After losing my right arm, I refused to quit gaming and designed my own one-handed controller
(*EDIT: added the landing page to the project idea at the bottom of the post, since a lot of people were asking to find it) I lost my right arm in a severe accident. one of the hardest things to lose was gaming. Standard PC Gaming assume two hands keyboard in one hand, mouse in the other so i was screwed basically. I tried different setups, but nothing gave me the control and speed I wanted. so I started experimenting. I bought a Razer Tartarus as a proof of concept, modified the controls, literally hot glued a mouse to the side, remapped inputs, added a strap and built a rough one handed setup to see if full keyboard + mouse gaming with one hand was even possible. It worked. that first prototype let me move, aim, click, shoot, and use abilities again. It was pretty ugly, but it proved the concept worked. i can play basically anygame now. fast paced FPS, mmo, rpg, etc... once I knew that, I started designing a proper version from scratch. I took the Tartarus-style layout, cut it in half, mirrored it into a universal housing, added a built-in mouse sensor, hand strap, support system, and extra inputs to create a true one handed gaming device. the goal was simple: integrated mouse control full keybind access ergonomic comfort for long sessions ambidextrous use reduced hand travel built for actual gaming what started as a necessity turned into something I think could help a lot of people: one handed gamers amputees players wanting a compact setup disabled gamers kids with physical limitations who still deserve to play games too I just wanted to game again. now Id love to get this made for kids with physical limitations and disabled gamers who need better options. Reached out to a vendor about a gaming mouse and the lack of Linux software
Since my BIGGEST Linux issue has been rebinding mouse buttons, I decided to reach out to a vendor that was selling Redragon. I asked if the mouse side buttons could be rebound in Linux. They answered that they couldn't. But then they also said this: Thank you for your question! The mouse itself is fully compatible with Linux and should work without issue. However, please note that the software used for customization and configuration is not supported on Linux. We understand your frustration and will certainly consider this in future product developments. If you have any other questions or need further assistance, feel free to reach out! I answered that I had been working on this issue within Linux for about year. As gaming on Linux has exploded in recent years there are a LOT of gamers that need software. Then I thanked them. They responded with: You're very welcome, and thank you for your valuable feedback! We truly appreciate your suggestion, and we will definitely consider developing Linux-compatible software to support the growing number of Linux gamers. Your input helps us make our products better for everyone. Maybe they were placating me. But my thought is that we need to ask for what we need. I also joined a MASSIVE thread on the Razer Naga site begging for Linux compatible software. Razer didn't respond to ANY of the many, many comments asking for software. That thread is about a year old. I'm thinking about starting a new thread essentially tapping my watch and asking them WHEN??? submitted by /u/tranquilseafinally to r/linux_gaming [link] [comments]

After losing my right arm I started designing a one-handed PC gaming controller so I could keep playing
sup guys 5 years ago I lost my right arm in an accident. the thing that hit me almost immediately was how difficult PC gaming became when every setup assumes keyboard in one hand and mouse in the other. i tried a lot of different workarounds but none of them really allowed full control, so I started experimenting and eventually built a prototype device called ERCHAM MK1 heavily inspired from devices like the Razer Tartarus keypad, the concept here was redesigned from the ground up specifically for true one handed control rather than just being a stationary keypad. the idea was simple: combine the keypad and the mouse into one device so a single hand can handle movement, aiming, and abilities at the same time. some of the design ideas: optical mouse sensor on the bottom so the device moves like a mouse programmable key layout similar to a gaming keypad stabilizing strap so the hand stays aligned with the controls ambidextrous layout so either hand can use it It started as a rough DIY project just so I could play again, but after tuning it for a while it actually works surprisingly well for things like FPS, MMOs, and games with lots of keybinds. Im curious what the PCMR thinks: If you had to play mouse + keyboard with one hand, what game would you try to optimize a setup for first? submitted by /u/Adventurous_Tie_9031 to r/pcmasterrace [link] [comments]

Customer tried to get me detained today
While shopping a Target order I got an add-on offer that was $10 for an extra mile with only 1 item. No brainer, right? What a fool I was. As soon as I turned off the main road with this guy's overpriced Razer mouse, I saw the gates and realized that this was a restricted area. I've talked my way into gated communities before by simply showing the guard the order, but there was no guard there. Obviously I wasn't supposed to just waltz in, but there was no one there to stop me. Then I realized what I was actually looking at. Those were the gates for the on-base military housing. Trespassing would be a federal crime. I know you can upload your military ID to do base orders, but I'm just a civilian. I should not be there. I messaged the guy and asked if the address was correct. He tried to play it off like he was only next to the base, even though his address was clearly inside. When I wouldn't back down, he finally agreed to meet me outside. I told him "sorry, but I'm not risking my freedom over a gaming mouse." He told me that it was fine because there usually aren't guards around that time of night. Why would I ever risk it? For $10? Go to hell. Do not pass go. Do not collect $200. The ramifications of what he was asking me to do hit me in waves. Best case scenario if I was caught, the guard would escort me out and ban me from the base. Worst case scenario, I get shot. Average case scenario, I get detained by military police while my car gets searched. The audacity of customers never ceases to amaze me. submitted by /u/The_Meme-Connoisseur to r/doordash [link] [comments]

Was messing around with Reddit data on gaming mouse. Thought I’d share the results. Its part of one of my projects to tinker with Reddit data and LLMs. Wanted to create something useful for the community while levelling up my coding chops. The idea is to highlight which gaming mouse got the most love. To be clear, most love =/= best. But hopefully its a useful data point nonetheless, especially for those overwhelmed by info. I actually posted a version of this ~6 months ago. A lot of the issues that the previous one had should be fixed (limited to models on Amazon, erroneous model attribution, duplications). Lemme know what you think! Obviously this is a very general list. It does gets more interesting when you slice and dice the data. The 2nd and 3rd images are filtered for comments about FPS and MMO respectively. If you want to explore the data and filter more stuff (price, subreddits, comments about topics e.g. FPS, MMO, small hands, big hands, durability), you can do so at RedditRecs (dot) com (or google “RedditRecs”). I have been using this Razer Basilisk V3 for many years. Held up great over the years I use it for fast paced shooters like: CSGO 2 and COD BO6 it still performs great. submitted by /u/Aks9242 to r/IndianGaming [link] [comments]

How long does an entry-level gaming mouse usually last?
I got a Razer DeathAdder Essential for $15 a few weeks ago. I've been using it as my daily productivity mouse and I can say that this is easily the best mouse I've ever used in my life. This is the first gaming mouse I've owned and I'm very impressed by its performance. That being said, I plan to use this as my daily mouse for all my computer-related tasks in school and during my free time. My computer is a MacBook Air and I prefer to use the DeathAdder instead of the trackpad. I'm pretty old-school in the sense that I prefer to use mice over laptop trackpads for day-to-day use. Anyway, I don't intend to use the DeathAdder for gaming (at least for now). I'll probably only use it for daily computer work in school such as Excel, Word, as well as for browsing on sites such as Google, Youtube, and Netflix. Aside from this, I also plan to use the DeathAdder for basic graphic design projects on Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. So yeah, how long do you think my mouse will last if I only use it as my daily mouse for school and for some graphic design projects? submitted by /u/joshuamarkrsantos to r/buildapc [link] [comments]

Can any daily users recommend a gaming mouse that will last longer than a year?
I have been gaming a long time (20+ years) and am finally fed up with brand name mice breaking after a year... They used to last a helluva lot longer, even the cheaper ones. I have been through too many brands and models at this point, and it seems like within 3 months on either side of the 1 year mark, they break. Most common issue is double clicking on right-click, left-click or middle mouse button (even if there are multiple). Another common issue is mouse scroll jumping in the opposite direction. Once I get fed up I take them apart to clean and troubleshoot but 85% of the time they are just done... I have also tried as much software trouble shooting as I can and I know most companies warranty process at this point :S My latest defects are 2 Roccat Kain Aimo 120's. One is mine, which has a double clicking issue on the middle mouse button. The other is my wife's, which has the mouse scroll jumping in the opposite direction. Both are 11 months old. I usually buy 2 at time, one for her and one for me, and it's rare for one to really outlast the other, seems regardless of usage. I have reinstalled both Roccat and Windows drivers, changed computers and the issues remain... So please, recommend me something that doesn't have more than ~7 buttons, intrusive software and will last longer than a year :) ps - I do not slam my mouse when I get mad at games ;) EDIT: A few things I've noticed so far in the comments: Conflicting reviews on new-gen Logitech products, even the higher end (silicon lottery meets good warranty; quality issues in mass production) / G502 is popular af Razer products have gotten better, but Synapse still sucks (some models have on board mem. to avoid this) Red Dragon, while cheap in price, have lasted users a long time Corsair Harpoon seems to have a lot of fans! not a lot of chatter about lesser known companies like Zowie (i consider them big), Mionix, etc. Optical switches = new hotness? (people seem to have an issue with the feel and sound) avoid the very common low end Omron 50M Look into soldering or no-solder switches as an alternative people seem to be enjoying the new-gen Steel Series and the Glorious Model D/O EDIT 2: Seriously, thank you for all of the responses! I have not made a purchase yet but have narrowed it down to about a dirty dozen. I plan to narrow it further by matching hand size, grip style, weight and features I want. submitted by /u/Cablex66 to r/buildapc [link] [comments]

Getting a Gaming Keyboard and Mouse as a Bday gift - have about 200-300 to spend
Hey everyone, So getting a family member a wireless gaming mouse and keyboard for their birthday - but I have no clue what is considered good these days. He definitely wants a mouse with quite a few shortcut keys on it + a sturdy keyboard, both wireless. Keyboard doesnt have to be mechanical, but it can be if you guys think its worth it. Does anyone have any suggestions on a keyboard mouse combo or individual keyboard and mouse that will come out to around 150-250, even up to 300 bucks? thanks for any help, I appreciate it submitted by /u/RockBandDood to r/buildapc [link] [comments]

LPT: Try buying a gaming mouse even if you don't plan to game. The extra buttons can be easily mapped to basic tasks such as cut, copy, paste, etc. which can come in quite handy. Living with the obnoxious RGB lights has to be the trade off.
