Main difference is the PPA approval. This paddle is officially approved for tourneys. While aliexpress offers good value, they aren't allowed for strict comptitive play. It may be difficult to participate in DUPR events (ranked) ones if you start to get more into it.

When a club officially adopts using DUPR, does the feel of the club become more competitive and lose the casual feel?
The club I go to is relatively new and roughly separates people by DUPR ratings, but nothing is checked nor tracked. They are thinking of making DUPR ratings mandatory for social play. I'm wondering if this kills the casual feel of social play, forcing people to take every game too seriously? submitted by /u/Delverton to r/Pickleball [link] [comments]

DUPR Reset (for science...)
Yeah...so I don't mind blowing $35 for science. Currently a 3.998 with 100% reliability. I think its pretty close to my actual performance (as much as I want to think of myself as a 4.25). So for science, the entertainment of this reddit, and my own entertainment I just blew 34.99 on RESET. Tomorrow I play in a 4.0 50+ tournament in Phoenix with a partner who is a 3.4 with low reliability. I'll dutifully update this reddit on how my real and reset dupr perform after tomorrow. You guys can thank me later~ UPDATE - Added the first update after tournament 1 below. submitted by /u/nickb411 to r/Pickleball [link] [comments]

Why are people so obsessed with DUPR?
It’s an arbitrary number. Why are you guys so obsessed with it? Here is a thought. Play more, drill more, win more, play more tournaments, have more laughs, make more friends. All things that are way more productive than obsessing over DUPR. The fact that some tournaments use not reporting to DUPR as a selling point is telling. The only reason I even have a DUPR is to get into some gated open play. submitted by /u/Rockboxatx to r/Pickleball [link] [comments]

DUPR Purgatory
Just a vent. DUPR is so ridiculous.. My DUPR rating history; '3.5 Mens Doubles' -- lost in playoffs 1st round. Unrated -> 3.3x DUPR '3.0 Mixed Doubles' -- 4th place/10 teams. Got blown out 2 games (my wife is very new, unrated previously) 3.3x -> 2.55 DUPR '3.5 Men's Doubles' -- won every match, a few by a wide margin, 1st place/8 teams 2.55 -> 2.82 DUPR I did play my first singles event (3.5) this weekend and won that with no losses. That put me at a respectable 3.6x Singles DUPR I've been playing pickleball for a few years. Love it. Finally switched from basic rec play on hardwood to a real pickleball club. DUPR open play at my club starts at 3.5+ so I'm stuck until I shell out $60 for a DUPR reset soon. Thanks for your time fellow addicts. submitted by /u/LordGuapo to r/Pickleball [link] [comments]

Dupr just lost my respect with dupr reset.
My post history has clearly defended dupr as I’ve always viewed them as empirically sound and largely unbiased. Dupr is offering a period to reset your dupr score next month and if you do poorly you can return to your old score (a no lose situation as they put it). I can’t begin to explain what a horrible idea this is from legitimate ranking system and takes away all of their credibility. Again I’ve defending their algorithm time after time for the most part. But moves like this are very unprofessional and clearly shows their priorities are not about giving accurate ratings but trying to get the most people to join and come back. Dupr needs to admit their mistake and stop this ridiculous promotion. Oh and did I mention they are charging money to do it? Someone needs to be fired or step down for this. The stupidity of DUPR
Someone explain to me how I can play a game with a partner who is basically identical in DUPR rating to me (Me 3.984, him 3.987), win with him 11-3 and yet my rating goes up +0.022 while his goes up +0.055. Both our reliability scores are 100%. Our opponents are also at 100% reliability with DUPR of 4.064 and 4.106. submitted by /u/DPCOriental to r/Pickleball [link] [comments]

Team walks away from tournament game to avoid a loss on their DUPR
A friend of mine played in a tournament this weekend. They played a team in round robin play and beat them handily. Then in single elimination bracket play (playoffs), those two teams were matched up against each other again, but the team that got beat in RR play just up and left instead of playing. The TD called them when they couldn't find them and the team said they weren't going to win that game so they didn't want to play and left. Now... besides having a really shitty "if we can't win we don't want to play" attitude... what can the tournament director do here? I know that if a team has to take a FFT due to injury before the game has started (or for various other reasons), the games are often not entered into DUPR. BUT... can a TD enter that game as a 11-0 FFT in DUPR if a team just doesn't want to play? It seems to me (my opinion) if they gave THAT as a reason, then it should absolutely be entered into DUPR. What are the TD's options here? Do they have any? submitted by /u/cprice12 to r/Pickleball [link] [comments]

Feeling superior ugh 😫
So ayun nagtry ako mag-dupr event last week. Been partnered with this one guy na uber serious. Hindi siya mahilig magpaddle tap at parang galit pagnagkakamali ako. When in fact siya nga halos cause ng error at points ng opponent. Siya pa may gana magturo at maglecture sakin during the game. Ang ending natalo kami sa match na yun. Okay naman lahat ng nakalaro ko bukod sa kanya. Tas after nun, nakalaban ko siya 3 times at natalo siya in all those games. Ending parang 2 games lang napanalo niya, not to brag naka 7 wins naman ako. Super willing naman ako makinig lalo na kung veteran players pero pag ganto kakawalang gana kalaro. Wag gawing personality sana yung pickleball. submitted by /u/Pretty_Tap_6009 to r/PickleballPhilippines [link] [comments]

Why do you care about DUPR?
There seems to be this weird, borderline obsession, with DUPR rating. I don't understand, why does anyone that's not pro (or trying to be pro) really care? I get the general benefit of a rough estimate to set competitive matches and tournaments, but beyond that, does it actually matter? Am I missing something, or is it really just "want bigger number", "I'm better than person (x), ego? submitted by /u/Physical_Relief4484 to r/Pickleball [link] [comments]

What DUPR level are we playing at?
5 of us that work together have been playing once a week for about a year, but have never played 'competitively' outside our own group of 5. We're interested in signing up for a tournament, what level would you recommend we enter at? 3.5, 4.0 or 4.5? YouTube Mirror We primarily play a more banger style as there's a lot of tennis background... any suggestions from watching these assorted points? Admittedly this is a collection of points from one session that I 'favorited' using my watch on swingvision, so you won't see missed serves and terrible points of which there are certainly some. First time using swingvision, and it's pretty cool though it doesn't work great for in/out calls. submitted by /u/ljump12 to r/Pickleball [link] [comments]

Anybody who doesn’t like DUPR’s update is either bad at math or overrated.
If you haven’t heard, DUPR updated its algorithm so that you can lose rating if your win is by a smaller margin than expected. (And, your rating can go up if you outperform expectation) For example, if you are 4.0 and you give up more than 5 points to a 3.5 player, your rating will go down. (And the 3.5 will go up) I hate to break it to you, but if that happens to you frequently enough that it matters to you you aren’t a 4.0 and your rating SHOULD drop DUPR is not a trophy for wins. It is a rating tool, meant to accurately measure your skill level relative to others. Now, if you frequently play up, your rating won’t dip. If you sandbag, you won’t benefit. And if you are playing around your level and you’re accurately rated — guess what! Nothing will happen to you! Everybody will be more accurately rated, quicker. Everyone should be happy about this update. This is simply better math, and everyone will benefit. All of you guys complaining in the comments because you don’t want your score to go down when you win is the reason why DUPR took so long to create a proper working algorithm to begin with. submitted by /u/GarlicAltruistic5357 to r/Pickleball [link] [comments]

DUPR Algorithm Update: Win or Lose, Your Rating Can Go Up

I'll explain how DUPR works and how to increase it
First, it’s important to understand that DUPR works with limited information. If you’re playing doubles and your team wins, DUPR doesn’t know who contributed more to that win, you or your partner. The same goes for the opposing team. It doesn’t know who played poorly or if the loss should be equally shared. So what does it do? It uses reliability scores. Let’s say your reliability score is 100% at a 4.0 rating. You partner with someone new to DUPR who has a low reliability score. You play against a strong 5.0 team where both players have high reliability. You end up winning 11–3. DUPR will give most of the credit (and rating) to your partner. Why?! Because it knows you’re a 4.0 confidently. However, it doesn’t know your partner (low reliability score). So it assumes your partner is really good and carried the team. Right or wrong, DUPR has to work with what it’s got and that’s all it knows. You might have been drilling daily and finally found a partner at your level. Maybe you carried that match. But DUPR has no way to tell. So, with this knowledge, how do you increase your DUPR? Find someone underrated by DUPR as a partner. Someone who has a high reliability score, but lower DUPR than they should be. This will happen for various reasons. The person could have had weak partners in "DUPR" leagues, or never had a consistent teammate. Remember, DUPR is the best estimation of your skills. It doesn’t define your skills. When you get good at pickleball, you’ll develop at eye to know who is underrated/overrated because it doesn’t matter what their DUPR rating is, you can see their skills for yourself. At the end of the day. I actually like DUPR because I think it’s the best we can do with the amount of information it has. If you have a high reliability score, it’s rarely more than 0.5 wrong on your rating. Probably +-0.25 on average. Anyways , hope that shed some light on DUPR. submitted by /u/driven20 to r/Pickleball [link] [comments]

Paul’s DUPR
Not only did he “not have a good weekend” he lost every single match. He got trashed by people who aren’t even actual pro pickle ball players (one was technically pro level and has played in a few pro tournaments). They weren’t even all higher rated than him and his partner. My husband plays pickle ball as a hobby because he was injured by playing tennis for 10+ years throughout his adolescence and because we have two girls with one on the way and he’s an extremely active and involved husband and father. Going pro costs nearly $30k a year in equipment, fees, and traveling. It’s not happening for Paul because he’s too old and too poor. submitted by /u/andshewillbe to r/FundieSnarkUncensored [link] [comments]
