After losing my right arm, I refused to quit gaming and designed my own one-handed controller
(*EDIT: added the landing page to the project idea at the bottom of the post, since a lot of people were asking to find it) I lost my right arm in a severe accident. one of the hardest things to lose was gaming. Standard PC Gaming assume two hands keyboard in one hand, mouse in the other so i was screwed basically. I tried different setups, but nothing gave me the control and speed I wanted. so I started experimenting. I bought a Razer Tartarus as a proof of concept, modified the controls, literally hot glued a mouse to the side, remapped inputs, added a strap and built a rough one handed setup to see if full keyboard + mouse gaming with one hand was even possible. It worked. that first prototype let me move, aim, click, shoot, and use abilities again. It was pretty ugly, but it proved the concept worked. i can play basically anygame now. fast paced FPS, mmo, rpg, etc... once I knew that, I started designing a proper version from scratch. I took the Tartarus-style layout, cut it in half, mirrored it into a universal housing, added a built-in mouse sensor, hand strap, support system, and extra inputs to create a true one handed gaming device. the goal was simple: integrated mouse control full keybind access ergonomic comfort for long sessions ambidextrous use reduced hand travel built for actual gaming what started as a necessity turned into something I think could help a lot of people: one handed gamers amputees players wanting a compact setup disabled gamers kids with physical limitations who still deserve to play games too I just wanted to game again. now Id love to get this made for kids with physical limitations and disabled gamers who need better options. Best mouse for heavy spreadsheet work + Mac/Windows switching (horizontal scroll is a must) - not a gamer
Update: I went ahead and bought MX master 4. It’s looking pretty good. I was also able to convince my IT team to give me access to install the logi options+ on my work mac. Hey everyone, I'm trying to find the right mouse for a dual-OS setup and could really use some real-world recommendations. My setup: - MacBook for work - Windows machine for 3D modeling + design - Switching between both regularly Key requirements: - Horizontal scroll wheel is mandatory (I work extensively with large spreadsheets) - Smooth/fast scrolling for long documents - Comfortable for long hours - Seamless switching between devices (Mac + Windows) Important context: - Budget is not an issue - Not a gamer, so gaming features don’t matter - I can technically use Logi Options+ on my office mac, but honestly it’s pretty glitchy on my system and I don’t want to depend on software too much - Prefer something that works well even without constantly tweaking software - Should be available in India Current mice: - Magic Mouse (Mac) – not great ergonomically, very poor dpi, and nightmare to work with with multiple monitor extensions - Basic Dell mouse (Windows) - its wired and cheap I’ve been considering the MX Master series, but I’ve also heard about alternatives like Keychron M6, ASUS proart 301 etc. Would love to hear: - What you’re using for similar workflows - How dependent it is on software - Any long-term annoyances (scroll wheel, ergonomics, switching, etc.) Thanks! submitted by /u/LeadingMeat5408 to r/desksetup [link] [comments]

Best Budget Ergonomic Mouse for Large Hands? (2026)
I recently got the R1 Pro less than a month ago, and it's been giving me hand cramps after a couple hours of gaming. I thought it was because I needed to get used to a smaller, ambidextrous mouse so I tried working around it by resting in between games by watching YouTube and surfing the web. However, I've come to the realisation that I simply need a larger mouse that works for me. My hands are 20cm x 10.5cm and I use a relaxed claw grip. These are the mice I've used in the past: G403 Wireless: 2018 - 2023, was fine as a starter mouse I guess. Double clicked and my fingers created indents on the rubber coating. G Pro Wireless: Used it for 2 weeks in 2019, but sold it as I didn't love the shape and size. Mouse was too expensive for me to justify keeping something I didn't love. However, I did notice my Wingman flicks improved when I used the mouse so I kept the idea of trying another light ambi mouse in the back of my head. DeathAdder V2 Wired: 2023 - 2026. Loved the shape, but yet again my fingers created indents on the rubber coating which I hate. I just came back from a store to test out different mice and really liked the EC1-C and Superlight DEX. Not huge on the new shape in the DAV3 and DAV4, feels smaller than the DAV2 for some reason. However, I'm aware that there aren't any clones of the DAV2 except the Attack Shark V3 (apparently trash). And after looking on ELOshapes, it seems like the next closest things to the EC1 are the Intellimouse Pro (too heavy) and Glorious Model D (I find honeycombs gross). So I guess my best bet would be to look for DEX clones. I've currently narrowed my options down to the Mchose A7 RE and the ATK Y9 Ultimate, but I'm not sure if there's a clear "better" option between the 2. u/BeerGogglesFTW's posts/comments about the 2 mice have been helpful, but I'm wondering if anyone else has any input to add. Or maybe even another option to consider? Thank you! I'm from Singapore if that helps with suggestions :) submitted by /u/HyeriMyGoddess to r/MouseReview [link] [comments]

Building a one handed ergonomic keypad + mouse hybrid after losing my right arm
hey guys, i was suggested by others to share this here a bit over five years ago I lost my right arm in an accident. One thing that immediately became difficult was PC gaming and general computer input, since almost every setup assumes two hands. I started experimenting with different layouts and eventually built a prototype device I call ERCHAM. The goal is to combine a gaming keypad and mouse into a single input device that can be fully controlled with one hand. the housing layout is inspired by the belkin / razer nostromo and tartarus keypads because that ergonomic shape already works well for gaming. the design includes • optical mouse sensor on the bottom so the whole device moves like a mouse • programmable keypad layout similar to gaming keypads • stabilizing strap so the hand stays aligned with the controls • ambidextrous layout so it can work for either left or right hand • potential modular thumb clusters using pogo pins The first prototype is pretty DIY but surprisingly usable for things like FPS and MMO games. Id love feedback from the community here since a lot of you have built some amazing ergonomic input devices. submitted by /u/Adventurous_Tie_9031 to r/ErgoMechKeyboards [link] [comments]

Sold my steam deck for a legion go 2 and it was a massive mistake.
I’m making this post as a confession. I fell for the spec sheet, sold my steam deck, and "upgraded" to the Legion go 2. On paper it seemed like a no-brainer with more power and a better screen. But in reality it was just a nightmare of friction and weight. The tinkering on windows is on a whole other level compared to steamOS. i found myself having to tweak settings in the amd software every single time i launched a new game, restarting to apply them, and then still messing with in-game settings. i spent more time trying to run games optimally than actually playing them. it felt like a chore. For example, I tried playing Borderlands 2 and it was a disaster. It was choppy ~80 fps and dropping to 30 fps even on the lowest settings. on my steam deck, that same game runs at a locked 90 fps on max settings. I still haven't figured out why the more powerful device struggled that much with an older title. I will say, the go 2 oled display was amazing. the high refresh rate and colors were incredible, the detachable controllers are neat, but that’s where the praise ends. The weight: this thing is a tank. i go to the gym 4 times a week, but playing for even 5 minutes tired out my hands. it’s just way too heavy for a handheld. The trackpad: absolute trash. i used to play mouse-based games on my deck all the time, but the trackpad on the go 2 is so atrocious it basically restricted what i could play. Battery life: it was noticeably worse than the deck. to be fair, I was cranking settings to the max, but when you pay 2.5x the price of a deck, why wouldn't you? I ended up selling the go 2 and buying another steam deck. i’ve been way happier since. the extra power and the nicer screen just weren't worth the constant friction and the terrible ergonomics. submitted by /u/onlinescammer to r/SteamDeck [link] [comments]

Which ergonomic gaming mouse for enduring wrist problems?
Edit: I mean ongoing wrist problems Hello everyone, To keep it short: I play a lot of video games and work on the PC all day. I’ve been using a Roccat Kone AIMO for about 5 years, but for the last 2–3 years I’ve been dealing with recurring wrist pain in waves. On top of that I sometimes get what feels like a ganglion-type bump, and whenever I click a lot my forearm gets really fatigued. I’ve read a lot about the Keychron M5, but it doesn’t have to be vertical — I’m open to other suggestions too. Does anyone here have similar issues or can recommend what mouse/setup helped you? For now I ordered some foam padding for my mouse arm, we’ll see how that goes. My handsize is 18cm from wrist to top of middlefinger so id say medium. Any help/advice would be appreciated! submitted by /u/Left-Presentation776 to r/MouseReview [link] [comments]

Is this really necessary?
Do you ever want to take your computer mouse with you, but notice it’s lack of handles or handholds? Sick of difficult-to-transport computer mice, constantly falling out of your hand? Do you have to constantly pick up icky computer mice by the body like some kind of lowly pleb? Is your current mouse constantly hard to hold onto? Asus R&D noticed. So we have added a luxurious(tm) elastic(tm rope (tm) carrying(tm) handle(tm) to our mice, so that you can carry(tm) it with ease! Gone are the days of carrying mice in a bag, on your palm, or by the cable - grab one today (by the trademarked elastic rope carrying handle(tmtm)) Like seriously though - why? Please tell me this is a game-changer for one of you all. submitted by /u/CobblerOdd2876 to r/pcmasterrace [link] [comments]

What are the Best Gaming Mouse at the Moment? Recommendation?
I’ve been trying to find a good gaming mouse, but honestly, it’s been tough to figure out which ones actually feel comfortable and perform well for long gaming sessions. Between sensor accuracy, ergonomics, weight, and button layout, I’m feeling stuck and overwhelmed. Have any of you found a gaming mouse that really delivers? I’d love recommendations for ones that feel great in the hand, have reliable performance, and are worth the investment. I’ve seen brands like: Logitech Razer Corsair If you’ve tried one and loved it or hated it, I’d really appreciate your honest take. submitted by /u/ethandog1234 to r/buildapc [link] [comments]

Best ergonomic mouse that works for gaming?
Hey, I'm having some trouble with my wrist recently and my manager suggested I buy and expense an ergonomic, I was thinking of Logitech lift (or MX Vertical) as the position feels good for my wrist, but it doesn't seem like it would fit for my gaming as well. so I was wondering if there is any mice that would be fine for work and also work for gaming? If not, what is the best ergonomic mouse in general? Amkette XS Series Flow mouse for productivity (non-gaming) – worth buying?
Hi everyone, I’m considering buying the Amkette XS Series Flow Wireless Mouse for pure productivity and general use (no serious gaming). Use case: long study/work sessions, web browsing, PDFs, note‑taking, but no competitive gaming. I mainly care about comfort, reliability, battery life, and how good the side scroll + extra buttons are in real-world use. For anyone who owns or has tried this mouse: How is the build quality and click feel over time? Any issues with Bluetooth stability or multi‑device switching lag? Is the ergonomics good enough for long hours, or does the shape cause fatigue? Any annoying flaws (sensor issues, scroll wheel problems, wobble, buggy shortcuts, etc.)? Also, at its usual street price in India, do you think it’s a good buy, or would you recommend a different productivity‑focused mouse instead? Thanks in advance. FTL: Faster Than Light. A New Ergonomic Control Layout, aiming for a Friction-less player experience for FTL Newbies and Veteran Space Captains alike. Search "EPICMAN's Steam Deck/Game Pad Layout"
Being a long time fan of the game FTL, I was so excited to get it on my Deck. It was among the first few games I downloaded, and I fired it up not long after. I quickly discovered the control scheme was nearly unusable. At least, it sure didn't feel like a proper handheld hyperspace experience. It was months before I opened the game again, pouting that my favorite 12 year old game doesn't work seemlessly with new hardware. All while knowing the Deck controls could be optimized. Perfected, even. While I can't say it's perfect now, it is a lightyear better than the other community layouts available. I've made a very user friendly and intuitive control scheme. Easy to start using but very practical. All the necessary actions are right where I feel they should be, with room to customize the controls to perfect your cockpit. Finally, the game feels right on the Deck. I feel like a space captain again The Community Layout is called; "EPICMAN's Steam Deck/Game Pad layout" by EPICMAN. The Layout is intended to make it easy for anyone and everyone to jump into FTL on Steam Deck or Controller with as little friction as possible. I hope this makes the game more accessible to those who don't want to tinker with controller bindings for hours. Benefits include; Easy access to pause - A: Pause Easy access to offensive systems - B: Cloak - X: Hack - Y: Teleport - Hold L3 for secondary action group. - B+L3: Battery - X+L3: Mind Control - Y+L3: Teleport Return Easy access to number keys - Grip Buttons: 1-4. - L3+Grip Buttons: 5-8. Easy access to essential systems - Drag and press on left trackpad for radial menu. Easy access to shift key. - Hold R3 (shift) for de-powering systems. Proper Pause and Ship menu buttons - Menu and Share. Redundant mouse inputs. - Both sticks and right track pad control mouse. - Ergonomic, while allowing more custom inputs. - Stick sensitivity and deadzones tweaked for easy tracking. - Can be played handheld or placed on desk. Easily customizable. - All Inputs are labeled correctly to easily identify and change inputs. - Extra space in 'Secondary' action set for adding preferred inputs. - Basic Virtual Menu, intended to expand with ship systems. - Can Choose a preferred mouse input, to bind different inputs to the Primary action set I hope this layout helps inspire a few new sessions of FTL, for new players or for veterans. It feels like a bit of a new experience, playing without the mouse and keyboard. The Layout should even work well when docked with a controller for a whole different vibe. Enjoy, and feel free to report back with any advice for tweaks, and I'd be happy Thanks! -EPICMAN *Note: this is another edit of a previous post, not a duplicate. Video games suck with mouse and keyboard
Controller gaming is so much better for the vast majority of games. It's much easier to pick up on controls, because with m+k there's a lot more buttons and can become quite confusing. Also, your hands are in a symmetrical more ergonomic position with a controller. I will admit that some games are better with a mouse for inventory management, however that's a small portion of games. submitted by /u/DuckDogPig12 to r/The10thDentist [link] [comments]
