E-dirt bikes on the Goose/EN
I've been seeing an increase in kids riding high speed e-dirt bikes on the trails lately. Yesterday while I was out for a run on the Goose one such bike heading in the opposite direction entered my lane while passing when they were about 100' away. Figure this kid was probably going at least 50-60km/hr; felt like I could have pretty easily been hit. Since this has become a fairly common occurrence I decided to report it to the Saanich PD non-emergency line. Long story short, nothing they can do because I didn't get this kids license plate (which of course he wouldn't have) and I didn't report it in time for officers to go find the kid. I'm sure I'm not the only one who's encountered these type of bikes as a problem out there recently. It would be nice if police could handle this issue as a matter of law enforcement/accident prevention - unlicensed 13 year olds driving 80lb vehicles at 60km/hr on shared trails seems like something they should be addressing proactively before someone gets hurt or killed. Any thoughts out there on how to better report this type of thing? submitted by /u/engineerection to r/VictoriaBC [link] [comments]

Surrons are dirt bikes?
Saw this on insta and a lot of people were arguing that These are not considered dirt bikes and should be allowed on the trails which is crazy to me. they think it’s comparable to normal pedal assisted e bikes. 😭 Edit: Changed the flair from question. I know They’re dirt bikes I just found it funny there are people who think they aren’t. Some dude was arguing that they’re considered e bikes in his place and should be considered everywhere lol submitted by /u/GKomrinK to r/mountainbiking [link] [comments]

Regulate Jerks not E bikes
I've been so frustrated with the discussion on regulating e-bikes/ e-motos because there's something I haven't seen addressed much. No matter what e bike regs you put in place, the same jerks who are zipping by at 35mph on the bike path are just going to break the law and do it anyway, e-moto or no. I really got thinking about this when I saw this guy and presumably his son riding dirt bikes on the bike path in broad daylight. I saw mopeds and small motorcycles on the bike path back home as well. The problem isn't throttles, or being capable of going 30mph, or anything to do with the bikes themselves. You don't need to tell an e-bike from an e-moto to know it's wrong to blow by someone too close going super fast. Or that you should not be going more than 15-20 mph AT ABSOLUTE MOST through shared spaces with bikes and pedestrians. Honestly we could probably get more safe spaces for bikes and other non car transport if spaces were built to include things like mopeds, light motorcycles and golf carts as well. More users, more dollars and vested interest to enforce things like speeding, recklessness operation, etc. You could even restrict the noise level or weight class on particular trail ways based on things like its location and width. I think it'd be easy if you just had the funding and political will to enforce it. It's hard to get that enforcement with the narrow base of just bike and e bike users. If we opened the types of vehicles we're allowing in these spaces instead of restricting it, we could widen the user base and actually police people who're being reckless and dangerous. Let's not alienate responsible people who want to get away from cars but need the ability to keep up with them in some cases. OK rant over. submitted by /u/Any-Foundation5983 to r/ebikes [link] [comments]

People need to stop confusing e-motos with e-bikes
I’m beyond fed up with people blaming “e-bikes” for stuff that clearly involves e-motos causing reckless and unsafe behavior I don’t have anything against e-motos themselves the issue is the way a lot of them are being ridden. Around me, there are constant complaints on Nextdoor and even 911 calls about kids riding unregistered bikes, doing wheelies and stunts on 40–45 mph roads, no plates, no helmets, etc. Every single time, people jump straight to “kids on e-bikes are the problem.” That’s just wrong. Actual e-bikes (the legal ones) are limited, regulated, and not built for that kind of riding in traffic. What people are seeing are electric dirt bikes / e-motos totally different category. I’ve tried explaining the difference in my local groups, but people don’t want to hear it. They just double down, call everything an e-bike, and move on. Some have even told others to block me like I’m defending the behavior, which I’m not. submitted by /u/Zestyclose-Pop-7130 to r/ebikes [link] [comments]

Anyone have any experience with this Eskute electric dirt bike
Looking for something to get me around yard and got to the store on occasion live in a small town. I know it’s a dirt bike but I don’t like the look of the average e bike. I assume I could buy a slick tire for the rear, it says 53 mile range so realistically I am looking at 30 ? I am 5’8” 175 -185, potentially pull a dog trailer behind me because where I go my boy goes lol right in what I feel ok spending $700. So what I’m asking is there better options. Is this a pos from Amazon, is it enough power for me and my dog maybe a little more weight?? I am a virgin when it comes to EBike submitted by /u/864FastAsfBoy to r/ebikes [link] [comments]

look to get my first E motorcycle or dirt bike, any suggestions?
Im looking to get an e motorcycle mostly cause u dont need a motorcycle license to operate them in my city, just a learners permit is enough. I’ve done dirt biking, ATVs, high speed E scooters but never a motorcycle. my city has a law where you have to take lessons to get a motorcycle license even if you already know how to ride but the lessons are $800-1000 so i’m hoping to just get the Electric one since they classify is moped and i can by pass the lessons. i saw the Evoque Streetster R and what i see looks good so far. Top speed is 32km/h but can go up to about 95km/h when put in off road mode however it’s hard to find reviews from people who aren’t working for the company. I’m wondering if there’s any other street legal bikes that are up to par or better. I hear the Zero bike is really good but out of my price range, i’d rather put the work into actually getting a motorcycle license at that point and i’m not opposed if that’s what it comes to. i just prefer to look at electric first. i’m new and i don’t really know what else is out there so anything from the $2500-6000 CAD range for a starter bike would be great thanks! submitted by /u/Intrepid_Rub_9631 to r/emoto [link] [comments]

Mayor Farkas: address the e-bike issue before Spring
u/JeromyYYC Dear Mayor, Every year, as it gets warm, there are "e-bikes", which are really electric motor cycles all over Calgary's paved pathways and trails (nose hill, fish creek). The people who use these vehicles don't pedal. They just have a throttle which allows them to do 40 or 50 km/h - they're just electric motor cycles. They're also often dressed in a full face helmet and sometimes body armor. If they get into a collision they won't get hurt, but will take someone out. If confronted, they will threaten violence sometimes. I know you're a trail runner - do you want to run into electric dirt bikes on nose hill doing 40 km/h? There are more and more of these "e-bikes" on the paths and trails every year. I have nothing against someone riding a pedal assist electric bike doing 20 km/h, but that's not the issue I'm asking you to address. Other jurisdictions are doing something about this: New Jersey now requires license, insurance to ride e-bikes | Driving I'd appreciate an acknowledgement if you do read this and take action. Thank you for your attention. submitted by /u/morecoffeemore to r/Calgary [link] [comments]

How do we feel about Electric Dirt Bikes? ⚡️
Coming from riding a fully restored 1993 RMF 250 2 Stroke (this is my baby) and various other machines throughout time, I just got this Arctic Leopard XE Pro S E-Bike and it is actually pretty sweet! Like many coming from traditional dirt bikes, I wanted to hate on these things but I’m fully convinced that no matter how much of a gasser fan you are, there’s no shot that any person hops on one of these E-bikes and doesn’t have a smile on their face by the time they get done ripping on one! Not to say I’d ever fully “convert” to electric bikes but I now will forever have an E-bike in my bike collection! It’s an absolute must have!💯 This bike in particular is a little bigger than a Surron Light Bee X (probably the most well known E-bike) but it has a lot more power than the Surron Light Bee X. This has 370 ft lbs of torque to the rear wheel and it only weighs 160 lbs with the battery in it. Battery is a beefy 72V 55Ah (3960 Wh) pack so it gets damn good range. Peak power of 20kW (27HP) and tops out around 70 mph too. This also has a direct drive gearbox with oil which I prefer over the belt drive / jack shaft system that a lot of these E-bikes usually have. Now, my 250 definitely has more power but this XE Pro S pulls off of the line like no other (that’s that electric delivery for you). It’s also just a lot more nimble and I can maneuver it easier in tight turns, hill scenarios etc. it shines in those areas over a traditional gas bike like my 250. This is just fact. What’s weird ab these bikes though, is the fact that there’s no foot brake, no shifter, and no clutch. But it’s pretty simple bc it’s like a bicycle in the sense of the rear brake is the left brake lever and the front brake is the right brake lever. It’s simple as simple can be but when you come from traditional gas dirt bikes with a manual transmission, it gets some getting used to. Bottom line is this thing has opened my eyes to this whole E-bike world and has changed my perspective on the matter. All my friends are giving me sooo much shit but a few of them have ridden this XE Pro S and now they want one haha. This will more than likely be the case for every person ever, even if you’re a huge electric hater. Let me know what you guys think ab this. All hate and love is welcomed so let’s hear your stand points on this! I’m expecting to get a lot of hate but haters are my motivators! 🤣 💪 🏍️ submitted by /u/Dixon_Cider2 to r/Dirtbikes [link] [comments]

E-Bikes raise alarm while we've normalized automobile dangers - Globe letter to the editor from BCU
https://www.bostonglobe.com/2025/12/06/opinion/letters-e-bike-safety-regulations/ E-bikes raise alarm while we've normalized automobile dangers The tragic deaths of Minh Dang, 64, who died after being struck by an e-biker in Back Bay, and Parker Robles, 13, who died after the electric dirt bike he was riding collided with a car, are heartbreaking and serve as a reminder that we have much work to do to eliminate traffic fatalities in Massachusetts. Unfortunately, because e-bikes were involved in both deaths, we have seen knee-jerk, though well-intentioned, calls for tighter restrictions ("It's getting hard to ignore e-bikes' dangers," Opinion, BostonGlobe.com, Dec. 1). However, they may cause more harm than good. As a society, we have normalized traffic violence caused by cars. Speeding, running stop signs, parking illegally, and collisions are everyday occurrences. Yet unlike with e-bikes, we don't see the same fervor for built-in speed limiters or road diets. There are laws in place for e-bikes, as well as motorcycles, but across Massachusetts these clearly have not been solutions. Enforcement is difficult, especially considering that historically it has been highly discriminatory. Rule-breaking is often a sign that there's an unmet need. Riders use sidewalks because that feels safer than being in car traffic. There is room for more regulations, but these should address the e-bike industry and delivery companies, not just riders overall. I have seen too many 13 yr olds trying to save up money for an electric dirt bike, here is how I did it
I am 14, I sold everything I owned. Write on a paper anything you can sell and for how much. Add it up and it will surprise you how it adds up. I had to make some sacrifices but I ended up getting 2500. No I dont have fancy stuff it just added up, that took 3 months of relisting things every day and it worked. I then started looking for talaria sting mx3s and mx4s used which you could find some for 2500 if you talked people down or looked hard enough. I now have a talaria mx3 that I am currently selling for 3200 so I can buy an e ride pro sr by buying and reselling more bikes. Dont buy a bike with more than 1000 miles or else you'll have problems with reselling and riding. Dont buy a bike with any problems, especially with the battery, motor, controller, or screen. You have to be smart with what you buy. Don't buy a surron, they dont sell well and they are just not as good anymore. Stick with talarias because they sell well and are just so much better. Dont get a xxx because they also dont sell well and are overpriced used and you could get an mx3 and some mx4s for the same price. Make sure it has these things -no problems -under 1000 miles -has good brakes ( talk people down if it sucks) -it will work fine when you check it out When buying dont plan on buying when you check it out stay calm and clear minded and make sure you pick the right bike cause there are no take backs. If you get a good deal, try and resell, might as well and then find another cheap bike but also get some extra cash. If you are reselling dont do any upgrades, they dont help with selling it, trust me, I've studied the surron market for a while and know my stuff. If you guys have questions on a bike you think is a good deal dm because I bet I can help. If you say you want to save, start now. Go write down everything you can sell on a paper and if it adds up sell it. Dont sell the things you like more first because if things dont work out that would suck, start with the things you are less attached to, and when you sold that stuff start with the stuff you like. Make sure you know it will work out before you sell that stuff. Dont ask people to trade, no one wants to. But go and list and get that bike. There is good deals right now cause summer is ending. submitted by /u/Mysterious-Rent-9943 to r/Surron [link] [comments]

Packs of feral teenagers on e-bikes
Am I being a grumpy old man, shaking his fist at the clouds, whenever I see teenagers riding around town on E-bikes? Like all of you, I myself have an E-bike. Im 30 something and work in an office and my bike definitely reflects that. Its a step-through with a rear rack and front basket. I have little blinkers on it and a bell that goes ding. It is for going to work at a reasonable speed and occasional grocery trips. sometimes I hook a child seat onto the rear rack and take my toddler for a ride around the neighborhood. I love having an e-bike because i don't have to deal with the maintenance, registration, and parking headaches of a car. I recognize that 28 miles an hour is rather fast for a bike, and sometimes i feel like it's fast enough to be on the road with the "real" vehicles in certain neighborhoods. It wouldn't surprise me if some kind of regulation comes up in the future just because these things can go so dang fast if you really want them to, so i always try to be mindful of the fact that "hey, im a bicycle thats going to move a little bit faster than car drivers might be expecting" so I don't become an invconvenience on the streets. But then almost every other day, I see a bike club of younger kids on electric dirt-bikes with pedals on them. And i feel like these manufacturers understand that this is a huge market for them, which is why i see so many e-bikes that are basically motocross bikes with pedals on them as a legal loophole to allow 14 year olds to ride around popping wheelies and having fun. They'll have 2500 watt motors, so you know, great for inclines, but we all know how easy it is to change the top speed limit on these bikes. And these kids know as well as we do. I see them banking turns at almost 40 mph. And i'm not against kids having fun or having cool things if their parents get it for them but i get so stressed out thinking which one of these teenagers are going to do something awful on one of these bikes and starts getting laws changed. Am i over reacting? Am i old grumpy and out of touch? someone tell me im over reacting and these kids aren't causing any problems because thats what i want someone to tell me. submitted by /u/Ok_Key_4868 to r/ebikes [link] [comments]

Been off a MTB for almost 15 years , many motorcycles and dirt bikes later I’m back on Santa Cruz’s new bike the Vala , it’s the second model year with a Bosch gen 5 motor , and kiosk 400 screen, plenty of suspension and jumpability , haven’t been anywhere near draining the 600w battery since I bought it, best part is riding with my kids , submitted by /u/Lamestdudeout to r/ebikes [link] [comments]

14-Year Old Obsessed with E-bike
My 14 year old son is driving my husband and me crazy. All he does is complain and whine about not having a bike like his friends. His dad and I have two stipulations: we don’t want anything that goes over 28 mph, and it has to be an actual bike with pedals. We live in a small town, so the bike would have to be street legal and not some dirt motorbike. I suggested a Super73, but he doesn’t want that. He is driving us crazy. Do you have any suggestions for bikes that fit our criteria that are “cool” to 14 year old boys? Thanks in advance. submitted by /u/GatsbysGreenLight88 to r/ebikes [link] [comments]

First accident on new e-bike. Found interesting fact about bicycling speed.
So I bought a Favato Flit. About a week after I got it I was heading home from work on a decomposed granite trail, I was doing between 20 and 25mph. I had kept it locked at 20mph, but was peddling hard down a slight grade. The trail has a lot of curves. I tried to cut a corner and hit the curb and flipped over the handlebars getting my jean shorts snagged on them. The shorts ripped about a foot (25 cm) and I had some abrasions that turned into a bruise and a mouth full of dirt and grass. A few scratches on the brake handles. That was scary. What was more scary is I found out the average speed for the pros on the Tour de France are about 27 mph on flat sections of their race. I was about going that speed and am not a professional. I got lucky I landed into wet grass. I am going to slow down. All of you on faster bikes, please be careful. submitted by /u/LoneStarGut to r/ebikes [link] [comments]

What do you think about e-bikes?
It seems that e-bikes like the Surron and E-Ride Pro have gained a lot of popularity recently. The target audience for these bikes is also an interesting cross-section between mountain bike riders, dirt bike riders, street bike riders, and e-bike enthusiasts (new kids on the block?). From casual research, here are my pros and cons for these bikes. Pros: - Versatile for street, off-road, and mixed use - Accessible and fun for all skill levels - Instant torque with top speed as high as 60 mph - Great handling and low weight - Low maintenance - Low fuel / charging cost - Emerging aftermarket for mods - No insurance or registration requirement in a lot of areas (see cons) Cons: - Range (as low as 20 miles total at top speed) - Cost (debate-able, since at $4-5k they are much more expensive than ‘traditional’ e-bikes, but cheaper than dirt bikes) - Poor brake performance - Poor tire longevity - Ease of theft - DIY assembly required - Long term reliability is unclear - Future regulations on insurance and registration is unclear (many cities in the US seem to classify these as electronic bicycles, but it varies by jurisdiction, and even law enforcement may be unclear about their legal treatment) My personal stance is that I would buy one of these if I were in the market for a 125-250cc dirt bike, but I’m not convinced about buying it as a new toy out of the blue. It’s starting to win me over, but I think there is more development coming and hopefully lower cost in future models. What do you think? Anyone have experience with these bikes, or even with traditional e-bikes? Image credit: Bikefactory Hawaii submitted by /u/takaminenine to r/motorcycles [link] [comments]
