Ceiling lighting vs flush mount, which actually feels better in a bedroom?
I'm thinking about upgrading my bedroom lighting and I keep going back and forth between a standard flush mount ceiling light and something with indirect lighting. From what I’ve seen, indirect lighting looks more modern and softer, but I’m not sure if it’s actually bright enough for everyday use. On the other hand, flush mounts seem more practical but maybe a bit too harsh depending on the design. For those who have tried both, which one did you prefer in terms of comfort and overall vibe? Does indirect lighting really make a noticeable difference in how the room feels? submitted by /u/Sea-Emu9852 to r/Lighting [link] [comments]

best low profile ceiling light for a room with really low ceilings
Just moved into an older place and the ceilings in the hallway and one of the bedrooms are genuinely short. Like hanging anything with even a small drop is going to feel claustrophobic. So I've been going down this rabbit hole trying to find options that sit flush or as close to flush as possible. EDIT: Finally pulled the trigger, warm light and actually sitting flush were the two things I wasn't willing to compromise on and this one delivered on both. I've looked at a bunch of stuff online and honestly it's hard to tell from photos how much clearance they actually take up. Some of them say flush mount but then you read the specs and theres still like 5-6 inches of depth. Trying to find the best low profile ceiling light that actually looks decent and isn't just a builder-grade white plastic disc. The bedroom especially, I want it to feel like a real room not a rental afterthought. Budget is pretty flexible, probably up to $80-100 per fixture, maybe a bit more if it's worth it. Main things I care about are that it actually sits close to the ceiling and that the light quality isn't that harsh bluish LED look. Warm white is what I'm after. I've seen some that look nice in photos but reviews say the light output is really dim so that's another thing I'm trying to avoid. Has anyone found the best low profile ceiling light that ticks those boxes - close to the ceiling, warm light, decent brightness? What are you actually happy with? submitted by /u/Dead-_-Alone to r/HomeDecorating [link] [comments]

best dimmable ceiling light and I'm losing it
been trying to figure out lighting for my living room for like three weeks now and I'm genuinely exhausted by it. I just want something that dims properly without flickering or buzzing. that's it. that's my whole request. but apparently that's impossible because every time I think I've found something good I go down a rabbit hole and find out it hums at certain dimmer percentages or it only works with specific dimmer switches and then I have to research THAT. EDIT: Three weeks of research and flickering was the thing I refused to compromise on, ended up going with this one and it dims cleanly across the whole range. my current light is this old fixture that doesn't dim at all and honestly the vibe in the room is just harsh and terrible at night. I want to be able to actually chill in there without it feeling like a dentist office. the flickering thing is a dealbreaker for me personally, I get headaches from it. has anyone actually found a ceiling light that dims smoothly across the whole range without any weirdness? I'm not trying to spend a fortune, somewhere under $100 ideally but I could push a little higher if it's actually worth it. I've looked at a couple of the flush mount options and one of those semi-flush ones and I honestly cannot tell from reviews which ones actually dim well vs which ones just technically dim submitted by /u/Peanutskillsme to r/Lighting [link] [comments]

Indirect ceiling lighting vs flush mount LED lights for bedrooms?
I’m thinking about upgrading the lighting in my bedroom and recently came across some modern flush mount LED ceiling lights that use indirect lighting instead of shining straight down. The idea of a softer glow bouncing off the ceiling sounds really nice compared to the typical bright ceiling fixture. I’m mainly looking for something that works well for relaxing at night but still bright enough when needed. Has anyone here installed indirect ceiling lighting or a flush mount LED ceiling light fixture in a bedroom? How does it compare to regular ceiling lights in terms of brightness and atmosphere? I found an example of the type of light I’m talking about on Amazon and added the link in the comments. Would love to hear your experiences before I decide. submitted by /u/Material-You-2593 to r/Lighting [link] [comments]

Hanging Ceiling Lights
As I was hanging the first of three flush mount ceiling fixtures today, I was frustrated that I had to hold the fixture in one hand while connecting all three wires with the other - I really need both hands for that! Retrofitting can lights - just lights or flush mounts
I'm slowly going through the house and replacing lights with smart lights where I can. I've got a couple upstairs areas done with some simple automations and really like the results. I've got a finished workout room in the basement with 8 or so can lights in the ceiling that's next on the list. I've used the Phillips flush mount upstairs and really like the look, but just screwing in some smart spots is dead simple Are there specific advantages to going with the flush mount other than general aesthetics? I do like the look, but kind of hard to beat just screwing in a new bulb. Thanks! submitted by /u/Craino to r/smarthome [link] [comments]

Trying to install an LED ceiling light- are we missing a part?
Neither I nor my amateur electrician helper are familiar with this setup. I'm trying to replace an old flush mount light with an LED light, and we couldn't make heads or tails of it. Trying to identify 4" flush-mount ceiling light (bathroom)
One of my LED 4" flush-mount bathroom ceiling lights is burnt out and I'm looking for a replacement. I'm not sure what kind of jack this is, I had bought some that have a two-prong jack but had to return them cause they're not the same to plug in. I wouldn't be able to pull out the junction box and rewire it, so I need to find one that fits. Does anyone know what type these are and where I can find them (in Canada)? From my research, it seems like these are not the standard used in Canada, but they were already installed in my condo when I bought it (built in 2019). *Edit: Really appreciate everyone's help with this. Many people are mentioning to check the driver; I can't pull it into view, feels like it's secured down. I also know basically nothing about electrical work so I don't want to risk breaking something. I swapped the burnt out shower light for a working one from the kitchen, and it works in the shower as well. I'm assuming this means it really is just the LED itself and not the driver/junctionbox submitted by /u/Jibby_jib_2112 to r/AskElectricians [link] [comments]

Remove ceiling fan and replace with ceiling light?
I am going to remove a ceiling fan and replace with a flush mount ceiling light. I am trying to make sure I have what I need before I start. Generally speaking can I use the same electrical box the old fan used for the new ceiling light? I assume it’s heavier duty for the fan and probably connected to the joists for support, but any other difference that I couldn’t use it for a light? Or should I replace the box? Frameless cabinets with flush under mount puck lighting tips?
Cabinetmaker here. I'm in the planning stages of a very high end job that involves one ceiling/soffit hung peninsula cabinet. I've got everything planned out for that engineering wise, but one of the sticking points for the design is to have flush mounted under cabinet puck lighting (like the photo attached). The cabinets are frameless (non negotiable) with overlay doors, and they do not want light rail or any sort of trim under the boxes. Looking for a smooth clean look when seated and looking up under the boxes. The cabinet in the photo is the general idea, but they utilized a 1/4" applied panel that is hiding the wire runs. That is beneath the level of quality we're shooting for. I was reading a few things online about using a hollow sort of box sits inside of the cabinet on the bottom to cover the wiring and is hidden by the bottom rail of the doors. Does anyone have any experience with this specific instance? And before anyone says it, no, they do not want LED light channels. No light rail, no pockets. My problem to solve at this point (sadly). submitted by /u/MyFavoriteSandwich to r/cabinetry [link] [comments]

Does anyone know how to mount a flush light fixture to this?
First time homeowner here, unknowingly bought a house with K&T - romex hybrid. The service panel is upgraded along with the receptacles, but i discovered the light switches and lights are all still K&T. Went to replace a dome ceiling light and came across this. Not sure exactly how to mount the new light as the mounting bracket does not line up with the old box. The previous dome light was secured via a 3" woodworking screw going into the center of the threaded post. I tried using this kit from Lowes with no success as the hickey was too small and wouldnt fit around the threaded post. I assume a larger hickey would work but im sure someone else has seen these before. Ceiling light recommendations.
I'm looking for some recommendations for ceiling lights that work natively with HomeKit. I have a new build and every single ceiling light is one of these monstrosities. I'm debating between replacing them with HomeKit native flush mounted lights or if it would be better to replace them with a standard E26 fitting and use HomeKit lightbulbs instead. There's 9 of these in the main living area so I'd be looking to keep the cost down as reasonably as possible. Which option would you guys go for and what products would you choose? submitted by /u/Humble_Convert to r/HomeKit [link] [comments]

Why are Amazon LED flush mounts so much brighter (and cheaper) than Home Depot/Lowe’s ones?
Planning to replace the old fixtures in the house I'm renting (in agreement w/landlord), as per my earlier post. I did some calculations and estimated lumen needs for each space (screenshot attached). It seems like each space would benefit from a ~3000-3500lm fixture. Here's what's got me very confused - when I look through the "pancake" surface flush mount LEDs: At Home Depot, Lowe's and other "mainstream" sellers - they are about 15-21" diameter and max out at ~2100-2400lms, for about $60-90 for 1 fixture. For example. But, when I look on Amazon - there's plenty of 3000-4000+lms ones, starting as small as 12", and sold in packs of 4-6 packs (rarely singles) for the same price as a single at HD etc. For example. Why are the more "mainstream" options so limited in lumen output compared to Amazon, and much higher in price? Are the Amazon ones just lower quality or inflated ratings, or is there another reason? https://preview.redd.it/ucx1ticj5zpf1.jpg?width=840&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=56129c7ff0fe4c46fc81cd35a99777172627846b submitted by /u/OlegRu to r/Lighting [link] [comments]

Which lights to install in our entry hall: pendants or semi-flush mounts?
Debating between pendant lights versus semi-flush mounts. This is for our entryway, so you could consider it our foyer - but it’s really just a hallway and therefore is small (house is an 1800s townhome that was later split into three units, so there’s lots of quirks!) All else being equal I think I prefer the pendant lights, but my fear is that they will make an already small space feel too crowded. Ceilings are about 10 feet iirc. First two images are chatGPT mockups, second two are of the actual space (looking at the front door) and final image is the viewpoint from other way, standing outside of the unit and looking in. Finished the 2nd floor of my garage into a Home Theatre and Gym.
Finished the 2nd floor of my garage. After around 6 years of living at my current home I decided to finish my 2nd floor of my detached 28x28 garage into a Home Theatre/Gym. Started with running the wiring, 3 outlets per wall. Then insulated with R13 in the walls and R29 in the ceiling. Next was 55 sheets of 9/16” drywall, followed by drywall finishing. Next was the flush mount lighting. After that was paint, trim work and lastly some laminate flooring. I was able to complete it all myself in 1.5 months of weekend work. submitted by /u/Rubberbanmanezz to r/DIY [link] [comments]

My garage transformation over the past 12 months
Here's my 3-Car garage transformation over the past 12 months. Moved into my house in August 2023 and started the garage build a month later in September. When I bought the house, the garage floor had lots of cracks and wasn't in the best shape. The color inside was this ugly light brown and there were only 2 lights for a ~800 sq.ft. space Started off by pulling all the old stuff out and then painted it white. Prepped the floor, footings and got it coated with polyaspartic. Lights came next, decided to go with dimmable potlights and added additional 3 way switches near both man-doors. I have 2 motorcycles and a summer only car (live in Canada) so I wanted to get a lift to store my vette. This way my wife can park her SUV underneath my car in the winter and there's still lots of room for my bikes and my truck (usually the truck stays on the driveway). My ceilings are just under 11.5ft tall so I installed side mount openers. Now both doors sit about 4 - 5 inches from the ceiling when they're up. Lift is a 4-post (8000 lb capacity) from a company called Lift King (Calgary, AB). My cabinets are also from a Canadian company called Hayley (Calgary, AB). They weren't cheap but the quality is probably unmatched. As long as you take the time to level everything out carefully, installing them wasn't too bad with a second set of hands. I've always loved the look of a corner set but there was a gas line that protruded out so I had to do a build out with 2x4's. Also added some extra electrical while I was at it. With the cabinets not being flush to the wall, I had to get filler strips. Hayley provided the fillers for the side of the cabinets for free but for the top they wanted an absurd amount of money so I just went to a place and bought some thin gage stainless, measured out the bolt holes, drilled them and installed it. They look like a near perfect match and I saved myself a pile of cash. On the back right hand side, I have hot and cold water. I put more cabinets there with a sink. Once again, Hayley wanted a lot of money for the sink cabinet so I just got one from Costco that's the exact length of the cabinet right above it and after tying it all in, it doesn't look bad at all. I wanted a hose reel as well as an electric pressure washer set up so I ran some more lines and got another couple hose bibs set up. Now I got water supply to the sink, hose reel and pressure washer. It's super convenient and does the trick! The backsplash for my cabinets is proslat slatwall, black carbon fibre design. For the walls, I used light gray proslat. I also put in LED light strips under my upper cabinets to give the work bench more light. Garage has two big floor drains so I can wash my vehicles inside if I wanted too. There's a lot of other little miscellaneous stuff I did to make the space function the way I want (wall mounted recycle bins, a fridge, ceiling mount extension reel, etc) but I think I mentioned all the major stuff above. I now have 13 total 15a electrical outlets and also a 50a outlet for a welder. For those of you about to hate saying no work gets done; you couldn't be more wrong. I work on all my vehicles and bikes myself. I've only been in this house for a year but my old place had a similar "done-up" 3-car garage with polyaspartic floors and there were a couple big projects done in there. You can have something be showroom nice and still get shit done in it. I'm pleased with the way its turned out. It's mostly done now, just a few odds and ends left to go! submitted by /u/StonkRizz to r/garageporn [link] [comments]

We know most of you already know about the Ceiling light as it was available early at some locations (and there's been lots of awesome posts showcasing your installs!), however, we're happy to announce that the LIFX Ceiling has officially launched in all stores as of today! https://reddit.com/link/1dol9f9/video/e0tk2hvc5u8d1/player "LIFX is introducing its newest smart home lighting innovation – the Indoor Integrated LED Flush Mount Multi-Color Smart Wi-Fi Dimmable Ceiling Light. With 2500-2850 lumens of brightness, innovative visual effects, industry-leading SuperColor technology, and a power consumption of only 47 watts, this streamlined LED ceiling light brings a wider range of lighting experiences into your home within a sleek, minimal footprint, offering an array of lighting effects that elevate modern smart home trends. Perfect for a bedroom fixture or sleek enough for a passthrough hallway, this smart ceiling light provides a compact design and superior lighting performance that will surprise and delight. Homeowners can choose from an endless library of exclusive visual effects, such as: Fluffy clouds that carelessly float by, as if being pushed by the wind An overhead sky with cosmic meteors streaming past An invigorating sunrise to start the day and a glowing sunset to relax into the evening Abstract art with shapes that twist and turn in delight All these dynamic visual effects are available, via the mobile app, to set the mood and inspire imagination. And while it’s easy to get swept up in these immersive effects, LIFX’s SuperColor technology offers another level of customization, offering a brightness superiority five times greater than competitors, ensuring unparalleled performance and dramatic true-to-life colors that can be scheduled, customized, or dimmed with simply the touch of a button. Similar to the new indoor and outdoor LIFX products released earlier this year, the Integrated LED Flush Mount Multi-Color Smart Wi-Fi Dimmable Ceiling Light integrates seamlessly with modern smart home systems, including Google Home, Amazon Alexa, and Samsung SmartThings with compatibility through Matter, the latest universal standard of smart home connectivity. This allows for effortless control and endless customizable possibilities throughout any smart home ecosystem. Using voice control or the convenient mobile app, available on iOS and Android, users can easily activate unique lighting experiences showcased by the LIFX app. With one click, you can control full color, dimming, and automation for the up-light separately or turn the illuminated surface off for low-lighting situations Available in matte black or white, LIFX's Indoor Integrated LED Flush Mount Multi-Color Smart Wi-Fi Dimmable Ceiling Light is now available exclusively in-store or online at The Home Depot with a starting price of $89.97." submitted by /u/lifx to r/lifx [link] [comments]
