O.P. My original foam eartips for the Sony XM4 earbuds are disintegrating. I am seeking recommendations for replacing them. I believe the XM5 eartips are compatible with the XM4 so XM5 recommendations are also sought. They don't have to be foam so long as the ANC isn't impacted.

Heavy Brooklyn NY accent here as well ... Are you using earbuds or talking directly to the phone? I've found that some earbuds make the stt even worse.. If you're talking directly into the phone than maybe switch to Google stt.. Otherwise... Fughedaboudit

Hello, I’m thinking to buy earbuds and I’m overwhelmed with options. I mostly use them for commutes listening to podcasts and music and I want something that fits well. I used to be a die hard headphone lover back in 2015 but I switched to wireless earbuds in 2020 and never looked back until last month when I lost my Oneplus Buds 3 Pro so I started using a pair of sony XM4 over ear headphones that were gifted to me. Even though the Sonys are older, I think this is a fair comparison because you can find both of them used on the market right now for around 150 dollars. This post is for the average person who listens to music while commuting or uses it for social media, etc. Basically, not for the pros who need headphones for work as I do realize they NEED headphones. After a month of using the Sonys, I am genuinely confused why people STILL prefer headphones for daily use. Earbuds have a clean small form factor and they just disappear when you put them in the case. Headphones are always taking up space in a bag or sitting on your neck which is a lot more difficult to deal with throughout the day. If I just wanna listen to a quick voice note or watch a reel in public, it's significantly easier to just put earbuds in your ears than taking the big bulky headphones and turning them on and then off again. Even comparing the OnePlus Buds to a friend's newer and more expensive XM5, I felt like the noise canceling and transparency on my OP buds were better. The sony app also feels pretty pathetic and dated compared to the modern UI on most of the other apps that come with other earbuds in the same category, like Nothing. Earbuds are also better in the gym and offer more versatility overall but I realized the only place the XM4 wins is aesthetics. They are instantly recognizable and look good but that feels like a social thing rather than a functional one. I can't find a single scenario where I prefer the functionality of the XM4 over the buds. So what am I missing? I want your best arguments for headphones because I really want to find a reason to use these more. Edit: it seems like this was not the correct subreddit to ask this question. Judging by the comments, I have hurt a lot of people's sentiments just by comparing earbuds to headphones, which was never my intention. I never meant to attack or offend anyone by this comparison. I was just genuinely curious, as an ex-headphone lover, why average people I see on the bus, on the train, or during my commute still use headphones over earphones. Every now and often people ask for the "best" earbuds on here. There isn't a single best pair, BUT there are definitely some earbuds which you could consider the best value. I'm a huge sound enthusiast myself, so I decided to make a no-bullshit tier list with details about each. Oh also, I wrote this entirely myself! No SlopGPT used or anything. I've tried a lot of those over the years, so this post is mostly my personal opinion!! Also note that this tier list is based on VALUE aka bang for the buck. S Tier - best bang for the buck $199 - Apple AirPods Pro 3 are literally the best noise cancelling earbuds ever measured. If you don't have an iPhone, you'll miss out on a lot of their features, so keep that in mind. $79 - OnePlus Buds 4 - doesn't do anything amazing but does everything VERY well, which is honestly more useful day-to-day. $75 - The EarFun Air Pro 4+ are a VERY solid option for just $75. Long battery and sounds like something twice the price. Probably the most loved earbuds on this sub and for a reason lol. $49 - CMF Buds Pro 2 - there's a little dial on the case that controls volume and ANC and it's way more useful than it sounds. Great bass, good price, fun to use. A Tier - easy to recommend $249 - The Technics EAH-AZ100 are one of the best sounding earbuds i've come across, and the 10+ hour battery wipes the floor with every other flagship. if you care about music more than anything else, just get these. $79 - Soundcore Liberty 4 NC - the noise cancelling on these is insane for the price. They often go on sales so you can get them for even cheaper. $77 - Nothing Ear (2024) - sounds really clean and detailed if you're into that - it's not very bass-heavy though. $30 - JBL Vibe Beam - cheap, works, doesn't try to be anything it's not. Grab these if you just need something wireless and don't care about EQ or features. B Tier - good, but kinda expensive $298 - Sony WF-1000XM6 - the best do-everything earbuds if you're on Android - premium sound and tons of settings to mess with. They're quite expensive though. $249 - Beats Powerbeats Pro 2 - one of the best premium choices for any kind of sports or working out. Sound doesn't match price, but they won't fall off your ears. A cheaper alternative is the Soundcore Aerofit. C Tier - situational $249 - Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 4 - those have some Sennheiser-specific problems if I remember correctly, only worth it if you actually notice the difference between good and great audio. $299 - Bose QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds (2nd Gen) - 6 hours of battery at this price is rough, and the sound is very bass-heavy which isn't for everyone. --- I'm mostly using the Technics nowadays though. Update: OP here coming back to share what I ended up with after my old pair finally gave out. My case was also held together with tape so I feel you there. After reading through the comments and looking at what's actually available I grabbed a pair from Walmart and they've been solid for everything. The fit is secure enough for runs which was my main worry and the noise cancellation blocks out train noise way better than I expected for the price. Sound quality is surprisingly good for indie and electronic stuff, bass is there without drowning out the mids. Someone in the thread mentioned multipoint connectivity and yeah these switch between my phone and laptop without any hassle. Battery lasts all week with daily use too. If you're still searching for the best wireless earbuds 2026 has to offer and don't want to drop insane money on the big names, these are worth a look.
