So I’m really struggling with what happened at my (basically) SIL’s wedding a few days ago. For context, she ( let’s call her Amy) had been asking my bf (her brother, lets call him Ted) to do a sibling dance to a slow song at her upcoming wedding. Amy’s (different dads) father died a few years ago. A big reoccurring issue though, is she is a functioning alcoholic. When she gets drunk sometimes, she becomes very touchy with Ted. Wanting to cuddle and hug, sometimes staring into his eyes while hugging him. Crawling on him. It’s been disturbing and has come up a few times in conversation prior. Ted has voiced how uncomfortable it makes him and calls her “Creepy Amy”. Their mom thinks it’s cute, but it’s very uncomfortable to witness. I’ve even looked over at her fiancé when she’s touching Ted Inappropriately, and he looks just as horrified as I do. So, Ted declined the dance after being pressured by his sister and his mom for months. He put his foot down and said no a final time. He complained to his other 2 sibling (who do not act like this ever) about how creeped out and uncomfortable he was with it. Both siblings agreed she was being weird and gross. Yea fast forward to wedding night. Everything is fine all night, regular basic wedding day and after party. Around 11:30 I take our exhausted children back to the hotel. Ted decided he wanted to stay the last 30 minutes. He was very drunk like most of the remaining crowd. I leave with his other sibling and their family, and our kids. They eventually all come back. Sleep. Pack up and go home next day. Well at the dinner next day Amy goes “I’m so happy I got my brother sister dance” in a “gotcha!” tone. I immediately am like “wait what?”. Amy says “omg you weren’t there that’s right! Ted didn’t tell you how amazing it was??? He didn’t show you the video? I sent it to him that night! It was so incredible!” I look over at Ted and he looks like he’s going to throw up from embarrassment. That turns to anger. I ask to see the video, and I was so disturbed that I had to turn it off within a few seconds. She is curled around his chest while he holds her slow dancing, and she peers into his eyes merely inches from his face. It looked like they were going to kiss it was so absolutely nasty to watch. 4 minute song btw. This went on for 4 minutes. I’m baffled everyone’s incest avoidance bells weren’t going off. It was sickening and I really do not know how to move past it. One day we will receive news that will bring immeasurable happiness to most human beings. We have never had good news for 8 billion people at the same time. In 1945 and 1969, events occurred that brought much happiness to most of the world, but this time it will be much bigger, much faster, and with social media, we will be able to share the moment with everyone. Imagine the Tik Toks when people find out the news. Entire countries celebrating, people dancing and singing all over the planet. The whole world celebrating together. Imagine the street parties, people dancing to the YMCA, days and days of joy and tears of happiness. I hope there is a video of the moment; no matter how it happens, I believe we deserve to have a video to watch for the rest of our lives. I was remotely working before it was cool. From hanging at a local coffee shop to overpriced NYC coworking membership clubs (when they actually did “something 🙃🤷🏾‍♀️”but also hella expensive). Then the pandemic hit. Soon it became short video/reel filled onslaught of y’all “tellin all your MFing business in Hawaii while at work” about how to spend your work hours. Meanwhile people like me were actually working. I always was. I just had room to work in a park at least. Literally an intergenerational snitch festival was taking place about everything that you were doing besides remotely working. I knew that it was going to be a goner once it hit fever pitch. Positives such as saving money actually worked, people/families were seemingly happy and making time for self fulfilling hobbies. Now kids being at home seems “fun” aka “whew chile” but it was happening. Overall, there are pros and cons to all of this. But people really thrived in certain ways yet somehow grew a bit apart…which I think contributed to some outstanding loneliness issues. Regardless of such once the secret got out…the pendulum swung back hard. Jobs are requiring RTOs three to five days a week. The three day a week jobs are the happy medium and remote working is slowly moving away from what it was once…even before the pandemic. I always coupled my remote work with a top tier fitness routine. I had abs 😔, dance hobbies, bike riding and a very well balanced social life. I had time to save $$ and energy to go outside for hours without caffeine. I miss those times so much. I also missing have a stable, steady full time remote (or in office) job of any kind but I will share that post subject matter for another time. It isn't her. It looks like her, exactly like her, but it's not her. That isn't her smile. I was shaking after seeing the video. I don't even know how to respond to him. I mean I know what I'd say if I could be honest but I can't because, y'know. I hate these generated videos of people so much and it's never affected me like seeing it done to her, by her dad, who LOVES tech and AI. Now her face is forever in that monstrosity's... mind?
