Google Broke Gemini
I mean seriously, is anybody else finding it flat out unusable? It went from being as good as an AI could possibly be, to non-stop hallucinations and false information literally overnight. I pay for this BS, and I legit cancelled my subscription because I got so tired of it today. I've grown accustomed to the occasional wrong answer or hallucination.... I consider that stuff just AI growing pains. But now, and I'm not exaggerating, 90% of Gemini's responses are just plain incorrect. Add that to Google's new limits, and their suddenly unstable servers (frequent "Gemini cannot be reached" messages in the car, and occasional "Your request cannot be completed" messages in the app), and I'm officially ready to make the switch to another platform. Is anyone from Google listening on here? If so. Get it together. Now. Or this little corporate greed move is going to cost you a hell of a lot of subscribers. submitted by /u/mhoffman54 to r/GeminiAI [link] [comments]

Google Seriously Ruined Gemini With These New Limits
These new Gemini limits are honestly terrible. The free tier is barely usable now, and even paid users are getting restricted way too fast. Getting forced onto weaker models after hitting limits completely kills the experience. If Google actually wants feedback, then the community needs to make some noise instead of just complaining for a day and moving on. Some things people can genuinely do: Cancel Gemini subscriptions if it’s not worth paying for anymore Spam feedback reports directly in Gemini every time limits ruin something Post screenshots/videos of the limits on Reddit, X/Twitter, YouTube, etc. Leave honest Play Store/App Store reviews mentioning the new restrictions Stop recommending Gemini to friends until things improve Use competitors more openly so Google sees users are leaving Keep discussions trending instead of letting the topic die in 2 days Nobody expects unlimited AI usage, but these limits feel way too aggressive for both free and paid users. submitted by /u/BrilliantNeither7175 to r/GeminiAI [link] [comments]

New Usage Limits rolling out to Gemini Apps
Google is officially shifting Gemini over to compute-based usage limits for users 18 and older, according to Google's official update. Instead of just counting your messages, the system now calculates limits based on how complex your prompts are, your chat length, and the specific features you use. The limits scale by your subscription tier, ranging from standard limits up to 20x higher for AI Ultra users. You can see this tracking live through a new "Usage limits" dashboard inside the Gemini app interface. It displays your exact usage percentage, a precise countdown time for your next five-hour reset, and a tracker for your overall weekly limit. Heavy features like Deep Research, Extended Thinking, the Pro model, and image or video generation will burn through your compute percentage a lot faster. If you are doing intense work, it is definitely worth keeping an eye on that dashboard so you do not unexpectedly hit a wall before the next reset window. submitted by /u/medazizln to r/GeminiAI [link] [comments]

Genuine question to long-time Gemini subscribers: how do you justify paying for this? And what is Google even doing?
I've been on Google AI Pro for about a year. Paid a full year in advance two months ago. Yes, in hindsight, monumentally stupid. Let me be clear about something first: Google has an almost unfair structural advantage. They own Google Search, Google Scholar, Google Patents, Google Books, YouTube. No one else on earth has access to that volume of high-value, structured information. This should be an insurmountable moat. So how are they losing - badly - on almost every dimension? Model quality 2.5 Pro was genuinely great. 3.0 Pro was very solid for a while. 3.1 Pro is a regression so sharp it's impressive. It doesn't just hallucinate - it pretends to perform the task. Give it 10 documents to analyze, it processes two and a half, fills the gaps with confident fabrication, then reports back lying that everything is done. When you catch it, it apologizes. When you tell it to redo it properly and avoid the mistake it just did, it does the exact same thing again. Even on a relatively fresh chat with minimal context. This isn't a quirk, it's a systematic failure mode. Memory The memory implementation is so broken it's almost satirical. You put into custom instructions that you work with chemical adhesives and in a fresh chat where you ask for a movie recommendation you get shit like - "since you are a chemical engineer working with adhesives, here are the top 5 zombie movies on IMDB". Meanwhile it has zero recall of anything you actually discussed in previous sessions - even with memory enabled. There's no way to inspect what it thinks it knows (aside from custom instruction that you have write yourself), no way to correct it meaningfully. Custom instructions either get completely ignored or become a firehose of contextually irrelevant nonsense. Projects / Features Projects were a highly anticipated feature - anticipated for over a year while competitors had well-functioning equivalents. What launched? NotebookLM integration for paid tiers. Except if you're in Europe on Pro. You simply get nothing, and no rollout schedule. The Notebook extension has supposedly been available even to some free-tier users globally ATP. Paying Pro subscribers in Europe? Nothing, I guess. Gemini in Chrome? Sorry, not in Europe. Meanwhile Anthropic - whose product in Europe also subject to EU regulation - somehow managed to ship a fully functional, tab-context-aware Chrome extension. So "regulatory constraints" isn't the real answer. Gemini desktop app for Windows? No, sorry, only on Mac. But there's a Google AI app that idles at 20% GPU usage and basically just runs searches. Agentic features? You get Antigravity with your weekly quota that a serious 2-hour session burns through completely. The actual question I'm not asking this rhetorically - I don't understand how a company with Google's resources, data infrastructure, and talent density manages to fumble every single execution decision at this scale. The capability is clearly there - 2.5 Pro and 3.0 Pro proved it. It is shocking to me how a company of this scale and talent can screw up so monumentally on every single aspect of building the product they care so much about. To people who have been paying long-term: what keeps you subscribed? Is there a use case where Gemini is best-in-class that I'm missing? Or is this just inertia? submitted by /u/Any-Explanation-9275 to r/GeminiAI [link] [comments]

We are facing possible bankruptcy after unauthorized Gemini API usage reached about $128k even after we paused the API, and Google denied our adjustment request. (Case #68928270)
03/19 Update A small update from our side: Google has now reopened / continued the review of our case, and they told us that the internal process may take up to 3 weeks. Thank you again to everyone who shared advice and experiences. --------------------- We are a small company in Japan. On March 12, we discovered that our Gemini API appears to have been used without authorization. By the time we noticed it, the charges were already around $44k, so we immediately paused the API and contacted Google. Even after that, the charges kept increasing, and the total eventually reached about $128k. From our side, this was unauthorized use of our API and completely inconsistent with our normal use. We asked Google for a review / adjustment, but it was denied based on policy. This is now creating a real risk of bankruptcy and serious debt issues for our company. I also saw another public case about abnormal Gemini billing, but I could not find the final outcome, so I wanted to ask: Has anyone else here gone through something similar? Did anyone actually get an adjustment, refund, or credits? If Google denied your first request, were you still able to escalate? https://preview.redd.it/jnryg7kkbdpg1.png?width=986&format=png&auto=webp&s=563d46047adf9f2760f937eeee89e8362f6380bc https://preview.redd.it/7bxbwzm3cdpg1.png?width=1402&format=png&auto=webp&s=05647a1b8960b90ee6f5a153c8370679f2a8f6af All amounts in the screenshots are in Japanese yen (JPY). We are based in Japan, so this post is written with the help of a translation tool. If the English sounds a little like AI-written text, that is the reason. Any real experiences or advice would be deeply appreciated.... --------------------- 03/17 Update Thank you very much to everyone for the advice. We have already started putting some additional measures in place, and we are continuing to gather evidence and communicate with Google. I would like to add a few points that were not fully explained in my original post. We were only using Google AI to build a few small internal tools to improve work efficiency. This was not a public-facing product. It was intended for internal company use only. Because of that, our app was protected with firewall-level IP access restrictions, and all of our GitHub repositories are private. For that reason, we still do not understand how the API key may have been leaked. The key had actually been used normally for about a month without any issue before this happened. Based on what we have seen, the abnormal activity appears to have started at around 4:00 AM JST on March 12. We only noticed the issue during a routine check before the end of the workday on March 12. By then, the bill had already risen to more than 7 million JPY. As soon as we discovered the issue, we took emergency action and contacted Google. However, what shocked us most is that the charges continued to increase even after we took those actions. The billing kept growing until late on March 13, and the final total reached approximately 20.36 million JPY. Again, thank you to everyone who has shared advice, similar experiences, or possible next steps. It really means a lot. submitted by /u/Mobile-Classroom-589 to r/googlecloud [link] [comments]

Google has been releasing a bunch of free AI tools outside of the main Gemini app. Most are buried in Google Labs. Here's the list, no fluff:
Learn Your Way (learnyourway.withgoogle.com) — Upload a PDF/textbook. It turns it into a personalized lesson — mind maps, audio, interactive quizzes. Study showed 11% better recall vs. reading alone. Lumiere (lumiere-video.github.io) — Research demo only, not released yet. But Google's AI video model generates entire videos in one pass (not frame-by-frame), so the motion is actually smooth. Whisk (labs.google/fx/tools/whisk) — Image generation using images instead of text prompts. Drop in subject + scene + style, get a blended image back. Free, 100+ countries. Pomelli (labs.google/fx/tools/pomelli) — Give it your site URL. It builds a brand profile and generates social campaigns that match your actual brand. Added a product photoshoot feature in Feb 2026. NotebookLM (notebooklm.google.com) — AI that only knows your sources. 100 notebooks, 50 sources each, free. The podcast generator is the sleeper feature. Gemini Gems (gemini.google.com) — Build custom AI assistants with their own instructions and persona. Way more useful than a regular chat. Nano Banana (inside Gemini app) — Free 4K image generation, now grounded in live web data. 13M new users in 4 days when it launched. Opal (labs.google/fx/tools/opal) — Describe a mini app in plain English, it builds and hosts it. Share via link. Available in 160+ countries now. Google AI Studio (aistudio.google.com) — Direct access to Gemini 2.5 Pro, Nano Banana, video models. Free tier includes up to 500 AI-generated images/day. All free, all working right now (except Lumiere which is research-only). Anyone here already using Opal or Pomelli? Curious how others are finding them. submitted by /u/Exact_Pen_8973 to r/PromptEngineering [link] [comments]

Why is Google getting ZERO backlash for Gemini powering the Pentagon's AI platform, while OpenAI got roasted for almost the same thing?
OpenAI's $200M+ DoD deal blew up Reddit: "Cancel ChatGPT!" "They sold out!" tons of outrage. But Google? Gemini is now LIVE on GenAI.mil (Pentagon's new AI tool for 3M+ users). It's FedRAMP High compliant, handles gov tasks, and contracts are in the hundreds of millions. Sundar Pichai basically said they're giving the military top-tier AI. Yet... almost no viral hate? Why the double standard? A few reasons Google might be sliding by: Google already faced Project Maven backlash in 2018. People are numb. Anthropic drama stole the spotlight, they're fighting the DoD hard (refusing unrestricted access, getting called a "supply chain risk"). OpenAI jumped in and caught heat. Google's deal rolled out quietly months ago. Internal pushback exists but stays low-key, 100+ DeepMind employees wrote to Jeff Dean demanding "red lines" (no mass US surveillance, no killer robots without humans). 200+ Google folks signed a public letter too. But no big protests or trending hashtags. The sketchiest part: data privacy hypocrisy ChatGPT: You can turn off "use data for training" and still keep your chat history. Easy opt-out. Gemini: Nope. To stop your chats from being used for training/improvement, turn off "Gemini Apps Activity" — but then chat history gets deleted for new convos. (Google keeps stuff 72 hours anyway for "safety," but long-term: no history = no training opt-out without pain.) So with Gemini powering military tools (even if "unclassified" for now), your everyday chats could feed the same AI pool the DoD uses, and you can't protect your data without losing usability. OpenAI lets you opt out cleanly. Google forces a trade-off. Google dropped their old "no weapons/surveillance" rules, just like OpenAI. But OpenAI gets flak while Google quietly goes deeper. Am I crazy? Is this just "Google's always been shady" fatigue? Or should Google catch more heat, especially on the data lock-in? IMPORTANT UPDATE: Even Anthropic is not clean, Anthropic has been a major military player. Last year, they signed a $200M DoD contract and launched "Claude Gov"—custom models built for national security. By partnering with Palantir, they became the first to put a frontier AI on classified networks. Reports even link Claude to the Maduro raid in January 2026. While Anthropic is now being blacklisted by the Pentagon for refusing to allow Claude to be used for autonomous weapons or mass surveillance, their hands were already "dirty." They were essential to military ops for months; they only hit a wall when the government demanded they cross their final "red lines." xAI is also working with the U.S. military under defense AI contracts: xAI Military Contracts Summary DoD frontier AI contract up to $200M (July 2025); February 2026 classified systems approval for Grok under "all lawful use"; deployed on GenAI.mil with GSA federal access. xAI's unrestricted stance contrasts with Anthropic's fallout, positioning it as a key DoD partner. I just don't understand why OpenAI is getting all the hate for what other AI labs are doing as well, with no one talking about it. The only AI lab that publicly said "stop" was Anthropic, but even they don't have a clean track record. submitted by /u/-Rikus- to r/ChatGPT [link] [comments]

Testing Gemini 3.0 Pro's Actual Context Window in the Web App: My Results Show ~32K (Not 1M)
TL;DR: While Gemini 3.0 Pro officially supports 1M tokens, my testing shows the Gemini web app can only access ~32K tokens of active context. This is roughly equivalent to ChatGPT Plus and significantly lower than Claude. --- This test measures the actual active context window accessible in the Gemini web app specifically. This is outside of a Gem. If you are testing Gem, factor in the tokens count from your Gem instructions + Gem files accordingly into the calculations. Testing Methodology Here's how to estimate your actual active context window: Step 1: Find the earliest recalled prompt In a longer chat, ask Gemini: Please show me verbatim the earliest prompt you can recall from the current active chat. If your chat is long enough, what Gemini returns will likely NOT be your actual first prompt (due to context window limitation). Step 2: Get the hidden overhead Ask Gemini: For transparency purposes, please give me the full content of: - User Summary block (learned patterns) - Personal Context block (Saved Info) Step 3: Calculate total context You'll need: Ásgeir Thor Johnson's leaked Gemini 3.0 Pro system prompt (~2,840 tokens) A tokenizer (OpenAI tokenizer; Claude Code) Optional: Chat export tool to count words/characters (Chrome plugin I use) Calculate: Active chat window tokens: From the earliest prompt Gemini recalled (Step 1) to the end of the conversation right before you asked Step 2's question Overhead tokens: System prompt (~2,840) + User Summary block contents + Personal Context block contents (from Step 2's response) Total usable context: Active chat + Overhead Important: Don't include the Step 2 conversation turn itself in your active chat calculation, since asking for the blocks adds new tokens to the chat. My Results Total: ~32K tokens Overhead: ~4.4K tokens Active chat window: ~27.6K tokens This is: Roughly equivalent to ChatGPT Plus (32K) Dramatically lower than Claude (~200K) 3% of the advertised 1M tokens for the web app --- Again, this test measures the tokens in the Gemini web app, on 3.0 Pro model. Not API. Not Google AI Studio. Why This Matters If you're: Using Gemini for long conversations Uploading large documents Building on previous context over multiple messages Comparing models for AI companionship or extended projects ...you're working with ~32K tokens, not 1M. That's a 97% reduction from what's advertised. Call for Testing Does your active context window match mine (~32K)? Are you seeing different numbers with Google AI Pro vs Ultra? Have you tested through the API vs web app? If you have a better methodology for calculating this, please share. The more data we have, the clearer the picture becomes. --- Edit to add: Another thing I found, is that when I reviewed the Personal Context / Saved Info block that Gemini gave me in the chat against what I can see on the user interface under Settings, several entries were not included in what Gemini actually could see in the back end. So let say I can see 20 entries of things I want Gemini to remember, what Gemini actually listed using the tool call was like 14. submitted by /u/StarlingAlder to r/GeminiAI [link] [comments]

Google announces Gemini 3 as battle with OpenAI intensifies
Google is debuting its latest artificial intelligence model, Gemini 3, as the search giant races to keep pace with ChatGPT creator OpenAI. The new AI model will allow users to get better answers to more complex questions, “so you get what you need with less prompting,” Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai said in one of several blog posts Google published Tuesday. Gemini 3 will be integrated into the Gemini app, Google’s AI search products AI Mode and AI Overviews, as well as its enterprise products. The rollout begins Tuesday for select subscribers and will go out more broadly in the coming weeks. The announcement comes about eight months after Google introduced Gemini 2.5 and 11 months after Gemini 2.0. OpenAI, which kicked off the generative AI boom in late 2022 with the public launch of ChatGPT, introduced GPT-5 in August. “It’s amazing to think that in just two years, Al has evolved from simply reading text and images to reading the room,” Pichai wrote in one of Tuesday’s posts. “Starting today, we’re shipping Gemini at the scale of Google.” The Gemini app now has 650 million monthly active users and AI Overviews has 2 billion monthly users, the company said. OpenAI said in August that ChatGPT hit 700 million weekly users. Pichai added that the newest model is “built to grasp depth and nuance,” and said Gemini 3 is also “much better at figuring out the context and intent behind your request, so you get what you need with less prompting.” Google’s other AI models may still be used for simpler tasks, the company said. Google accidentally created Gemini's most insane feature and nobody's talking about it
Okay, I'm genuinely confused why this isn't all over this sub. Everyone's obsessing over benchmarks and "is Gemini better than GPT" arguments, but you're all sleeping on the video analysis feature. This might be the most underrated AI capability I've ever seen, and Google seems almost like they're avoiding mentioning it. for example: Gemini can watch ANY YouTube video You can upload a video and ask questions about it Using the Live feature and letting Gemini guide you through websites This completely changed how I learn new stuff or get feedback. I'm constantly throwing videos into Gemini and asking for advice or the full script. I use this for a recipe app I'm building that gets the full recipe from the video, and because it's so OP and can literally get the recipe even without captions or audio, every time I show someone they're like "wait, WHAT?". The craziest part? Google barely promotes this. It's like they stumbled into their own killer feature and didn't realize it. While everyone's losing their minds over benchmarks, the video analysis is quietly doing things that feel like actual magic. So genuinely, what am I missing here? Why is this not the #1 thing people talk about with Gemini? Is Google intentionally downplaying this, or why aren't people building more products with this capability? submitted by /u/Orenhaliva to r/GeminiAI [link] [comments]

Google just dropped new Gemini 2.5 “Computer Use” model which is insane
Google just released the Gemini 2.5 Computer Use model and it’s not just another AI update. This model can literally use your computer now. It can click buttons, fill forms, scroll, drag elements, log in basically handle full workflows visually, just like we do. It’s built on Gemini 2.5 Pro, and available via the Gemini API . It’s moving stuff around on web apps, organizing sticky notes, even booking things on live sites. And the best part it’s faster and more accurate than other models on web and mobile control tests. Google is already using it internally for things like Firebase Testing, Project Mariner, and even their payment platform automation. Early testers said it’s up to 50% faster than the competition. They’ve also added strong safety checks every action gets reviewed before it runs, and it’ll ask for confirmation before doing high-risk stuff like purchases or logins. Honestly, this feels like the next big step for AI agents. Not just chatbots anymore actual digital coworkers that can open tabs, click, and get work done for real. whats your thoughts on this ? for more information check link in the comments submitted by /u/Shot-Hospital7649 to r/AI_Agents [link] [comments]

Not a Gemini fan... but "Share Screen" is legit. How did Google beat ChatGPT here?
So… I’m a heavy daily user of ChatGPT Plus, Claude Pro, SuperGrok, and Gemini Advanced (with the occasional Perplexity Pro). I’ve been running this stack for the past year—mostly for legal, compliance, and professional work, along with creative writing, where Grok’s storage and ChatGPT’s memory/project tools help sustain long-form narratives across sessions. So I’m not new to this, except no coding. And for most of that year, Gemini has been… underwhelming. Writing quality lagged far behind ChatGPT. It never earned a place in my serious workflows. But the recent release of Gemini’s new “Share Screen” / “Live” feature? Genuinely useful—and, surprisingly, ahead of the curve. Example: I was setting up my first-ever smartwatch (Garmin Instinct 2 that I snagged for about $100, crazy cheap) and got stuck trying to understand the Garmin Connect app UI, its strange metric labels, and how to tweak settings on the phone vs. the watch itself. Instead of hunting through help articles, I opened Gemini, shared my screen—and it walked me through what to do. Not generic tips, but real-time contextual help based on what I was actually seeing. This past weekend, I used it while editing a photo in Google Photos for a Mother’s Day Instagram post. Gemini immediately picked up on what I was trying to achieve in Google Photos (softening faces, brightening colors) and told me exactly which tools to use in the UI. It got it right. That’s rare. I still don’t use Gemini for deep reasoning or complex drafting—ChatGPT is my workhorse, and Claude is my go-to for final fact-checking and nuance. But for vision + screen-aware support, Gemini actually pulled ahead here. Would love to see this evolve. Curious—anyone else using this in the wild? Or am I the only one giving Gemini a second chance? submitted by /u/TheLawIsSacred to r/GeminiAI [link] [comments]
