He's not going to eat these porkchops. 😐
About a month ago I made a post here because my boyfriend didn't want to eat the porkchops I cooked for dinner. Well tonight I made porkchops again and he's not going to eat these either because we broke up and he moved out. I'm so much better off and I just wanted to thank you all for the kind words and advice, it was very eye opening to me. I wish that I could invite you all to dinner 🥰 ETA : Couple of notes: 1- The yellow stuff is smashed potatoes with cheese on top. 2- I swear that butter on the broccoli melted right after that picture LOL ETA part two: Some people have asked for recipes. I'm not a fancy cook and it isn't anything very special or original but here goes: For the porkchops, I take them out of the fridge 30 mins before I cook them so that they are room temperature. I salt them when I take them out too. Then I mix some flour with seasonings. This time I used salt, pepper, onion powder, garlic powder, and chili powder. I dredged the porkchops in the seasoned flour before frying them in a little oil over medium high heat. I do two or three minutes a side to get nice color then I drop the heat to low, put a lid on it and cook until my meat thermometer says they are 145 F inside. I remove them from the heat and let them rest three to five minutes, covered. For the smashed potatoes I boil the potatoes in salted water until they are fully cooked. Then I oil a sheet pan, smash the potatoes with a potato masher. You're not trying to make puree, it's not mashed potatoes, you are just smashing them once or twice each. Then I drizzle them with olive oil, add whatever seasonings I want and bake them in a very hot oven (425 or 450) until they are crispy (ten or fifteen minutes, watch them!) The kids wanted cheese on them so I put the cheese on two or three minutes before I took them out of the oven. submitted by /u/moonrabbit368 to r/mildlyinfuriating [link] [comments]

AITA for disinviting a friend to my birthday after she showed me the food she was bringing?
Hi guys, im using a throwaway for this one. So basically I (17f) am having my 18th at my house. It’s jsut a dinner with my closest friends. I told everyone they may bring food if they like but im going to doing little cooking like some bbq food and then ordering pizza. My guy friend (“Ryan”) asked if he can bring a mutual friend we have (“Emily”)since they’re dating now. I told him yea sure because he was gonna leave early anyway. She offered to make food and I told her that would be really nice but she didn’t have to. She insisted. I made a group chat of people coming and I invited Emily to it. I sent a message talking about when to come, to wear whatever. An important thing in the message was about allergies. I have a friend coming with a really serious nut allergy. I’ve never seen them have a reaction but I’ve been told it gets pretty bad. I wrote in the message to triple check your food doesn’t have nuts and to be aware of cross contaminating. Everyone read the message, some replied. Emily did a thumbs up on the message. Last night me and Emily were talking and she mentioned the food she made. I told her to show me a picture and it was a cake. The cake looked like something my mum had made before and it contained nuts. I asked if it had nuts and she said yes but not a lot and my friend could jsut not eat the cake. I told her I’d rather she just didn’t bring it. She then got mad and said she’d gone through the trouble of making the cake so she’s bringing it or she isn’t coming. I told her then she’s not coming because I was clear about my friends allergy and even cross contaminating was asked to be checked, so why would I allow her to bring a whole cake? She said it was disrespectful to disinvite her and that she’s Ryan’s gf, if he’s going she’s going. I told her no, it’s my party and I didn’t want her there anymore because she was acting like a child. She stopped texting me but then I got a call from Ryan saying i was being a massive dick and she spent ages on the cake. I said I don’t care if it took her two whole weeks to make the goddamn cake, i was specific from the beginning on what u could bring and couldn’t. The only thing you couldn’t bring was something with nuts. The parts where im talking to these two is where I may be TA. I asked if she’s incompetent of reading and comprehension and if she really doesn’t know any other cake recipe. He said i was being a bitch and hung up on me. Ryan is telling everyone him and Emily are not attending because I called them names and rejected Emily’s cake. A lot of friends, mostly ones not coming to the party, are saying it was slack to let her make something and then uninvite her because of what she made and she put effort in that cake for MY birthday. There’s only three people saying im not an AH and one of them is my friend with the nut allergy. My party is tomorrow and I kinda want persepctive on this before then. AITA? ——- edit: the cake is something like a spongey cake but it’s not an actual birthday cake with frosting. I really don’t know how to explain it but it’s seen as more a “treat” cake where I live if that makes any sense at all. 2nd edit: three things: im a girl guys lol. the friend with the allergy is a guy. also the comments calling my post fake are boring atp, im not responding to heaps of comments because there’s more than a thousand of them. boohoo to the guy cussing me out in the comments bc my name is cupcakelad and so that has to mean my stories fake bc im a boy. im australian also so atleast where I live lad is a common term and I use it in a joking way and to address, this is gonna sound crazy, guys AND girls! I said it was really sweet and thanked her for bringing a cake/thinking to make one for me. im responding to some comments but obviously I didn’t expect this post to blow up like it did so it might take me a while, im trying to read as much as I can ! :) 3rd: guys please look up allergies that can be airborne before you comment. it’s not propaganda or being sensitive. im not gonna debate whether my friends allergies are really that serious. the point of the post was asking if I was TA for what I called her, and disinviting her, if you read the title. I wasn’t asking for your opinion or medical advice regarding the allergy. seriously guys google is extremely free and easy to use. ALSO!! ty for all the bday wishes :))) 4th: for the love of god. if you think my post is fake pls keep scrolling. do not comment or dm me to point out spelling mistakes or anything I don’t care. it’s getting hard to report all the comments cussing me out for made up reasons of my post being fabricated. please seriously get a life. submitted by /u/throwaway-cupcakelad to r/AmItheAsshole [link] [comments]

Need dinner party recipes to use mustard!
ETA man this blew up and there are so many great suggestions! Thank you cooking people! Tentative menu I've decided on is: Cheesy mustard and leek soup in the fondue pot, for dipping app (Lil Smokies, crusty bread or soft pretzels if the local place that makes these is open, a vegetable) Pork loin roulade with mustard, prosciutto, probably some smoked gruyere (there's a great one I always have on hand) and baby spinach, maybe also rubbed in mustard before browning Soy and mustard glazed roasted Brussels sprouts I plan to use different mustards for each of these. And maybe a mash as a side as well but these people are actually fairly light eaters and we always fill up on apps, so probably don't need a starch with the main. I'll do a follow up post after the dinner in a couple weeks! Original post For Xmas, I got an ungodly variety of mustards. It was kind of a gag gift, and I'm not mad about it, but it's so, so, so much. The gifters of the mustard are coming over for a dinner I'm making (we rotate) and I want to use as much as possible, to return the gag gift. So please send your mustard inspo! I can obviously just go sausages but there's for to be better ideas\more creative\unexpected. Parameters: I've got all the kinds. German beer mustard, tarragon mustard, honey mustard, stone ground mustard.... All. The. Mustards. 12 in all not counting the ones I just already had. I'm a pretty skilled home cook but I'm not baking anything (breads etc). Using prepared puff padtry\philo etc ok It should actually be good and tasty. Obviously. This must involve a meat dish, and side(s). One prepared app also good (we usually do cheese\crackers for snacks but I could make something too) We just got a fondue pot which would be cool to use but not necessary. My husband does not like mustard as a spread\dip, and does not like creamy sauces. Obviously he doesn't have to have it, but if it's something where the sauce\spread is like the whole point and the dish isn't good without it, it's not for me in this instance. That said, something where the mustard is browned and seared, like a rub\marinade, is great. No salmon (mom hates salmon). I have access to good butcher shops and fancy ingredients because I live in a foodie area. But I'm not trying to do like a beef Wellington level of effort and $$$. submitted by /u/Stars_Upon_Thars to r/Cooking [link] [comments]

Pineapple Upside Down Cake from the 1970's, My wife and I still make our version of this at holiday dinners from recipes handed down to us from Mom. It actually goes great with a roast ham dinner.

I’m burned out on all my usual recipes — what’s your go-to lazy but satisfying dinner
I feel like I’ve been stuck in a dinner loop for weeks. Same 4-5 meals over and over: pasta, stir-fry, tacos, repeat. I’m looking for something that’s: Quick (30 mins or less) Low-effort (minimal chopping or cleanup) Actually tasty and filling I don’t mind carbs, meat, or veggies — just want something new that won’t require a million ingredients I’ll never use again. submitted by /u/shadowzzzz16 to r/DinnerIdeas [link] [comments]

Was craving something a bit more savory today. Made a rosemary garlic cheesy pull apart bread. BRB gonna go eat this entire thing for dinner. (Recipe was from Sally’s baking addiction)

TIL Thomas Jefferson was so impressed by macaroni and cheese during a visit to Paris that he wrote down the recipe and instructions on pasta extrusion, imported a pasta maker, macaroni, Parmesan, and made it at his home. He served it at a state dinner in 1802.

What is your go-to ACTUALLY easy dinner?
I understand everyone has their own idea of what would be considered “easy”. I’m talking something that takes 5-10 minutes to put together, with a cook time less than an hour. For my family, this has consistently (realistically) been a frozen entree like chicken patties or Cordon Bleu with a pre-packaged side like Knor pasta/rice or canned veggies. Occasionally we will default on Hamburger Helpers and skillet dinners as well. I’m trying to steer us away from that stuff, but some nights no one wants to cook, so if anyone has super easy recipes for those kind of nights I’d really appreciate it! Also, a couple of us are picky eaters so I will try to take whatever suggestions you may have and tweak it a bit. Thanks in advanced! Edit: I just want to thank everyone once again for the enormous amount of helpful responses that have flooded in, my phone has been blowing up for hours! I started to take notes, but had to stop for the night and will come back tomorrow. You guys are all awesome, thanks for sharing! submitted by /u/Septemily to r/EatCheapAndHealthy [link] [comments]

We love meals at home but started to hate trying to pick something. I entered every recipe we've ever saved and put it in a spreadsheet, got a D60 die and now we roll for dinner options when we make the grocery list each week. Each family member gets a veto, but picking meals is actually fun now.
