I’m kicking myself for not discovering this sooner. Just a recap from my original post, I grew up with everyone in my life telling me never to put fingers on my face, always use sponges and blenders. I never questioned it, always used a sponge or blender to apply foundation. But I’ve been getting frustrated over how much product is absorbed in them, and annoyed at having to spend a chunk of time washing my sponges. Plus with makeup getting more expensive and me being on a really tight budget, I need to stretch things and make them last. So I ditched the sponges, blenders and started using my clean, washed fingers to apply foundation and oh my god. My makeup looks so good! My face practically stopped breaking out(!!), my foundation is lasting longer, and it’s faster to apply. It’s amazing, I’m never going back. I still have a small stash of sponges for if/when I need them but don’t plan on using them often at all. I know this is such a small thing and people are probably like “yeah, duh you can use your fingers” but it genuinely never occurred to me. it’s been a great change and I’m so happy that I wanted to share. This isn’t to convince anyone that this way is best because different methods/applications work for different people and it depends on what makeup you use. Since everyone wanted more pics, here's the whole basement and some more info. The house is in Winnipeg. Built in 1914. I moved in in September 2024 because I am close with the upstairs tenants and their downstairs (main flooor) neighbor was moving out, so I thought it'd be a good time. I saw the cracks then, but nobody seemed too phased by them so I didn't think too much of them. I don't think they've gotten worse since then, but I don't think that should make me any less worried now that I'm aware of the danger. Last fall, there was a sewer line that broke and flooded some of the basement so its even worse down there 😭💀 (For the record, it's much nicer upstairs, its only such a crack-den that I use to store stuff in the basement) I will be making moves to leave this place, but it's a shame because the house has a lot of charm (minus the hell pit of a basement) and I love living here! I don't know if I can leave as promptly as people are saying I should because I have pet rats in a big cage that isnt easy to transport and I've got a business trip coming up march 3-10. I will openly admit that my monkey brain is struggling to feel the urgency because it's been fine for at least two years in this mangled state but I know that's illogical. But what can I do when I've got nowhere to go with my pets? 😭 In fact I am really scared but I don't know what to do.
