Positives & Negatives RE: Dip Powder
Are there any good or bad stories about the Dip out there? To date I have only positive feelings about dip powder as a choice to protect my own nails. I've never used acrylic or an artificial nail. I was a devout Gel Polish user until about a year ago. I'm 66 and loved the longevity of gel now I need the dip more 🥰. Once a month is a god send IMO. I've never had a nail break, crack, or chip since I've started the Dip Powder, however, I realized that the results are completely due to the manicurist applying the dip. I think it was my 2nd or 3rd time having dip applied and it turned out horrible. The next day nails virtually had little craters and lumps on every single one. No, I don't do it myself and am lucky to have two fantastic nail technicians one in San Antonio and one in Los Angeles were I live. Both pay attention to details and i greatly appreciate it. They explained that 3 layers of dip and before the top coat is applied an eFile is used to smooth out the top and sides. The disaster dip did not get that stage just a buffing. My nails are slightly curved and I don't like them thick because I love scratching when I need to 😝. I've been getting dip powder about a year now. My nails grow at a steady pace so I have them trimmed every 8 weeks. At that time I'll go 4 weeks with nothing on nails, just daily oil massages on nails and cuticles to replenish nail health. 🤷🏼‍♀️ What can i say, it works for me. Best dip powder kit for newbie?
Hello! I am trying to get better at using dip powder (That ISNT Sistaco) and looking for a new brand. I spent a fortune on Sistaco and it kinda works but mostly doesn’t. My hands tend to shake sometimes so I’m trying to find a system that has fairly easy application because I refuse to not let it get in the way of doing my nails. Are there any specific brands that work better than others? Base coat and top coats more long lasting than others? I have led lamps and such already but just looking for a new kit. Been browsing this morning and you guys have some amazing nails on here. Thank you!!! submitted by /u/TheSwordAndTheSpoon to r/DipPowderNails [link] [comments]

Three months into dip powder and my removal process is destroying my natural nails
I started doing dip powder at home about three months ago and the application has gotten pretty decent but my removal process is clearly wrong because my natural nails are getting thinner and more brittle every single time. What I’ve been doing is soaking cotton balls in acetone, wrapping each finger in foil, waiting about 15 minutes, then scraping off whatever comes off with a cuticle pusher. Some nails come off clean but others still have this stubborn layer that won’t budge so I end up scraping harder and I think that’s where the damage is happening. My nails used to be pretty strong before I started this and now they’re bending and splitting at the tips which they never did before. The surface also looks kind of chalky and dull between manicures even after I apply cuticle oil religiously. I keep seeing people mention nail drill machines for removal and I’m wondering if that’s actually gentler than my current scraping method or if I’d just be causing different damage. The price range is confusing as hell, some are $25 and some are $300 and I can’t figure out what justifies that gap. My sister buys her nail supplies in bulk through either amazon or alibaba and she mentioned something about RPM ratings mattering more than brand name but couldn’t explain it further. Can someone walk me through a removal process that isn’t slowly destroying my nails? submitted by /u/Easy-Extension-6917 to r/DipPowderNails [link] [comments]

Dip powder option?
First let me apologize in advance for my ignorance. I haven’t had my nails done in a looooong time. I’ve been wanting to get them done and am very confused about all the different options. I’m interested in making them longer, getting some long-lasting polish on them, and doing the least amount of damage to my natural nails as possible. I’ve heard that “dip powder” is probably what I’m looking for. I assume a service like that includes nail color? This is my local salons menu. Can y’all help me pick which one I’m looking for? submitted by /u/andiinAms to r/DipPowderNails [link] [comments]

Clear dip topped with regular nail polish ✨💜 - anyone else do this?
My favorite way to use up regular nail polish bottles i have! Did a few coats of clear SNS dip powder and put mooncat’s shade “hell is other people” on top. I always find it lasts really long when overtop of dip - at least 2 weeks sometimes more. submitted by /u/Kind-Newspaper-6447 to r/DipPowderNails [link] [comments]

New to DIY dip nails and nail art, and I'm loving it!
I have been figuring out how to do my own dip nails at home, and then I plan to get into nail art after I collect a basic assortment of gel polish colors. All I have so far, are gel base and top coat, along with about 4 dip powders and the dip liquids. Yesterday, I saw it mentioned that you can use acrylic paint between gel layers for nail art..! I've got that. LOTS of that. Suffice it to say, I was off. So, this is my first attempt. I'm happy to hear any tips or critiques, as I'm always wanting to improve. I had so much fun challenging myself to make tiny art. I'm addicted! So much fun! -color is Fairy Glamour- White Rabbit (And acrylic paint) submitted by /u/40xdsc to r/DipPowderNails [link] [comments]

Is dip powder really non damaging to nails?

Quitting dip powder, would like to transition to nail polish. Would like some support (:
Hi everyone, I’ve been doing dip powder nails since August 2023, and after recently learning about acrylate allergies and it impacting current/future dental work I decided it was probably best for me to pause doing my own dip powder, go natural and possibly transition back to nail polish. I’ve been told conflicting information regarding my concerns, but until I get better information I just decided to quit dip. Maybe not forever but just for right now. After months and months of dip, my nails are so thin. They bend when I touch them, but they don’t hurt. How long will it take for my nails to get strong again? Should I just load up on nail oil? Currently wearing Ella + Mia Nail Hardener, the ingredients looked okay so I went with this. OPI Nail Envy appears to have acrylates. I’m looking for brands that’s easily accessible (don’t always want to buy online. If I can buy something in store that’s better for me) that will be safe to use long term. Any help and support is appreciated. I’m really upset about having to probably give up my only hobby… yes, my only hobby… I’d like to be able to continue that with nail polish if I can. submitted by /u/siobhanmairii__ to r/RedditLaqueristas [link] [comments]

SNS or Revel? or others?
TL:DR: need to start doing my own dip nails at home, they need to be clear for school. SNS or Revel? Are these kits the correct ones for clear dip? Any others you’d recommend over SNS/Revel? I’ve always been a nail girly. I’m in nursing school and we’re not allowed to have anything on our nails. My first semester I followed that, and had horribly ugly, breaking, thin nails that looked unhygienic even though they were clean and well taken care of. This semester I went with getting clear dip over my nails to keep them strong. I continued going to my normal nail artist for them, but I’ve gotten so slammed with school & had to cut my work hours significantly. I don’t have the time to drive to the other side of town and sit for 1.5hrs, nor the money. I’ve been exploring at home clear dips. I’m used to doing things DIY at home, I do my own lashes and used to do my own acrylic color nails with tips. Would you suggest me getting the SNS or Revel? or something else? I’ve really only seen good things about those two- but again I have to have clear. I’m kind of confused with everything on SNS’s site. This is the kit I think I’d get if I order from them, but most of the videos for SNS include doing a gel color powder and I wouldn’t be doing that. SNS has so many different bottles of things that confuse me- are they needed? What’s the difference of them? I’ve only learned about needing the base, powder, activator, and top coat. What’s all the other things? The second set of pics is of the Revel kit I think would work best for me. Thanks for your help 🤍 submitted by /u/distressedminnie to r/DipPowderNails [link] [comments]

Icy blue chrome powder, my 2nd attempt at doing my own gel nails. I get so shaky. Hope I can learn to paint inside the lines better with time!
ALL THE CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM WELCOME! 😊💅🏻 Using a kit off Amazon I started doing my own gel nails. Still a beginner at the painting part, but the last mani I did held well for 2 weeks with no chips and it looked better than my last trip to the salon. The kit I used was the Modelones gel polish kit. I also used MEFA gel polish for the blue polish, Vishine no wipe top coat, and Artdone chrome nail powder. All products from Amazon. Very inexpensive. Didn’t want to spend a ton of money not knowing if I will stick with it. I have been most impressed with the chrome powder! It did take me twice as long to get the old gel off as it did to paint these. I soaked in acetone in a bowl of hot water with nails rubbing against cotton balls. I think the paper towels I used last time worked a little better. I poured the acetone in a plastic baggy and dipped the bag in the warm water and let my nails sit in it. I did remember to buff off the top layer of the polish. In my experience the chrome powder on the edges washes/wears off after about a day leaving the nail looking much cleaner. I did worry about using such a dark blue, but once you apply the chrome it completely changes the nail color. The last photo shows the blue with only one nail having chrome on it. I used an eyeshadow brush to gentle rub the chrome on making sure I get all the edges and the tips of the nail. I prepped and painted as normal but when I got to my top coat I cured for 30 seconds, applied the chrome and went over with another top coat that I cured for 60 seconds. I trimmed my nails down a bit and I really regret it but I’m just not used to having them grown out so long yet. I’m doing a lot of gardening and getting dirty so wanted dexterity with my fingers. On the bright side the last ones did so well that I think this hobby could easily become my new 2024 obsession. So far I’m $40 in and have gotten 2 gel manis so I think I’m already in the green compared to what I’m paying at the nail salon. submitted by /u/BellaStayFly to r/RedditLaqueristas [link] [comments]
