DIM: Japanese Electric Bike for my Wife
Due to recent gasoline/diesel price hikes, I recently got into using my 10year-old Mountain Bike again. I use it mainly for commuting to work, doing Grocery Runs and its also my main source exercise. I don't use our Innova that much anymore to save on diesel and sort of as a silent protest(I magine if majority of Filipinos would suddenly stop depending so much on fuel consumption). I only use our car whenever my wife/kids wants to come with me. I already bought my oldest kid a kick scooter and the youngest a push bike. In the hopes of doing this as a family activity and including my wife on grocery runs, I want to buy her her own electric-bike. This bike would only cost as much as 3-full tank of diesel and is also highway road legal in our city. In the future, I'm also planning on buying bikes for my kids when they get older. submitted by /u/ManufacturerSpare543 to r/deinfluencingPH [link] [comments]

Electric vs. gas mini dirt bike for a 10-year-old beginner – which is actually safer and more practical?
Hi r/minibikes , I’m trying to decide between an electric or gas-powered mini dirt bike as a birthday gift for my 10-year-old nephew. He’s never ridden anything motorized before, but he’s super coordinated (rides his mountain bike on trails with confidence) and has been begging for one forever. My budget is around $500, and we have a large backyard plus access to private land (so absolutely no public road or park use). I’ve been reading tons of reviews and forum threads, but I keep seeing two very different schools of thought: Some say gas bikes are the “real deal” and better for learning real throttle control and bike feel. Others argue electric is the only sensible choice for a first-timer—quieter, no fumes, instant on/off, and way less intimidating if he gets nervous. From what I can tell: A $500 gas bike would likely be a 70cc–110cc 4-stroke with automatic clutch. But it’s heavy (120+ lbs), loud, has a scorching-hot exhaust pipe, and probably faster than he needs right now. A $500 electric bike would be around 350W–500W, with a top speed of 12–15 mph, lighter weight (70–90 lbs), and often includes a parental speed limiter so I can start him at 8 mph and ramp up as he gains confidence. He’s about 4'8" and 75 lbs—not small for his age, but not big either. Honestly: Is a gas mini bike at age 10 overkill? Or am I being too cautious by leaning toward electric? What matters most to me is that he stays safe, feels in control, and actually enjoys riding—not whether it “looks like a real dirt bike.” But I also don’t want to buy something he’ll outgrow or lose interest in after a few weeks. If you’ve gone through this with your own kid or a younger rider—what did they start on, and would you choose the same thing again? Thanks so much for any real-world advice! submitted by /u/Electrical-Toe676 to r/minibikes [link] [comments]

I am in my early 60's and I am starting to think about whether an electric mountain bike, eMTB would make more sense for me instead of buying a regular mountain bike?
I really like riding and being outdoors and getting excercise but I am realistic about stamina and recovery time and how much climbinb my knees actually want to do these days. From what I know the biggest difference between a eMTB and a normal bike is that the electric is pedal assissted. You still need to pedal but the motor helps on climbs and with rough terrain and longer rides that sounds like something that would be a good idea for someone my age. I really used to mountain bike a lot when I was younger and i haven't done it in a while so I am wondering if this is something for me. I live in Arizona and love the outdoors and love getting out and doing stuff that maybe after a few years i may not be able to, Its funny how you take for granted your body when you are younger and when you get older you just want ot do everytyhing that you used to be able to and you can but but yeah its just not the same. Electric bike Germany : finally getting why people rave about these things
I always thought electric bikes were kind of “cheating.” I’ve been riding a regular bike for years, powering up every hill, and honestly, I liked the workout. Then I started looking at options for a new setup, mostly just browsing and noticed a bunch of electric bikes on Alibaba that ship to Germany. At first, I thought “meh, probably sketchy” and almost ignored it. A friend let me test their e-bike recently, and wow… I get it now. Hills aren’t a punishment anymore, my commute actually feels fun, and I end up riding longer than I ever did before. It’s like suddenly having a boost that doesn’t ruin the exercise but makes everything way easier and more enjoyable. What surprised me is that even browsing Alibaba, I could see a huge variety of e-bikes city, commuter, mountain, even folding models, although Amazon or local shops in Germany had more polished, ready-to-go options. It got me thinking: is it better to wait for local stock with warranty, or is sourcing a quality e-bike through Alibaba reasonable if you know what to check? I’m curious how others in Germany have handled this. Did you go local, import, or mix-and-match? How did it work out for commuting and city rides? I feel like I’ve just unlocked a new level of biking, and I want to hear how other people got started without regretting it. submitted by /u/MeThyck to r/ebikes [link] [comments]

Electric assist mountain bike
Hello, I tried searching for an answer but didn't have any luck. Are electric assist mountain bikes a thing? Meaning that the frame is suited for off-road dirt use and large diameter tires that aren't too wide, but with an electric motor to assist when pedaling isn't enough to get me up the hills. What prices would I be looking at? Thank-you Edit: Everyone telling me to just Google it... I did, and thousands of advertisements (mostly sponsored) were easily available to view and I have absolutely no idea what would be worth buying or not. I'm curious about specific models people think are worth buying. It's really difficult for me to sort through so many options. And yes, my brain isn't working at 100% anymore after a drunk driver hit me resulting in a traumatic brain injury. I'm trying. Sorry my post offended people. I have difficulty communicating. I live far away from any bike shops or bike clubs. There are trails around me that extend 20+ miles but I can't navigate them on my manual bike anymore as I'm not in great muscular shape. (Car accident nearly crippled me, but I'm trying) Could you recommend any models that are mountain bike first and e-bike second? Hard tail, light-weight, tires not too fat. I want some electric assistance, not an e-bike that can go off-road. Thank-you for taking the time to help. submitted by /u/Naughtyniceguy_ to r/ebike [link] [comments]

anyone suggest a budget friendly electric mountain bikes for people aging out of longer rides?
Been cycling for 15 years and always kind of looked down on ebikes. Figured if you need electric assist you should just get in better shape. That attitude lasted until this year when I realized I'm not 25 anymore. I love long weekend trail rides but lately I've been cutting them shorter because my knees hurt or I'm just exhausted. Used to easily do 40 to 50 mile rides, now I'm struggling with 25. Part of it is probably age (I'm 42), part of it is just not having as much time to train like I used to. Been seeing more ebikes on the trails and I'm actually curious now. Like if I could still do the long rides and challenging terrain without destroying my joints that sounds pretty good actually. But I also don't want to spend $5000 on something that feels like cheating. Anyone else gone through this progression? Went from regular cycling to ebike because of age or injuries? Trying to figure out if it's worth looking into or if I should just accept that my long ride days are over. submitted by /u/ReaperCaution to r/bicycling [link] [comments]

Did you guys buy from Amazon? Looking for an electric bike and need opinions and advice.
With the Black Friday sales coming up I decided to upgrade from my 3 year old electric scooter to an electric bike due to issues with my daily commute to work and casual rides. But I am not well informed on bicycles let alone electric bikes, and I can’t really spend much time to figure it all out due to some irl issues that require my time. There’s a few things I think would be necessary but would like to hear your opinions and help if that would be okay. Goatheads, puncturevines, tackweed, the devil’s thorn. Whatever everybody calls them, they are probably the biggest thing I have had to deal with whenever I drive to work or stores with my scooter. I read fat tires help so I wouldn’t have to deal with sudden tears in tires A bike rack for the back. I normally go grocery shopping but can’t get too much, so it’s either multiple trips on my scooter or ordering it all and letting someone else deliver and my wallet getting gut punched. I hear I can find some stuff where I could pack a lot on the back and safely transport it back home Price. Most of us sadly aren’t made of money, and this was a promising bike I found on Amazon but delivery would be too much! I could do their limited $250 visa incentive but afterwards I would still need to pay off $353. I found some others with free delivery but their prices are much higher than the $600 this bike showed off.. Is there anywhere else you guys look to buy or know any brands? I feel like most bikes they just copy and paste their brand name and just ship it out like that That’s pretty much my top 3 worries/concerns/questions?? If anybody has knowledge to share and help it would be much appreciated. Due to life I can’t really rely on anyone and with the goatheads prowling my city I have gotten tired replacing/fixing my scooter constantly and see others with bikes having an easier time with less inconvenience and happier lives. Thank you for the time to read. Apologies it took so long just trying to join the electric bike gang and enjoy life with a new bike in my life :) submitted by /u/SlashingGreen to r/ebikes [link] [comments]

Electric motors hurt mountain biking, but we’re not talking e-bikes: e-motos are the problem
According to Montgomery County, “misuse” can mean riding the wrong machine. The county states that while riding e-bikes isn’t completely prohibited, the e-bike must “weigh no more than 100 pounds, shall be equipped with a motor no more than 750 watts, and shall be equipped with fully functional, operational pedals. It seems like Montgomery County has an issue with e-motos, not e-bikes. https://www.singletracks.com/mtb-gear/electric-motors-hurt-mountain-biking-but-were-not-talking-e-bikes-e-motos-are-the-problem/ submitted by /u/Huge-Community-1324 to r/ebikes [link] [comments]

What's the Best E-Mountain Bike?
Looking to purchase a new e-mountain bike in CA. Mostly cross country riding with some enduro, no hardcore downhill though. Something with good range. Targeting somewhere around 4-7k price range, although willing to go a bit higher for a super premium bike. I was looking at the LUNA extreme enduro x2.5 but it's been out of stock for awhile and their customer service seems non existent. https://lunacycle.com/x2-5-extreme-enduro-60v-ebike/?gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=22851037132&gbraid=0AAAAADxwwMmXOx_Fe9Ch-6z424FW2c_tX&gclid=CjwKCAjwtfvEBhAmEiwA-DsKjjjrprk0zwtsPGiIdw3bACwm26t-WOsy40r9RgN4XypLP4VxXS_eVxoC2D0QAvD_BwE Any suggestions are welcomed. (UPDATE) RETURNED : 2022 Giant Trance 2 Mountain Bike + Thule XT Pro Rack
A lot of you had asked for closure, so here it is. Please make sure to help support the shops listed if you are in need of anything cycling related. They went above and beyond to make this all possible. The bike was returned to the rightful owner today at 8pm. Thank you for all that helped. I'd like to especially thank the following organizations for their help which was instrumental in finding the owner: Michael's Cycles of Janesville, Wi. They were my personal shop for years and I know them personally and trust them. They assisted in going up the chain of command within Giant and finding the right person to track down the shop it was sold to. Chile Pepper Bike Shop. This was the shop of purchase. Unfortunately they were closed until the 8th and thankfully I was able to get in contact with the store manager who was able to track down the owner. A lot of coincidences happened here. As predicted the owner had come from the Midwest (as there was salt on the bike). He has been towing an RV with a Jeep on the back. The rack was mounted on the Jeep which was towed on a trailer. Somehow it survived a 5 foot fall at 70 MPH without damage. He had stopped just an hour prior at the border to take pictures. Noticed it was missing north of Denver and had assumed it was both taken and heavily damaged. He indeed was not having a great day. Thankfully I hadn't dropped the bike off at the Fort Morgan PD. The owner was coincidentally 5 minutes from my apartment in Grand Junction at an RV park (and leaving in 2 days for Hurricane). The owners faith in humanity was restored. He was having a bad go of it and had been burned by a lot of people. He said this is definitely a turning point for him and has changed his entire perspective. Thank you to all with kind words and encouragement. A new years goal of mine is to be kinder and more selfless than I am already. This was a great test immediately into the new years. To those who tried claiming ownership, "taking it off my hands", etc it's super scummy of you to even ask. ______________________________________________ Are you having a bad start to 2024? Did you lose your 2022 Giant Trance 2 Full suspension mountain bike and Thule XT Pro rack last night / this morning off i76? Good news. Im not a jackass and didnt steal it. I tried dropping your bike and rack off at the fort Morgan PD and they had me waiting 45 minutes. While I do want to get this back to the rightful owner, I have places to be to be today. The bike will be going with me to Grand Junction. Good news. The bike sustained minimal damage from initial observations. The chain is missing. Everything else seems to be there. Rack is a bit rough. Still works great as these are high quality racks but the bottom seems to have taken a nice electric slide at 75 ish miles an hour. The bike was found intact just north of mile marker 101 on 76 at approximately 840am. Please share this post to get max exposure. I hope the real owner is tracked down. SN is not provided to protect the actual owner. If you aren't the actual owner, please don't contact me in an attempt to claim it. This is posted to the bike index as well. Proof of ownership is required for return of the bike (SN, receipt, police report or possibly photos of you with the bike). This is to protect the actual owner. Do not contact me if you are not the legitimate owner of the bike. I am not donating this bike to your charity or giving you this bike. Someone is the legitimate owner, it's scummy to try to take their bike or claim it's your missing bike to then tell me it's not actually your bike. *****Shop that sold the bike new has been located***** Somehow it survived falling off an RV at 70mph. He had lost it less than 30 minutes before i drove by. submitted by /u/Dierad53 to r/mountainbiking [link] [comments]

What is your experience with e-mountain bikes on trails?
Hey folks, Dealing with some issues with electric mountain bikes on recreational trails. I've had a couple of close calls, specifically with my dog, on trails with e-mtn bikes going way too fast. Does anyone have any personal experience with this? Are there any e-mtn bikers, traditional mtn bikers, or avid hikers on here who have thoughts? submitted by /u/Temporary-Duty-5081 to r/hiking [link] [comments]

How can we make mountain biking more sustainable? I made a list.
It's very hard to determine how much damage we do in this sport but I hope we can continue to find ways to reduce our negative impact and take responsibility. The better we engage with our environment and community the more reason our sport has to receive support and possible funding. Here are a few points I think are valid steps to reduce (and possibly improve) our impact. Consuming: care for the products we buy to maximize their lifespan (whether a cheapie or an expensive piece) buy from companies that produce quality products that are; durable, sustainably sourced materials, offer repairs, biodegradable consumables, free from known contaminants that harm the wildlife or water bodies consider where products are made, some countries have lower environmental policies (? I'm missing the right term) (such as cheap electricity, poor waste management etc, China is classic for this as well as having poor conditions for the factory workers) split bulk purchases of biking fluids/greases/detergents like; suspension or brake fluid, grease with riding friends and family to reduce small individual packaging buy second hand, reuse**/**recycle materials when possible, Riding: save skidding, ripping, 100% shredding and off-line routes for man-made trails that get responsibly and legally maintained ride slower on natural trails to reduce soil erosion, avoid causing mud ruts or beeline puddle routes by riding in damp-dry conditions over muddy days location bells such as bear bells, Timber! can reduce accidents on the trail by alerting other trail users, wildlife to be aware of an oncoming rider. This can reduce unnecessary skidding to a stop, off-trail lines to avoid a clash and thus reducing erosion ride/train/public transport to the trailhead or if you can't then drive there with a fuel-efficient/electric vehicle full of passengers (if you've got a spare seat and we're not in a pandemic then put an offer out in your online community). (idea from u/metengrinwi thanks) IMBA Rules of the trail- responsible riding Trail Condition Clear drains if you see they are clogged (thanks u/redyellowblue5031 ) try and remove fallen trees from the trail instead of riding newly formed paths around the obstruction (additional paths remove biomass) Sustainable Trail Building (tbc, please share info and resources and I'll gladly add it) USDA Trail Construction and Maintenance Notebook - 2007, not specific to mountain biking but contains a lot of considerations to be made when locating, building and maintaining a trail (thanks u/c0nsumer for both the USDA and IMBA links) IMBA's Guide to Building Sweet Singletrack- Trail solutions (40$) Additional actions: don't litter, bring a bag with you to collect rubbish so it's nicer for the next animal (incl. humans) or plant in the area. If you have just used an energy gel - put the empty package in your f*cking pocket! (thanks u/k-one-0-two ) volunteer at trail building days to hopefully improve the trail's condition, drainage and fun-factor support your local mtb association, be a member if you can ( thanks u/glittermouton ) If you have some other suggestions/experiences/ideas please share them! Ride on and stay safe Edit: the title is becoming less accurate, "We made a list" would be more suitable. I'm really grateful for this discussion. It captures multiple viewpoints that exist in our community so thanks again for sharing your thoughts and info. Edit: bye-bye bold words, Edit: the point of this post is to offer real ways to reduce harm to the environment, some are suggesting to stop riding altogether... yes that's a way but I know we love riding too much. Life's all about compromises. submitted by /u/laowaiH to r/MTB [link] [comments]

I’m sorry to the purists here but riding eMTBs has completely reinvigorated my love for mountain biking.
I’ve been riding a long time on lots of different types of MTBs, and now I look forward to rides like never before. I live in a part of the US that is very mountainous. There are excellent trails to be ridden, but they all require brutal amounts of climbing. I can do the climbs, I just can’t stand doing them. And then after the climb I feel fatigued for the descents, which is never good. More and more I found myself thinking of something else to do other than ride, because I knew there’d always be the climb. But now I’ve embraced the darkness, and the climbs don’t make me hate riding anymore. I think about parts of these gorgeous trails I never thought about before, lines I never bothered to seek out, because I had always had to sacrifice fun just to save a little more stamina. Not anymore. And man, it really has given birth to a whole new love of riding. I’m sorry if some of you find this post pointless or somehow preachy, but if you want to just ride a certain way and an eMTB allows you to do that unlike ever before, then just get one. submitted by /u/esw116 to r/MTB [link] [comments]
