Super cute do Carol, I second the notion of blow drying your hair upside down for a bit and then using a big round brush for the bangs with blow dryer first on warm and then change to cool to set the bangs.

Hair dryers:what makes one better than another?
Hi guys, I'm in trouble. My sectioning is atrocious and slow with the brush so it's like the dryer is on my hair forever. And as I'm standing there with my wrist starting to ache from holding my ‘$45 drugstore special’ the same one I see recommended in every "I'm not spending $500" thread. I can't help but think about this, say you're in a morning rush, is the weight difference between an entry-level ceramic dryer and something like a $300 pro tool noticeable for someone who isn't a stylist? I'm trying to get my arms rested if that's what you are asking. That impatience leads me straight into the second rant. Because I'm so uncoordinated, I end up blasting the same place every damn time because I ‘lose’ my sectioning clip. And so I'm standing there thinking, is a weaker dryer safe in my hands or would I be better off with a powerful dryer that blows the water off in 4 minutes even if my clumsy self scorches the same section twice? I'm thinking alibaba vs speciality sites, comparing different hair dryers. Additionally, I've read that modern dryers regulate temperature so you don't fry yourself, only to hear that technique matters more than the tool. So when your technique is ‘confused raccoon, it's what it's’ for my hair type(fine limp). . . Should I just ignore that label entirely and focus solely on finding a dryer with good heat settings and a reasonable weight? I would really appreciate your advice. Thanks! submitted by /u/Fancy_Confusion252 to r/HairPie [link] [comments]

‼️$10 Dryer Brush 🚨
$10 dryer brush purchased 4/1/26! It was the last one in stock at my local Dollar Tree— I HAD to buy 😩 The employee told me they’re gonna start releasing more within the next few weeks for the Mother’s Day season. The dryer brush works great 👏 My sister has a lot of hair. She was blessed with thick, long hair 🥹 Her hair was about 85% air-dried. We applied a heat protectant and used the “MIDDLE” setting to style her whole head. It took me about 35 minutes to get to the final result. Personally, I feel hair looked very polished and natural. I would like to note that I am in no way a professional and I’m still trying to figure out how to achieve a good blowout with this dryer brush. Here are *my* pros and cons: Pros: -Price -Usability/Functionality -3 Heat Settings -6ft Cord -Tangle Free Bristles -12 Month Warranty Cons: -Availability -Cord Gets Easily Tangled The pros definitely outweigh the cons. If you see the brush, get it! I hope it impresses you as much it did me. For the price you can’t beat it! submitted by /u/Winter-Bother-3956 to r/dollartreebeauty [link] [comments]

tiktok taught me stuff abt the best hair dryer features.. and nobody puts this on the box
Wish i were an expert on hair dryers because there's no way i didnt know any of this?! Like I just went to the store, picked out what fit my budget and paid for it. 3 months later when the functionality reduced by a fat chunk THATS when I realised there's soo much more to an appliance than what's trending and fits my budget. This post is not meant to vouch for one specific brand of a model, its only meant to highlight some specs i feel like alot of us don't know about bcs they're just not mentioned on the box. Hoping this info helps everyone understand features that the best hair dryers in the market have. Right off the bat, did anyone else know that hair porosity is imp for hair dressing as well? Porosity determines EVERYTHING! Yes tiktok did try to teach us how to judge hair porosity but i never thought it would apply to hair dryers as well? i knew that it makes all the difference for hair care and hair wash routines but its lowkey crazy to know that there are specific ways to dry specific hair porosities. Im sure everyone here knows that Hair porosity is how readily your hair absorbs and releases moisture but DOES EVERYBODY understand the science behind that?? Well now I do and I wanna explain it hehe. So basically when hair has low porosity it has tightly packed cuticles that resists moisture absorption. It takes longer to get wet and longer to dry and it doesn't need aggressive heat to close the cuticles bcs the cuticle was barely open to begin with!! Dyson Supersonic and T3 Featherweight StyleMax are what tiktok hairdressers recc the most for this High porosity means hair will absorb moisture fast but also LOSE IT fast and needs more controlled drying to avoid frizz caused by the cuticle lifting unevenly as it dries. SRILabs DryQ is the internet’s favvv for high porosity. What this basically means is that high porosity hair benefits significantly from ionic technology and the cool shot step. But low porosity benefits more from consistent airflow and moderate heat than from ion output. Using a heavily ionic dryer on low porosity fine hair is one of the more common reasons people with that hair type find ‘good’ dryers make their hair worse than better. You should check your hair posterity JIC Its like a five second test. You take one of your hair and put it in a glass of water. Wet hair sinks in the water if its has high porosity bcs it has absorbed more water. Low porosity hair will come up to the surface and float. Everything else sort of depend son this ALOT, but no pressure lmao. The concentrator nozzle is pure science So I knew that that nozzle at the end is for frizz as im sure everyone else did too but i needed to understand the science behind it bcs the whole hair dressing duration is wayy longer with the nozzle attached and so much easier and quicker without it right? So turns outt the science is actually pretty measurable. Its pure physics and aerodynamics. The nozzle is designed in a way that it directs the airflow DOWN the hair length instead of blowing it in every direction. The downward hot air smoothes the cuticles and tames them to stay there. Fly aways come primarily from the scattered airflow that we so carelessly use. This is clearly best for straighter or wavy hair and a good blowout truly depends on this. Dyson Supersonic Flyaway Attachment is prime example of how well these work. And also the SnozzlePro Universal Concentrator obv. The diffuser is the opposite of that bcs it deliberately scatters the air to provide a more disrupted curl pattern and add a sort of airy volume to the hair. This works best for curly hair for obvious reasons. Curlsmith blow dryer with XL diffuser has the oversized diffuser which enhances curl pattern while minimising heat exposure and the extra-large bowl means faster drying time without the airflow disrupting curl formation. This one freaked me out: Temperature Memory in the Hair Shaft You know this tiktok trend that's all “hair hold memories”? Yeah well that applies to the heat we enforce on it too. The human body keeps a track of everything lol. It's genuinely a bit creepy. Hair holds heat longer than most of us account for. Moving from one section to the next immediately after finishing the previous one means the dryer is landing on hair that's already elevated in temperature in relation to its proximity. The actual surface temperature of hair mid blowout esp in sections close together is higher than the dryer setting alone would suggest because of accumulated ambient heat. This is part of why the same heat setting feels more intense toward the end of a drying session than at the start when the baseline temperature of everything in the vicinity has crept up. Giving sections 30 secs of cool air between passes is not overthinking it. It's just thermodynamics. Hair keeps a score of the damage! Heat damage stacks and the geometry of how you dry it really matterssss. The damage compounds every time we pass over the same section. The area that ends up most damaged follows a completely predictable pattern where the ends get hurt the most bcs thats where the heat ends and has the most exposure. Roots get a pass bcs they air dry before the dryer can even start to work so the exposure to heat is substantially lower. The tips are also where the water accumulates as it drips down and all. The way to bypass this is to apply a dryer at the tips first where its most fragile and do roots last on higher heat where new growth is stronger. It's just applied physics. Mechanical Damage is real! Hair is weakest when Wet and with applied tension. Hair is very obviously most vulnerable when its wet and when you pull it taut under heat either by hand or by brush. This is also why we tend to notice the most hairfall in the shower. The tension applied while drying compounds and makes the hair even more weak. The pulling stretches the shaft while the cuticle is open from heat exposure. The cuticle closes around the stretched shape which is partly how blowouts work actually but consistent aggressive tension on already heat-exposed hair is a mechanical damage source that sits completely separately from the heat damage conversation. Both are happening at the same time and they get talked about as if they're the same thing. Im sure now that i know what the real problem with the mislabeling on the box is im sure we can all collectively figure out the solution for these. Do any professionals on here have any solid food proof advice that can help with any of these problems and the science behind their working? submitted by /u/robertsmith34 to r/finehair [link] [comments]

What's the best hair dryer that won’t actually kill my hair?
after seeing that one viral clip of a cheap blow dryer basically catching fire mid-blowout, I decided it was finally time to stop using the $20 travel dryer i’ve had since college. Been looking for something that has actual heat control because my split ends are already fighting for their life. I spent the morning looking at airflow specs and ionic tech (the stuff that actually stops the frizz) to see if you really have to drop $400 on a dyson or if there's a middle ground. here’s the breakdown of the three that kept popping up in the worth the hype categories: Feature Dyson Supersonic Shark HyperAIR Ella Bella Professional Tech Type Digital Motor V9 HyperAIR IQ Pro Ionic (Negative Ions) Weight ~660g ~680g Ultra-Lightweight Heat Control 40x/sec sensor Internal thermal sensor Intelligent Heat Control Noise Level Quiet-ish high pitch Standard loud Low Noise Tech Price Point Luxury / Splurge Mid-tier Best Overall Value the technical stuff i actually care about: Ionic Tech isn't just a buzzword. Basically, it releases negative ions to break down water molecules faster so you aren't just blasting your hair with raw heat until it's dry. It seals the cuticle so you don't look like you stuck your finger in a light socket. The Weight Factor. If you have thick hair, you know the arm fatigue is real. Most pro dryers are heavy because of the AC motors, but the newer ones (like the Ella Bella) are using scaled-down tech that keeps the power without making you feel like you’re doing a gym workout. my take: Dyson Supersonic is the move if you have the budget and want the status symbol + the quietest motor. It's great, but you’re definitely paying a brand tax. Shark HyperAIR is a solid alternative if you want a bunch of different attachments (like the brush heads), though it can run a bit hotter than the others if you aren't careful with the manual settings. Ella Bella Professional is honestly the secret menu pick here. It’s noticeably quieter than most pro dryers i've tried, and since it comes with the diffuser and magnetic nozzles, it works for everything from pin-straight to curly hair. probably going to go with something that won't make my arm go numb after 5 minutes lmao. Has anyone tried ella bella on super thick hair? Lmk if it made a difference for you ppl. Also, more suggestions are welcome. submitted by /u/OutcomeSeashore to u/OutcomeSeashore [link] [comments]

Hair Hack: Build your volume with heat, set it with cold.
Most people think about what products they're using for volume, but temperature is one of the most underrated tools in the whole routine. When you're blow drying, the hair is malleable while it's hot and sets into shape as it cools. That's why dropping your hair out of the brush while it's still warm is one of the easiest ways to lose the volume you just built. Keeping it held in place, whether that's in a brush, clipped at the root, or just held up with your hand, until it cools completely gives the shape somewhere to set before gravity takes over. The cold shot button on your dryer is doing the same job. A lot of people skip it but blasting the root with cold air at the end of drying is essentially locking the lift in place in a way that warm air just can't. Even thirty seconds on each section makes a noticeable difference in how long the volume actually lasts through the day. Have you ever paid attention to the temperature side of your blow dry routine, or is this one you'll be trying? submitted by /u/matrixhaircare to r/MatrixHair [link] [comments]

Tourmaline: A gemstone coating that boosts ion production. Best for extremely thick hair that needs maximum drying speed and shine. Skip These If... Skip Conair Cord-Keeper ($17) if you have waist-length thick hair; it is a 1875W unit but lacks the air-pressure needed for high-speed drying. Have any of you seen hair dryer brush tools recently?
Hello, Beautiful Viners. I've been in Vine Voice for a year and a half now, got promoted to Gold as soon as I was eligible, and I've maintained an "excellent" review rating, along with a consistently high number of "helpful" clicks. Overall it's been a great experience and I'm so fortunate and grateful. I can no longer work due to chronic health issues, but as someone who's always had a strong work ethic, I take my role in Vine seriously, and I definitely go above and beyond with my reviews. We all have our theories, and continue to speculate about how to work the algorithms for our RFY lists. I truly believe a lot of it has to do with the overall quality of our reviews, as I've gotten so many high ticket items, even recently during these past few months of car parts and remote controls. Majority of what I have gotten during my time in Vine are beauty items, a lot of high end and name brand skincare sets, too. My first year I acquired a lot of furniture and other houseware items, but beauty has always been the majority of my items reviewed. But the one item I've not gotten yet, and my reason for posting is I've been on a year long intensive hair therapy treatment plan. Due to my health issues I lost a lot of my hair, and what I did have left was in terrible shape. But I'm finally seeing results and my hair is looking better. It's actually growing now, and my hair therapist has recommended I upgrade to a better hair dryer blow dry brush combo. Since I don't work, I'm on a fixed income, and I am trying to algorithm my way to getting a brand name hair dryer brush combo, or at least a better quality hair dryer. My question is this - do these ever show up anymore? Are they few and far between? I'm trying to gage my chances of getting one in my RFY rather than spending an upwards of $300+ that isn't in the budget. I feel like I've been able to "work the algorithms" in my favor for literally everything else on my wish list these past 18 months. But I have never seen evidence of anyone ever getting a high quality or brand name hair dryer tool that I'm currently looking for. Do these actually exist in Vine? Because if there's absolutely no chance ever then I've got to figure out a plan. But if they do exist in the wild, I'm willing to be patient and wait for my chance because I do believe it might just be a matter of time. Sorry if my post is weird. I know it's a little out there. But if you all saw my hair one year ago and then saw it today I'm sure you'd understand why I'm so desperate to find the high quality items I need yet can't afford. submitted by /u/AnAccidentalPoet to r/BeautyViners [link] [comments]

Dealing with stringy hair... I'm not really sure what to do? Advice on washing/refresh routine would be incredibly helpful!
I did my hair last night haha, and then I slept on a cotton pillow cuz for some reason my bonnet always makes my hair more flat. Routine: Clarified w Herbal Essences Tea Tree Oil Clarifying Shampoo Shampooed w Not Your Mothers Tahitian Gardenia & Mango Butter Shampoo Conditioned w Not Your Mothers Tahitian Gardenia & Mango Butter Conditioner Did squish to condish After that, I moisturized my hair W Mielle Organics's Rosemary Mint Strengthening Leave-In Conditioner Then I air dried a bit before adding The Doux Bee Girl Crazy Sexy Curl Setting Foam to my roots. I scruched it in. Then, I squished some The Doux Big Poppa Defining Gel in sections before just air drying it normally. I slept with a gel cast and then broke it with some pumps of Vitamin E oil in the morning. I had to finger curl some strands. I tend to wash my hair every 4-5 days. My hair is on the dryer side, however today was the first time I got Uhhh, I have tried pixie diffusing, and it has never worked for me. I have also tried hover diffusing, but it made my hair also kinda stringy before. I'm growing my hair out so it looks a bit weird and uneven. I have used heat a couple of times on my hair as an FYI. I had traveled to South Asia and had my hair blow dried and styled with little heat protectant only TWICE (i was so upset that I couldn't enjoy the wedding events I had gone to with my hair, even though it was looking nice). This was 3.5-4 months ago. I blow dried my hair two weeks ago for the first time, but went with two heat protectants but drenched my hair. I used TRESemme's Thermal Keratin Smooth weightless Fortifying Heat Protection Spray and also the Colorwow Dream Coat that everybody uses lol for it. I was pretty good about sectioning I feel, so I didn't think it would impact my curl pattern. I'm normally a 2C/3A/loose 3B, however when I had longer hair, it was more of a tight curl, like the S's would be a bit shorter than the ones in the photos I've given. As you know probably, even with no product curly hair tends to have some definition but I have a bad habit of brushing it after when I need to tie my hair into sleek braids or buns so it's not in my face. Oh well, I mean, this is probably why I have a bit more hair coming out during showers but that's not a discussion for here. Yes, I'm aware I have recolored my skin to look like shrek. I did this cuz I had way too many photos and was choosing the ones for Reddit. Also I tried converting HEIC photos to pNG and then it looked like thsi abomination. I'm very sorry but I may reupload pics if requested in the comment section. submitted by /u/Basic-Sympathy to r/curlyhair [link] [comments]

Laundry 101 With u/KismaiAesthetics
[r/laundry](r/laundry) is filled with tales of woe - smelly armpits, mystery stains, socks the color of cream of mushroom soup - complete with mysterious embedded dark chunks. I personally love solving these problems (and the reactions when people post the process and results of disaster recovery are extremely popular there). But what of people who just have normal laundry and want a little tune-up? Or have never done their own laundry before? How about some love and guidance for the non-smelly, non-stained, non-crusty? Here's something for them. How I do normal laundry day-to-day. Getting Personal: What people are often surprised to learn is that I really don’t enjoy doing laundry. I don’t think it’s an act of service - I think it’s survival, and I further think expending the minimal amount of time and effort that respects my textiles (and the human and resource inputs that went in to making them) is the best use of my time. It just needs to be done right the first time, every time, so I can watch cat videos on the Internet. There’s no one right way to do laundry, just like there’s no one right way to make a grilled cheese sandwich. Much like slightly-stale sourdough with a skim of dijon mustard inside and a blend of sharp cheddar and either fontina or Monterey Jack, fried in Whirl is my favorite way to do the latter, this is my laundry default method, developed over the years of contending with my messes. 95%+ of the loads I do fall in this rubric. Also note that I’m in North America with water softer than about 75% of households. There are endless corner cases, including silk, wool, down, GoreTex and other waterproof technical fabrics, semi-synthetics like rayon, viscose, “bamboo”, modal, Lyocell and Tencel, silver-infused, FR and anti-static, pillows and stuffed toys, shoes and rugs. I’ll get to those later. This is for: Towels Sheets / Duvet Covers / Pillowcases Clothing (other than Dry Clean Only pieces) Which are at least 95% the following fibers: Cotton Linen Hemp Ramie Polyester / Dacron Nylon / Polyamide Acrylic Lycra / Spandex / Elastane Laundry Apartheid: Separating The Whites And The Colors Please note: I have a problem. I don’t think you absolutely need to do this much to have very good results. You could easily combine the dark and lights in a color family, for example, especially if you use a detergent with anti-redeposition or use color catchers. It’s also likely you could combine neutrals and embellished whites successfully. I have a lot of laundry categories. I also don’t look good in yellow or orange, so I don’t own it. If you do, good for you, and you could aim at the red loads and move the purples to the dark blues and greens. I wear a lot of plum and purple. I have a bunch of IKEA Frakta/Storstomma 80 liter bags hanging up, and stuff gets sorted into them daily. When they’re mostly full, I run the load. Black, charcoal, navy and dark brown Dark blues and greens Dark reds and purples Light blues and greens Light reds and purples Neutrals like khaki, tan, ecru, light grey and taupe Whites with stripes / embellishment Absolute plain white Socks & Underwear (cotton blends, mostly white) Sheets (by color) People Towels (by color) Kitchen & Pet Towels (all white, presoaked with chlorine bleach for sanitizing in my world) The towels and sheets get isolated in this scheme because for me, I need to dry the sheets on Delicate and the towels on High. Your sheets may be more durable or you may be willing to separate them between the wash and dry. They’re both full loads for me, without the need to combine to make a good load. Sorting like this gives me flexibility in the choice of chemistry, and doesn’t require me to take any special precautions to prevent color transfer in anything but the first wash of an item. I also care a lot less about lint, because the lint is largely invisible when it’s between items of like color and intensity. Pretreat: Don’t Make Your Detergent Do Everything I am a pretreater. One of the first laundry tasks I was ever trusted with by my legendarily persnickety mother was identifying stains for pretreating, and eventually I was trusted with her can of old-skool Spray ’n’ Wash with solvents. Detergents and equipment have improved a lot in the years since mumblemumble, but I still pretreat, in exchange for not having to check every garment for lingering stains between wash and dry. The Usual: Stains from Food, Plants and Animals Including Myself This is the most common cause of stains on my laundry. It’s like I never learned to use cutlery as a toddler. It’s also the most common cause of spots on most textiles for most people. My not-so-secret weapon against these stains? Enzyme pretreater. They’re safe on the listed fabrics regardless of color, they’re not smelly or environmentally sketchy, they work extremely well and there are many to choose from. There’s a list on the spreadsheet linked at The Lipase List on the Pretreater tab. Pick whichever one sounds good - they all work about the same because their formulae are about the same. I've got a stockpile of old-formula Tide Rescue that I'm emotionally attached to in a less-than-healthy way, but I've also been happy with Whole Foods and Open Nature. I'll pick up a bottle of the President's Choice next time I'm in Canada. Spritz or squirt the stains at least a half-hour before laundering, up to about a week. These removers are working so long as they’re damp, and once they’ve worked, the stain washes out with detergent - so don’t be discouraged if the stain still appears to be there before washing. The Not Uncommon: Mineral Oils I work on cars and do motorsports. I get automotive grease on me. Enzyme pretreaters are nothing special on this kind of oily soil. What works is nonionic surfactant, the active ingredient in many heavy-duty liquid detergents. Anything can work here. I usually have some Tide or Persil around for this purpose. If you get these spots, hit them with some liquid detergent at least fifteen minutes before washing. Penetration is improved if you dilute 1:1 with tap water. Tamping the mixture in with a brush or spoon can help improve first-wash removal. This is also a solid pretreater for waterproof/water resistant makeup stains. The Woes Of Living With Someone Who Takes Notes In Ink Ink merits special consideration. While many inks and markers and crayons will come out with standard wash, many will not. If I see an ink mark on something, I pretreat it with a specialist product, either Amodex or Carbona Stain Devil 3, Ink, Marker & Crayon, following the label directions carefully. These three categories cover 99% of my laundry woes. Ask [r/laundry](r/laundry) or DM me for advice if you have something else on your textiles. Don’t dump v1negar on it as a default. Check. Your. Pockets. I argue that it’s the responsibility of whoever wore the garment to check the pockets before things go in the hamper, barring some debility or being too young to understand the risks of not doing so (which in my case could rise to capital punishment). But it behooves the launderer to give a final check. The launderer is entitled to keep anything they find that they want, including cash, jewelry, electronics and snacks. Consider it a tip. Load The Machine: I have a 4.5 ft^3 LG front loader. Truly middle of the pack. If I’m using powders in the wash cycle, they go in the back of the drum now. We’ll come back to that topic. I add enough textiles to reach at least 75% of the way up the opening but not so many there isn’t a fist worth of space open at the top of the drum. Loading this full optimizes the mechanical action of the wash. I check the door seal drains for lint or hair or debris before shutting the door. If something has straps narrower than about 2” or is of delicate construction that could be prone to stretching (a sweater like a knit cotton cardigan, not a sweatshirt), it goes in a mesh delicates bag, alone. If it has screen printed graphics or is denim, it gets turned inside out to protect the surface appearance. If you want your jeans to exhibit more character at friction points, wash right side out. Zippers are zipped. Buttons and snaps are unfastened. Velcro is adjusted so no scratchy part is exposed. Hoodie strings are tied. When I still use a conventional top loader, like on vacation,I loosely load it dry to the water fill line that you can usually see on the agitator. I would then adjust the water fill level so, after a couple minutes of agitation, the textiles have between 3/4 and two inches of water above them. 1.5 is perfect. Chemistry: I’m a sweaty greasy mess who drops food. So obviously I use an enzyme detergent. I maintain a list at The Lipase List where you can find something you like that works with your water. I don’t care about the presence or absence of fragrance one way or the other, but if the product is fragranced it has to be unobtrusive. From an olfactory perspective, I really don’t want $5 of my perfume overpowered by $0.02 worth of laundry fragrance. As of this writing, I’m doing 85+% of my loads with 2 oz / 60ml of liquid 365 Sport Detergent from Whole Foods because it has an uncommon enzyme, DNase, that gets my clothes cleaner than my previous regimen. I’ve discussed why DNase matters elsewhere. I add 1-2 fluid oz (2-4T / about 20-40g) or so of an oxygen bleach. If a load is cotton-rich and lighter in color than “light navy”, it’s more likely to get Biz just because I like the effect of optical brightener. If the load is darker, it doesn’t get Biz - it gets an oxi without optical brightener, like Kirkland Signature (which I hate the smell of and am working through to use it up), Target’s Up and Up, OxiClean Free or 365 Oxygen Whitener. When I get to the bottom of this pile of oxi bleaches, I’ll switch to Febu to get all the goodies aside from optical brightener. The other 15% of these animal-fiber-free loads get 4.5T / 70ml ofTide with Bleach powder. It’s purely vibes and color that define which gets which when. Only things qualifying as lights or lighter get the TwB. I also use TwB on kitchen towels because they don’t get a lot of benefit from DNase - might as well save a little cash. Automotive loads get 3 oz / 90ml of Tide/Persil liquid and a cup/ 250mL of ammonia. You can’t beat the cleaning of a high-performance conventional-surfactant liquid on petrochemical soils. Ammonia helps the grease removal. I am a massive fan of citric acid rinsing. It leaves my cottons cottonier, my polyesters slicker and my animal fibers softer and smoother. I use a shade over 2 tsp / 10g citric acid crystals right in the softener dispenser. My machine likes the dry just fine and I don’t get residual crunchies after the wash. YMMV. Details of the Why of citric rinsing here Wash (Finally): TL;DR - warm water, Normal cycle, extra rinses, adjusting soil level as appropriate with just enough detergent to do the job, citric acid in the rinse. Wash Action: I generally wash on Normal because these items are Normal. I usually set the soil level to the maximum - this extends the agitation to get maximum cleaning with no downside except a time penalty. Temperature: I usually select a warm wash for clothing and a hot wash for socks/underwear, towels and sheets. The exception to this is clothing with automotive soils - it gets much cleaner on hot wash because of the nature of the soils. My warm wash is about 102F/39C. Barely over body temperature, slightly cooler than I like my bathwater or shower, completely appropriate for bathing an infant. Using water of this temperature lets me use half the agitation time as I would at 82F/28C to get the same cleaning results, and one fourth the agitation time as would be required at 62F/17C. Rinses are always cold on my machine. Rinse: Yes, please. All of them. As many as the machine will let me select. Even with perfectly dosed detergent, you’re going to get some carryover from wash to rinse, and at the end of the first rinse, my clothes are still of higher pH than my tap water. That’s a definitive indication that there is still wash chemistry in there. pH is easy to measure on finished fabrics (just touch pH paper to the damp textiles and see for yourself) and it’s therefore the best proxy for rinse thoroughness. Three gallons of extra water for each rinse cycle is pocket lint compared to the other ways we use water in the US, and it’s respectful to your skin and the textiles to get them throughly rinsed. My machine dispenses the softener cup in the last selected rinse, so my final pH is lower than tap water thanks to the citric acid. Spin Speed: Send it. Unless an item is stuffed or of extremely delicate construction (like a $500 bra), spin speed is a synonym for “how much detergent-infused water would you like to get rid of?” I’d like to maximize that. High speed spin it is. I then go off and ignore the machine for 2:07. It’s laboring. I don’t need to. I come here and talk about laundry. How (Not) Dry I Am: For as much time as I want my clothes to spend in the washer, and my longstanding enthusiasm for warmer wash temperatures, my feelings about the dryer go the other way. The dryer is where clothes (especially natural and semisynthetic fibers) go to die. Hot dry air is lethal to clothing. Overdrying is so much worse than any notional “overwashing”. Unless it’s a towel, if it’s going in the dryer, it’s going on Delicate, Sensor Dry, set to “less dry”, and all the “wrinkle guard”/cool down my 1987 Kenmore can muster. This leaves most cotton-rich fabrics barely damp to the touch, slightly damper at the seams. At the end of the cycle, they are room temperature and that trace of dampness ensures they never got too hot during the cycle to come up to “damaged fiber”. As a result, my lint screen has barely the faintest trace of lint from clothing loads (although, admittedly, we don’t wear a ton of fleece). Shirts and pants get hung out of the dryer, other clothing gets piled loosely in an open basket to acclimate / finish drying at ambient. Sheets get dried all the way to dry on delicate (a tiny fraction closer to the “dry” setting than the “less dry” and sometimes they need an hour laid out on the bed before they’re completely dry. Towels get dried sensor dry hot as a final microbial kill step and come out hot to the touch. If the item is more than about 75% synthetic content, it’s getting hung to dry right out of the washer. My laundry room is warm and dry and these fibers dry so quickly. Limiting exposure to heat is especially important for blends with Lycra/spandex/elastane. It’s like the fountain of youth for elastics to avoid dry heat. That’s it. That’s how I do laundry. Husband ordered me the Dyson air wrap for wavy straight hair and they sent two
As the title says I have two brand new Dyson air wraps. I opened my Christmas gift and the first one was an air wrap and the second box was another air wrap. He thought the second box was the attachments. We double checked and we were only charged for one. Should I return the second one to the company or what? submitted by /u/akOOch to r/Dysonairwrap [link] [comments]

Daughter asked for a new hair dryer
I cannot believe I just had this conversation with my daughter. She told her mother she wanted a new hair dryer and Mom said no, so she was unhappy. I came downstairs and asked what was going on. Wife fills me in. Me: "What's wrong with the one you have?" Daughter: "It sucks." Me: "No, it blows. It's a hair dryer." Wife proceeds to laugh while daughter eye rolls hard. Wife and her argue more, we discuss her doing chores to earn money to pay for it, but of course this isn't acceptable to daughter. Wife points out the existing dryer works fine - hot air comes out, multiple settings, etc. This leads to: Me: "So why do you need a new one?" Daughter: "Because it sucks!" Me: "No, it blows! We just went over this!" Cue wife nearly spilling her glass of wine from laughter and daughter sulking off upstairs. EDIT: Lots of comments. The existing hair dryer is from a well-known brand. It is clean and functional. She wants a brush-type multi-styler instead of a traditional style hair dryer. Her complaint that it takes too long is because she runs it on the warm setting. If she wants a new one, she'll have to earn it. Bank of Mom and Dad is closed. THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER! submitted by /u/dr_rex to r/funny [link] [comments]

Can a dryer really remove many pet hairs? Is it worth the investment?
Update: I'm getting a dryer today! Imma let u guys know if it works. My dog is shedding like crazy and I do not have a tumble dryer, nor do I really have the space for it in my apartment. I always air dry my laundry and haven't had a need for this machine. The dog fur is really really bothering me though and I'm trying every hack and method to control it (deshedding shampoo, frequent brushing, vacuum daily, lint rolling, fur zappers). However, my clothes still end up covered in hair and I absolutely hate contaminating my washing machine with it. I keep rolling and picking the hairs out but it's so much work and washing them absolutely does not remove any of them. I heard that a dryer machine can tumble the hairs loose and trap them in the lint catcher department, you can prevent your washing machine from being littered with hairs by tumbling the clothes in the dryer for ten minutes on a cold setting before washing. However since getting a dryer is a hassle and problem for me, I want to know FOR SURE if this method works before I make such an investment. Because this would be the sole reason I'm getting one. So dog, cat or horse owners, does your dryer lint catcher trap many hairs? Is there a noticable difference in hairs sticking on clothes before and after tumbling? Have any of you tried this method and swear by it? I'd hate to get a dryer so much, but I hate the hairy clothing way more to be honest. Especially if you get out the shower and your washing machine worked hairs into the towel and you end up rubbing dog hairs on yourself from the towel RIGHT AFTER SHOWERING ughhhhh i hate it so so much please help me 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 submitted by /u/wrwegegwa to r/CleaningTips [link] [comments]
