Lawn guy says 3 inches year-round… but I have Bermuda — what height should I actually mow? (EGO mower)
I’m in North Carolina and just getting ready for my first cut of the season. My lawn guy told me to keep it around 3 inches all year and just mow frequently, but I’ve been reading that Bermuda should be cut shorter. My mower is an EGO (settings 1–6), and I think 3–4 is around 3 inches, but I’m not 100% sure yet (still checking the manual). Right now the grass is a bit tall since I haven’t done the first cut yet. I’m thinking of starting higher and gradually bringing it down, but I don’t want to mess it up. What height/settings do you guys recommend for Bermuda, especially for the first cut of the season? submitted by /u/charisma006 to r/lawncare [link] [comments]

Ego mower I’ve had for 6 years
My battery now is somewhat not as good as it was before. I have a trimmer, blower so 2 batteries in total. I need a new battery but the price of one is ridiculous, should I just buy a new mower? I also want to mention that my current mower works great, no issues just battery draining fast, what do you guys do with the old mower that works great if you bought a new mower? Or do you guys maybe have a better idea? I need some advice. Thanks :) submitted by /u/mazsive to r/egopowerplus [link] [comments]

What's the best electric lawn mower right now?
Hello everyone, I'm looking to buy an electric lawnmower to keep grass pathways in check. I have a smallish yard, less than 1/4 acre. I hear good things about Greenworks and Ego but not sure which model best suites me? Do you have any suggestions? Thanks! Update: After doing a lot of my research, (reading many reddit threads and discussions on other websites) I have created my own list of most recommended electric lawn mower in 2026: EGO Power+ Electric Lawn Mower 56V 21" Greenworks 40V Cordless 16" MZK 40V 16" Electric Lawn Mower . EGO Power+ Electric Lawn Mower 56V 21": A powerful and well-built mower that can easily handle medium to large lawns, with strong cutting performance and solid battery life (around 50–60 minutes). Greenworks 40V Cordless 16": A great budget-friendly option for small yards—lightweight, quiet, and easy to use. However, the smaller deck and lower power mean it’s not ideal for thick grass or larger lawns. MZK 40V 16" Electric Lawn Mower: Very affordable and simple, making it good for light-duty use and quick trims. Build quality and cutting power are fairly basic, so it’s best suited for small, well-maintained lawns only. submitted by /u/Slipryi to r/lawncare [link] [comments]

Preparing your yard for spring 2026 is much easier with these smart prices on the latest EGO POWER+ cordless mowers. These models are highly effective for maintaining a pristine lawn because they feature the industry-leading 56V ARC Lithium technology that delivers the torque of gas without any of the noise or mess. These limited-time offers are a perfect way to upgrade to a cleaner and quieter mowing experience as the grass begins to grow. I have fact-checked the specifications to ensure these are accurate details for these high-performance mowers today: EGO POWER+ LM2206SP (22") – Features a premium commercial-grade aluminum deck, the Select Cut multi-blade system, and includes a massive 10.0Ah battery plus an extra 5.0Ah battery for professional-level runtime, for $1,499.98 EGO POWER+ LM2134SP-2 (21") – Includes the Select Cut system with interchangeable lower blades and comes with two 56V 6.0Ah batteries and a rapid charger for continuous power, for $779 EGO POWER+ LM2123SP-2 (21") – Features the Touch Drive self-propelled system that puts total control in your hands and includes a 6.0Ah battery plus a bonus 4.0Ah battery, for $669.99 EGO POWER+ LM2125SP (21") – Equipped with a high-torque brushless motor and a single 7.5Ah battery that provides up to 60 minutes of runtime on a single charge, for $599 EGO POWER+ LM2114SP (21") – A highly effective self-propelled option with a dual-toggle control system and a 6.0Ah battery that is perfect for maintaining thick spring grass, for $529.99 reference - https://x.com/HelpMeFindDeals/status/2027092376372539481 I am personally looking at the LM2125SP because $599 is a smart price for a mower that includes the 7.5Ah battery, which is the perfect size for finishing most suburban yards without needing a swap. Let's talk lawn mower frustrations — what made you go BIFL?
Alright, I need to vent and also get some real talk going here. I'm on my THIRD lawn mower in 8 years. First one was a cheap $200 Walmart special — carburetor crapped out after two seasons. Second was a "mid-range" Craftsman that started dying on me halfway through every mow by year 3. Now I'm seriously considering spending real money on something that'll actually last. But before I pull the trigger, I want to know — what problems are you guys dealing with (or dealt with) that made you finally go BIFL on a mower? From what I've been reading and experiencing, these seem to be the biggest issues: 1. The "Won't Start" Nightmare Every. Single. Spring. You go to start your mower and it's dead. Pull the cord 47 times, nothing. Turns out it's the carburetor — again. I've seen people say they spend more time fixing their mower than actually mowing. One guy on a forum said he found a Honda on the side of the road with a "Free" sign, replaced the pull cord, and it's been running since 2006. Meanwhile my Craftsman needs a séance and a blood sacrifice to start after sitting for two weeks. Anyone else feel like cheap mowers are designed to fail after the warranty ends? 2. Thermal Throttling / Overheating This one surprised me. Apparently a lot of budget mowers just... stop... when they get hot. Like mid-mow, the thing bogs down or shuts off and you have to wait 10-15 minutes for it to cool down. I've read complaints about this on electric mowers too — battery overheats in summer, yellow light comes on, mower stops. Then you're standing there sweating while your mower takes a break. Is this a "you get what you pay for" thing or are even expensive mowers doing this? 3. Cheap Parts That Wear Out Fast Plastic wheels that crack Drive belts that snap Self-propel systems that quit after 2 years Handles that wobble loose One guy said his Toro's self-propel lasted 20 years. Another said his no-name brand's drive system died in 18 months. The difference? Like $200 upfront. What parts fail first on your mowers? 4. Can't Get Replacement Parts This is the one that really kills me. Your mower breaks, you find the part number, and... discontinued. Or the manufacturer doesn't support it anymore. Or the only option is some sketchy eBay listing from overseas. Someone mentioned they bought a Panasonic vacuum on a Redditor's recommendation, company discontinued it, and now they can't even find replacement attachments. Same thing happens with mowers ALL the time. Do BIFL brands actually keep parts available long-term? 5. Battery Life (Electric Mowers) I was considering going electric but the battery situation scares me. From what I've read: Batteries last 3-5 years Replacement batteries cost $200-$400 Some batteries start dying after just 1-2 years If you have a bigger yard, you need multiple batteries One EGO owner said their battery went bad after a year, but warranty covered it. Another said they're still using original batteries from 2014. Seems like a lottery. Are electric mowers actually BIFL or do battery costs make them disposable with extra steps? 6. Wet Grass / Thick Grass = Death Cheap mowers choke on anything that isn't perfectly dry, short grass. You skip one week because of rain, come back to slightly taller grass, and suddenly your mower is coughing, stalling, and leaving clumps everywhere. Meanwhile I keep reading about Honda owners saying they mow through anything. Wet grass, leaves, overgrown patches — no problem. Is cutting power really that different between budget and BIFL mowers? 7. Noise That Makes Your Neighbors Hate You This is more of a quality-of-life thing but some mowers sound like jet engines. My last mower was so loud I had to wear ear protection. I've heard the higher-end mowers (and obviously electric) are way quieter. Did noise factor into your BIFL decision at all? So here's what I want to know: What problems finally made you say "screw it, I'm buying something quality"? What did you buy and how long have you had it? Was it worth the upfront cost? Any problems with your BIFL mower or is it actually holding up? I'm leaning toward Honda HRX or Toro Super Recycler based on what I've read, but I want to hear real experiences before dropping $700+. Also — for those with bigger yards — is a riding mower or zero-turn actually BIFL or are they just more expensive things that break? Thanks in advance. My lawn is looking rough and my patience is gone. Cheap mowers keep dying on me. Want to know what problems pushed you toward BIFL mowers and whether the expensive ones actually last. submitted by /u/Effective-Heart28 to r/BuyItForLifeUSA [link] [comments]

Trying to pick a lawn mower for the first time for a 0.5 acre yard
Hi everyone, I can't decide which lawn mower to get with Thanksgiving sales happening. I have a 0.5 acre yard with ditches around the edge and hills and lots of trees. So I thought it would be great to get a self-propelled lawn mower that also mulches. I narrowed my options to these lawn mowers: Hopefully I can spend less than 800 but would love to hear people's thoughts! EGO 800 Series Select Cut with Touch Drive 21-in Self Propelled Battery Walk Mower, (1) 56-volt, 7.5 Ah Battery Included DeWalt 2X20V MAX DCMWSP256U2 21 in. 20 V Battery Self-Propelled Lawn Mower DeWalt 60V MAX DCMWSP650Y2 21 in. 60 V Battery Self-Propelled Lawn Mower Toro 21565 21 in. (53 cm) Super Recycler® w/Personal Pace® Gas Lawn Mower Toro 21566 60V Max* 21 in. (53 cm) Super Recycler® w/Personal Pace® Lawn Mower - 7.5Ah Battery Included EDIT: Thanks everyone who commented! Based on the inputs that are under my budget, it comes down to these two: * EGO Power+ 800 Series LM2156SP ~~$879 -> $679~~ Toro SmartStow Super Recycler 21565 $819 -> $696 Update: Thanks again everyone! I decided to go with Toro SmartStow Super Recycler 21565!! submitted by /u/rlawodn0302 to r/lawncare [link] [comments]

Ego or ryobi
Looking at getting my first electric garden tool, an electric lawn mower, in Australia. I have currently got it narrowed to either the Ego LM1703E, or the Ryobi R36XLMW16. My understanding is the Ego only has a 500w motor, but the Ryobi is over 1000w (or at least the model below this one is 1000w). Theyre basically the same price at $800 as a kit. I just cant shake the feeling that 500w just isnt enough, but at the same time know there is no standard for what numbers manufacturer's can throw on the box. Which would be the better option? Or are there other electric options i should be looking at? It feels very much comparing an entry level of a commercial brand against the top of the line of a consumer brand. Long term, id also be getting a hedge trimmer, articulating hedge trimmer, wipper snipper and a leaf blower. So the quality of the whole eco system would also be super important. Im DIYing because I have to not because I want to
I recently had an electrician in to talk about adding 9 pot lights to my ceiling. He said just use a lamp and he isnt interested and left. I had another one come in and said I want 9 pot lights and then some pot lights in my soffits. He said the job was too small and he is too busy and left. I had a 3rd electrician and added a bathroom exhaust fan on. He said he might be able to get around to it in a few months and left. I needed some taps replaced and took 7 plumbers to come and do the work. So most of the time im stuck doing DIY because nobody wants work anymore unless they can rip people off for thousands or score big. Just had to insulate my attic because I was quoted $6000. I did it myself for $1000. (btw the only reason why I said no is because I know i was being gouged badly. Im a builder and I knew this was a $2200 job at most. Confirmed it with other insulation companies I did a job with in another city too) The rest of the jobs mentioned above. We didnt even discuss money. Next up I need to do my backsplash and 2 contractors said no its too small. Its a regular size kitchen. Any suggestions on how to get started with backsplash in my kitchen? Im quite handy as I do structural work and framing Edit: There are a whole lot of assumptions here. First of all non of the people I called in know me or I know them. So there isnt an issue of reputation of anything. We didnt even chat money with any of them. We didnt get that far. Secondly: "If you are a builder, you dont know contractors to do it?" I live about an hour+ away from any contractors I know from work. I also dont like to hire guys from the sites we are on. I saw many people do this over 20 years and it results in problems, break down in relationships and loss of jobs. People feeling like they got overcharged by their 'buddy' . didnt do good work etc. So I keep it seperate. Third: "If you're a builder why dont you do it yourself and why are you asking advice"? I am very busy. Its no different than people with a lawn mower hiring a lawncare company to cut your grass. I have zero ego and have no problem asking for tips in a trade I dont professionalize in. There are little tricks to framing just as there might be little trick to backsplash. submitted by /u/Worth_Air_9410 to r/DIY [link] [comments]

What’s the best lawn mower?
Finally caved and decided to retire my old clunky push mower that’s been sputtering along for years. Every time I use it I feel like I’m dragging around a shopping cart with a jet engine strapped on. I’ve been looking at gas, electric, and even those battery ones that people say are surprisingly good. But the reviews online are all over the place—some people swear by Honda, others say Ego is the way to go, then someone else says just get a reel mower and call it a day. For context: I’ve got a medium-sized yard, pretty flat, but with a couple of tree roots and weird little dips. I don’t really care if it stripes the lawn like a golf course, I just want something reliable that isn’t a total pain to use or maintain. So, what’s your go-to mower? Anything you’ve bought that you’d actually recommend after a year or two of use? submitted by /u/jeremyl0l to r/homeownerstips [link] [comments]

Why on earth does an 8 year old gas mower cut better than a brand new 1000 series Ego mower?
Asking here instead of the Honda subreddit because I really, really want to like the Ego more. I'm thinking maybe I'm doing something wrong. It's lighter, it's quieter, and it's nice to just push a button to turn it on. However it's hard to get passed how much better the older gas Honda cuts. I've tested them over and over again, and today I had to go over the lawn with the Honda again after using the Ego to clean up the look of the lawn. The Ego just seems to leave a lot of blades uncut while leaving Mohawk stripes, meanwhile the Honda cuts super even all around. This is the 1000 series Ego LM2236SP with freshly sharpened blades running on turbo mode. Setting both mowers to cut at 3.5 inches on TTTF/KBG. I figured this is one of the top of the line Ego mowers so it should at least be able to cut as good as an old gas mower, no? submitted by /u/Sunknight29 to r/egopowerplus [link] [comments]

Ego mower is... terrible at mowing. Is it just me?
I got an Ego mower a couple years ago. I love (almost) everything about it. The only problem is that it's actually terrible at the most important function of a lawn mower: mowing. It consistently (like, 90% of the time) leaves a line of grass uncut either on the side of the mower under where the wheels roll or right down the middle. At this point mowing takes twice as long because I have to go over everything twice. At least. I have been mowing for decades and never had this problem until this mower, so I don't think it's a me problem, but maybe there's a secret I'm missing with these mowers? I overlap my rows so I'm not just missing chunks. It has done this from day 1 but has gotten worse over time. It is worse when the grass is longer, but happens even when it's short. Sharpening the blades has not helped. I have the same problem with or without the self propel (I thought maybe stopping using it would reduce battery use and leave more juice for the blade). It's worse when in mulching mode, but still happens regardless. And in non-mulching mode, it still gets plugged up in there after like 30 seconds so it's basically back in mulching mode. I don't have a special yard with crazy dense grass or anything. Do others experience this? Do I have a lemon? Is there a secret to making these mowers work? EDITED TO ADD Thanks everyone for your input. Lots of great feedback and suggestions. This is legitimately been the most helpful Reddit has been for me for this type of problem. submitted by /u/gangleskhan to r/egopowerplus [link] [comments]

My EGO mower struggles to cut through grass lately. On 2 of 6 (2nd lowest) it chugs and makes noises like it’s choking up. When I mulch, it’s especially worse.
A few questions I have about my ego and cutting in general. Are you not supposed to “mulch” at a #2? Is mulching meant for #5 or #6 and just barely chopping off the top? At #2 and #3, parts of my lawn cutting make my mower choke up and slow down, even when I’m not mulching and instead bagging up. I thought battery was going bad so I bought a new battery. I thought my blade was dull so I bought a new blade (though I picked the “bagging” high upward air flow blade they sell). Maybe I’m just missing something but I can’t imagine ever cutting my grass close at a #1 because it struggles at #3. Would I regret switching from gas to electric lawn mower?
My old gas lawn mower just crapped out and need to replace it. I'm really temped by the battery-powered mowers. Our yard is about a quarter acre. Most of the ones I'm looking at advertise "gas like power." Is that true? Would I regret switching? Should I just stick with gas? submitted by /u/mrobert92 to r/HomeImprovement [link] [comments]
