Fragrantica is hilariously unusable now
I’m sure this is old news, but I‘m out of the loop on almost everything. I used to spend hours a day on fragrantica until a few years ago. But some recent revisits made me laugh out loud at how hilariously unstable and unusable the website is now. It’s as if the flood gates for ads were completely blown off the hinges, more than any owner or staff member would have knowingly agreed to, and now the whole thing is being held together with duct tape and old bandaids. It’s just one ad away from blowing into oblivion and crashing forever. submitted by /u/Deelystandanishman to r/fragrance [link] [comments]

What's going on with Fragrantica?
I’ve been hearing people talk about problems with Fragrantica, the perfume site, but I don’t really know what’s happening. I just want to understand why users are upset, why some are leaving, and whether the site is doing anything concerning. Can someone explain what’s going on? Edit: Thank you for the replies everyone. I didn’t know about all this going on but there isn’t a place for it anywhere let alone a fragrance website. I’m unable to turn off comments but I’ve heard all I’ve needed to hear about the issues. submitted by /u/RabbitSea4627 to r/fragrance [link] [comments]

is it just me or has fragrantica become basically unusable
tried to look at the notes for a perfume I remember from childhood and keep getting the same amazon ad every 3 seconds. like as soon as I exit out the SAME ad is back taking up my entire screen 2 seconds after, I can’t even get a look at the page. I’m on mobile so I don’t have an ad blocker and have just resigned to not using fragrantica anymore. thankfully parfumo had what I was looking for. anyone else getting constantly assaulted by ads there? I feel like there used to be almost no intrusive ads so suddenly having a pop up that takes over the whole page and won’t let me scroll is crazy. it’s like they don’t want u to use their website submitted by /u/angelsfish to r/Perfumes [link] [comments]

Fragrantica vs Parfumo vs Basenotes vs Wikiperfume
I have been using Fragrantica for more than a decade and enjoy how many features it has. But like many here know, the web design is utter trash and super dated. I was searching for why that is the case on this sub (new here), and while I don't have an answer about why there is no update to the UI on the website, I learned that the creators/owners are pro Trump, anti LGBTQIA, and other undesirable things. This is terrible! What a shock. I would like to consider switching to Parfumo, Wikiparfum (both I just learned about it today on this sub) or Basenotes, but their functionality doesn't seem as broad as Fragrantica. On Fragrantica, I can search for fragrances with specific notes, and omit others (like a cedar fragrance that doesn't have leather). I figured out how to do this on Parfumo, but not the others. I can also click on an ingredient and get every single fragrance in their database that uses that note. I can't find this functionality on either alternative. Also, Fragrantica's note pyramid is visually rich and gives one a good idea about what a fragrance smells like, at a glance. The others are just not as helpful to look at, for me. Wikiparfum comes close. Plus, some users on here mentioned how both Parfumo and Basenotes don't have as many fragrances in their database and are hard to add new fragrances to. It doesn't seem that there is one alternative that beats Fragrantica in scope of functionality. Are any of these features in the works on Parfumo or other sites? How do you work around the limitations? I also read on here today that Basenotes isn't really being updated anymore and people are leaving? Or that reviews on both sites are older and less up to date. At the end of the day, Fragrantica is an encyclopedia and tool for me to look up scents, keep track of my collection, and search for new scents off of notes. I don't like their ethos, but Parfumo doesn't seem to "beat" Fragrantica yet. This isn't even taking into account the slog it would be to transfer all the fragrances in my collection, wishlist, or hundreds of reviews to the other sites. How did you make the transition? Did you pick one site or maintain accounts on all of them? Are you happy with your decision to stop using Fragrantica? Do you still use Fragrantica? Do you think the competitor sites will surpass Fragrantica one day? And what community do you frequent the most? Again, I just learned about some of these websites today, so if they truly have all the same features, please let me know. I just haven't seen the same amount in my preliminary exploration. submitted by /u/EnergeticCrab to r/fragrance [link] [comments]

Fragrantica is stuck in 2010 and we’re all pretending it’s fine because we have nowhere else to go
I don’t know who needs to hear this (Fragrantica devs, maybe? If they’re still alive?) But let’s be honest: Fragrantica is basically the Facebook of perfume websites. It hasn’t evolved in a decade, the interface feels like it was last updated when Twilight was still in theaters, and yet... we’re all still here. Why? Because the community is unmatched. It’s the first place I go to check what people think of a perfume, and also the place that makes me question how a site this big can still be this dysfunctional. Let’s start with the obvious: No dark mode. In 2025. No custom lists. “I want it,” “I had it,” “I have it,” and “For test.” You want to make a list like “blind-buy safe,” “regret pile,” “summer bangers,” or “I bought this because of TikTok and now I suffer”? Too bad. Search is hilariously unforgiving. Misspell a single word? You’re out of luck. Threads? A nightmare. Hard to find, hard to follow, and somehow look like they were coded in a dream someone forgot halfway through. You can write blog posts, but good luck navigating them. Or finding them. Or having anyone ever read them. Some of the most basic, popular perfumes are just missing. Not obscure stuff. I’m talking Lattafa, Zara, things people are actively searching for. Why are they not there? And the “small updates”? Maybe they’re happening, maybe they’re not. Honestly, if something changed on the site, I wouldn’t notice unless it smacked me in the face. That’s how subtle it is. Don’t even get me started on the multiple versions of the site. Fragrantica.com, .ru, .fr, .it — they all look the same, they all act the same, they even share vote counts — but somehow my account doesn’t carry over? I can’t log into Fragrantica.fr with my Fragrantica.com account, and I think that’s genuinely insane And yet, it’s still the first place I go when I want to know what people think of a new release. The crowd is unbeatable. Where else are you going to find 84 conflicting takes on the same bottle, ranging from “heaven in a spray” to “smells like death and a wet sponge”? That’s the magic. But honestly, Fragrantica feels like that one store in town that only stays open because everyone else closed down and it’s too late to build anything new. I’ve tried Parfumo (great data, no soul), Basenotes (nerdy, but... aging badly), and other smaller sites, but they either lack the crowd, the speed, or the sheer chaos that makes Fragrantica fun. It just sucks to see something with this much potential be so outdated and frustrating to use. I just don’t get it. It’s not like we’re asking for a complete redesign. Just the bare minimum: modern features, better search, working threads, and the ability to sort our collections. So yeah, I’m still on Fragrantica. Still scrolling. Still reading reviews that are somehow both poetic and completely incomprehensible. But I’m also quietly screaming into the void. If there’s a better place — or even a decent petition to get Fragrantica to evolve — point me to it. I’ll bring my whole “I want it” list with me. If anyone’s building a new platform or has a better alternative, I’m ready. Just give me community, chaos, and custom lists. I don’t think that’s too much to ask. submitted by /u/Weak_King_5762 to r/Perfumes [link] [comments]

Can we all collectively agree that Fragrantica is a trash website
I think we can all agree that fragrantica is an ad infested, horribly designed mess of a site. It hurts to look at. I feel like anyone with even an ounce of design background could produce a much more polished, refined and aesthetically pleasing website. I hate using it it’s so god awful. The search function is trash and it’s just infuriating to have to use it. PS: SOMEONE PLEASE CREATE SOMETHING BETTER Edit to say this: everyone is saying adblocker. I totally agree and is 100% valid. Screw ads. Hilariously though if we didn’t all use them they might actually have enough capital to pay a developer to clean up their sloppy 2010 mess of a website. Still, screw ads submitted by /u/Zestyclose-Sea-4527 to r/fragrance [link] [comments]

What’s the deal with Fragrantica?
I’ve seen people saying they really hate it and that it’s a controversial choice for perfume research. What’s the controversy? Also, does anyone think they’ll make an app one day? (edit) the consensus: DON’T like Fragrantica because… •of the political affiliations of the owners (far right) •how they push this agenda on the site •the intrusive advertisements •the way these ads slow down the function of the site •inaccurate information about perfumes •favoritism shown by the site DO like Fragrantica because… •it’s a large catalogue •the social element •conveys information well through visuals and pictures •lots of information regarding the quality of a fragrance Misc. •there is an app, but it doesn’t work well •‼️everyone suggests Perfumo instead‼️ submitted by /u/Nervous-Treat-9252 to r/Perfumes [link] [comments]

Switched from Fragrantica to Parfumo (And You Should Too)
Three weeks ago I did my first review on Parfumo, now I have 7 reviews up and my future reviews will be posted to Parfumo, no more to Fragrantica. Overall Parfumo is the most modern and best-engineered perfume site from a software perspective Fragrantica vs Parfumo is a bit like Twitter vs Bluesky - the established platform with the big userbase has owners abusing their ownership of the platform in bizarre, outlandish ways. Parfumo isn't a tiny hipster site though to be clear, for example Cedrat Boise (popular in the perfume world but not mainstream) has 1,848 ratings, whereas it has 10,767 on Fragrantica. So with a userbase several times smaller, taking your activity there helps boost its community content factor The one downside I see is that the note pyramid isn't quite as graphic as Fragrantica's, making it a bit harder to tell at a glance the nature of the fragrance - hopefully they improve this aspect. Some people complain the reviews are page-long poems or so forth, but you can help that issue by adding your own reviews that are more straightforward - I'll keep on adding more submitted by /u/ArseneGroup to r/fragrance [link] [comments]

Happy to report it was very easy to get my Fragrantica account deleted.
I wrote "Slava Ukraini" in the comment section under the recent article on the orange man's perfume. My account was gone in a couple of minutes. Edit: Those of you who are looking for a similar website, I recommend Parfumo. I moved my reviews there too to help grow their database. Parfumo also has some nice features that Fragrantica doesn't. For example, it allows to analyze your perfume collections and identify which notes or scent profile you like most. submitted by /u/FoxMeetsDear to r/FemFragLab [link] [comments]

What the hell is going on with Fragrantica?
I first joined Fragrantica a couple of months ago hoping to learn more about scents and fragrance. It was only a couple of days before I noticed something odd. On the same day that Wikileaks founder Julian Assange agreed to a plea deal with US prosecutors and was free, Fragrantica changed the logo of their site from “free to choose” to “Julian Assange free” changing their logo to Julian Assange’s face. Now, after the apparent assassination attempt on republican candidate Donald Trump, Fragrantica is posting an article about his fragrances Victory Cologne and Victory Perfume as if they’re brand new releases, and referring to Trump as “President Trump.” Commenters from each side of the political spectrum seem to be disgusted with this article but Fragrantica seems to be deleting comments. Are these strange political tendencies and bending of the truth normal for the website? Or is this a new thing? I am so glad that another Redditor here has introduced me to Parfumo as I really don’t want to support Fragrantica anymore. submitted by /u/Lana_bb to r/fragrance [link] [comments]
