AITA for arguing with my MIL about my husband’s feelings for spaghetti?
(Throw away acct bc my mil follows my real one) My husband and I (both 25) were visiting my MIL’s house for dinner this evening. After dinner, my husband offered to drive his youngest sister to a friend’s house so that MIL could stay home after cooking. While he was out, MIL, SIL and I sat around in the living room chatting. SIL is preparing to move out on her own soon, and was asking about any easy to cook dinner recipes I had. One of the things I brought up was spaghetti. When I said that, MIL chuffed and asked if I only make that when DH is working late. I was confused and told her no. She said “well, he doesn’t like spaghetti. That’s why I asked.” Again, I was confused. I told her that he likes it now, enough to request that I make it decently often. To that, she said “is it maybe your favorite thing to make and he knows it? Is that why he asks?” At this point I started to get a little annoyed, because I could feel it going in the direction that she isn’t a stranger to, which is the “I’ll always know more about my son than you” sort of thing. So, where I would usually just shrug and say idk to keep the peace, I decided I would push back this time. I told her that every time I make spaghetti, he polishes off over half of it that night, and left overs don’t last either. Then, MIL turned to SIL and said “you remember how much he hates spaghetti. He would practically gag over it.” To which SIL shrugged and said “maybe he changed his mind.” And MIL went on to say “no, I know him. He’s stubborn about tastes.” So I asked MIL if she thought I was lying about him liking spaghetti, and she rolled her eyes and asked me if this was the hill I wanted to die on. To which, I said that she was welcome to ask him once he got back. She shook her head and told me there was no need for her to ask. That she knew her son and she would know the answer. After that, conversation faded and we all sort of just got on our phones. Until, my husband walked back into the house, and the first thing I said was “hey babe, do you like spaghetti?” And of course, he said yes in a confused tone. I gestured my hand to him and looked at my MIL and said “see?” And she got up and said “I gotta do something” and went back to her room and did not come back out until we left. On our way home, I explained the spaghetti thing to my husband, which he honestly did not care about. He’d just asked why I asked. But about an hour ago, MIL sent my husband a big text about how I was rude and telling her that he only likes my spaghetti because I’m a better cook than her (which I did not say.) So, AITA for arguing it? Does it make me childish, even though I was a little fed up with the whole song and dance? submitted by /u/Spiritual-Piccolo535 to r/AmItheAsshole [link] [comments]

Complaining that “easy” recipes are too much effort
Those easy, quick, 30 minute, weeknight dinner recipes are always flooded with comments saying, “This isn’t a simple recipe, I have to chop an onion!” Like oh my god, what more do you want from a recipe that’s both home cooked AND easy? These one pot/pan, 30 minute recipes are about as simple as home-cooking can get without resorting to a microwave meal. These chefs do the best than can to make a recipe that’s as low-effort, homemade, and tasty as possible, but they aren’t magic, they can’t make it literally ZERO labor. If you want to cook for yourself, you’re gonna have to lift a finger, it’ll require SOME effort. Not at all shaming people who are too exhausted to make a homemade meal, I’m that person most nights, but why complain that the people who make these easy recipes are lying about their simplicity? They made home cooking about as easy and accessible as they could! submitted by /u/fruit_enjoyer to r/PetPeeves [link] [comments]

What’s your easy “go to” weeknight recipe for a busy family?
Long story short, I was recently widowed suddenly, leaving me with two children aged 11 and 16. My husband used to do all of the cooking, but we never do a big shop because he liked to make it up on the fly and went shopping for individual ingredients most days. I do all the household stuff like cleaning and washing etc. He didn’t follow recipes, he just knew what went with what. But, to be honest, a lot of it was processed, he cooked from scratch a couple of times a week. He was a shift worker so daily shopping suited him, it’s not something I particularly want to do though. We are currently staying with my parents while we come to terms with our new situation but when we get home, obviously I need to up my game in the kitchen, and eat a LOT healthier because I need to stay well for them. They both do various clubs and I’m a teacher so I’m looking for healthy and quick midweek dinner ideas for when I’m getting in at 5 and one of the kids has to be at gym or football or whatever at 7. Without judgment, can I please ask for your go to recipes? The one thing we don’t really eat is seafood, pretty much anything else goes. Easy dinner ideas that kids will actually eat without a fight?
I’m a mom in my early 30s with two kids under 7, and I’m officially burned out on making dinner every night. I like cooking, but I’m stuck in that phase where everything I make is either “too weird,” “too spicy,” or suddenly unacceptable even though they ate it last week. I try to cook real meals and not rely on nuggets or boxed stuff all the time, but I’m running out of ideas that feel doable on a weeknight and don’t turn into a negotiation. What are your go-to dinners that your kids reliably eat, even on tired days? Bonus points if it’s something that doesn’t take a ton of prep or can be adjusted for adults without making a separate meal. I’m open to simple recipes, lazy shortcuts, or even just realistic expectations at this point. submitted by /u/beckyboo600 to r/Parenting [link] [comments]

I learned to make Turkish food for my husband ✨ what dish should I make next?
Hello everyone! It's been a year since I've posted and here's an update what I learned so far. In my previous post I've asked you guys to recommend me some dishes for me to learn. I have made most of it, there are still some in my list. Previous Post: https://www.reddit.com/r/Turkey/s/ZhjJzc3Dda All the recipes I followed are Turkish Youtubers, and then I had it translated in English. Thankgosh for chatgpt I used it to convert the recipes into grams. 😭 it really helped me so much. The glasses and tea cup wasn’t really accurate for me 😂 i am grams person. (I hope you guys are okay with my doodles ... I was really bored and wanted to doodle some of the photos. ) 1st Photo: Sarma (recipe is by my yenge) My yenge is known to make the best sarma in our family. I asked my yenge if she could teach me. I made it for my husband and then for my dad in law. My dad was really amazed and especially his friends haha It's quite easy to make, just the rolling takes a lot of time. 2nd photo: İskender (Sauce recipe by Hatay Sandik ici) There's a butchershop I really like to go and it's turkish owned. Thankfully they carry the meat there. I just followed the recipe by that youtuber. I cooked then grilled the meat afterwards. 3rd photo: Ramazan Pidesi (Recipe by HayalimdekiYemekler) I had great success with her Çiğ köfte recipe and her recipe looked the best for the pide. I really like it, it's very soft and it goes so well with the İskender. 4th photo: Kazandibi (Recipe by TarifSokagii) This is my 3rd attempt making Kazandibi. I also used vanilla bean I find using vanilla bean pods gives a nice vanilla flavor into the Kazandibi. I made this for my mom-IL & my brother-IL. I was so happy when I finally got that caramelize color I wanted. You can see in my previous post I made Kazandibi and It didn't look as nice as this one. I am so proud of myself with this. 5th photo: Sütlaç (Recipe by Sefaokyaykilic) I also added vanilla bean into this. I know it isn’t necessary. Mainly I find it gives a nice flavor than extract does. My husband really loved it as Sütlaç is his most favorite turkish dessert. 6-7th photo: Manti (recipe by Kırmızı Lezzetler) If you plan to make fresh manti at home! I really recommend this recipe. I did accidentally roll it a bit thinner than I wanted it > For the yoghurt sauce I did 1 minced garlic, pinch of salt, add little water to the yoghurt. For the buttery paprika sauce in a saucepot on low heat ~ I add 1tbsp Olive Oil, 1 tbsp of butter and 2 tbsp tomato paste and half a tbsp of paprika paste and 1tsp of pepper flakes and half of tea cup of water then mix. Heat until everything is combined. 8- 10th Photo: Yufka (recipe by Lezzetinn Adresi) Ispanakli Peynirli Börek (Recipe by Tadimiztuzumuz) Patates Börek (Recipe by Guzelyemektarifler3434) I made it before dinner time haha that's why I made kofte on the side. NGL yufka is the most challenging for me haha It took some time I do feel that I need more practice with the rolling technique so I can make baklava with fresh yufka next time. I also want to make sobiyet with it~ 11th Photo: Tavuk Tantuni (Recipe by Anteplifatosunmutfagi) Lavash (Recipe by HungryManKitchen) In my previous post I made tantuni using beef and a commenter suggest I also make a chicken one! I really like that it's also high protein haha I also made Süt mısır on the side. It was corn season that time. I simmered corn cob in a pot of milk for 7 mins and then grill it and coat it with melted butter. 12th Photo: Lahmacun (Recipe by HilalinMutfagi) This is my 4th attempt making Lahmacun. I always struggle making Lahmacun >.< !! This was the best I could do, I do want to keep trying. The taste is really good and the same as Lahmacun should. It’s just presentation is never how I want it to be. I think I did okay, but I want to try again until it also looks the same. 13th Photo: İçli köfte (Recipe Emine2015) A lot of you guys recommend this to me oh my goodness. It's really good I ate so much that day haha 14th Photo: Kuşbaşılı pide (recipe by GülMutfaktaa) In my previous post I made chicken + sucuk pide. I was recommend to use beef next time. My husband bought home steak for me and I made pide with it haha The texture of the pide was so crisp! I even filmed how crunchy it was. It was perfect. 15th Photo: İrmik helva dondurma (Recipe by Hatay Sandik ici) I do recommend to use less sugar if you plan to use his recipe for this. I made this with my sister in law and we added pistachios on top. The Maraş is storebought though. I do want to make my own icecream one day but I cannot find Salep anywhere >__< ;; 16th photo: Yozgat Arabaşı (recipe by Mileksuelinden) I get asked in my other social media why I made this. My Turkish neighbor made it for me once and then My uncleIL wife also made it for me when I visit my grandma IL. I find the dish so comforting and I really loved it. Thats why I wanted to learn it so bad 🤭✨ 17th Photo: Pastane Simit & Menemen (Recipe by Chef Oktay Usta) I orginally wanted to make Istanbul simit but once I baked it I realized it didn't look like it at all haha and not only that it was so soft and pillowy ~ so yeah.. haha It tasted it nice though! I made the menemen too much egg 😂 normally i never mess up because its so easy for this dish. I accidentally put too much egg 18th photo: Çiğ köfte is my most loved turkish dish for me haha I am so proud of it that I brought it over to my mom in law and my brothers to try. My dad also ate it all haha It really means a lot to see my family loving the turkish food I made for them. The recipe is also by HayalimdekiYemekler. I do suggest to put less spice than her recipe. Some may find it too spicy. ✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨ what dish should i make next? This is whats in my list so far. (Kayseri Yağlama, Su Böreği, Baklava with homemade Yufka, Adana Kebap, Çökertme Kebabı, Yayla Çorbasi, Mercimek .. ) Btw. my husband doesn’t like eggplant and beans haha i do get recommend to make eggplant a lot but only I will eat it haha I do want to make Kokoreç but the meat doesn’t exist in here haha i don’t think I can ever make it 🥹✨ A really random question: I have a family member visiting Türkiye. I want to buy more pure isolate whey. Isolate Whey cost a lot around 90 euros for 2500g. I want to ask if it’s cheaper to buy it in Türkiye and what website/brand that is good I can buy online? submitted by /u/pinkastrogrill to r/Turkey [link] [comments]

Beginner here — what are your really easy 15–30 minute dinners?
Hey — I’m new to cooking and want to stop relying on frozen chicken every night. I can heat things in the microwave, use a toaster oven, or cook on the stove. I already have waffles, lime Greek yogurt, and a couple Healthy Choice meals. Looking for simple dinners (15–30 minutes) that: use minimal ingredients, don’t need fancy tools, and are forgiving if I mess up. Examples I’d like: quick sheet-pan meals, simple stir-fries, or easy tacos. Bonus points if it uses frozen veggies or pre-cooked proteins. I made a surprisingly easy and delicious dinner — what are your favorite simple recipes?
I threw together a super simple dinner last night: garlic butter chicken thighs with roasted veggies and jasmine rice. Took about 30 minutes total, barely any cleanup, and it was so good I had to share. It got me wondering — what are your favorite low-effort, high-reward meals? Not fancy stuff, just honest, satisfying food that gets the job done after a long day. submitted by /u/Good_Mango7379 to r/DinnerIdeas [link] [comments]

I need your hot weather, quick, easy, no cook recipes please
I'm working 6 days a week ~60 hour weeks and my area is about to suffer through a "recording breaking heatwave" heat dome week of hell I need your quick, easy, cheap, filling, no cook dinner recipes. microwave is OK, I'm not opposed to heating up a veggie burger but I can't eat a hot meal like soup or anything. my kitchen is not air conditioned, the ac is only in my bedroom and the heat index is expected to be 108f on Monday, so I can't stress enough how I can not be cooking anything in that heat also any frozen dessert/smoothie recipes (or just something I can grab at the supermarket) suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I can't have too much sugar tho, it makes my tummy hurt submitted by /u/New_Stats to r/EatCheapAndVegan [link] [comments]

An easy dinner that hides Italian Sausage
Look, I love me some Italian Sausage. Truly. But I'm incredibly sick of it and all the usual things it does (e.g. various pasta recipes, sausage and pepper type dishes etc) and yet here we are with only Italian Sausage defrosted for dinner tonight. If I have to eat one more noodle I'm going to go crazy. What else can I put it in?? For the record I have the requisite spices, cheeses etc for a wide range of cuisines (chinese, korean, indian, most vietnamese, mexican etc). And a lot of other 'stock' ingredients so don't be afraid to suggest things that rely on other non 'staple' ingredients because I just might have them. submitted by /u/navelbabel to r/Cooking [link] [comments]

I’m sick of easy recipes. What’s something I can really spend some time and effort making?
I like cooking, spending time in the kitchen brings me solace. When you Google “dinner ideas” you’ll find page after page of “easy recipes” “one pan recipes” “quick recipes” but I want a challenge, dammit! Valentine’s Day is coming up. What dinner can I pour my heart and soul into for my partner and I? Maybe a dessert? An impressive hors d’oeuvre? UPDATE: for v-day we made cheesy squash tortellini with a sage and mushroom butter sauce, and for dessert we had poundcake soaked and lightly pan fried in a fruity booze/sugar mixture to get a caramelly crust and topped with homemade frozen custard mixed with that same booze (amaretto, frangelico, and chambord). I also bought Marcella Hazan’s cookbook and I’m very much looking forward to making her bolognese soon :) this comment section is an absolute blessing. submitted by /u/chxtterbox to r/Cooking [link] [comments]

I need some next-level easy recipes (like one hand required).
My 4 month old daughter is having open-heart surgery on Thursday. We’ll be in the hospital 1-2 weeks afterwards, but once we get home I’m going to have a hard time juggling everything on top of her medical complexities (I’ve got three other kids too and husband will have to go back to work). I know thing like DoorDash and cereal for dinner are options, but those can get expensive and/or boring really quick. I need REALLY easy ideas. Ones that have maybe 5 mins of prep, don’t dirty 6 pans, don’t have 37 ingredients and don’t require me to constantly stir and baby it for an hour at the stove. Example: whole chicken in a roasting pan. Slap whatever seasonings on top. Sprinkle baby carrots and potatoes around it (no chopping of anything is huge bonus). Cook for a couple hours. Serve over a couple packets of instant gravy. Boom. Done. Help me brainstorm some more? I know there’s google obviously, but most of those start with “dice an onion, 2 green peppers, and 3745 potatoes” and they already lost me lol. My 91yo Grandma's Chinese Cabbage Soup is SO easy to make! I want to preserve it with the world so her legacy isn't lost. Full recipe inside!
Hi, everyone! This recipe is dear to my heart because everytime I taste it, it reminds me of my Ma Ma. Chinese Cabbage Soup is very simple to put together and you'll only need a few ingredients, which is why it's perfect for a weeknight soup. You can see how the soup looks here. An Understated Yet Warm Experience Mum has always said that Grandma’s soups were the best. After almost three decades of enjoying many full bowls (and often seconds) for dinner, I can say that she’s 100% right. All of my favorite soups (lotus root, chicken feet, fish maw and watercress) have a few things in common: they’re humble, comforting and made with love. In my eyes, that makes a winning combo. But there’e just something about Grandma’s Chinese Cabbage Soup that makes my body cheer with barely contained excitement whenever I see it brewing on the stove. Maybe it’s the silky leafy green that all but melts in your mouth as soon as it touches your tongue. Maybe it’s the gentle savory undertones that have been unearthed from hours of slow simmering. Or maybe it’s the fact that such a simple soup will complement any dinner spread so that all you’re left with are great conversations around the family table! All About Chinese Cabbage (A.K.A. 'Siu Choy' In Cantonese) What Is It Chinese cabbage is a leafy vegetable that has a variety of names. In Australia, we sometimes call it ‘wombok’, but my Cantonese family has always referred to the green as siu choy (紹菜). You might also find it labelled as ‘napa cabbage’, which has Japanese origins. It is often sold at Asian supermarkets in large bulbs or halved and wrapped in plastic. When uncooked, it’s a firm pale vegetable with tender light green leaves. The leaves are connected by a firmer core which can also be eaten if cooked. Taste There isn’t much taste to siu choy but it’s a popular culinary choice in Asian cuisine because when it’s cooked with other ingredients, the leaves will absorb all the flavors. Under a quick high heat they will also retain their crunch, much like when you stir fry water spinach or mustard greens. The vegetable is great for soup stocks because of its natural sweetness. Mum always uses it to make a base stock for all her vegetarian recipes. Health Benefits You’ll be happy to know that wombok comes loaded with nutrients! For such a simple recipe, your family will enjoy the benefits of antioxidants and vitamins, including vitamins C and K. It’s also a natural source of potassium, iron, magnesium and calcium, which can assist with regulating bodily functions. Make these benefits a regular part of your family’s diet with a delicious and nutritious Chinese Cabbage Soup! The Recipe Prep Time: 25 minutes Cook Time: 30 minutes Stock Cooking Time: 3 hours 30 minutes (or used store-bought stock to save time) Total Time: 4 hours 25 minutes Servings: 8 Ingredients 6 L / 25 US cup chicken and pork stock 1/2 Chinese cabbage 3 carrots 1 tsp salt (or to taste) 1 tbsp chicken bouillon powder Instructions Quarter the Chinese cabbage, then remove the core that holds each leaf together. Gently separate each leaf into a colander. Optional: You can halve them along their length so that it cooks faster. It also helps with fitting into smaller pots. Soak the leaves in cold salted water for a few minutes, rinse them clean and repeat another 3 times to remove any impurities. When clean, let it drip dry in a colander. Peel and cut the carrots into slices roughly 1/2cm (0.2") thick. We like to cut ours at a diagonal, but this is completely optional. Bring the stock to a boil and add the carrots, Chinese cabbage, salt and chicken bouillon powder in. Let it simmer on low-medium heat for 20 minutes or until soft. Serve hot as is! EDIT: I realized I didn't put the instructions for how to make Ma Ma's homemade stock! Here it is: Ingredients (Any Variation Of These) 1 free range old hen 500 g / 1.1 lb lean pork meat 500 g / 1.1 lb chicken backs 1 kg / 2.2 lb chicken bones/carcass 1 kg / 2.2 lb pork bones 7 1/2 L / 31.7 US cup water (the water will evaporate and cook down for a more concentrated chicken and pork flavor for the stock) Instructions Set a pot of water to boil and wash the chicken and/or pork. Throw the meat and bones in when you’re done (the water doesn’t have to be boiling) and bring it to almost a boil. Note: You’ll notice a lot of scum floating. Don’t worry about skimming it just yet. This pot of water will be discarded. Pour the contents of the pot into the sink then thoroughly wash the all the meat and bones. Pro Tip: If you have pork bones, Grandma uses the flat parts to rub them together under running water. The more thoroughly you clean, the clearer the liquid will be. In the meantime, fill a clean pot with 7 1/2 L (31.7 US cup) water and bring it to a boil. Make sure there is enough to cover the chicken and pork once it’s put inside. After the wash, the bones should have less scum. Put all the chicken and pork into the boiling water a second time. It will stop bubbling (depending on the heat of your stove), but make sure to bring it back to a boil. Once it reaches that point, lower the heat to a gentle simmer and keep the pot lid partially on. Simmer for a minimum of 3 hours, skimming the scum every half an hour. Note: If you would like to add any aromatics like spring onions, ginger or you favorite seasoning, you can do so now for the first layer of flavor. Otherwise, do that step towards the end after the simmering is done. Optional: Leave the pot in the fridge overnight. The next day, bring the pot back out and reheat it again on a low simmer for a few more hours. submitted by /u/WokandKin to r/Cooking [link] [comments]

My 91yo Grandma's Braised Chicken Wings and Mushrooms is pure comfort food! It's super easy, which is why she used to make it regularly for family weeknight dinners. I've had it for over 20 years now and I STILL love it to this day. Full recipe inside!
Hi everyone! Seven years ago, I made a promise to myself to learn as many of my 84yo Grandma's Chinese and Vietnamese recipes as I could. She's now 91 and it has been so rewarding to cook her dishes for the family (and get her nod of approval too)! When I first learnt how to cook Grandma's Cantonese and Vietnamese recipes, she did all the cooking while I frantically scribbled down notes and learnt how to guesstimate her measurements because, as she always said, "If you have a larger plate, use more. If you have a smaller plate, use less." But these days, she doesn't cook anymore, so when I cook using her recipes, it really hits home every time I eat it. Fast forward to 2022, I want to celebrate my memories of my 91yo Ma Ma's Braised Chicken Wings and Mushrooms. You can see how the dish looks here. My Favorite Cantonese Side Dish I’ve never known a dish I’ve loved more than Grandma’s Braised Chicken Wings and Mushrooms in Oyster Sauce. The magic of this recipe doesn’t just start when you taste it on steaming hot rice. It starts when you lift the lid off the wok as the wings are gently braising in mushroom juices and you get that first waft…its earthy aromas are just out of this world. And that’s just the beginning! The chicken is so silky it slides right off the bone then slowly melts in your mouth. The whole dish is cooked with oyster sauce, which gets infused in the mushrooms and transforms them into something spectacular. Think of a delicious thick, savoury glaze except it’s inside the mushroom! One bite and you’ll fall in love. Seriously, just look at how the golden wings and mushrooms glow. Which Chicken Cut Do I Use? The best part about this recipe is that you can use any cut of chicken you’d like with oyster sauce and mushroom – breast, thigh, you name it.The reason why we choose wings above all the other cuts is because it has everything a tasty piece of chicken offers: a great meat to fat ratio and a way to cook straight from the bone. We all know that anything cooked with the bone in tact tastes so much better. Now, if you prefer other chicken parts, this recipe will taste amazing with any of them! How Can I Substitute Oyster Sauce? I’ll be completely honest…you can’t replicate the exquisite savoriness in a good oyster sauce. Luckily, they’re fairly easy to come by in Asian supermarkets. But if you don’t have oyster sauce handy in your pantry, don’t panic! There are a few ways to get a flavor that resembles oyster sauce: Vegetarian oyster sauce. Made exclusively from mushrooms, vegetarian flavoured mushroom sauce is a great alternative especially for vegetarians or anyone allergic to shellfish. Soy sauce. While they’re not exactly the same, you’ll get the saltiness oyster sauce offers. Just use less than what you’d normally add for oyster sauce and use some sugar to balance out the salt. Hoisin sauce. The consistency of hoisin sauce is as thick as oyster sauce but has a sharp sweetness that can be adjusted with a little salt. The Recipe Prep Time: 25 minutes Cook Time: 30 minutes Total Time: 55 minute Servings: 6 Ingredients 100 g / 0.22 lb dehydrated shiitake mushrooms (or any mushrooms you have available) 3 US cups water (saved from soaking mushrooms) 1.5 kg / 3.3 lb chicken wings 6 cloves garlic, finely chopped 3 tbsp cooking oil 3/4 tsp salt, or to taste 1 tbsp sugar, or to taste 3/4 tbsp chicken bouillon powder 4 tbsp oyster sauce (3 tbsp for the marinade, 1 tbsp for braising) 1 tbsp dark soy sauce Instructions Soak the shiitake mushrooms in water for at least 20 minutes then drain. Keep the water aside for later. Marinate the chicken wings in oyster sauce, salt, sugar and chicken bouillon powder. Pour the oil into a wok and brown the garlic on a medium heat. Turn the heat up to high and toss in the mushrooms to sear for 2 minutes. When seared, add the chicken in and stir for 2 minutes. Add the saved mushroom liquid into the wok along with the oyster sauce and dark soy sauce. Bring the liquid to a boil then turn down the heat to medium/low to braise the wings and mushroom on a simmer for 20 minutes. Serve over rice! submitted by /u/WokandKin to r/Cooking [link] [comments]

What is your go-to ACTUALLY easy dinner?
I understand everyone has their own idea of what would be considered “easy”. I’m talking something that takes 5-10 minutes to put together, with a cook time less than an hour. For my family, this has consistently (realistically) been a frozen entree like chicken patties or Cordon Bleu with a pre-packaged side like Knor pasta/rice or canned veggies. Occasionally we will default on Hamburger Helpers and skillet dinners as well. I’m trying to steer us away from that stuff, but some nights no one wants to cook, so if anyone has super easy recipes for those kind of nights I’d really appreciate it! Also, a couple of us are picky eaters so I will try to take whatever suggestions you may have and tweak it a bit. Thanks in advanced! Edit: I just want to thank everyone once again for the enormous amount of helpful responses that have flooded in, my phone has been blowing up for hours! I started to take notes, but had to stop for the night and will come back tomorrow. You guys are all awesome, thanks for sharing! submitted by /u/Septemily to r/EatCheapAndHealthy [link] [comments]

Learning to cook during quarantine, so me and my cousins wanted to start recording my Peruvian grandma making her meals! She just taught us this Peruvian bean dish Arroz y Frijol a la criolla. I made it for dinner tonight, so easy, pretty healthy, and super cheap.
Here's a video of my grandma making it For 2 people all you need is: For Beans A can of beans About 1 spoon of Fresh Garlic (or one clove) Half a Red Onion (minced) For Salsa Criolla: Half a Red Onion (chopped) A tomato A bunch of cilantro One pepper of choice (serrano, habanero) ------- Add the diced onions and garlic and cook on a pan Rinse out the beans, add it to a blender with a bit of water so it blends easier Add beans to the pan for a few min (doesn't need to cook too long) For the Salsa Criolla, in a separate bowl put together the chopped onions, chopped tomato, chopped cilantro, and minced pepper of choice Serve on a plate with rice or whatever side you'd like! Let me know what you think! submitted by /u/pierpressure22 to r/EatCheapAndHealthy [link] [comments]

Hey Reddit. I'm a single father that has his kids every evening for dinner and I need cheap/easy things to make that everyone can eat...
Okay so here's the deal. I'm tired of feeding my kids pasta and chicken nuggets and I want them to expand their taste so I'd like to start making food that's not too difficult (I'm a non-cooking guy if that helps. I can grill but cooking in the kitchen seems so foreign to me......). I like casserole type dishes that I can make and put in the oven and let them cook and then have leftovers. Some details. I have 3 kids. Ages 6, 8 and 9. Their mother has limited their pallet so they only like limited things, thus part of the reason I want to expand their pallet and get them to eat more things. In my day my parents made food and said eat or don't eat, but this is what you are getting. I learned to eat. So, I'm looking for easy to prepare and cook dad recipes! Thanks in advance reddit... Edit: Lots of great advice and recipes in here. I've commented on some and plan on putting together a little word doc of the recipes on here and if I do complete it, I'll upload it for reddit to share and use! Thanks again everyone. I have a lot to look through the next few days! submitted by /u/IAmA_10_AMA to r/AskReddit [link] [comments]
