As visitors to Hawaii decline, risks abound
For years, thousands of Hawaii’s residents have left the Islands for the continental U.S., where better-paying jobs and lower housing costs are easier to find. While Hawaii’s high cost of living is often blamed, experts say the deeper issue is that there aren’t enough high-paying jobs in industries beyond tourism to keep up with the soaring cost of living, leaving the state struggling to keep up with the rest of the nation. It’s a striking illustration of why the state must diversify its economy. submitted by /u/thebluecastle to r/Hawaii [link] [comments]

I'm so sick of living in Hawaii.
It's not the paradise everyone dreams of. Sure, a pretty blue beach isn't far, but geez... I really wish I had friends who had the same interest. I really wish I had more forests in my area. Hawaii is nothing but a city. The prices are stupid, and the people here are always the same. The people here are messed up sometimes and do graffiti on murals ruining the vibe all the time. You like stars? You'd barely see stars here. The light pollution sucks and stargazing is impossible unless you go to the 'big island'. You like cool stuff like bracelet making? Yeah, buddy good luck finding a nice friend. Everyone must just see black and white here. If you look at the middle schoolers/high schoolers, you'll often find them looking like the same. ...I'd wish people would stop saying, "I wish I lived in Hawaii." --Colorado, Wyoming, Montana are better. RE:Live from the Ruby Princess - June 12-July 2
Thanks for doing the Live From! I alerted a friend who's doing the next sailing, and we just booked the Ruby for a Hawaii trip in January. I'm hoping the ship is still as good as when we sailed her in 2010. We're also doing an Alaska cruise on Royal Princess in August so hoping they have the same menus as you've posted!

I just booked Emerald from San Pedro even though I don't like the cruise port there!  Why can't Emerald sail out of SF?!  It will be warmer in January than SF but it is an industrial, ugly cruise port and very inconveniently situated.  Ruby is a slightly lesser ship for today's spoiled cruiser.  Its renovations were in 2018 and 2023 I've read.  The Salty Dog Gastropub is its new, unique specialty...

CMV: Hawaii is a horrible vacation place.
I traveled to Hawaii before the fires. Went to the island of Maui and Kauai. Food was all over priced, was not that good. Water is not that clear. Not a lot of places to swim in the ocean. The homeless problem is out of control and tents on some of the beaches. Don’t like that. Feels like one big tourist trap that they want you to pay out the ass while getting subpar everything. I have been to most of the entire Caribbean and can name a bunch of better islands, beaches, service, cost and food all the way around. Edit: spelling Edit #2 and view changed . I conceded that the water clarity was due to a massive storm system that went through the island the day before we got there and was still making a lot of the water rough. It did rain on and off in Kauai depending on where we were on the island. submitted by /u/Opie_the_great to r/changemyview [link] [comments]

I HATE Hawaii
This place STINKS! Think twice before CHOOSING here. If you care about guns get ready for stupid laws and fees, they hate em here. Motorcycle rider? Goodluck! You’re most likely gonna get smacked cause there’s constant traffic poor roads and TOURISTs everywhere who don’t know how to freaking drive!! Traffic is absolute ass, it’s everywhere, majority of your life will be sitting in damn traffic. People stacked on top of people. The homeless are freaking everywhere and they aren’t normal homeless… these dudes are drugged outta their mind and not the chill kind. Live off post? Betcha something of yours is gonna get stolen (cars, bikes, and anything off your porch mainly). Everything is freaking expensive but we all knew that already. They don’t like military here soooo you know there’s that. Everything is slow, everywhere has a line. Hurry up and wait on steroids but they like to call it island time. Now don’t get me wrong, there’s lots of cool things about Hawaii too… but this post ain’t about that. I wish I knew these things before I wasted my “pick where u wanna go” freebie. Fresh coconut please. Hold the spam… not my thing submitted by /u/No_Translator_36 to r/army [link] [comments]
