I finished pressure washing the deck! Did some gardening (more like heavy duty landscaping) and are now relaxing on the freshly cleaned deck. The neighbors’ dog went crazy barking for no good reason while we were working in the yard, but a couple of dance tunes from the late nineties shut him up. I can’t stand unnecessary barking.

Please help! Why is my dog barking at me
Hi everyone! first, formal apologies for the toes being out, but i wanted to show that I was not instigating him in anyway lmfao. This is Rune, some of you might recognize him.i’ve posted and deleted some posts about him on this subreddit. First time dog owner! Yay! but still have a lot to learn. My partner and I adopted him from a shelter 2 weeks ago as of this upcoming saturday. At first his barking wasn’t bad, but it’s started to get progressively more frequent and for longer durations. We don’t feed into it, we turn away (as you can see i turn and sit down on the couch) or leave the room when he starts to bark, in hopes to diffuse it. Most of the time that has been working. Recently though, he’ll stop when we leave and then once he sees us he will start up barking again. Is this aggression? Play? Demand barking? Any advice on effective ways to minimize the frequency or length of duration? We live in an apartment and today he decided 4:30 AM (morning walk time) was the perfect moment to have a freak out. Any and all advice is appreciated. Thank you! submitted by /u/Mediocre-Ask3818 to r/DogAdvice [link] [comments]

Dog begs for his cookie, and then barks and growls at it. New behavior, starting within the last month. Only with this brand he’s had for years now with no problem.
Every night he begs for his cookie after dinner, it is a large milk bone. He used to eat it without problem, but now he does this. He will bark at it, smack it, and drag it around the house. Eventually he will eat it after his ‘tantrum’. I can’t find anything online about changing ingredients in them. The weird part is he actively begs for this treat, and then refuses to eat it. Sometimes he won’t do this behavior and it’ll just sit on his place all night. We can’t figure out the cause of this behavior. He had a vet appointment last month and everything was alright then. He has no problems eating other treats or his food either so I don’t necessarily think it is a tooth problem. It’s just a weird thing he’s been doing that is getting concerning. 7-ish years old, fixed, Boxer mix submitted by /u/FatAssFennekin to r/DogAdvice [link] [comments]

Neighbors dogs barking is driving me insane! Time for payback.
Please excuse my rant. New neighbor recently bought the house next door to me (2 yrs ago). She has 4 dogs. At any time there are two or three dogs in the backyard barking constantly. These are small 'lapdogs' with an incredibally annoying high pitched bark. These dogs just stand in the yard and bark constantly at nothing. If I go into my yard or onto my deck, they stand in the middle of her yard and bark at me the whole time I am outside. 6 foot fence between us (my fence) the dogs can clearly see me when I'm on the deck. If i am in the yard they just know I'm there and bark. When I go in the house, I can still hear the nonstop barking. Neighbors accross the alley have blown air horns into her yard and gotten into screaming matches with her to 'Shut her F****ng dogs up. Bylaw has been to her house at least 4 or 5 times that I know of. I'm sure they had been there on other neighbors complaints as well but seem to do nothing. I am thinking of being a good neighbor by putting a loud speaker on my dack and playing dogs barking into her yard every time she is outside. Would this be a kind and neighborly thing to do? submitted by /u/Choice_Ad_1538 to r/neighborsfromhell [link] [comments]

Can I complain about a constant barking dog if it’s not during quiet hours?
Hey all. Title says it. My neighbors that I share walls with recently went and got the loudest dog they could find. I understand I will hear others when living in a shared building, but 3-4 hours straight of nonstop barking while I work from home is starting to really frustrate me. At first, I thought it was only while they weren’t home because they would never answer the door when I tried to (kindly!!) address it. But now I know which cars are theirs, and this isn’t the case. They just allow her to bark for hours and ignore my knocks. Leaving a note didn’t work either. Is this something I can complain to the office about? Or no, because it’s during the day? submitted by /u/k-d0ttt to r/Apartmentliving [link] [comments]

Dog barking at EVERYTHING - help!
3 months ago, I adopted a 3-year old male Australian Shepherd. He is so sweet and an absolute darling in the house. Never barks at all inside. He plays well with other dogs. A good balance of playful and mellow inside. Super smart. He’s been good with dogsitters, and shy but sweet around new people. I don’t know much about his life before me, but I know he was an owner surrender from the rural south, and I live in New York City. As he decompressed over the first 3 months, he became increasingly stressed whenever we go for walks. I figured that it was just due to him getting used to city noises, and that he’d adapt. When he’s chill, he’s great on the leash. Walks right beside me, doesn’t pull, checks in regularly. An angel! But when he’s stressed, he’s a completely different dog. He started with barking at motorcycles, then UPS trucks, and then all trucks, now all big cars. He started barking at people wearing masks/hoods, and now he barks at literally everyone and everything the second we walk outside. Sometimes it feels like he’s just barking into thin air. Recently, he’s started lunging at trucks and people when we pass by. No matter how much distance I create, he’s half my size, so I have a really difficult time controlling him when he flings his entire body weight toward the road or at someone. I feel completely out of control when this happens, and it’s dangerous for both of us. I took him out today and within 5 minutes he has pulled me into the road 3 times, so I had to take him inside. I know this doesn’t help, because he gets more pent up, but I can’t put myself or him or anyone else at risk when he’s like this. Since he needs a lot of exercise, I try to make sure he gets at least 2 hours of exercise per day, in addition to mental stimulation. I do A LOT. If I can get him over to the west side highway (an 8 minute walk), it’s so much easier because it’s far away from traffic and I can create enough distance between him and other people so he doesn’t freak out. I take him to the dog park where he runs around and is happy as a clam playing with the other dogs. But the process of getting him there and back is becoming impossible. I try to avoid / distract him from triggers as much as I can, but it is literally impossible. There are people, cars, and trucks EVERYWHERE. And when he’s stressed, he doesn’t listen to me or care about any of his treats. I can tell he’s so scared and it breaks my heart. It’s like the second we walk out of my apartment lobby, he’s already above threshold because he’s seen 20 triggers between my apartment door and the exit. I recently introduced him to a few male family members, and he nipped at their ankles when they stood up to walk away. I went out of town last week and my friend stayed in my apartment to take care of him, and I guess they were standing close too the elevator. A woman walked out and he got spooked and lunged at her. She was screaming that he tried to bite her (he didn’t, we asked the doorman who saw, but I understand why she was scared!) and reported it to the building. They were chill, but I guess it’s just a shock to the system. I will add: he’s WAY better with my husband on walks than with me. He listens more, but I know that my husband is probably far more in control with the leash just based on size. I’m sure he feels me tense up with the leash when I’m stressed walking him, which probably doesn’t help. Needless to say, help?!? We’ve been working with a dog trainer for about 2 months to create positive association between trigger / treat, but it seems like it’s just getting worse. It started where like 10% of his walks he was stressed, and now it’s about 90%. He is the sweetest boy and it’s breaking my heart in pieces. I’m completely lost on what to do. I have an appointment with a behavioral vet about possible anti-anxiety meds to get him under threshold, but I know that’s not a catch-all solution. Here’s a photo of my handsome boy so you can see what a sweetie pie he is 😍 submitted by /u/Emergency-Bee342 to r/reactivedogs [link] [comments]

If you have dogs that bark at everything… don’t move into a freakin apartment?
I mean every person walking up the stairs, every package that gets dropped off, every time a neighbor’s dog gets taken out for a walk, whenever the owner leaves/gets home, EVERYTHING. and I don’t mean a “woof woof woof”. I mean 20 minutes of 2 little dogs barking, slamming noises like they’re ramming into a door, etc. Every time. Train your gd dogs or go live away from the rest of us because HOLY SHIT. submitted by /u/CryptographerOk419 to r/Apartmentliving [link] [comments]

Excessive Dog Barking from New neighbors
Had to shorten the video because reddit wouldn't upload the full length one, but this barking happens for anywhere between ten minutes and an hour, multiple times a day. We have lived in this apartment for a little over a year, it is pet friendly and there's dogs all around us. But we have never had a barking issue until our new neighbors moved in during Christmas. The barking is loud, excessive, happens during quiet hours and often goes on for anywhere between 10 minutes to an hour, multiple times a day. As it is we are dealing with stomping over our bedroom during quiet hours. We found out this dog is a heeler, untrained because when we saw him being taken outside he lunged aggressively at me. We have tried to confront the neighbors, but its always teenage girls and they run away from me with the dog. They seem to only take him out for 5 minutes before rushing him back inside, so I know this high energy breed is getting no exercise. He also sounds crated because its always over our dining room. Issue is, we hear it throughout the entire apartment. Today I've reached a breaking point. Its been excessive all day long, and when it finally stopped all I hear is the people up there arguing about the dog. They don't sound like nice people, I don't feel comfortable knocking on their door and we haven't heard anything back from our apartment manager on the matter despite there being a section in our lease about excessive noise. There is a law in our town about excessive noise, so at this point are we warranted to call the cops? We're struggling to sleep, we get no peace during the day, and I'm frankly nervous to walk in the breezeway because the dog is aggressive and the kids can barely control him. I'm at a loss, what do we do? submitted by /u/FatPenguin26 to r/Apartmentliving [link] [comments]

How to handle neighbor's complaint of my barking dog?
The other day our neighbor that lives behind us approached my husband asking if the small black dog was ours. He sad yes and the neighbor complained that he barks a lot. My husband said "not really but ok, he's a dog". She was really rude to him and said she called the leasing office to complain and they told her our dog can't be barking. So my husband just told her "well he's a dog and you live in a dog friendly community so idk what you expect" and then he called her something i kind of wish he hadn't although i understand because she approached him rudely. BTW, we have a pug mix. In my opinion, he barks a lot but I'm not a big animal person nor did I grow up with them so I'm not used to hearing dogs bark. He barks when he sees people walk by, when he hears other dogs barking in the distance. That seems normal to me. So my husband calls the leasing office and they confirmed no one called to complain about us. They then said there's nothing they can do because it's a dog friendly community and our dog is doing exactly what dogs do. Now I'm kind of worried about them possibly poisoning our dog if they get that mad at him. I have heard them mutter "shut up" to him when he's barked but I always get my dog to quiet down. When we're away working, he has access to the patio (which shares a fence with theirs) and of course he's going to bark. He sees birds, cats and hears street noise. We can't do anything about it. However, when we're home we tell him to hush when he starts barking. In reality we don't know how much he barks when we're not home. A part of me wants to approach her next time I see her by her car and see if we can be friendly. I would be OK with her telling my dog to be quiet if she goes out to her patio. He's a good dog and I can teach her his commads. It's usually "Name, hush. Go to your room" (his kennel) and he's good about being quiet after that. We are installing a camera from our bedroom just in case. As someone who's not a big animal person and sees her dog as a dog (yes he's family and all but he's still just a dog), i dont trust people who are less animal people than me. If I come home to my dog dead, I'd rather have video footage than not be able to prove it was them. submitted by /u/Final-Sky-2757 to r/Apartmentliving [link] [comments]

PSA: everyone hears your eternally barking dog and we all hate you
I thought I'd share since clearly many people are too stupid or too inconsiderate to ever realize this: if your dog is outside barking continuously, YES we all hear it and YES we all hate you. I have neighbors on three sides who just leave their dogs outside all God damn day. One has three or four little yappy dogs that bark for hours on end, literally, every day. She never walks them, never plays with them, and when I politely suggested taking them to the dog park she said she was afraid they'd catch diseases. They're bored, stressed, and bark ALL DAY. Please bring you dogs inside when they bark. Please actually care for and exercise your animals instead of leaving them alone in a tiny yard where all they can do is bark all day. If you hear them so does the whole god damn neighborhood. This post is dedicated to Linda. Fuck you Linda!!! I fantasize every day that the continuous stream of ear piercing, high pitched barks will be cut short by the sound of one final screech because a hawk or fox finally let us all enjoy the nice weather. submitted by /u/vinditive to r/homeowners [link] [comments]

5 simple ways to stop dogs’ barking
Barking is a common type of communication of dogs. The reasons for dogs' barking include: FEELING SCARED Sometimes dogs bark because something startles them. FEELING BORED Dogs will bark since they feel bored or unhappy. FEELING LONELY Sometimes dogs will bark because they feel lonely. The dogs that have separation anxiety often bark excessively when left alone. ATTENTION SEEKING Dogs often bark because they want something or playing, even the touching from people. PROTECTING THEIR TERRITORY Dogs are very sensitive to their "territory". Once a person or an animal comes into this area, they usually bark. The barking often gets louder when the person or animal gets closer. GREETING Sometimes dogs bark because of greeting people or other animals. WHAT SHOULD I DO? IGNORING THE BARKING Your attention only rewards him for keeping barking. Shouting even stimulates your dog to bark more because he thinks you are playing or joining in. When your dog is barking, ignore him until he stops. Once he quiets, praise him or reward him with a treat. TEACHING YOUR DOG THE "QUIET" COMMAND You can say “Quiet” in a calm, firm voice when your dog is barking. When he stops barking, you can praise and reward him. TIRING YOUR DOG Dogs should get enough exercise every day. A tired dog is a quiet dog. If your dog often barks when alone, keep him tired before you go. Then they are less likely to bark from boredom or frustration. DISCOURAGE YOUR DOG FROM BARKING AT OTHERS When your dog barks at another person or animal, stop him and take him far away immediately. After he stops barking, reward him. PROVIDING SOMETHING FOR YOUR DOG WHEN YOU LEAVE You can provide more activities and companionship, or leave out some dog toys to keep your dog from being lonely or bored. These can keep him busy for several hours and they may not get bored or lonely and stop barking. WHAT SHOULD NOT DO? Muzzle, debarking can be dangerous to your dog. Some dogs can even regain their voices after debarking. Read the full article and learn more dog training tips here submitted by /u/coronavirus-master to r/reactivedogs [link] [comments]
