Are e-bikes a viable option for someone with 600 CAD budget MAX who will SPORADICALLY use it for commuting?
Hey everyone, I live in Québec, Canada and would like to get an e-bike. Since I work in different spots of the city, every now and then my commute gets to 10-15 km for two or three weeks. Public transport is unreliable and tiresome in these situations. Figured an e-bike would be better than a regular bike as it would allow me to not tire myself in these situations. I would use it sporadically, for commuting temporarily, and not for general leisure/sports - that I leave for my regular old bike. It can be weeks between one "e-bike utilisation" spur and another. I'm on the poorer end so investing anything beyond 600-700 CAD is not viable for me. For such reasons I've been checking crappy Amazon, Walmart, Bestbuy brands or used FB Marketplace options. I suppose I could change some parts should the necessity arise, but ideally, I can't also afford having a 300-400 CAD bill every month to repair/change parts. Given this description, do you guys think an e-bike would be a viable choice in my case? Otherwise, I am considering getting an electric scooter instead - it's shittier, but at least it's cheaper. TL;DR - Is it viable to buy a cheap e-bike to get around minimally? The e-bike equivalent of a cheap 50 bucks "good enough" bike that gets you from point A to point B every few weeks, and not a bike you can rely on no matter what. For reference, here is some brand new e-bikes that are popping up to me in this price range: Phoenix Step Over 5th Wheel Askgo Thanks! submitted by /u/Luqueasaur to r/bicycling [link] [comments]

Best E bikes for under 1.5k?
I am considering purchasing my first e bike as a teen, I normally ride go kart predator 212 and Honda builds, etc. I would prefer not to buy something over 1.5k and have been looking at 4 different bikes at the moment, which of these 4 is considered the best? Forest Service Clarifies National eBike Policy: What It Means for Riders in North Georgia
The U.S. Forest Service has finalized updated directives on how e‑bikes are managed across national forests and grasslands. These updates don’t automatically open new trails, but they do clarify how e‑bikes fit into existing travel management rules and how future access decisions will be made. Electric Bicycle Use | US Forest Service What the Forest Service Updated The agency now formally recognizes e‑bikes as three classes of motor vehicles, aligning with the widely used Class 1–3 system. The directives explain how e‑bikes can be designated for use on specific roads, trails, and areas under the Travel Management Rule. Any expansion of e‑bike access requires environmental analysis and public involvement before a decision is made. What could change in the future Local Forest Service officials may consider opening non‑motorized trails or areas to e‑bikes, but only through a formal designation process. That process must include: Environmental review Public engagement Local decision‑making Compliance with the Travel Management Rule This means any new access will be decided district by district, not nationally. Why the Forest Service made these changes The agency cites several factors: Growing public interest in e‑bikes Increased use of national forests by older adults and new recreation users The need to manage changing technology while protecting natural and cultural resources Desire for consistent policy across shared boundaries with other federal agencies The Forest Service states that e‑bikes can expand access in a socially and ecologically responsible way when managed appropriately. What do you think? How do you think North Georgia districts should approach future e‑bike access? Are there specific forest roads, connector trails, or recreation areas where expanded access would make sense? submitted by /u/Automatic-Cicada3213 to r/NorthGeorgiaEbikes [link] [comments]

Is an e-bike actually worth it for daily commuting?
I’m a 32 y/o nurse doing 12-hour shifts, about 8 miles from the hospital. I’m getting real tired of paying for gas and fighting for parking at 6am, so I’m seriously thinking about getting an electric bike for adults to turn my commute into something less miserable (and maybe sneak in some exercise without showing up drenched in sweat). I want something comfy and upright, step-thru frame if possible, that can handle crappy city roads, a couple of short but steep hills, and occasional rain. I’m 5'6"", not super techy, and I’d like it to be easy to assemble and maintain. Budget is around $1.2–1.5k, but I could stretch a bit if it’s really worth it for reliability and warranty. For folks who commute similar distances: do you actually end up riding most days, or does the novelty wear off? Any models you’d recommend or avoid? Also, what should I prioritize more: motor power, battery size, or components/comfort? submitted by /u/Life-Strategy4490 to r/ebikes [link] [comments]

Help Choosing Replacement Wheel for TotGuard Electric Bike
Hey guys, the front tire of my e-bike was recently stolen and I am looking to replace the front wheel and add an anti theft wheel locking skewer. I've linked the bike model, so anyone can check it out. I've found this 26 x 1.5" replacement wheel on amazon, but am unsure if I can use this on my bike. Also, I was planning on recycling an old disk brake instead of buying a new one, but I am also unsure about this. Looking for e-bike recommendations for a 12-year-old — what should we get and what to avoid?
Update: Thank you all. I appreciate everyone's feedback. I looked up the state law and see that the minimum age for e-bikes is 16+. Thank you again for chiming in. I was completely unaware of local ordinances and restrictions. Hey Reddit — I’m on the hunt for an e-bike for my kid (around 12 years old). They’ve ridden electric scooters before, but this will be their first real e-bike, and I want to make sure I pick something safe, practical, and reliable. I’d love suggestions and recommendations — especially from parents or riders who’ve gone this route with a kid. ✅ What I’m hoping the “ideal” kid-friendly e-bike will have A frame and geometry that actually fits a smaller rider — nothing too giant or unwieldy. Good brakes (disc — ideally hydraulic; or at least strong mechanical discs) so stopping is predictable and safe. A moderate motor / battery, not a full-power adult e-bike — enough for fun rides or short commutes, but not absurd speed or range. A battery/electronics system that’s (reasonably) safe and reliable — I’d prefer something from a recognized e-bike brand with proper certification instead of a no-name, drop-ship special. Decent warranty and access to spare parts / repair support — so if something breaks or wears out (motor, wiring, controller, brakes, etc.) there’s someone I can reach for help or replacement parts. ❓ What I’m trying to avoid — and want opinions on Generic “Amazon-brand” e-bikes or no-name brands with unknown reliability. Heavy “adult-style” e-bikes that may be overpowered or awkward for a younger rider. Poorly made brakes, cheap batteries or controllers, or bikes with custom/proprietary parts that are hard to service. Bikes with little to no after-sales support or warranty coverage. 🤔 What I’m looking for from the community If you’ve bought an e-bike for a kid (or were a kid on an e-bike), I’d love to hear: What brand or model you went with — and how well it’s held up so far. What you like about it (fit, ease of control, maintenance, reliability, etc.). What issues you ran into (repair problems, parts availability, battery/motor problems, fitting issues, safety concerns). What you’d do differently if you had to choose again — or what you wish you’d known before buying. Also — if you know of specific brands or models that are good (or should be avoided), please share. I’m open to new bikes, used bikes (if they meet safety/condition guidelines), or even suggestions for where to shop (local bike shops, reputable online stores, etc.). Thanks in advance for any help, experiences, or advice you can share. I want to make the best decision for a first-time kid e-biker. submitted by /u/Dull-Lion5914 to r/ebikes [link] [comments]

Are 3-Wheeler Electric Bikes Actually Safe for 4–5 Year Old Kids?
So I was looking into 3 wheeler bikes for my grandchildren as present for christmas this year and came across 3 wheeler electric bikes which quite frankly I had never heard of. When we had kids growing up we would by big wheelers for them, I think everyone can remember those plastic bikes and how popular they were, they were really the best three wheeler bikes for kids on the market. So I did some research on these and found that there are some mixed reviews about safety, they are pretty cool they have LED Lights, music players, bright colors and go not so fast but just fast enough, around 5 to 8 km/hr. Some of the ones I saw on Alibaba and Amazon even had parental controls, I am thinking I should definitely get something that has parental control with it. They are clearly used for introductory ride-on vehicles rather than real e-bikes but even with low speed the main safety consideration still apply. A child around for to five years of age is still developing balance, reaction timea nd spatial awsareness. If they panic or press the throttle suddenly it can still tip the bike or bump into obstacles. The biggest concern I have seen parents discuss is supervision, kids at this age should not ride in open spaces without an adult right beside them. Proper protective gear especially a helmet is very important which I intend to buy with the bikes, I am just wondering how safe are these really? I need some real reviews, because the last thing I want to do is purchase something like these for them and then their parents are like nope, not safe. I hate when they do that, the kids are between the ages of 4 and 6 and here is the link of what I was looking at. submitted by /u/TennisFan4evernever to r/daddit [link] [comments]
