What started as cringe AI slop and misinformation has turned into something far more disturbing, and I feel like it's only going to get worse. In the past 24 hours, Eoin Richard, StreetPeopleOfLosAngeles, Susan Collins (LA), and Zach Comisar distributed some of the most vile, racist, fear-mongering propaganda I've seen this election cycle. Each account posted these fake videos around the same time, tagged each other, and passed them off as real, claiming "someone sent them the video." Of course, no one claimed responsibility for the actual filming. But given that Zach Comisar works for Vice Media in their social department, founded and operates the AI slop and misinformation account PalisadesHQ, and happens to be a longtime Spencer Pratt collaborator, maybe he might know? Zach? The staged videos were filmed on a residential street in the hills of Silver Lake, to simultaneously dupe the audience into believing "nowhere is safe" and to straight-up harass Nithya and her family. (Yes, they placed all of the people and props in her driveway.) Each video features what appears to be an exclusively Black cast acting out every "scary, drugged-out homeless" stereotype your Fox News uncle fever-dreams about: some kind of half-assed, TikTok "Birth of a Nation" lite exclusively for this very weird election. Yes, anyone with a few brain cells could spot how fake this content is. But sadly, as of this morning, these videos have over a million views, and most of the comments seem to think they're genuine. Walked past an Abercrombie at the mall yesterday and it actually smells normal in there now. Which sent me into a full spiral thinking about what Hollister used to be like in 2006. You would walk into what was essentially a dark cave in the middle of a mall. No natural light. Carpet. Loud music that was one notch below a nightclub. And the cologne. Oh the cologne. They had a guy whose entire job was to just walk around spraying Fierce on everything including apparently the walls, the carpet and the souls of everyone who entered. You'd come home and your mom would ask if you'd been somewhere and you'd say "just the mall" and she'd know exactly where because you smelled like you fell into a vat of it. So two days back I decided to do a haircut. I chose a well renowned expensive salon, for the salon I chose this top. My mom was not in the house while I was going out, but while coming back she was at the home. She was so furious regarding this top. She called me vile things overit. She called me unclassy, exposive, vulgar that right now I am on the road to show too much skin. She said that my only concentration is on clothes not on education unlike other girls. Despite I scoring well and being topper for my exams, I had my job the next day of graduation, I took her to trip, lifted her clothes took her to expensive restaurants. Everything. Ok so I’m 15f and yeah I know this might get removed or clowned on or whatever but honestly I don’t care. I just need to get it out somewhere because apparently I’m the one who took shit too far when I was just saying what we were all already thinking. So. My mom cheated on her fiancé with who also happened to be her best friend’s husband Messy as hell and fucking stupid, yeah, but they all stayed together. Like, my mom still married her fiancé. Her best friend stayed with the guy who cheated. Then I was born, I guess I was the shitty cherry on top of that disaster. I grew up with my mom, her husband , and their two older kids ( they had kids before me) . My bio dad stayed with his wife and their kids at their house, and both families stayed weirdly blended. It was like a big performance. One big family with this unspoken rule to never bring up the affair that literally created me until I was old enough. But it was very fucking apparent to me that I was not the like rest, even before they decided to tell me the actual story when I was 12ish. My half siblings that I grew up made it real clear I was “other.” They never hit me or anything, but I got blamed for everything. If something was missing, it was me. If someone was crying, it was probably something I said. My sister once locked me out of the house and told me I should’ve never been born. I was 7. When I told my mom, she said I probably provoked it out of her, essentially. She never really protected me. She took care of the basics, fed me, gave me clothes, showed up to parent-teacher conferences when she had to, but there was nothing behind it. Like she was doing a job she didn’t sign up for and just wanted to clock out. The only time she got emotional with me was when I embarrassed her or if other people made her talk about me. Their dad, my mom’s husband was similar. He never yelled or hit me, but he never looked at me the way he did his kids. He never smiled at me, never came to my school plays even though he went to all theirs, never took out on little special trips like the others. If I seemingly fucked up, I got lectured like I was a criminal. If they did the same thing, it was just a teaching moment. He never called me his daughter, only by my name unless he had to. The other kids , bio dad’s side, mostly ignored me. Not mean, just distant. They barely spoke to me unless they had to. One gave me an old hoodie once and that was as close to kindness as I got. When I was 9, something I was officially done with everything. We were at a family birthday thing and one of the older kids dared me to eat a cookie with nuts in it. I said no, because I’m allergic, obviously. So they smeared it on my face as a joke. I had a full-blown reaction. Swollen face, couldn’t breathe, ambulance, the whole thing. At the hospital, my mom cried and said I scared her, but when I told her what happened, she just said they didn’t mean it like that. The kid got grounded for one weekend. Her husband didn’t even come to see me. I knew I didn't love them at all anymore right then and refused to act like I did. I gave everybody the bare minimum of affection and interaction so it didn't backfire on me, and I just sorta treated them like roommates and neighbors I vaguely knew Fast forward to last weekend. My mom planned a “family healing weekend” with both sides of the family. Everyone was there, the siblings, the parents, cousins. It was fake smiles and awkward silences. Then one of my mom’s older kids made a snide joke about me causing drama just by existing. My mom laughed. Everyone did. So I snapped on them and told them I don’t love any of them and never will. That I’m done pretending to give a flying fuck about people who only pretend to give a fuck about me. That I’m not family to them and they’re not my family either. They all freaked out, my mom cried and begged me to take it back. Her husband told me I was vile and that he should’ve put his foot down with me years ago. The other kids screamed at me for spitting in the face of people who gave me a home. Even my bio dad’s kids, who usually ignored me, were upset. One of them told me I was acting selfish and cruel. Now I’m grounded. I am typing this out from my old ass fire tablet that my mom forgot to take. My half siblings keep glaring at me whenever we're in the same vicinity and my mom's husband full on stared me down while I was eating breakfast this morning. So that's that. Latest update is 7 days old Mood Spoiler: not everything is resolved, but communication helps Original Post: December 25, 2024 I come from poverty. It is what it is, I had a VERY rich childhood in all the ways except financially. Christmas was saved for year round, and we got one thing to wear, one book, and one fun thing. My husband comes from a family that grossed $300k a year and Christmas was always a massive show off. Each kid had $2000+ under the tree, easy. My husband and I started dating five years ago and have been married for 2.5. We’ve clawed our way up in life (he was not given financial help as an adult) and this year is the first time we can spend some decent money on Christmas. He has been wanting a guitar for some time. He has never played and has expressed interest so many times, but we couldn’t do it financially. I did lots of research and from what I saw, beginners guitars were $150ish and went from there, up to your $5k+ for really nice ones. I AGONIZED over what I was going to choose, and ended up telling him to cut the budget for me so that I could surprise him with a really nice gift (so I thought). My original budget was $500 but I really wanted to go big or go home. It ended up being around $900 CAD, plus $200 for accessories or so. Being able to spend that amount is just… unfathomable for a former poor kid. But I did it because he deserves it, we finally have the means, and I was BEYOND excited to see his face light up! Christmas morning comes and the tree gifts wait until his family arrives. I am basically giddy at this point with excitement. Our turn comes for couple gifts and I bring the guitar case out from its hiding place. He’s SO excited and opens the case, revealing the guitar. And then… “Oh, thanks babe. Never heard of this brand.” Not the overwhelming joy I was hoping for, but it’s not about me, right? His brother says, “Awe, it’s nice. A decent cheapy one to start out with.” His dad chimes in, having played in his 20’s, and says it’s known for its lower end models, and they’d be happy to chip in for a “nice” one next year if he sticks with it. I have never felt such a punch to the gut. I assume I’m overthinking as per usual, but I am still so devastated from this ten seconds of today and I can’t even really verbalize why. It felt like I was 9 years old again, trying to be excited about my new Aeropostale hoodie with my friend that got a MacBook and a Disney trip for Christmas. I think those comments affected how my husband viewed it too, because he hasn’t touched it since, despite wanting it so badly for years. I guess I’m just venting. I’m not confrontational by nature, so I put my anger aside and went into it with patience and grace. I asked if he was upset about the guitar, either the brand choice, the appearance, or something. I told him my feelings were hurt when his family made comments - even if unintentionally - that made it seem like I chose a child’s starter instrument or something. I explained that I’d put a lot of thought and research into the build, the colour, everything so make sure his first experience with a guitar was very positive. He was shocked to hear that I’d been thinking about it that way, he didn’t think twice about what his family said. He apologized for their reaction and his, and explained that his comment about the brand was nothing more than what it seemed - he’d never heard of the brand, that’s all. He said he loved it and was just caught up on the craziness of Christmas, which is why he hadn’t played it yet. It eased my mind a lot, I guess I’m just used to over the top reactions in my family.
