I tried using Figma MCP! Would not recommend!!!
So after 20 people pitching me their own figma mcp that works around or altogether bypass the rate limit I decided to justvuse the figma community mcp. Why I didn’t use the ones I was provided? . Simple reason - I don’t want to be feeding trash to my claude and code base, that I downloaded from a github repo with 3 stars Why is figma MCP not that good- on the free tier you are doing almost double the work on the first few frames - just design is fine the moment you try to add animation or scale to fit screen size you realise that it’s nit that great. I know people are going to come at me and say I didn’t do it properly. My honest recommendation it’s not worth it unless you get a paid subscription from figma. Also it runs out after using it 3-4 times I have not tried the paid figma version yet but It might make my life easier. submitted by /u/No-Yesterday-1624 to r/FigmaCommunity [link] [comments]

A little breakdown of the Figma MCPs
Heyy everyone! Wanted to give you a little breakdown of the Figma MCPs that are out there because it can be confusing, and use cases might be blurry. Check this article first: https://yummy-design-sprint.notion.site/Figma-AI-MCPs-320627914709800bb55dc98b0acea648 Okay! So there are 3 main MCP. And they do very different things. 1. Figma's Official MCP The one everyone knows. You select a frame, your AI reads the actual structure (not a screenshot), and gives you code. It can also capture a live website from your browser and turn it into editable Figma frames. Requires a paid Figma plan. 2. Figma Console MCP (by Southleft) - This one blew my mind. 57+ tools. Open source. Free. And it's the only one that can actually write back to your Figma file. Update tokens across your whole design system, export to CSS/Tailwind/Sass/JSON, batch create variables. All through conversation. 3. Framelink MCP (by GLips) The lightweight one nobody talks about. Instead of giving you React + Tailwind code, it just sends your AI the raw layout data and lets it figure out how to build it. Works on Figma's free plan. They're not competing with each other. They solve different problems. A lot of teams actually run more than one. submitted by /u/kinglukip to r/FigmaDesign [link] [comments]

Open-source. Claude can now design directly in your Figma files.
We connected Claude Code to Figma via MCP open sourced it. Been working on this for a while at our startup. We needed a way to design faster, so we built an MCP server that lets Claude Code read and edit Figma files directly through the plugin API. You describe what you want in your terminal, and Claude builds it on the canvas. No API key needed it runs through your Claude Code subscription, so you never hit limits. We tried getting it on Figma’s marketplace, but they rejected it, so we made it open source. Happy to share the repos and setup guide if anyone’s interested didn’t want to drop a bunch of links and get flagged. https://preview.redd.it/5g2st7tb8ztg1.png?width=2200&format=png&auto=webp&s=be4d0dd20ef68ae4a93fad3a89073231ad1c6c40 https://preview.redd.it/9ljzxloc8ztg1.png?width=5839&format=png&auto=webp&s=572b2d0b1712e96732d477b372f0dd3899053432 submitted by /u/Flashy-Alfalfa-9 to r/FigmaDesign [link] [comments]

Anyone here using Codex + Figma MCP for real frontend implementation?
I’m a developer who works on both backend and frontend, but to be honest, I’m not strong enough to take a Figma design and confidently build the full HTML/CSS from scratch by myself. Right now, our designer gives me the HTML/CSS structure, and I mainly handle the JavaScript side (Vue) and the backend. But I feel like going forward, I need to become capable of handling the markup and styling side too, especially if I want to stay competitive. My assumption is that, for implementing a designer’s Figma and maintaining it over time, using Tailwind is often one of the better options for maintenance compared with writing everything in plain CSS manually. So my question is How realistic is it to use Codex with a Figma MCP setup for this kind of workflow? I’m not looking for “perfect one-click generation.” I’m more wondering whether this is already good enough to become part of a real production workflow. I’d really appreciate hearing from people who are actually using Codex this way. submitted by /u/devbattery to r/codex [link] [comments]

I built an MCP skill for generating and auditing design systems in Figma with Claude Code (open source)
I've been rebuilding an old design system in Figma. The original file had zero variables. Everything was hardcoded colors, magic numbers for spacing, and layers named Group 47. The usual legacy situation. Started doing the work with Claude Code + Figma MCP: created 175 variables with a 3-tier architecture (Primitives → Semantic → Component tokens), set up Light/Dark modes, text styles, and restructured the file. Then moved on to components. After a few days, I noticed I was repeating the same sequence for every component and every audit pass: - Check that variables have explicit scopes (Figma defaults to ALL_SCOPES, which pollutes every property picker) - Add codeSyntax.WEB to every variable (without it, get_design_context returns raw variable names instead of CSS tokens, which breaks the design-to-code pipeline) - Make sure fills and strokes are actually bound to variables, not just visually matching - Add TEXT component properties so label overrides survive component updates - Build spec wrapper frames with state labels (Default/Hover/Pressed/Disabled) and size labels so the variant matrix is readable So I packaged the whole workflow into a reusable MCP skill. It runs in 5 phases: **Discovery.** If the file already has work, it audits first: scoping issues, missing codeSyntax, duplicate variables, unbound fills, text nodes without TEXT properties. If starting from scratch, it collects your brand specs or reads your codebase. **Foundations.** Creates variable collections with the 3-tier architecture, text styles, and effect styles. Sets codeSyntax.WEB on everything. **File structure.** Sets up pages (Cover, Foundations with rendered swatches, component pages with consistent wrapper structure). **Components.** Builds each one with all states, Auto Layout, variable bindings, TEXT properties, and spec frames. The component list isn't hardcoded. It asks you what you actually need instead of assuming a generic "core 10". **QA.** Runs a validation script, builds a test page from system components only. It pauses between phases for review. You stay in control. The audit path (for existing files) turned out to be more useful than the from-scratch path. Most real projects aren't greenfield. You inherit a file and need to figure out what's broken before building on top. I use this skill daily on my current project and keep updating it as I find new gaps. v1.1 already came from testing on the real file. Repo: github.com/natdexterra/generate-design-system MIT license. Works with Claude Code, Cursor, and Codex. If you work with design systems in Figma, I'd like to hear what I missed. submitted by /u/weistigr to r/FigmaDesign [link] [comments]

is designing with Claude/MCP and figma even practical?
I tried it when it came out, it seems so anticlimactic... It's like a junior junior designer that doesn't really know what he's working on. I think it considers this "programming figma" rather than design. I think this approach is different - kind of a design agent that lives inside Figma and knows design. I'd love to hear your feedback if this approach makes more sense. https://www.figma.com/community/plugin/1616481120325792817 submitted by /u/Oferlaor to r/FigmaDesign [link] [comments]

Using AI + Figma MCP to prototype and test faster.
I used to be a front-end dev and moved to UX/UI about 2 years ago now, and honestly i feel like dealing with the maze of interactions after having the components and screens done to make a navigable prototype, causes some delay on my workflow. The idea here is not to make production ready code or pixel perfect prototypes, but to make navigable prototypes based on the company DS, screens and components, just for early user testing. I see a lot of hype around the Claude Code + Figma MCP combo, so i have some questions: What is the state of AI and Figma MCP for this purpose? Is it worth it or should i just study / practice more on Figma prototyping? Which agent are you guys using? Is Figma Make any good? submitted by /u/AnakinRibeiro to r/FigmaDesign [link] [comments]

How has your experience been using claude with figma mcp - Feeding in current design system and making new designs based on it?
I am a solo UI designer working with a startup in the Fintech space. The founder asked me to fully transation to Agentic designing - basically now onwards every new design has to be made by claude and I just need to supervise/make tweek. I dug deeper and set up the remote access https://developers.figma.com/docs/figma-mcp-server/remote-server-installation/ And the tools felt promising - ranging from get_variable to make_design_system_kit or something. I started with getting to know what exactly will help claude to get the right context about the DS, it suggested to re do the DS and provide documentation on component level etc. so we did exactly that (with the help of claude). I made multiple skills file specific to each process. Screen layout logic, resizing, How the name component, define state etc. after setting up everything it still struggle with auto layouts, using the right tokens, overall design. It sometimes mapps the right values and sometimes not - I still have to manually fix everything which takes more time then had I made it from scratch. Am I missing something? Btw I am on a max plan and use the best available modal. submitted by /u/TimeAccomplished5508 to r/FigmaDesign [link] [comments]

Figma prep for two-way MCP
I spent some time today experimenting with AI-assisted Figma workflows and ran into a few unexpected issues. Curious if others here are testing similar setups. My first attempt was installing the Figma MCP server so Claude could read Figma files. That part actually worked fine and was not the problem. The issue started when I tried to install the plugin that allows Claude to post or generate Figma designs directly inside Figma. During that setup something went wrong, most likely a permissions issue. It ended up breaking my Claude Desktop installation entirely. After trying to repair and reinstall everything for most of the afternoon, I unfortunately lost all my local Claude projects, settings, and custom skills. Not the best start. After that I switched experiments and tried Codex. I shared a Figma frame that was built fully tokenized with Auto Layout and then pasted the frame link into Codex to generate code. The result was pretty mediocre, which may well be on my side. My layer naming was probably not structured well enough and I had not set up any real Figma-to-code connection beforehand. I basically just copied the frame and dropped it in as a first test. Now I’m trying to understand what the correct setup should actually look like. Right now I’m confused about how the pieces are supposed to fit together. I also suspect there is some preparation required inside the Figma file itself if the goal is to get close to pixel-accurate code output. If anyone here has been experimenting with this I would be curious to hear: - how you structure your Figma files for pixel perfect figma-to-code translation - whether html.to.design configuration with key is actually necessary or if general MCP integration is enough to go both ways figma to code and vice versa - which tools have produced the most reliable results so far? This was only my first attempt so I assume there is a learning curve here. Would love to hear what others are discovering. submitted by /u/hotzenklotzer to r/FigmaDesign [link] [comments]

I'm new to the Figma MCP world. Looking for useful use cases
I'm exploring how to implement AI into my workflow. I have an established product with a design system, so generating designs is not that interesting for me. But I was positively surprised about the possiblity to run an UI audit in figma designs via e.g Claude, and identify UI errors, inconsistencies etc. Now I'm wondering, what else is it possible? I'm doing my research must I can't find much. Also, how best can I utilize the MCP with jira and confluence? submitted by /u/gggingerbean to r/FigmaDesign [link] [comments]

Useful ways you are using Figma MCP with Claude / Cursor?
I'm exploring what connecting Figma to Claude / Cursor can do, and I found for instance doing UI audits very helpful. Or even connections to Jira and Confluence, is this possible? could it help with documentation? Apart from that, what did you find helpful in your workflow? I'm not talking about generating designs or flows. I work on a product with very established patterns and design system. submitted by /u/gggingerbean to r/UXDesign [link] [comments]

New: Figma MCP lets you Import Claude Code UI directly as editable design frames, details below
Figma just shipped support for bringing UI generated in Claude Code directly into Figma as fully editable design frames. You can: • Import Claude Code UI output straight into Figma. • Iterate visually on layouts and components and Explore multi-page flows on the canvas. • Send updated designs back into Claude Code via MCP. To install the plugin in Claude Code: /plugin install figma@claude-plugin-directory This significantly tightens the loop between AI-generated UI and design iteration & short demo clip attached. Figma MCP is read-only, so I built a write-enabled MCP using code execution
Figma’s MCP is currently read-only, which was a blocker for me. I wanted AI to actually create and modify things in Figma, not just inspect files, so I built a small project called figma-pilot. Instead of adding tons of MCP tools, it lets the AI write and run JavaScript directly with the Figma API. Fewer tokens, easier batching, and way more flexible for real design work. So far it can: - Generate layouts/components from prompts - Batch edit selections - Build design systems from screenshots - And more... It’s still early, would love to hear what Figma workflows you’d actually want AI to handle. submitted by /u/marv1nnnnn to r/FigmaDesign [link] [comments]

Unofficial Figma MCP(Model Context Protocol) server
Hi Figma community, I am the CTO of a software development company: EXDST. We often do website implementation from Figma designs. And we use the official Figma MCP(model context protocol) for it. If you haven't heard about the MCP, the MCP provides the ability to run different tools from your AI agent(LLM model). It means that your AI assistant can make actions, but not only type messages. We found different MCP servers very useful in our work. We found that the official Figma MCP server is only one-way. It provides data from the Figma design document, but it can not change it. That is why our designers said it may be nice if the MCP server were two-way. And we implemented it! Now, you can run ChatGPT, Claude Desktop, Cursor, Windsurf, etc, and ask an AI agent to do something on your behalf: implement components, create variants, or make an order in your design document. It is similar to Figma Make. The difference is that everything happens directly in Figma. It is free and open source! You don't even need a Figma subscription! Let me know what you think! Share your feedback and ideas. What works for you? What doesn't work? What could be improved? And AMA about it! submitted by /u/Antonytm to r/FigmaDesign [link] [comments]

It’s been nice knowing you frontend devs, Claude Code + Figma MCP is the way
I have been a front end noob my entire life but until now. I always abandoned projects because I just never dared to code the frontend, I could just never do frontend. But until now. I’ve been using Claude Code almost daily for backend programming and recently they released remote MCP support, and the first thing I thought about was hooking a Figma MCP with it and finally have a shot at finishing my projects. Props to Sonnet 4 for being so freaking good at frontend coding. All I do now for personal small projects is add remote Figma MCP server to Claude and have it code it entirely. It is not without faults, but it’s a much better Frontend developer than what I can ever be, lol. Certainly, this is not replacing anyone, I love my frontend friends. But it’s so good for people like me. Interesting times. I wrote a small piece on it, do check out for more details: Figma MCP with Claude Code Also, would love to know, your Claude Code + MCP setup, I am figuring out what else can make the programming more productive. I’m a bit lazy, so I will try any automation to make my life easier xD. submitted by /u/shricodev to r/mcp [link] [comments]
