WIBTA for putting a password on my dorm Wi-Fi that only I pay for?
So I live in this typical university dorm where the official campus internet is basically a joke. It is slow, blocks half the gaming servers, and dies the moment everyone starts streaming Netflix at 8 PM. Three months ago I decided to take matters into my own hands and got a private 5G router with a decent unlimited plan. It was not cheap but for me it is a necessity because I do some freelance coding and I need to be able to play Dota without 300 ping spikes. When I first set it up my two roommates asked if they could connect just to check their mail or whatever. I figured why not since we are all broke students and I wanted to be a good guy. I told them it was fine but asked them not to go crazy with huge downloads. For a week it was okay then I started noticing the speeds dropping hard. I checked the admin panel and saw that not only were my roommates connected but there were like five other devices I did not recognize. Turns out they gave the password to their friends from the room next door because those guys were complaining about the lag in some mobile shooter. I asked them to stop sharing it and they just shrugged saying that internet should be free and we are all in this together. Yesterday I was trying to finish a project for a client and the connection was crawling because someone was downloading a 60GB update for some game. I got fed up and changed the password without saying anything. Ten minutes later the complaints started. They called me a gatekeeper and said I was being a selfish prick for hogging the bandwidth when I could clearly afford it. One of them even had the audacity to say that since the router is in a common area I do not have the right to lock people out of it. I told them if they want the password they can split the monthly bill with me but they refused saying they are too broke for that. Now the whole floor thinks I am some kind of elitist tech guy who hates his peers. I am just tired of paying for everyone else to watch TikTok while my own work suffers. I honestly do not see why I should provide a free service for people who do not even respect my one rule about sharing. My roommates are barely talking to me now and the vibe in the room is just trash. Am I really the asshole for wanting what I paid for? I am literally just trying to survive the semester without my grades or my freelance income tanking because of some random guys in the next room using my data for free. submitted by /u/BrindleHex to r/WIBTA_AITA [link] [comments]

WIBTA If I refused to switch dorms with a girl who was autistic?
So basically, I go to an almost Montessori boarding school, where the students get to choose their own dorms and roommates. I have what most people would agree to be the best dorm. This is because the way our dorms are set up, every dorm that is made for two people has a bathroom in it and is bigger than the singles, and single dorms don't have bathrooms and have to share a communal bathroom with three other single dorms. Apperentaly around 3 years before I got to my dorm, multiple people complained that my dorm was too small for 2 people, so the school just made it a single. It was too small because it's next to the laundry room. I chose this room because I have a family friend who told me about it. And because of the way the boarding is set up, I'm going to the same room, just a floor up, every year. So, where the problem starts is that a girl transferred to our school this year, and is autistic. The school has rooms for people who have disabilities, however, I've never been in one of them. Before spring break, she knocked on my door and asked if we could talk. She basically asked if we could switch dorms (but not really, because I don't qualify for a disability dorm) because my dorm would be better adjusted for her, becasue its close to the laundry room, has a window that faces the quad, etc. I feel bad, because she said that she lives out of state, and has to spend all weekends and smaller breaks on campus, whereas I live pretty close by and frequently go to my own house, basically whenever I want. And because she is also new and doesn't have many friends on campus, she's also probably gonna spend a lot of time in the dorm. I talked to my school before break, and they said I don't have to do it, but if I wanted to, I could be switched to an open single on campus. I really love my dorm and don't want to switch, but I feel like I would be a dickhead if I don't, so WIBTA? Edit/Update I came back on campus today, and saw the girl in the cafeteria, I already emailed her saying that I wasn’t going to switch dorms, but I wanted to talk to her face to face. I want it to be very clear that she wasn’t trying to guilt trip me, she just asked because as many of you said in the comments “closed mouths don’t get fed”. I also want to add that when she initially asked to trade/switch dorms she had good explanation for each reason I put in the original post, I just forgot to add it/ don’t really know how to word them (lol). Please don’t spread any more ableist comments on this post, she is very kind and sweet, and was NOT weaponizing her autism. She is going to stay in her original dorm, which she says is perfectly fine for her. submitted by /u/VlCTORlATHEGREAT to r/AmItheAsshole [link] [comments]

I saved thousands of dollars by sneaking into the dorm cafeteria for food.
During my freshman and sophomore years, I was on an athletic scholarship and food was included. My junior year I tore my ACL and stopped playing and lost my meal plan. I was essentially on my own. No support from my single mom and dad wasn’t in the picture at all. I got a job on campus and that covered my rent, fuel, books and tuition. I had no extra money for food or extra curricular activities. My on campus job had a fat stack of free mini pizza coupons from Pizza Hut. I took every single one of them and had a mini pizza every day for about 3 months. I also would sneak into the dorm cafeteria to eat lunch. I would wait for it to get real crowded and while a large group of students would gather to swipe their meal cards to enter, I would try to blend in and I’d walk right in. I did this a few times a week for two years. I remember thinking that if I got caught I’d play the victim card and basically make the argument that I was a literally a starving student. I saved thousands of dollars in food. Saved me. submitted by /u/tanlinesoutside to r/confession [link] [comments]

The number of Asian beetles I have to catch every night in my college dorm room.
I caught more after these photos. They fall on me while I'm sleeping and I wake up because of them. This dorm has had many issues with infestations: paper wasps, spotted geckos (very few actually, I've seen maybe 6 a semester), Asian beetles, the other dorms have issues with cockroaches as well. When you complain you get "it's an old building" "they're insects we can't stop where insects go" "it's part of living" In fact the wasp infestation was only (partly) addressed after someone who is allergic was stuck in a room with a major infestation. submitted by /u/NeferyCauxus to r/mildlyinfuriating [link] [comments]

Currently I've got a 17 year old, only one bedroom, sleeping in their parent's room instead. Another kid is in their own room, in the children's dorm. They value family about the same. The one sleeping in the children's dorm has a "Modest Quarters", one of their parents has "Quarters" which is one step up, and the other parent has "Decent Quarters", which is one step even higher.
