I'm currently selling a standard 2017 Fiat 500 and it's genuinely one of the worst cars I've ever driven. I never realised how cheaply made they are. Changing from a 530e to a Fiat 500 might be a big shock to you.

As title says, I need a reason not to buy a fiat 500. Previous car (Astra) got written off after someone went into the back of me (coincidentally, a fiat 500). Long story short, I’ve been renting cars every weekend for the last 6 months since the accident. That’s because I haven’t needed a car in the week, but I need one at weekends to get to work (100 mile round trips 2x a week). I need something in the week now, so I need to pick up a car sharpish. I don’t want anything too expensive, as I’m planning on moving away in a years time, so I don’t want a massive finance package. But I also want something newish because reliability is a massive factor for me. During this time enterprise have given me loads of cars. Mazdas, Fords, Nissan, basically everything under the sun. This week they have given me a fiat 500 hybrid, and I have to confess, I’ve had a great time. Great fuel economy, fun to drive. When they brought it round I laughed, but it hasn’t put a foot wrong. I’m an early 30’s, 6 foot male. No children, no partner (likely to stay that way if I buy a fiat 500). £10k budget. I went to look at budget cars today, and the fiat 500 was so much cheaper than anything else on offer. Meu primeiro carro, ganhei dos meus pais, ele é um Fiat 500 cult 2013 motor 1.4 evo, câmbio manual, ele tem 91 mil kms, compramos de uma vendedora particular, como ela estava em outra cidade fizemos o laudo dekra antes e deu tudo 100%, ao chegar em nossas mãos, meu pai levou a mecânico de confiança dele e foram feitos os seguintes ajustes: Trocou o óleo e o filtro trocou o fluido do radiador correia dentada E feito uma revisão e nela apareceu que, havia uma folguinha direção que ajustamos. Agora consideramos que o carro está “zero”, eu estou muito feliz pq esse carrinho sempre sempre foi meu sonho!! E uma coisa que eu não sabia mas me surpreendeu muitoooo, ele veio com som bose de fábrica! Fiquei muito feliz! (Eu pesquiso sobre esse carro a anos, e não sabia que poderia ter som bose) Ai tenho usado cabo p2 pra escutar músicas do meu celular no carro Agora só tem uns detalhes estéticos que eu gostaria de fazer por puro capricho, ex: levar naquelas “estéticas automotivas” e fazer aquelas lavagens power por dentro, que limpam até “a alma do carro” pq da pra ver que os bancos estão bem sujinhos, o teto, o motor e afins, e tem um dos faróis que está meio apagado/fosco/opaco, então gostaria de fazer polimento dos faróis e aquelas coisas por fora que as estéticas automotivas postam que o carro fica “cheio de brilho” ⭐️. Depois de toda essa história e planos, quem tem Fiat 500, ou outro carro, poderia sei lá, me dar dicas de “conservação” ou qualquer coisa que você ache útil mencionar por gentileza? Just a fun post. I get a lot of comments on my car. I absolutely adore my little “Cinquecento.” It’s small but elegant, and has a great sound system for music as well as phone calls. It’s also electric which gives it the right amount of kick off the line when the light turns green. I can throw it into turns and hustle down tight one-ways while being too cute to seriously piss off most bicyclists. I have another car too, but that gets less share time. Finally sold my car after being f****d around by the dealership and their service dept and now looking to get a cheap run around (won’t buy Renault or Peugeot). Already got an electric Mercedes 7 seater so only want a cheap, small petrol car to run to shops etc in which is why the 500 has appealed (budget £5k or less). Also want to learn a bit more about diy fixing the car if needed and teach my son as I learn too so been looking for something not too expensive expensive for parts or complicated. Any past 500 owners on here that can give honest opinion? Don’t care about looks/gender crap, just want to know about how the car runs, reliability etc. Also anything to look for when viewing cars? Edit: Ok after reading a lot of comments screaming no! I’m looking at other options! Thank you for steering me away :) I’m 17 and looking to buy my first car so I was looking around online and found one that seemed like a good option, but don’t know if I should try and buy it. It’s a 2012 fiat 500, and the price is set at 7,500 (Canadian). It had 119k km driven, automatic, and four wheel drive. It says the engine is a “Gas I4 1.4L/83” but I don’t actually know what that means, and it’s average 6.4L/100km gas mileage. Should I look into this car more? So starting off my it's one of my grandparents cars, it's a 2019 with 7000 miles on the clock in automatic form. Overall i have absolutely no idea why you'd buy one objectively, they look cute and are quite nice inside but the downsides are absolutely monumental. First impressions, everything creaks when you touch it and the door cards look very very cheap, the infotainment system looks straight out of 2010. It's also way to small, i'm 6ft and my legs felt so crampt in the footwell, with no-where to put my left foot whilst driving. The rear seats and boot space where abysmal, tried to get someone behind me and it was just impossible without chopping their legs off. Turn on the engine and it sounds decently refined vs the 3 cylinders of it's competitors, although apparently it gets worse MPG than my 2014 Volkswagen Up! by a fair margin. Trying to get it out of my grandparents tight driveway is a chore as the turning circle seems to be absolute crap, struggling with turns which my Up! and even Golf wouldn't have much difficulty with. Out on the open road the handling feels fidgity and upredictable despite being on good tyres and in excellent mechanical condition. The visibility is good but not as good as in a Volkswagen Up!. Giving it a bit of gas and it feels unbelievable slow and the auto box is dim-witted as hell, despite the 500 having 2 more HP and a similar stated 0-60. It was also tremendously uncomfortable and jolty over bumps, just an overall really bad car, i can see absolutely no appeal about them apart from the styling, the interior is built poorly, it drives poorly, it's not that manuevarable and is just completly outclassed by a hyundai i10, Kia picanto, Volkswagen Up! and probably even a C1, Aygo, 108. submitted by /u/Zdos123 to r/CarTalkUK [link] [comments]
