mount the PSU first before mounting the top fans so you will not have to deal with fans interfering with PSU installation Thats all I have to share with you guys! HEB Digital: Software Engineer worst experience of my career
Working at HEB Digital has been the worst experience of my career. I initially thought I was cursed with a terrible team in integrations but truthfully a lot of people in my org sip the same koolaid of politics and cliques. My day to day included not coding at all. Sorry manager, editing XMLs and drag and drop TIBCO studio is not coding. Just because we use version control which has the word "code review" in it does not make it code. Pushing for standards/better practices was always met with resistance. They don't want you to be/introduce different, they want you to do/be the same. Focus was always on speed, not quality. I had a micromanager who turned 5-minute meetings into 40-minute ordeals by obsessing over every detail. Negligence was rampant. I flagged a serious privacy issue with a teammate’s changes and explicitly said not to publish them before I left on vacation. I came back to find customer payment data logged in plain text! I also had red flags during the interview when my director outright made fun of my ethnic name comparing it to an expletive without reading the room first… I awkwardly chuckled it off but not cool or appropriate. I put that all aside since the job market was rough but soon realized this role really wasn’t for me. I applied and got accepted to a lateral dev team but it was blocked as it was “too early” despite the misalignment of the role. I planned to transfer at 6 months which was what I was told was the minimum time. A month before the transfer, I was asked if I still planned to move teams. I said yes and was let go the next day for "not wanting to be on the team" though when I asked HR for what other reasons they say they can't discuss with me the details lol. It was obvious retaliation for mentioning wanting to leave and not kissing my manager's feet. I was surprised since the week before, I saved my team a ton of manual hours by automating the remediation of leaked secrets in our codebase (over 4000 repositories) while he sat there joking about having to do nothing. What a terrible manager but it was my fault for showing my hand too early. For a company that prides itself on taking care of people, the digital space in my org doesn’t even pretend to show it. HEB delights itself on being a private company but it's worse than a public company on the tech side. The kind of practices, behaviors, and conduct at HEB digital would not be tolerated at a public company. How I Made $9,607 in 2024 (since september) and Over $5,000 in 2025 (So Far) Selling Digital Products – My Experience & Lessons Learned
If you think I started selling digital products in September and immediately started making money, you’re wrong. I actually started this whole thing back in June, just thinking about starting, looking into different products, and trying to decide on a niche. Like many people, I was hooked by all the Instagram ads of people making $10k/month, selling the dream. And like any rational human being, I thought, "If they can do it, I can too." So, I did what any newbie would do. I created an Instagram account, dove into YouTube and Google, and started learning everything I could for free. My plan was to use all the free resources, create a digital product in my niche, and make bank. Sound simple but I was in for a rude awakening. The first month, I posted 3 times a day, batched content like crazy, and waited for the magic to happen. Nothing. The second month, nothing and the third month, you guessed it still nothing. At this point, I was frustrated. I had followed everything I learned online, and yet nothing Things I wish I knew earlier were free resources are great, but at the end of the day, you will have to invest in quality knowledge from people who have actually done it successfully. That’s what I did. But there’s a lot of garbage out there. I had to sift through scammy pdfs promising overnight success, overpriced courses filled with vague advice, and so called mentors who were just regurgitating basic information. I needed actual strategies, not shallow stuff. So, I focused on learning real, actionable skillslike Marketing and how to actually sell online because just posting content isn’t enough Content creation that attracts and converts not just for views Identifying market gaps and profitable niches Social media strategy what platforms to use and how to use them effectively Monetization because followers don’t pay bills sales do Sales funnels and how to automate them Branding that builds trust and authority without spending thousands on ads Taxes because nobody tells you this stuff when you start Once I had that knowledge, everything changed. Three months in, I made my first sale. And since then, I’ve made $9,607 in 2024 and over $5,000 so far in 2025 all from digital products. I decided to focus on entrepreneurship and business as my niche because I realized a lot of people are in the same position I was in,lost, overwhelmed, and tired of generic advice. But, this isn’t the only profitable niche. Some of the best ones include Finance & Investing (helping people manage money, budgeting, or investing) Health & Wellness (meal plans, fitness guides, mental health resources) Productivity & Self Improvement (planners, time management guides, habit trackers) Tech & AI Tools (digital tools, automation guides, AI prompts) Creative & Design (templates, digital art, branding kits) if you’re thinking of starting: Learn first, sell later. I wasted months because I thought content alone would make sales. It won’t. Learn the business side of things. Pick a niche based on demand, not just passion. Passion is great, but if no one’s willing to pay for it, it’s a hobby, not a business. Don’t expect overnight success. I know it’s tempting to believe those $10k in 30 days” posts, but this takes time. Stay consistent and resilient. Invest in good learning resources. Project Manager wants us to implement a Primesign server, but no one on the team has Linux experience.
Digitization Project Manager needs us to set up Primesign. We're a full Windows shop. I'm wondering how I go about doing (or declining to do) this. We're a small 4 person jack of all trades team where no one has enough experience with Linux to run a Production server. Now don't get me wrong, I'm totally fine with learning and improving on my basic Linux knowledge. Hell, I LIKE Linux. My problem with this is Security and Administration. This is an internet facing electronic-signature server for government services, which by default HAS to be very secure. My knowledge isn't enough to properly Secure and manage this system. Obviously I can set it up and get it to run, but it won't be secure and there is no system in place to keep it properly updated. I don't think it's a good idea to just set it up and connect it to the internet while saying "I'll learn by doing". If anything, someone has to take a Linux course/cert, and even that obviously won't replace many years of experience. What do you guys think? Try to Stay Away From Roles Called "Digital Marketing Manager/Executive/Senior..."
As someone who's been in PPC, SEO and more, I can tell you that I don't know many individuals who are genuinely good in all things Digital Marketing. I remember a few years ago when I was looking for a job, I'd constantly interview with companies looking for a Digital Marketing Manager. Upon interviewing with them, many said they were looking for someone good at SEO, Google Ads, Facebook Ads, CRO, Email Marketing, JavaScript, CSS, and even Social Media. I was always confused about whether they were simply naive or plain unrealistic. These are individual areas that take time and experience to become great at. Yes, you can become good at more than one of these, but I find it insane to think that a Digital Marketing Executive is even a thing. It's as insane as wanting a striker who is good as a centre back, left-back, goalkeeper and even coach simultaneously. Most companies advertising these roles have heard about Digital Marketing and don't know what it entails. So, be ready for what's to come your way if you choose to go ahead with it. I finally had my “I’m old” moment came yesterday with a Gen Zer.
Yesterday I (30F) was having a 1:1 with one of the people I manage (24M) He got his boyfriend for valentines day a Walkman and he’s going to burn him CDs because they just love the ✨ Y2K ✨ era and aesthetic. He will also get him digital camera for the ✨ aesthetic ✨ He shows me the Walkman and he’s so confused because it didn’t come with a charger. I’m like…. They’re battery powered. He was like what??? I didn’t see where to put the batteries??? He opened it and saw where the batteries go. He thought headphone jack is where the charger goes. It’s official. I’m washed. Edit to add: I don’t actually think I’m old. I know 30 isn’t old. It was just my first moment where I understood what older generations felt when younger generations find things from their childhood as “ancient” Yes we’re only 6 years a part. But growing up in the 2000s and 2010s those 6 years give you vastly different experiences as technology was rapidly changing when we were kids/teens. I got my first Walkman at 9, he was 3. Then my first iPod at 13, he was 7. To address the Walkman vs discman debate in the comments. By the time i had a “walkman” (discman whatever) it was called a Walkman. I had no idea there was a difference between the two and never heard the term discman until today. I’m a younger millennial- back to my first edit! Changed YTK to Y2K. That was a typo! Paperless voting machines are just waiting to be hacked in 2020. We are a POLITICO cybersecurity reporter and a voting security expert – ask us anything.
Intelligence officials have repeatedly warned that Russian hackers will return to plague the 2020 presidential election, but the decentralized and underfunded U.S. election system has proven difficult to secure. While disinformation and breaches of political campaigns have deservedly received widespread attention, another important aspect is the security of voting machines themselves. Hundreds of counties still use paperless voting machines, which cybersecurity experts say are extremely dangerous because they offer no reliable way to audit their results. Experts have urged these jurisdictions to upgrade to paper-based systems, and lawmakers in Washington and many state capitals are considering requiring the use of paper. But in many states, the responsibility for replacing insecure machines rests with county election officials, most of whom have lots of competing responsibilities, little money, and even less cyber expertise. To understand how this voting machine upgrade process is playing out nationwide, Politico surveyed the roughly 600 jurisdictions — including state and county governments — that still use paperless machines, asking them whether they planned to upgrade and what steps they had taken. The findings are stark: More than 150 counties have already said that they plan to keep their existing paperless machines or buy new ones.
