The nail grows from the cuticle so you don't push it back too aggresively or cut them. When the polish, gel or not, comes too close or on the cuticle it hinders the nail growth. I didn't see the host's nails but if there's a big space and gel nails, yes a fill is needed.

For the longest time, I thought nail polish just wasn’t for me. No matter what I used, my nails would chip within 1 to 2 days. Sometimes even the next day. It got to the point where it felt pointless putting in the effort, especially with brighter or fun colors. I actually stopped wearing nail polish for a long time because it was so disappointing. 3D printing files have been uploaded to maker world! 2026 Nail polish tracker - Free 3D Print Model - MakerWorld Files currently available anywhere from 3 to 9 swatch spots per month, and with borders or no border A few things you may want to know: I print the swatch cylinders in white (PLA), clear would be fine but will need more polish layers to be opaque The "swatch painting holder" is what I stick the swatches in to be able to hold them and paint them more easily. I like how it looks to paint the sides as well as the top. Then I remove them when they are dry and stick them into the board. You should print only a cylinder or two to start so you can adjust the size before you print a bunch! I intended to design this so the swatches would snap into the board and wouldn't fall out. Last year some of my swatches were too small, so I just used super glue or a dab of topcoat in the bottom of the hole to secure those. The swatch file I uploaded is a tiny bit bigger than the one I printed last year, but I expect they will turn out slightly differently for everyone! How they fit may also depend on which side of the swatch you plan to paint - I painted the top, and the bottom often had a little lip that helped them stay in. If you want the swatch to be even height with the borders/text, don't adjust the height dimension. If a swatch is stuck in the board that I want removed, I just use a wire cutter or something similar to pull it out (something sharp will crush and grab on to it easier so you can pull it out) Speaking of which side you paint on, u/shayter had the idea to sand them or apply a builder gel layer if you prefer a smoother surface! I printed the new 6 spots with borders using transparent PETG base and transparent blue PETG letters, it printed well but the letters didn't have as much contrast as I wanted! I tried painting the letters with nail polish to make them pop a little more! All that is to say, it's definitely an option to print the text and borders in white and then paint them :) In 2025 I printed my base in clear PETG and the borders/text in PLA without changing print settings between (edit: thanks to the folks in the comments who told me PETG and PLA don't work well together!). Eventually the borders started to delaminate from the base, but none of the text delaminated. So, I'm not sure if the delam was due to the settings/materials or the how thin the borders were. I made the borders thicker on the 2026 design (1 mm increased to 1.5 mm) I've included a "no swatch cylinder" which is what I put in the board when I had empty spaces. Or, whatever size you end up printing your swatches, just decrease their height by 2 mm for the no-swatch version. I think that's all you need to know, I hope it works for you!!! Don’t buy products from Amazon to put in or on your body. That was my cardinal rule, and I got distracted by a beautiful gel nail set with the most prettiest colors for such a low price. My lesson has been learned in a very expensive way and I’m not talking money. Notice the Band-Aid on my thumb. Both thumbs are awful. The polish is in the trash at this point. I am waiting on a prescription to be filled for fungus just in case. Is there anything I can do? Besides just wait? Kind of a rant. So I've stopped getting my nails done since the shutdown. I just never went back and started doing them myself. We'll I just found out I'm 8 weeks pregnant and my husband was like "you should go get your nails done again. Just go relax." Can someone tell me why getting gel instead of regular polish is an additional $20 on top of the service? I remember when it was $5, then $7, then $10. Like I get it, everything is getting more expensive but this place still uses all the same old equipment. What the hell? They don't even let you soak your little fingers anymore. It used to be so chill but now it's so stressful. Like they got electric sanders that I know are usually for acrylics out here when it used to be so simple, quiet and elegant as an experience to just have a simple manicure with some gel. I used to be a huge fan of gel manicures but upon reading that the LED light they use to cure the gel nail polish can actually age the skin on your hands faster, i stopped doing it na. There are UV gloves naman na you can use supposedly but i didn't want to risk it na. During my latest trip to Tokyo, I decided to use stick on nails nalang (see photo) and wow, it exceeded my expectations. The nails lasted for 4 full days (and i had to remove them nalang when i went home). Di nabali, or natanggal...and my nail beds are still fine! I used yung adhesive na parang sticker type instead of glue. My adhd brain loves cute nail polish colors and all the possibilities for designs. The displays in the drugstores used to always get me, and I have a big collection of nail polish, decals, nail crystals, you name it. I used to watch YouTubers and get all the supplies they recommended. But I've gotten realistic with myself. I never paint my nails. First, it's hard for me to maintain focus to actually paint them nicely. Then I can't seem to be patient when they dry and not mess then up. And of course picking at the nail polish as a stim messes them up. So it's gel at the salon or nothing for me (even then, getting my nails done takes foreverrr). I got my acrylic nails done yesterday. My tech uses “gel” nail polish in different colors, and also uses a thick clear gel as a glue for rhinestones and charms. The paint is applied, and after you stick your hand under a UV lamp for 45-60 seconds, it’s hard as a rock and completely dry. What is happening during that 1 minute “curing” process? Why does a higher UV wattage (160+) work faster?
