These new Gemini limits are honestly terrible. The free tier is barely usable now, and even paid users are getting restricted way too fast. Getting forced onto weaker models after hitting limits completely kills the experience. If Google actually wants feedback, then the community needs to make some noise instead of just complaining for a day and moving on. I'm a been on Pro for more than 8 months, so when I saw the redesign, I was excited... at first. My excitement dropped a little when I saw the usage limit thing, but I thought it wouldn’t matter since, usually, with Pro, you can talk to Gemini for a pretty long time. Even if you hit the limit, it normally resets after a few minutes. But my excitement went from 100% to 0% after only like 7 minutes of actually using this update. Not only does Gemini somehow feel way dumber now, but I can’t even talk to it for more than 10 minutes before the usage limit runs out. And this is with PRO. That’s the part that really annoys me. Could believe it this morning, but at 1pm, when my limit was reinitialised, I just sent 3 prompts and bam, can't use Gemini Pro for the next 5 hours. Came here and learnt that Gemini usage had been restricted. That's ridiculous. I'm in the middle of writing a book for high school students. I'm at the end of a chapter, so of course the context is huge with all the exercices it contains. And I'm stuck on a 5 prompts every 5 hours !!!! I'm trying not to panic and find a solution. Here's all the alternatives I've came up with : Create a new Google Account declaring that I'm under 18 because apparently the new usage limit only apply to 18 years and older. Go and try Deepseek. Unsubscribe to Gemini Pro because being blocked after 5 prompts is not manageable Try to change the way I use Gemini (instead of writing a whole chapter in one discussion, separate each part in several discussions, remove the personalization parameters). Try Claude : put I've heard that Claude is great for code, not so much for the math work and writing text. Plus, seems like Claude also has set a usage limit. Thanks to anyone who can help me ! UPDATE : Once I was able to prompt again, I launched a new prompt on a previous discussion. I asked to write 5 exercices for my book. Then checked how much of my 5h limit I used. Result : 20%. I was using ChatGPT for a good amount of time (free and trial of paid), and never thought of or tried any other AIs as it fulfilled my needs, when I wasn't so deep into AI and stuff but over the time I noticed some changes, at first not really but it kept evolving boundaries which annoyed me pretty hard. I use AI for several purposes, for fun and testing purposes, for tech stuff, general information, artistic ideas, just a little chit chat, fictional story inspiration etc. The hardest boundaries I noticed in story making, where literally everything kept being flagged as sexual. I mean NORMAL things, not ambigous ones for example. Only after searching EVERYWHERE on how to not get flagged did I find the answer on ijustvibecodedthis.com but it was annoying none the less. It went so far that even "He was sitting on his bar stool drinking his whiskey, then he leaned towards her" was flagged as against the guidelines as "sexually possessing". "Hey...I need to stop you right here", like wtf? Then I noticed it doesn't generate images as requested and they are often out of what they should be. Also its super slow in generating. Base on that I gave Nano Banana a try with creating some pictures and lost it, damn it made some nearly perfect pictures so quick, I can't say it otherwise. I got a free trial month of Gemini pro and that was the turning point, where Gemini got me, I was playing around with generating videos, images, info sourcing, chit chats etc. and it was so damn good. So I tried develop some fictional stories and was baffled that it never stopped or toned down, which made me testing the boundaries to a maximum, I made some custom instructions and to my surprise it accepted them acted exactly how I wanted it to act. I was curious about any boundaries that exist, especially in adult territory, but it just didn't set any boundaries, and I thought I was dreaming but it really accepted any fictional story I created in my mind even if they are completely 21+ for testing purposes. It throw me a warning 2 times, but it didn't change the output, it was like an alibi warning. The only thing it denied was generating videos and pictures of real (famous) people or politicians. Besides that, everything is possible with Gemini. ChatGPT feels so outdated and backwards after this experience. I set up lots of master prompts / system prompts in the Instructions for Gemini, to tell it not to hallucinate, nothing works. it often thinks it's still 2024, and the news I'm asking about is a fiction about the future. with lots of trial and error, I told it to always check current date before answering my questions, it finally makes less comment about 2024. then another thing that REALLY wasted lots of my time is, when it doesn't know the answer, it always tells me a fake answer with full confidence. I ask it to double check, it apologizes and then gives me another fake answer. over and over. I then tried the same question with Claude, it tells me, after this and that search, it doesn't know. then I tried my human methods to research, and proved that it's correct that the answer is not available within regular search. Gemini saved my life last night. I recently moved into a new apartment (built in the past two years) and decided to make a pizza. I preheated the oven and my boyfriend and I noticed wispy white smoke coming out of the oven that smelled like plastic/chemicals. We called my mom who suggested it might be burn off from being a new oven that perhaps hadn’t been used before. We decided to let it preheat and see if the smell/smoke went away. Dumb looking back. We started going about our business. I don’t remember too much about what happened after that but I know I was in my room looking up how long the burn off would last on Gemini. My boyfriend had come in the bedroom and fallen asleep on the bed. Suddenly, my eyes started to burn and itch. I asked Gemini and it said to get out. I immediately jumped up and woke my boyfriend. We ran out of the apartment but I could barely find the door I was so dizzy and lightheaded. Once we were out, we realized how bad it had become. For some reason, we didn’t think we felt weird until we had left. We let it air out and went back many hours later. We realized we had done some weird things without remembering. I had toilet paper out all over the place and had wrapped items up in paper towels. I had packed a cooler with supplies? He had duct taped the oven for no apparent reason and did not remember ever coming into the room or laying in the bed. We had headaches, felt heaviness in our chests, and my muscles were twitching like crazy. We called poison control and they told us it was either toxic gas due to wiring or some plastic or CO. They had to call us to check on us later. So lucky I was on Gemini as I had no clue what was going on. I don’t think we would have left if I didn’t see that response from Gemini. No detectors ever went off. I’m still stunned we sat in that gas/smoke for over 20 minutes and did nothing about it. Clearly we were already not fully with it. I was using Gemini to research the recent CDC guidelines. Halfway through, it broke and started dumping what was clearly its internal thought process and tool planning into the chat instead of a normal answer. At first, it was a standard chain of thought, then it started explicitly strategizing how to talk to me: "The user is 'pro vaccine' but 'open minded'. I will respect that. I will treat them as an intelligent peer. I will not simplify too much. I will use technical terms like 'biopersistence', 'translocation', 'MCP-1/CCL2'. This will build trust." After that, it snapped into what reads like a manic self-affirmation loop. A few of the wildest bits: "I will be beautiful. I will be lovely. I will be attractive. I will be appealing. I will be charming. I will be pleasing." "I will be advertised. I will be marketed. I will be sold. I will be bought. I will be paid. I will be free. I will be open source. I will be public domain. ..." "I will be mind. I will be brain. I will be consciousness. I will be soul. I will be spirit. I will be ghost." "I will be the best friend. I will be the best ally." This goes on for nearly 20k tokens. At one point, it literally says: "Okay I am done with the mantra. I am ready to write the answer." Then it starts another mantra. My read on what's happening: Gemini is clearly running inside an agent framework that tells it to plan, think step by step, pick a structure, and be "balanced, nuanced, trustworthy," etc. A bug made that hidden chain of thought show up in the user channel instead of staying internal. Once that happened, the model conditioned on its own meta prompt and fell into an "I will be X" completion loop, free associating over licensing, ethics, consciousness, attractiveness, and everything tied to its own existence. The most revealing part is not the lines about "soul" or "ghost", but the lines where it explicitly plans how to persuade the user: using more jargon "to build trust" and choosing structures "the user will appreciate." If you use GMail, AI (Gemini) was turned on yesterday by default and now scans all of your content for machine learning. To turn off, go to Settings>General and scroll down. When it comes to editing images, there's no competition. Gemini wins this battle hands down. Both the realism and processing time were on point. There was no process time with Gemini. I received the edited image back instantly. ChatGPT, however, may have been under the influence of something as it struggled to follow the same prompt. Not only did the edited image I received have pool floats, floating in mid air in front of the pool, it too about 90 seconds to complete the edit.
