It is cheaper to get others to make stuff than trying to insist on being self-contained. It’s an MMO. Use the M and the M and the O aspects. I know financial literacy is at an all-time low but it’s sad to see in games too. The mats you gathered are not “free”. You paid for them, one way or the other.

Financial Literacy Is STILL At Shocking Lows
I want to say that this post isn’t to shame anyone, but instead is just to illustrate we as a society have not been able to educate people properly regarding the financial tools at their disposal. I work in investments, and I had a client who I’ve never met before come to me and ask to deposit money in her TFSA account. This woman is a native born Canadian, in her mid 50s, with a relatively healthy amount already in her TFSA. I begin to explain the different options for TFSA investing, and she then tells me that she doesn’t want to invest, she just wants the funds in cash savings. I told her I could totally do that, but there will be next to no growth. She then tells me that she doesn’t care about growth, and that she’s just looking for a tax receipt. I had to stop her immediately and inform her that she would not be getting a tax write-off for TFSA investing, and that she would need to invest in an RRSP instead. She asked me if I even knew what I was talking about so I just googled it right in front of her. Then to add insult to injury, I had to inform her that the deadline was March 1, and even though she may be filing now, she cannot contribute anymore. This really flustered her, and she told me she had to call her account. Overall, I was pretty surprised that she had made other contributions before, yet was still unaware of this basic fact. Furthermore, who the hell is doing her accounting? It’s moments like this where I feel we have failed as a society at educating people regarding the basic tools at their disposal. submitted by /u/ReturnToTheLab to r/PersonalFinanceCanada [link] [comments]

Where did you learn financial literacy?
Hi! I’m 25 and I’m just starting what I would call a career job. Somewhere I could see myself staying for the long haul. Maybe not in the same position but definitely for the same company, and my role is union backed, so for once I’m not stressed about layoffs. But I’m realizing I have little to no financial literacy. I definitely don’t budget, and I have no clue how to pick the right retirement accounts. They’ve offered 6 different accounts (403(b), 401 (k), pre-tax IRA, post-tax IRA, 457, etc), on top of the mandatory pension, and I have no idea what to sign up for. I have a pretty hefty amount of consumer debt (about $15k) so I probably should take care of that before even thinking about retirement, but it got me thinking, where does Gen Z go for financial literacy? Do y’all have proper financial education? Were my parents supposed to enlighten me (cause they surely didn’t)? Or is there some podcast, YouTube channel, sub-Reddit that y’all are on that educated you about what to do with your money? Are most of us just struggling and waiting for things to improve before we even attempt to address it? What’s the word? submitted by /u/Far_Situation180 to r/GenZ [link] [comments]

Where is everyone getting their financial literacy from?
Hi guys, Growing up, I didn’t really learn a lot about financial literacy. Money was always a topic of contention in our house. My dad was a businessman but would always make the wrong investments or befriend people who ran away with his money which caused a lot of distress. I should also add that I’m a second-gen immigrant, and it’s important for context because I feel like a lot of people in the same shoes as me never learnt much about money. This caused a lot of poor financial choices on my end when I was younger and was earning money. For anyone who had a similar upbringing to me and didn’t learn a lot about money in their family home, what are some resources & tips you’ve stumbled across that have helped you? I’m tired of being broke. submitted by /u/brandneweyez1 to r/UKPersonalFinance [link] [comments]

19F trying to build basic financial literacy what should I learn early?
Am 19 and I recently realised that basic financial literacy isn’t really taught to us anywhere, especially practical and like real-life stuff. I know I’ll learn things gradually as life goes on, but I don’t want to be completely clueless till something goes wrong. I want to start learning the basics early, things like, managing money properly ,saving vs investing, understanding debt, but not the crypto kinda stuff tho, how big decisions work in real life (buying property, vehicles, loans, etc.), even if that’s for the future As a woman, I also feel it’s important to be financially aware and independent, instead of blindly trusting others to “handle” money-related things for me. I’m not looking for shortcuts or get rich quick advice. what concepts should I definitely understand early? common mistakes people make financially coz of lack of knowledge, anything I must start now? Tho am obviously not earning rn. any books, resources, or skills you wish you had learned earlier Would really appreciate advice from people who’ve already navigated this. Thanks!!! submitted by /u/CancelOld8 to r/IndiaFinance [link] [comments]

How are we learning financial literacy?
Did you self learn? Any tips or recommendations on resources? If you've used a financial advisor, did you find it worth it? For context, I come from a poor family, and have saved a decent amount with the goal to buy a house. I'm making decent money, not rich, but the most I've ever made. I just want to ensure I'm making wise decisions but the internet is inundated with information. submitted by /u/Wise-Print1678 to r/AskWomenOver30 [link] [comments]

Financial literacy among our generation should be the #1 thing on our minds
Stopped in for some tacos and a beer for happy hour at a local spot. 2 guys in their young 20s sit by me, talking about their 401k plans, generally having no idea what they’re talking about. I don’t butt in, I just sit and listen. One guy mentions he’s too afraid to invest, the other guy says something about not opting for their 401k because it’s “safe in a savings account”. Guys, we need to educate ourselves, literally for our own sake. Our parents lived in a much simpler time where they could pretty much autopilot their finances and breeze through a career. We can’t afford to NOT take care our money. All of us seriously need to do some research, and start putting money away in any sort of retirement vehicle we have access to. Whether that be a Roth, 401k or even just a taxes brokerage. There’s a wealth of knowledge here on Reddit right at our fingerprints. We have to start now, or we’re literally going to be left in the dust. Start with any amount! Delay your gratifications and just put money away whether it’s 20 bucks or 200 bucks or whatever! submitted by /u/AdamantheusEnigma to r/GenZ [link] [comments]

People who have surprised you with a lack of financial literacy
I was talking to some co-workers yesterday including a few guys my age that I thought were fairly financially savvy, they both manage side businesses and work with money for our company. I was surprised to learn that neither of them really was that literate in terms of tax-advantaged investing or just general personal finance. I had to walk them through investing in our company 401k program and the differences and trade-offs of using the Roth 401k and standard 401k options we have. One had not been putting any money into any tax-advantaged account and had simply been using a taxable brokerage full time. I know there are those out there who want to build up a sizable investment portfolio outside of the tax-sheltered options for various reasons such as access or time horizons but it surprised me that these two, in particular, seemed to have no clue about their strategy or purpose, they were just missing out. I want to hear some other good examples where someone has surprised you with their lack of knowledge or just general misuse of financials, I'm sure there have got to be some good stories out there. *This was an old post I had that got taken down but is now allowed due to Low Mod January. **Please keep this civil and do not bash the people discussed. submitted by /u/thestopsign to r/financialindependence [link] [comments]
