She is with an amazing foster mom and I will be applying to adopt her after her future kittens have found homes. —- She’s in my office, separated from my other cat and dog (who had surgery to remove a soft tissue sarcoma 6 days ago and is still recovering), with a warm bed, a litter box, and food and water. 🫶 I was certain she’d have a microchip and if it was my baby I would want someone to get them scanned. It was 8:20pm. So I put her in a box and kidnapped her from Lowe’s and went to my local emergency vet to scan for a chip. No chip! But her nipples were slightly puffy so I asked the vet if she could be in heat or pregnant and sure enough - ultrasound confirmed 3 very well developed kittens. I’m near Tacoma WA so I’ll look at taking her to Burien CARES if an owner or long term foster cannot be found. Took to Reddit a couple weeks ago with my garden bed and got alot of good feedback. We moved it away from the fence as far a possible, we removed 6-8” of soil and mixed manure and other soil with the below 6”. Laid chicken wire, trimmed and stapled it to the wood sides, put a 12” deep center divider and secured the corners with a 2x4 that’s buried 8” below the soil level so blocks won’t separate on ends! We have about 18” above the chicken wire which came from “black earth compost”. We’re happy with it for beginners. (I do plan on adding a lip all around it and building a dome cover for it) Thank you for all your advice. I just asked for some advice about prepping for winter and people seemed to like it so thought I'd show some before and afters and a breakdown of what it cost. I'm a first time gardener and my inspiration was a national trust flower garden. I honestly didn't know what I was doing so in hindsight it can be broken down into: Design. Just thought about what might look nice and elongate it so focused it around a curving path and wanting a small grass patch. Time. I Spent a lot of evenings and weekends doing it which I had the luxury to afford and not everyone can. Research. I knew I wanted a National Trust feeling garden so looked up how they do it, checked out the colour of their paths etc. to match it. Reddit - looking at previous posts here! People - I have a lovely small independent garden centre nearby and took a sketch of my planned layout, and the owner spent about an hour with me suggesting plants to go in certain places and how to lay it out. Then I met a lovely lady on Facebook marketplace who sold plants and gave me lots of advice about planting and heights and seasons etc. Costs Breakdown - The decking was rotten so I spent about £100 on that from a local timber yard. I fixed the shed for free and gave it a lick of paint - £30 Dug up the whole garden by hand - Free The log borders for the path (more than I wanted or expected) but about £120 - £4 per 1.2 metre roll, about a 12 metre long garden Weed mat for path - £8 Gravel for path - about 25 bags of golden gravel from my local garden centre 3 for £11 - £90 Elderflower Tree - £11 Plants - £200 or so. I avoided b&q and homebase etc. and found people selling stuff on Facebook marketplace, car boot sales, my independent local super cheap garden centre Compost and Bark Chips - £50 In total about £800! I could have done it cheaper if i'd wanted i.e. using a cheaper path border, bulk buying gravel, getting things secondhand, buying smaller plants or growing them from seed and having it take more time to look like this. I dug this garden in Spring 2024 with very little gardening experience. I couldn't go broke filling it, so I challenged myself to learn to start things from seed. I used soil blocks, a spare bedroom, and a delusional sense of how much garden I could manage (kidding, I love it!). The last pic is from this spring, before everything exploded. I started my garden late from nothing but grass and weeds at the first of May to what it looks like now by direct sowing. Unfortunately, I didn't think about leveling the soil before marking out and working on rows and beds. Now I've got a low side and a high side. I also never started any seed starters at the beginning of the year because I had surgery and recovery. But next year should be better now that the physical garden is done.
