I bought a Pixel 8 in January/2024 and all was good until March/2026 I started having an intermittent pink vertical line on the display. Of course, right after the 2 year warranty period. Nonetheless, I noticed that there was an extended warranty program for this exact problem and my device was elegible for it, so I sent it via mail. 2 days later I got feedback: they couldn't confirm my reported problem and instead they found an audio issue (which it never had or at least I never noticed it) and were requesting 100€+ to fix or I could choose for the device to be returned to me unrepaired. Since the vertical line was intermittent I thought it would be easy to just send them photo evidence that I had of my phone with the vertical line showing up. This is where it gets frustrating - there is absolutely NO option to get in touch with the repair team, no phone number, e-mail, NOTHING - so that I could explain and send the photos. There is only a bot with limited options which let me create a ticket (which again, can't attach any photo) and for which I got no feedback whatsoever. Since I got no feedback for the ticket and got limited days to give a feedback before they return the phone by themselves, I searched for a google support e-mail and sent an e-mail explaining the situation and the photo evidence of the issue. They answered back the next day to contact another support team and gave directions to where to click to reach this contact. These directions got me absolutely nowhere and I couldn't find any further contact. I was honestly baffled that they couldn't redirect my request internally. So Google just announced Gemini Intelligence — their big new AI feature push (smarter autofill, Gboard "Rambler," gen UI widgets, etc.) — and the supported device list is genuinely embarrassing if you bought a Pixel 9. The Pixel 9, 9 Pro, 9 Pro XL, and 9 Pro Fold — Google's own 2024 flagships — are stuck on Gemini Nano v2 and don't qualify. Meanwhile, here's a partial list of phones that do support Nano v3 and will get Gemini Intelligence: Oppo Find X8 / X8 Pro (2024, China) OnePlus 15R Honor Magic 8 Pro iQOO 15 Vivo X200 series (2024) Realme GT 7T Let that sink in. Google sold the Pixel 9 series in August 2024 with a loud, marketed promise of 7 years of OS and feature updates. Less than two years in, Chinese OEMs are shipping Google's own flagship AI features to phones from the same generation while Google's own hardware gets left behind. What's the point of "7 years of support" if "support" means security patches and nothing else? The whole pitch for buying a Pixel over a cheaper Chinese flagship was first-party AI integration and long-term feature parity. Both of those just evaporated. And before anyone says "it's a hardware limitation" — the official requirement is a flagship chip, 12GB RAM, and Nano v3. The Pixel 9 Pro XL has 16GB of RAM. Had the 8 from when it was released until 2yrs when the plan was done. It magically started glitching( random lines on the screen, battery not charging wttg adaptive on or off, The battery well being saying plugged in but not charging. Went through support and they sent me another pixel 8 around March of this year. Here I am now having out my phone in the charger multiple times today and not see it pass 50%(Currently sitting on 39% the last 20-30 minutes), Camera has been freezing and not opening on certain apps the last two months, and to top it off it randomly blacked out and wouldn't light up. It just kept making the slide recognition haptic for a good 20 mins. No water damage, drops, or debris in the charging port or charger. I have not had a phone come close to as bad as this one. I bought it brand new, my first phone had to be replaced immediately because the phone only showed 100% battery until it died. Google support wanted me to do multiple iterations of factory resets until they sent me a new phone. Then in December 2024, with no water damage, my screen turned green and glitchy. They sent me a new phone. Now my phone randomly overheats when its not in a hot setting. It completely stopped working while I was driving and needed directions. They won't replace it even though its less than 1.5 years old. Rather than let reports stay scattered across the subreddit, I'm creating this megathread so we can consolidate information, help each other troubleshoot, and build a documented record of how many users are affected. The goal is simple: make it impossible for Google to ignore this. The Problem After the March update, Wi-Fi began randomly failing — wifi goes grey and the device can no longer list or connect to any access point. Initially, a hard restart restored connectivity for a few minutes, but that workaround stopped working over time. Bluetooth and mobile data are also intermittently affected. Diagnosis After exhausting every software option — restarts, factory reset, and beta releases — the problem persisted across all of them. The system logs tell the real story: the Wi-Fi HAL driver cannot see the network interface that the kernel should be presenting. This is a driver/firmware-level failure, not a user error. One notable pattern: when the phone is cold (off for a while), Wi-Fi and Bluetooth work normally after boot. Once the device warms up to normal operating temperature — not hot, just warm — connectivity is lost. At the moment it serves me as a backup phone to my Pixel 10 Pro. Personally for my use case scenario which is everything but not gaming - I do not see the difference between it and 10 Pro - even Gemini works the same because on-board AI is the same as in Pixel 10 which has the same 12GB RAM. Funny enough the latest and the greatest so-called "flagship" Galaxy S26 Ultra has the same 12GB RAM (and yes, there is also 16GB model - but you HAVE TO spend crazy £1700 to have it). Battery holds in 8 Pro longer because it has bigger battery than my smaller 10 Pro. And now the best part - you can buy it for under £200 in UK in good used condition which is the best choice for tiny budget smartphone purchase in 2026 because if you want to buy same year of release iPhone which is 15 Pro Max in used condition - you need to spend DOUBLE (£400). Same thing with going for used Galaxy S24 Ultra minimum £400. Additionally Pixel 8 series will be supported till 2030 and even longer. Genuine Google battery replacement with ALL tools to replace it from iFixit cost £55. Pixel 8 also has Desktop Mode so it works great on TV. It has all anti-scam Phone app protection. So is iPhone 15 Pro Max (which has just 8GB RAM) or Galaxy S24 Ultra worth £200 more than Pixel 8 Pro? UPDATE: Long story short, I bought the device from Amazon USA, but since now I live in a different country, I'm not covered for any type of support anymore. So yeah, that's that. So I need to get a new phone. And for the comments saying to just repair it, nope, not an option. It would need to replace the MB, which it costs more than buying another phone. Never even looked at another brand. Then yesterday, out of nowhere, my Pixel 8 Pro decided it was done. Just... gone. Boot failure. "nos production error (-7)". Stuck in Fastboot purgatory with no way out. No warning. No goodbye. Just betrayal. Luckly, I back up my photos with Google Photos. The phone is barely two years old. TWO. YEARS. You promised me 7 years of updates — I thought we had a future together! I had plans! After some Googling (ironic, I know), I found I'm not alone. Is anyone else on the Pixel 10 series noticing that the weather is just... wrong? Not just "slightly off," but consistently hallucinating? I’m currently in Cranbrook, BC. Right now, my Pixel 10 is insistently telling me it’s -15°C. Meanwhile, the Environment Canada station down the street (and every other reliable source) has us at -7°C. That’s an 8-degree discrepancy. On what planet is an 8-degree swing considered a "smart" forecast? Google broke a working system. I’ve been a Pixel loyalist for years. My Pixel 2XL, 5, and 7 were all rock solid. They pulled data from actual weather stations (Weather.com/IBM) and it matched reality. Now, with the Pixel 10, Google has shifted to their own in-house AI model (WeatherNext / GraphCast). Instead of just reporting what a thermometer says, the phone is now "simulating" the weather using AI to fill in the gaps. It’s effectively "smoothing" the data so much that it ignores local microclimates. It feels like the AI sees cold air in a nearby valley and just assumes my whole city is a freezer, rather than actually checking the physical sensor data at the airport. The "AI" isn't helpful, it's just guessing. We’re losing the accuracy of real meteorological data for the sake of "AI Weather Reports" that tell me it's a "brisk morning" while I'm standing in a snowstorm the app doesn't even see. Google has replaced a perfectly functioning utility with a generative guess-machine. If you’re in a region with complex terrain (mountains, coastlines, etc.), the Pixel 10 seems to struggle because the AI prioritizes its own model over the actual station down the street. I just got my first ever Google Pixel and foldable phone alongside my new Raybans two days ago. So far I love the split screen, the Pixel IOS and the comfort feels very similar to both Iphone IOS and Oppo Color IOS. The photography in the main camera is great no complaint! As for the selfie cameras it is not as good as the Iphone 17 Pro which is my daily driver when it comes to point and shoot… BUT!!! I noticed that this phone can edit photos really well to make it good as I want even my old photos from four years ago! The AI system is what I’m trying to figure out which is why I wanted this phone. Overall, I give this phone a 9/10. The few things that set this back are: 1) The cameras. I like taking selfies and video calling people, and using social media. The camera needs to have the same specs similar to it’s brother Google Pixel 10 Pro XL. Similar to how the Samsung Galaxy 7 Fold was treated in the Galaxy lineup. Also, like the Samsung and Apple their cameras really need to compete compared to the chinese phones such as Vivo, Huawei, Xiaomi, and one of my personal favorites the Oppo. 2) Video stabilization needs a lot of work. I still believe that the iphone makes the best videotography out of all the smartphone followed by the Samsung Galaxy 3) It heats up a bit whenever I use Waze as my GPS or when it tries to do software updates. 4) The elephant in the room, the durability test. Although JerryRugsEverything channel does a lot of extreme testing to smartphones which majority of people won’t do. This is flat out disappointing considering one of my biggest reason I bought this phone is durability. I’m not scared of this phone to set up in flames because I’ve been taking care of my phones really well since my HTC Dream/HTC G1 days back when I was in High School. On a brighter note! 1) This phone will be my work/travel phone to compliment my Iphone 17 pro my daily driver. 2) The multi-tasking is very good! The screen is much brighter than most of the foldable phones out there. It’s my first foldable phone. 3) I love the feel and color of the phone. 4) The Pixel IOS system feels very similar to both my Iphone 17 Pro and one of my previous phones the Oppo Reno 2. 5) The AI stuff, I’m trying to figure out via youtube and Pixel tips. 6) Editing photos and videos. So many options 7) A way better upgrade from my OnePlus 10 Pro 5G where the selfie cameras and the video stability are just terrible. I have a feeling I will enjoy this phone similar to my experience with my Oppo Reno 2. 8) I like how heavy it is. I never really cared about how paper thin a phone can be. I care more about other stuff like the battery, durability, and not overheating. Hi all, I wanted to share what I learned from coming from Google Pixel 10 Pro > Google Pixel 4 XL > iPhone 17 Pro. So I pre-ordered the 10 Pro and used it for almost a month until I accidentally broke it, it fell off from my pocket. After this I bought a case, used it with a case for a couple of days and sold it. After selling it, I was rocking my old 4 XL for a few days until I decided to buy iPhone 17 Pro. That’s the short story of how I got to this point. Okay, let’s talk about the differences between the phones. Right after switching to iPhone I immediately noticed how slow it is compared to 10 Pro. I know the 17 Pro has a super-duper processor and optimization, but guys, in most apps the scrolling feels like it’s 60hz and 4 XL feels faster compared to it. The animations are so slow, you feel sleepy while using it. In usual day-to-day tasks 10 Pro feels a lot faster and snappier. I don’t play games, so I can’t say anything about this aspect of usage. The cameras. If you felt like the camera feels choppy on 10 Pro in preview mode, it’s the same thing for 17 Pro. The only flawless thing here is switching between lenses. Photo quality is better on 10 Pro; video is, of course, better on iPhone. I installed all the apps I was using on Pixel, and all of them feel faster on Pixel. The only difference here for me is that 1Password’s autocomplete is almost flawless on iPhone compared to Pixel when it’s hit or miss. iPhone lacks a universal back gesture, which pisses me off because I have to guess every time whether I should press a button in the top left corner or whether I need to swipe to the right. I really miss the haptic feedback on Pixels, iPhone feels too plain and lifeless. At least they allow you to enable haptics for the keyboard. Face unlock is OK, nothing to talk about here, except that I prefer the fingerprint sensor more. Also, iPhone still wobbles when laying on a table. The dynamic island is not necessary at all, just a gimmick, in my opinion. Action button for camera wasn’t needed as well – I believe I could live without it at all. Pixel’s Android 16’s control panel is way superior to what I have on iPhone, and, in general, Android 16 feels much better than iOS 26. What I wanted to say with all of this. If you bought 10 Pro and are hesitating about whether you should have bought iPhone 17 – don’t. Pixel 10 Pro is an exceptional phone. If I hadn’t broken my 10 Pro I would stick with it for sure; I have no idea why I bought this iPhone, maybe out of curiosity. You don’t lose anything having a Pixel – sleep tight. After my series of trying to experience different OS and features from different phones, I've never been disappointed not until I had my iPhone 16 Pro. Unahan ko na kayo, this post isn't intended to discourage those people na gustong mga iPhone/iOS, but rather my direct experience using an iPhone device. Kung anong kina-premium ng camera especially videos, display, security (FaceID), charging time yun namang KINABULOK ng battery niya. Contrary to what most people say here na baka nag-aadjust palang since new user ako and give it some time, sorry but it never became better. Grabe ang incosistency sa pagbabawas ng battery, I just used it for fancam sa concert and I'm not even running multiple apps at the same time, not even an hour, yet from 90% biglang bulusok sa 30% with 98% battery health and 200+ cycle counts. Isa pa sa sinukuan ko is yung keyboard optimization nakakaloka, compared sa Android, may auto suggestion and filling forms like name, email and etc, dito kahit simpleng "I'll" di niya ma-auto suggest kaya pipindutin ko pa yung (') Yung back gestures sige tolerable naman kahit papaano pero jusko pag naka landscape mode ka at need to check notif or go to control center, you have to make sure na ang pagswipe mo is too right or too left to make it right. Sa messenger calls, walang option to not answer the calls, yung notifications sabog sabog kahit inadjust ko na sa settings, ang volume, ringer at notification alerts nakakalito dahil hindi separate. May times na ang hina ng alerts pero di ko ma-adjust unlike sa Android na iba ang volume settings ng media, calls, notifs and so on. That's why bumalik ako sa Pixel 9 Pro and safe to say, this is gonna be my retirement phone. If ever you really want to try iPhones, siguro bumili nalang kayo ng brand new, maybe isang factor din yun to consider para hindi magka-issue especially sa battery kasi sino namang may gusto na palagi kang may bitbit na powerbank at charger diba? Never ko to na experience using Samsung or Pixels, nakakauwi ako with at least 20% battery unlike sa iPhone na 3 percent? Hey everyone, This is more of an eulogy than an rant post. I've been a die-hard Pixel fan since the very beginning. I've owned over the years: Pixel 1 Blue (the Pioneer, still holding on to it for the nostalgia and maybe unlimited backup?) Pixel 2 Just Black (Wow Camera but that battery sucked... and i ran it over with my car :s oops) Pixel 2 XL Panda (Wow Camera + Panda! my 2nd fav pixel ever) Pixel 3a Just Black (2 RMAs, would never consider another a series again lol) Pixel 4 Clearly White (face unlock on android!, orange button on white was a highlight) Pixel 5 Sage Green (Best imo, loved that Sage Green bio-resin coating) Pixel 6 Sorta Seafoam (2 RMAs as well lol, qc on this gen was terrible as well) Pixel 8 Pro Bay Blue (Very solid, loved the Bay Blue colour, regret selling it for the fold) Pixel 9 Fold Pro Obsidian (was good/enjoying it until it died... what a waste of money) I also have a Black #Team Pixel shirt that I sometimes wear... Over the years, I've defended the Pixel through every bug, every hardware quirk, and every questionable design choice. I loved the software experience through the years and that camera was chef's kiss But... I'm officially done. My Pixel 9 Fold Pro, babied since day one (no scratches or anything), just straight up died. After the recent Android 16 update, the dreaded Battery'?' icon appeared. Didn't think too much of it thinking it was just an Android 16 bug... wish I looked it up, apparently its a known sign that the phone was dying. Whats really triggered me now was the warranty expiring just 25 days ago and Google telling me to suck it up, to get it repaired will be $800+ To have the most expensive, premium phone Google has ever made fail so soon after the warranty period ends feels like a calculated insult. My journey with Pixel is over. Feels surreal typing this from my work iPhone... The fact that I can actually get call screening on the latest iOS (Google never activated the feature in my country citing regulation bs) further validates a move. I'll save that repair money for a new non-Pixel phone. Farewell, Team Pixel, was a good run. TL;DR: I've been a loyal Pixel user since the Pixel 1. Pixel 9 Pro Fold just died 25 days post warranty expiry. Hey yall so I had this Google pixel 8 for about 2 years and so far the hardware and software has been aging terribly. Idk what y’all’s experience with this phone but mine current unit is having display issues like for example, when I press on the screen (even a light tap) the screen just flickers and it’s been driving me crazy and also screen creaking like a floor board. Also another thing the software has been very buggy after android 14 which has been pretty frustrating. Honestly I’ve never had a phone age badly after two years of owning it the long term which is ashame because Google has a very good feel when it comes to software, idk if they’ve improved in the new pixel 10 but for now I’ll just move back to iOS What’s y’all’s experience of owning this phone in the long term? Edit: thanks y’all support and sharing y’all’s experience. I read a mixed bag of perspectives on their p8, some say it aged like wine while others say it aged like milk. I’ve also learned that 2023 models or launch models had the same display issues that I am having which I’ve now just learned that two years later 🤦‍♂️. Rn I am typing this on my iPhone 14 and prep my p8 for trade in for that cred cuz it’s been almost two years.
