I was gardening and somehow managed to get dirt in the fold of my flip. Now every time I open my phone I hear it crackling in there. I blow in the seam and it's better for one or two more flips. Anyone ever had a similar problem?

Been using a flip phone for almost a year now, here’s my experience
So I started using a Nokia 2780 as my primary phone about a year ago. I kept my iPhone, as much of society still requires it (mainly paying for parking and tickets for things!! It’s a pain in my ass!), but it typically lives in a drawer turned off unless I’m going out somewhere that might require I pay for parking. Even then, I don’t put my SIM card in it unless im actively using it. I don’t like using my iPhone for long periods of time. Honestly, I don’t think that this would have been possible if it weren’t for my laptop, or my car’s built in gps for that matter. I’m a computer science student so I definitely need a laptop for that. I also use it for tumblr and discord. The laptop is far less addicting than using my phone has ever been, and I find it very easy to leave those websites if I’m on there for too long. Tumblr doesn’t really have much of a “for your” page. I curate my experience by following certain people and tags and new posts aren’t being made often enough to keep me sucked in for longer than an hour. As for discord, I just use that one to talk with friends. I also use my laptop to research anything, find addresses, and to download music onto my flip phone. I also use the hell out of my e-reader. If you want to be a purist about this, go ahead. But this works for me. I feel like there’s more time in the day. Scrolling used to be such a massive time suck, and now I generally feel like I have a lot of time on my hands. And I’m a relatively busy person. I’m part of student organizations, taking 17 credit hours, etc. and even then, I rarely feel like there isn’t enough time to do everything. I enjoy just sitting with my thoughts. I still have a very hard time paying attention to things, but my thoughts feel much more focused. I feel like I notice things that other people tend not to notice. I see a lot more than I used to, because I’m looking a lot more than I used to. It feels special whenever I witness something interesting that I doubt many other people have noticed. Like recently, when I was taking the bus, I saw that the river which my route goes past, had an insane amount of fog over it, to the point that I couldn’t see where the water began. It was really cool, I personally hadn’t seen anything like it, though it’s probably more common than I think. Nobody else was looking out the window, so nobody else on the bus saw. I also notice other people more. I feel much more outwardly observant with the sense of calm which my mind tends to have. I also feel happier. Much happier, and much less stressed out. I don’t itch for the short form content anymore. I’m also much more patient. However, I get overwhelmed much more easily than I used to. I customized my web browser to block any and all distracting or annoying elements, I have a strong ad blocker, my internet experience is very calm. I also use Linux, which is a lot less overwhelming than windows or Mac (in my experience). My flip phone is also a very calm experience. But, this means that when I am forced to use my iPhone for something, I get overwhelmed very easily. I also get overwhelmed by advertisements very easily, like when I’m in public or watching tv at a friends house. I also get sucked into them more easily! I suppose my friends, who have ads shoved in their faces nonstop, have gotten good at tuning them out. I cannot tune them out like I used to. They drag in my focus and frustrate and overwhelm me all at the same time, it’s an overall terrible experience. It’s been a really great time when I’m allowed to be left to my own devices. But, my ability to “handle” much of modern society has greatly diminished. submitted by /u/Tricky_Hovercraft_67 to r/dumbphones [link] [comments]

Anyone make the switch to flip phone?
I thought this might be a good place to ask this. Lately I've realized that I really need to cut back on screentime. Has anyone made the plunge to a flip phone? Do you recommend it/regret it? For anyone wanting a flip phone: my experience after one year
I bought my Motorola RAZR 50 ultra exactly 1 year ago. After 2 months, a little scar appeared across the middle of the screen, but it's quite probably just the screen protector, because it hasn't caused bigger problems since then. Never dropped (maybe once from the couch, 40 cm drop), no cracking sounds and no software problems. Now I'm starting to notice that the battery is dying faster, some days I've to charge it twice. But to be honest, I won't be buying another folding phone. The first month was incredible, I got exactly what I wanted: something new, far from all the other boring phone experiences. I also liked the compact concept, especially when going running or to the gym. But when the "surprise factor" is over, I have spent most of the time worrying about breaking the phone. Always treating it like a baby and thinking if the place I'm visiting on vacation could be a problem for the phone. Not to mention it is impossible for me to assemble this thing into my bike phone mount. At the end of the day, the most common scenario where I take advantage of the bending screen is when I watch some YouTube videos while eating, but it's nonsense since there is always going to be a simple object that you can use as support for your normal phone. For the price I paid (750€), I should have gone for a galaxy ultra instead. So, my final advice for anyone wanting this phone is to rent one for 2-3 months. You'll enjoy it at the beginning but that's all. submitted by /u/redbarclay7kg to r/razr [link] [comments]

Is it worth buying a flip phone?
I want to buy myself a new phone, not just a dialer, but a smartphone, and I saw the Samsung Folder 2, but I'm 9 years old and I want to play some simple games, too, or maybe buy a budget phone. Has anyone gone back to a flip phone?
Edit: I appreciate all of your feedback. To those of you saying to just delete social media, I have. I always find a way back. Or I just pull my phone out for no reason and just tool around with it. Opening random stuff. It is an addiction that I'm trying to break. I know I need a smart phone for this world. I'm going to keep my smart phone for navigation, music, QR codes, etc. I like the idea someone had of switching the SIM between phones, but i have eSim unfortunately. My short plan is to leave the smart phone in my car or bag while out and about at work or whatever, and have the dumb phone on me for calls and texting. I have a the latest iPhone with all the AI and other bullshit and I’m seriously considering getting a flip phone again. Like T9 texting and all. I’ll keep my smart phone of course for music and navigation, shopping, etc, but in an effort to break away from social media and also to retrain my brain. I’m considering getting a flip phone again phone for any calls or texts. Has anyone done anything like this and have feedback? submitted by /u/Suhk-Dolph to r/Millennials [link] [comments]

How my flip phone changed my life
ive had my mive alt folder 2 for 3 months now and its the best purchase ive made this year, please leave a comment if you have any questions!! i want to help as many people as i can that were once in my place The Background : I was scrolling on tiktok and i came across a creator showing off her samsung galaxy folder and i thought that was the coolest thing ever, so i did some research on how a flip phone can reduce your screentime and other benefits, so i started looking for the right phone Why i got a mive alt style folder 2 : i wanted to get a kyocera gratina kyf42 soooo bad, (or any other keitai i thought they looked Aesthetically pleasing, however 1-The switch from a fully working iphone 13 to an older android version seemed like a huge deal to me, and i thought i would "rage quit" immediately and switch back to my iphone, so i wanted something smarter, i wanted a "realistic" switch 2- I speak arabic, so obviously i needed an arabic keyboard,( i installed a third party app) but i figured that would be hard on the Keitai 3- i need google services, i drive a lot so i need google maps, i know you can download a navigator on a keitai, but it wasnt as functional as how it would work on a smart phone 4- my bank app and my uni app :( i need those, wouldnt work on a keitai, as u can tell i wanted a keitai so bad LOL Where i got it from : i got it from koreanbro, , the website is sketchy as hell, and i thought i got scammed when i made the purchase, i highkey panicked and thought i threw my money off the window, (there are so many people saying that they never received the product) So if you want to buy it from there, buy it at your own risk! however i personally got lucky and received it after 3 weeks The Benefits : 1- The screen time : i used to spend 10 hours on my iphone scrolling endlessly and i really hated that, thankfully that fully changed now, it has come to the point where im not forcing myself not to use it, i just happen not to use it, it became a habit ( i usually spend from as little as 10 minutes on it or an hour per day, really depends on it) 2- I get everything i want on it, all apps work pretty fine 3- it has become a tool to help me with life, not a way of escaping : let me explain, i wanted a device that has everything that i needed, whatsapp to talk to my friends and family, my bank app, for well my transactions i guess lol??? i needed to call people, i need it and HELPS me, its a way of helping me through life, not a way of distraction 4- i stopped caring about what others think of me, i used to get stressed out when people would give me looks whenever id make a call in public, (someone once asked if i needed money and i think of that a lot LMAO i know they had good intentions but still) but now, ive truly become more comfortable with being who i am 5- it works in most countries! but just in case check ur carrier first!! The cons : i dont think these will be major cons since well this is a dumbphone community but 1- it is slow, regardless that its a newer android version, i still crashout sometimes when i need to google something in the middle of a conversation and it takes a while to load 2- the battery isnt the best, i carry a charge with me when i need to leave the house for more than 12 hours, especially when i drive and i need google maps (drains the SOUL out of the battery) 3- this is a con for so many people but not for me, its size, it is big, very big. but i use the arabic keyboard on the screen, so i need some "space" on the screen, so yea to me its a pro but to others its a con What i do now : literally everything, im focusing on my studies more, im getting back to my hobbies more, i draw i read i sit with my family more i watch movies now instead of watching multiple reels at the same minute, i do soo much more, and i love it like i said previously, i really want to help as many people as i can, so please dont hesitate to leave a comment if you have any questions! https://preview.redd.it/sxg18lkgfj5g1.jpg?width=1200&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2f24235b4e5fb18709197c2965db8498198b6156 submitted by /u/sadeenqos to r/dumbphones [link] [comments]

Is my flip phone too smart? Or am I too dumb?
Ok so I’m going to a music festival this weekend in Australia and I had the bright idea to get a dumb flip phone in the hope it would still be usable during the inevitable periods of network congestion/outage that mean you cannot find your friends (as few of us have bought flip phones). My understanding is they connect to the towers differently? Because they don’t require internet access? But I just noticed a Facebook app icon on the box and I’m wondering if this means this phone is too modern and I should have gone even cheaper? Forgive my ignorance I don’t really understand how phones connect to modern networks submitted by /u/Practical_Abalone_92 to r/digitalminimalism [link] [comments]

AITA for flipping out on my husband via text after he let his phone die during a family emergency?
So I (34F) and my husband (35M) had a plan this weekend that he would be the next state over for a college reunion while I stayed home with our 1 year old baby. All is fine and well until yesterday right before he was leaving for the party that was at a bar and I got an unexpected call from my parents who also live out of state. I am a nurse so they were asking what they should do with my grandma who called them stating that she couldn't feel her foot and that she was in excruciating pain. I told them to take her to the ER immediately and they said she couldn't walk so I told them to call an ambulance. I called my husband right after and the last update that I gave him before his party was that they were transferring her to another hospital for emergency surgery for a life threatening condition. I was waiting anxiously at home when the surgery was taking way longer than expected (>3 hours). My husband hadn't checked in at all. I got a text from a number that I didn't know that was a drunk selfie of some guy and my husband, with zero context. I texted my husband and said that I was worried sick about my grandma and didn't appreciate getting texted drunk selfies from random people. Heard nothing. After an hour I texted the random number and asked if my husband's phone had died and he said "Yes 😂". Here's where I may be TA, I texted back "Cool, my grandma is still in emergency surgery 😂". I never got a reply to this. About 4 hours later when my grandma survived and was transferred to the ICU I texted my husband how much he had let me down. This turned into a fight where he believes that he he did no wrong because "I knew he was looking forward to this party for two months and he couldn't do anything anyway". I blew up and told him how irresponsible it was for him to get drunk and let his phone die while I was alone with our baby during a family emergency. He apologized for not "checking in more" to which I corrected that he didn't check in at all (not even the next morning) and he says that he "Did his due diligence in making himself reachable" and I said that a random number texting me a drunk selfie does not count as him telling me that his phone was dead and that's how I should reach him. He said the name of the bar in passing a few times but I couldn't remember the name and I did not know the name of his hotel. He says I'm just overreacting and it's not a big deal because "it's not like he could do anything from another state" and that he did no wrong, seeing his friends was important to him and a lot of them he hasn't seen in 15 years and that he shouldn't have to disrupt his plans to "cater to me". I didn't ask him to take the next flight home just be available or communicate that he wasn't. I told him that I was afraid and he could have at least checked to see if I was okay and that it also isn't okay to let your phone die when someone else has your child even without an emergency. So, AITA for flipping out on him? ETA that the emergency happened right before the party so he was sober at that time and aware that the situation was touch and go. I called him immediately after I had my parents call 911. Edit 2: He finally gave me a sincere apology and told me the things that he wishes he had done differently and how insensitive his response or lack of was. We had a long, but overall good discussion and hope that something like this doesn't happen again. Thank you to all the people that offered support! The other update is that my grandma is now out of ICU and on a step down unit, having another surgery tomorrow but is stable for now! 🤞 submitted by /u/PrettyHateMachinexxx to r/AmItheAsshole [link] [comments]
