Cheating and winning elections is not their job. God forbid the Republicans would actually propose popular policies and candidates. Healthcare when retiring early
I’m 36 and my wife and I have 1.2m invested with young kids so we’re a long long way from retirement. Given that, I haven’t even started to think about healthcare if we were to retire early. Every time I talk to someone older about retirement the first thing they mention is healthcare costs. Most of the people saying this I would think make good money too. I work for a company’s corporate office where people have great salaries and seems like everyone plans to retire at 65 so they can get healthcare. Is healthcare really that expensive if you retire before 65? I’ve always wanted to retire by 50 or 55 at the latest but seems like everyone waits until 65 because health care must be such a financial burden. How much should I expect to add to my annual expenses for healthcare costs if I retire early? Also just trying to understand why it’s such a concern for so many people, Is it just that most people don’t plan adequately for retirement? One of our VPs retired at 60 and some of the other company leadership were questioning how he was able to until someone else mentioned “well he can go on his wife’s healthcare”. Everyone seemed to understand after that was brought up. submitted by /u/Sir_Loin_6969 to r/Fire [link] [comments]

Why the U.S. Spends So Much on Healthcare
Americans spend more on healthcare than anyone else in the world. Just insuring a family here costs nearly $27,000 a year, enough to buy a car. The main cause: Prices are far higher in the U.S. for the same medical products and services, from surgeries to drugs. American patients have also been using more care recently, including costly hospital treatment and expensive new drugs for weight loss. That has pushed up spending as well. Submission Statement: article goes in depth on why healthcare costs so much, ranging from prescription drugs, hospital consolidation, labor costs, among other things submitted by /u/Easy-Hat-4773 to r/neoliberal [link] [comments]

What do you do for healthcare?
Question for folks FIREing in the US. My current path has me capable to retire at 60 (which isn't super early, I know) but I would have to figure out health insurance for the 7 years to get both me and the wife to Medicare. Do you all include some kind of estimate for health care in your calculations for the FIRE trigger point? Just assume you will be healthy? Plan to move somewhere with better healthcare options?
