Looking for recommendations for glass food storage containers that actually last. The Pyrex ones I have the lids last 2 years and then begin to crack. I was the last kid to leave home. I was an oops kid and my older brother and sister were in high school when I was born. After I finished university I asked my parents if I could stay at home to save up. They agreed so long as I paid for my own expenses and contributed $300 a month for food and utilities. Good deal for me. I then fell in love with a friend's neighborhood of little houses. I found one for sale and grabbed it. My parents downsized immediately to make sure none of us could ever move back. Okay that is facetious. They are retired and were tired of Midwest winters. My brother and sister are both married with children. My folks supported me and helped me get established in my career. I love them and am super thankful for everything they did for myself and my siblings. I asked them if they could please put my china cabinet, china and cutlery into storage with their stuff. They said they weren't going to get storage and were getting rid of everything they weren't going to use or store in their new place in Arizona. I asked if they could store the stuff for me and they said no. I got a couple of friends and we moved it into my new house. My house was built when the railroad was a bigger deal. They built entire neighborhoods for their workers. Tiny little houses with decent size yards for gardens or kids. So think 600 square feet. No basement. It still has a clothesline. A couple of months after I moved in I had a housewarming party. I had exactly four if everything from IKEA. Plus one pot, one pan, and an air fryer. So I used my fancy plates. My friends aren't children so none got damaged. Afterwards I realized that I had stuff like serving trays and gravy boats. Everything an adult needs to adult,l. Regarding food service anyways. So I just use them all the time. Mostly when I have people over but also when I have not done dishes and I want to not eat out of takeout containers over the sink. I was face timing with my folks and eating and they noticed that I was eating off a Royale Wedgewood Precious Moments plate using Ming Dynasty Imperial silverware. I may have some terms wrong here but you get the point. Mom asked me why I was using that plate and fork to eat. She said it was only for special occasions. That it was an heirloom meant to be cherished and protected for generations. Not exaggerating here. That's what she said. I told them that they were my plates and I would use them however I wanted. They got very upset and hung up. Then I got calls from my brother and sister. They both admitted they only called because mom told them to. They said to do whatever I wanted. They said that they weren't huge fans of fancy china but that mom had insisted it go on their registries. We hada big laugh and I promised to tell mom they told me to save my nice stuff for a Royal visit. My mom actually ordered me an eight person set of cheap china to use every day. Ok, I’ve been convinced to stop storing food in bps and phthalate free plastic. Apparently food-grade silicone is also toxic. What about stainless steel food containers? Does that have its own issues (leaching)? I’m assuming most stainless steel food containers are made in China, and I wonder if a lot of low-grade steel is used in the manufacturing process. So I know this question has been asked a bunch but I havent really found what I am looking for. I want a food storage container that is fully glass (both the body and the lid) and is also easy to clean. The issue I have had with pretty much every one of the containers with plastic lids is that the gasket will become moldy over time since it isnt able to properly dry if water gets behind it, so I am left pulling the gasket out every time I wash which is a pain. That also kind of scratches the plastic off and I feel it could be a source of microplastics which I am looking to avoid. I am kind of looking for the equivalent of a Weck jar where everything is glass and easily comes apart, but in the square form factor if that makes sense. Ok I need advice after an incident happened for the first time ever. You'll see what I mean in the pictures I shared... Anyone here with dogs, do you have a recommendation for any thick plastic containers to be used to store dog food/treats in a garage that apparently has a couple mice or rats, whatever is going on... This is the first time I've ever seen this. We have been dog sitting for a while and we have a container in our kitchen pantry with dog food but the excess food we store in a plastic container outside... SEEMS THIS HAPPENED! How the hell did they get through the plastic... It is a hard plastic but not as thick. I'm thinking a typically hard plastic container like the one we were given when we took the dog in.. So I brought this sweet boy home yesterday, along with his foster sister. I put them both in the basement to keep them separate from my other two cats while we try to integrate them. Now I haven’t seen him in well over 12 hours. And I’m low-key freaking out. I have a fully finished basement and I use some areas of storage some of it as work out. For a while, I know that he was sitting behind some paint cans, but he’s definitely not there and I just don’t know. Is it possible he climbed the walls and got behind the drywall? There is not an exit to the outdoor so I have to assume he’s hiding, but I haven’t laid eyes on him. I just don’t know what to do here he has a voice and I haven’t heard him crying at all. I’m trying to be very patient knowing he’s just being very shy or at least hoping that. Any thoughts or ideas would be greatly appreciated. UPDATE: Sorry couldn't figure out how to update on my phone. Anyway, not a lot of good news. He did come out briefly, and made it upstairs with a huge freak out. Like sliding across the hardwood floors, hiding behind the couch kind of freak out. He made it back down to the basement and I haven't heard or seen him since. I did come home last night to one of the cat carriers that is on the very top shelf on the floor. And behind that shelf is an open area of drywall. :( I have no idea if he got up there or not (my husband had left a step ladder there from when he tried to look over that the first time he was missing, so he definitely made it in that direction.) If I was to guess, since that entire shelf was filled with cat carriers, and one hit the floor, he likely didn't make it. But I honestly don't know. He hasn't made a sound. I would tear the effing drywall down if I needed to, but I just don't know where he is. I feel like I've looked everywhere in the basement. So now I am just trying to watch the food dish and hope for the best. I'll give him more time of course, not that I have a choice. But at some point, I will just open the basement door and see what happens. Honestly, I am so stressed and devastated that I did this to a sweet cat. I know he's shy and I'm not to blame but I can't help but feel responsible. UPDATE Number 2: The last time we saw him saw Friday night. Today my brother came over and went top to bottom in the basement. He saw his head pop up in that little space at the top of the laundry room that I was worried about. Fortunately, it has a ceiling/floor from where he got in, so he's safe back there! YAY! My brother only saw him for a second, but he saw him. He's up there, as expected, and likely not injured. We put food, water, a blanket (he apparently was sleeping on the insulation) and a camera up there. I haven't laid eyes on him yet, but I trust my brother's eyes. So, I will wait patiently. I did close the door to that room so he is more contained, and gave him some options to exit hopefully safely down when he is ready. But the best part is, I know he's alive! What would you all recommend as quality food storage containers that are microwave safe and dishwasher safe, bonus if they are freezer safe. I have a variety of plastic ones that are good for specific needs (never microwaving) and glass ones from pyrex and anchor. All of them are about 7 years old.
