I tried to edit some images using Gemini today and those are the answers it gave me. The images may be a little different from each other because the conversation was in Portuguese and I used the Nano Banana Pro in photoshop (the irony) to translate into English. If they're going to companies they think will lose to Google, their shares in OpenAI and Anthropic will be worthless. Second, joining OpenAI and Anthropic at this stage likely will yield relatively little equity. Third, both of these people likely hold substantial amount of Google shares already. Noam's company was acquired by Google for $2.7b. It makes far more sense financially for them to stay at Google, and possibly become billionaires helping Google win. If they're motivated by money and think Google will win, they'd stay at Google. They're likely motivated by money but don't think Google will win. Gemini co-lead, Noam Shazeer, is leaving Google to join OpenAI as announced last Wednesday. Speculative hat here. Google arguably has one of the richest stores of data than any other company. Seeing the recent debacle with Claude Fable as well as the constant Claude/Codex competition, I kind of feel like Google is staying out of the hot seat even though they probably have the ability to crush both of them on just the sheer amount more data they likely have over the other two. Feeling as though they probably have something massive behind the curtains but not really prioritising themselves to that market but of more to the casual masses. Anyone else feel the same? I want to like Gemini. I genuinely do. Google has Search, YouTube, Gmail, Drive, DeepMind, decades of NLP research and more compute than most countries. On paper there is no reason any other AI should be beating it. And yet here we are. The thing that bothers me most is not that it gets things wrong. Every model gets things wrong. What bothers me is that Gemini does it confidently, with citations, in a tone that sounds like it just won a debate. It mixes outdated information with fresh search results and presents everything with the same level of certainty. That is genuinely dangerous for people who trust it. Then there is the personality problem. Gemini does not have a consistent voice. Ask it something straightforward and you get a structured list. Rephrase the exact same question more casually and you get a completely different depth of answer. It feels like the model is reacting to surface patterns in how you write instead of actually understanding what you need. You never know which version of it you are getting. The Google Search integration should be its killer feature. Real time information access while every other model is stuck with a knowledge cutoff sounds incredible. But in practice it often feels like the model searched something, skimmed the first two results and then improvised the rest. The sourcing is inconsistent and the synthesis is shallow. I have also noticed that on multi step reasoning tasks it loses the thread in a way that surprises me for a model at this level. It gets step one right, step two right, and then somewhere in the middle it quietly drifts and delivers a conclusion that does not match the premises it just established. And it does this without any visible uncertainty. The whole product feels optimized for looking impressive in a demo rather than being reliable in actual daily use. After using Google Gemini as my primary AI tool for a long time, today is the day: I have officially cancelled my subscription. The direction this model has taken in recent weeks is simply no longer acceptable to me. The New Terms of Service: A Step Backward The new Terms of Service are a prime example of how Google is pushing its AI further into a conformist but completely useless "safe zone." It’s no longer about progress, but solely about minimizing liability—at the expense of users who pay for professional performance. These new Gemini limits are honestly terrible. The free tier is barely usable now, and even paid users are getting restricted way too fast. Getting forced onto weaker models after hitting limits completely kills the experience. If Google actually wants feedback, then the community needs to make some noise instead of just complaining for a day and moving on. This might be the most underrated AI capability I've ever seen, and Google seems almost like they're avoiding mentioning it. for example: Gemini can watch ANY YouTube video You can upload a video and ask questions about it Using the Live feature and letting Gemini guide you through websites This completely changed how I learn new stuff or get feedback. I'm constantly throwing videos into Gemini and asking for advice or the full script. I use this for a recipe app I'm building that gets the full recipe from the video, and because it's so OP and can literally get the recipe even without captions or audio, every time I show someone they're like "wait, WHAT?". The craziest part? Google barely promotes this. It's like they stumbled into their own killer feature and didn't realize it. While everyone's losing their minds over benchmarks, the video analysis is quietly doing things that feel like actual magic. So genuinely, what am I missing here?
