cat constantly crying update 2
Hello. Long post incoming. This is an update to this post https://www.reddit.com/r/catquestions/s/CghiflPtvm couldn’t tell you what happened to my old account if mods want to verify i’m the owner of this cat id be happy to do so. I have pictures and vet statements i cant attach as you can only add one video per post it seems. I wanted to use the one people might be familiar with prelude: if you don’t want to read this long ass post then don’t! I don’t blame you, I probably wouldn’t either lol , but please do not comment unless you read the whole thing because I swear I answer most questions about my cat’s behavior and our situation . I’ll be happy to answer anything I haven’t in the comments. I’m willing to try anything within reason. Im not sure if anyone will remember but a few months ago I posted about my cat (same video above i can’t seem to attach more than one video so i’ll use the one that might be familiar to some people) disclaimer: I’m really just troubleshooting here this doesn’t replace me trying to work it out with my vet. I’ve seen 2 neurological specialists and 3 normal vets. I talked to two behavioralists and they were very useless and very overpriced so I’m not considering seeing another one. (the advice was deadass to sing to my cat and see if that help and he told me to throw a blanket over my cat and forcibly hug him to create “a bond” and the other one told me my cat sensed I was annoyed by him and was meowing to say sorry and told me to meow back…when I told her I already tried that she literally said “Well I don’t know how to help someone who hates their cat” so yay!!! (for the record I don’t hate him I was just explaining his habits as neutrally as I could) That was $2,500. I can’t find more options for less than $500 per appointment l and there aren’t any credentials for being an animal behaviorist so i’m just wary of it now. It’s way cheaper to go to an actual veterinary professional. What i’ve tried: I’ve had my cat on prozac, sertaline and more recently gabapentin. I’ve tried CBD treats on occasion and I have a feilway. I live in the city so he can’t go outside. He has never been outside ever. He is fixed and has cat trees, scratching posts and I try to play with him daily with lasers, springs, feathers and cat wands but he’s just not interested in playing with any toys i have tried. He likes to scratch and lay by the window but he’ll bolt in you get within a few feet of him. He is aloof and doesn’t like to be touched, he doesn’t like puzzle treats and isn’t the brightest. I’ve held him one when I brought him home and once when I bathed him lol I don’t think i’ve ever been able to pet him but sometimes he’ll sit next to me. Main post: The issue is as follows. A year and a half ago I got him from a shelter and he has an issue with constant crying since day 1. He screams constantly and doesn’t stop even if he’s laying down and seemingly comfortable, he does it when he uses his scratch posts and only stops while he’s eating or drinking and can’t use his mouth. He stops when he sleeps but I swear he only sleeps when i’m out of the apartment. Longest break i’ve had since living with him was about 30 minutes before he started up again. At first I thought he was stressed because of the shelter and then stressed because of a new home but the issue has never gone away. He’s 3 years old (he was just bathed in this video his fur is normally in good condition. He has been bathed once in his life and it’s not relevant to the crying. He needed a bath I don’t bathe him regularly, the bath is completely irrelevant to this issue) I’ve gotten bloodwork done, x-rays, fecal tests, infectious disease testing, radiographs (might not be what they’re called but I mean radiology imagining) ultrasounds, CT scans, an MRI, a dental checkup, urinalysis, 2 different metabolic tests, and a gastrointestinal check to rule out any medical issues. He doesn’t have any, and my vets have let me know that there really aren’t any more tests to run. Considering he has no symptoms other than being vocal they have said it’s just a quirk or anxiety. So we put him on sertaline to see if it would help, then prozac when it didn’t, and then gabapentin. All failed and the gabapentin made him aggressive…like genuinely vicious, he would lunge at me whenever I walked in my apartment so we took him off it after the symptoms started. He didn’t any aggression issues before. He isn’t medicated anymore and his behavior is better but still worse than before the gab. Hes still having troubles with aggression and putting him on gabapentin was definitely a big mistake. We waited 6 months for each of the anti-anxiety meds before switching. My vets don’t believe he has anxiety anymore because he shows no symptoms (minus the yelling) and anti-anxiety medications haven’t changed his behavior. HE IS ALSO NOT DEAF OR BLIND. He responds to sound constantly and passed 3 separate BARE tests. His teeth have also been checked. I free feed him because he doesn’t overeat and is on the skinnier side so he can eat whatever, I’ve tried different food but right now he gets wet food for dinner and breakfast and dry kibble left out throughout the day he’ll munch on. He gets royal canin. He eats at 8am and then at 8pm and his dry food is left out thought he usually just has a couple bites. He likes fish but he doesn’t like any cat treats including churu’s and temptations. He only stops crying when there is food in his mouth and he’s not very food motivated. He lives with me in my apartment but I am moving next week, and he has plenty of toys scratch posts, trees and enrichment. I try to play with him for an hour a day but he is not a very playful cat and he usually just walks away from me when I try to play, he doesn’t play by himself either. If I approach him he runs off, he doesn’t like people and doesn’t care to be pet. He used to sometimes sit with me before the gabapentin but now he is hissy with me and gets angry if i’m the same room as him. He’s bitten and scratched me kinda whenever he’s seen me since then so I try to avoid him. I did not try to avoid him before. But before this he was always crying too. It stops when I leave the house- I know this because I set up a camera with audio and he will stop crying when he knows I’m gone. I’ve had friends watch him (only overnight never for more than 12 hours because i’m not evil) and he cries then too. He is also too aggressive with strangers after the gabapentin sideffects so I can’t leave him anymore since I don’t want anyone getting hurt. If I follow him he hides and continues to cry, he has gotten aggressive before when I follow him (this happened even before the side effects) so I just leave him be. He’s a very independent and aloof cat. his background: He was the single kitten of a stray mom cat, they were not bonded and were separated when my cat was like 10 weeks old, the mom cat was adopted out and my cat stayed in the shelter untill I adopted him when he was 2. This is typical. I was not told about the crying issue and was immediately blocked on social media and on imessage after adopting my cat and the shelter has not helped. They’ve since closed down and don’t take animals anymore. My cat has never been outside, I tried to take him out in a stroller and he got a little viscous so I don’t think i’ll be doing that again. I have no idea where mom cat is and I can’t reunite them to see if it would help. “hE nEeDs a FrIeNd!!!!”—6 months ago I got him a cat friend. I received a lot of comments and dms telling me having a single cat was neglect and it would solve the issue and I let emotions go to my head and made a dumb choice. I adopted a cat from my local (different than the one i got OG cat at) shelter and kept them separated in different rooms and didn’t let them interact for a week then I started scent swapping their blankets and beds , and 14 days after adopting the new cat I swapped their places by putting them in eachtohers rooms (my OG cat still got to free roam I just kept my new cat in my study room (2 bedroom apartment) This is whenOG cat started hissing so I started back at square one. (all of this was before the gabapentin and his aggression issues) I started again and I kept them fully separated for another week then began swapping their scents again- OG cat started hissing at new cats scent which he didn’t do before so I started again and kept them apart for 2 weeks- they’ve been living together for a month at this point. I tried again and this time was able to let them see each other without issue so I let them meet face to face but my OG cat attacked the new cat so I started over and know I can’t get past the scent swapping without both of them hissing and growling. I kept them fully separated-but the my new cat would constantly pee himself because my OG cat cries scare him. I gave him to a friend and the new cat is doing great now. Please no comments on me being a cat abuser for rehoming him, he has a great life now and my apartment wasn’t a good environment for him. He has a better life now than he did with me. Where am at now: I don’t know what else to do, the crying is so bad I hallucinate hearing it when i’m not home and I can’t sleep at my apartment anymore either. Yay! I don’t really have a life anymore and Im probably leaving college after this semester because of how this all has effected my mental health I spent all my savings (literally 20k but it was a lot to me(my fault I know i feel stupid about it already). I also have to leave my apartment after this month because the crying got so bad my neighbors complained .This has all apparently built up over a year and a half and the landlord isn’t going to rent to me anymore (which is fair,) but I was never once told the neighbors complained about the cat so this was kinda a shock (but that’s kinda on me for not realizing.) So i’m sure the new place is going to completely stress my cat out and make everything worse. I know some people have very vocal cats but it’s nothing like that. It is constant endless screaming and I am desperate for help. I have tried a thunder shirt as well and that hasn’t helped. I am so desperate to get rid of this cat. I don’t blame him because he’s literally a cat, but I would do anything to get rid of him and ensure he’s in a good home. I have called all the no kill shelters in my city (yes, every single one) and all are either full or just not willing to take my cat. It is harder now that he has become aggressive. I gave him to a foster once last year and told her if she couldn’t handle it to bring my cat back to me and my cat was back in apartment less than 24 hours later. No other foster have been able to take him. I’ve had a few meet and greets (I have them stay for a full hour so they get how bad the screaming is and each of them have refused-i totally get it) These are experienced fosters through organizations not just randos on the street. They all say they will 100% be able to take my cat and then they meet him and change their minds. He is nearly impossible to adopt, he is now considered aggressive and screams 24/7 as loud as he does in this video and only stops with food in his mouth when he literally can’t yell. I have been actively trying to rehome him for nearly a year and nothing has worked out. Everyday I try to find him a new home and post about him. But my only option would be to take him to a kill shelter and I know he will never be adopted and will be put down- so it’s up to me to find him a new home. So I will probably have to keep him untill he dies because nobody else would ever want him (I’m not trying to be cruel, again it’s not my cats fault but it is the reality and I won’t lie to potential adopters because then they’ll just return him or surrender him) I don’t know what to make this better and am open to any suggestion from people who’ve read the entirety of this post.(thank you for reading I know it’s so long) i’ve reached out to farmers to see if he could potentially be a barn cat but him not getting along with other cats kinda rules that out, I got advice to reach out to the dodo and jackson galaxy and did but they haven’t gotten back to me and I don’t expect them to. It’s at the point where i’m considering just having him euthanized before i move because I think it would be kinder than surrendering him but since he’s medically healthy I don’t think i’d be able to live myself which is why i’ve had him this long. If anybody is deaf and wants him hmu. submitted by /u/Downtown_Cry7204 to r/CATHELP [link] [comments]

Is oatmeal actually a healthy breakfast every day?
I eat plain oatmeal almost every morning because it’s cheap, filling, and easy. Sometimes I add fruit or nuts, sometimes just cinnamon. But I’ve been wondering is eating oatmeal daily actually as healthy as people say, or am I missing something nutritionally by not switching it up more? submitted by /u/Appropriate-News1688 to r/nutrition [link] [comments]

AIO for taking a break from my bf after he ripped through a whole turkey at our family thanksgiving?
My boyfriend(28m) and I(27f) have been dating for almost 2yrs and living together for 6months now. I met him through my friend at a house party and we immediately hit it off. He was almost exactly like a guy I wanted, extremely tall and huge, witty with jokes, kind and well-dressed. And he was absolutely buffed. We vibed throughout the party and exchanged numbers at the end. He has met my family a couple of times after we moved in together and they absolutely loved him. My grandparents host thanksgiving dinner almost every year and we were both invited to it. I thought it would have been lovely to make him meet with them and my other family members too since my uncle's family would be there too. He had to drop his sister of at his parent's house(2hr drive) and picked me up from our house(it was an 1.5 drive to my grandparents house). Everyone was happy to meet him and it seemed like they really liked him until we sat down for dinner. We said our grace and grandpa carved the turkey started to pass it around the table, it was a regular-sized turkey like we have for every thanksgiving enough to feed 12 and still have leftovers(we were 10). Both of us were sitting at the end of the table next to grandpa so my bf was the last one to get it. There was still a lot of it left because everyone took only a little and would pass around again for more after some time. He placed it right next to him and started digging though the entirety of it. He was so profuse as my nephew said later "gobbling it up". I told him quietly to go easy but he did not listen. He started saying how good it was and my grandma had a huge smile on her face. He was eating just the turkey and my grandpa said "Boi someone really likes turkey", everyone laughed but it got to a point were everyone was talking about it. He did not take any hint and shrugged it off like a teenager. My face turned red from the embarrassed and I could see everyone judging us so hard. I could hear my uncle and his wife make unfunny jokes about it. It was finished without getting to anyone again with no leftovers. My bf is a gym freak, he spends ridiculous amount of time and money on working out, eating protein rich meals, online courses, etc. He has a set protein limit that he hits everyday, sometimes over it but never under. He also gets his protein from just the meals, no supplements, so he is used to having large meals. It has never been a problem with me and I respect his way of living if not love it. We cook together all the time and if i'm not in the mood he happily makes me a meal for me. He won't even let me contribute in grocery expenses. Because of him, I started eating healthy and felt a lot better about my life-style. After the dinner when we got into a fight while driving home. He said he had been driving all day and didn't eat anything after breakfast so he had to "hit his protein" and that he wasn't enjoying it after some time and "had to just shove it down the throat". I said if he was that hungry I would have happily made him a meal after we had gotten home but now everyone in my family is gonna talk about how you finish something made for the whole family. He had thought everyone took their share. WHAT?! He got really mad and said I'm blowing this out of proportion and overreacting over a simple meal. I snapped saying how am i overreacting if I am just trying to communicate about what he did. It was an hour long drive so things got heated up, he kept saying i'm calling him a pig for eating like that and should probably get out of his life if its such a problem because he believes he did nothing wrong and isn't gonna change himself. He persisted on it even though that wasn't my point. I got so bad that he dropped me at a gas station in the middle of night and said think about what I just did. I was terrified. I collected myself to call an uber to my sister's house and sobbed the entire night. I told myself after a week things would get clear. He hasn't texted me nor did I. I can see how i could have reacted differently but I can't get myself out over the fact that he just left me in a stranded in the middle of the night. Am I overreacting or should I make a move on making things straight? Edit: Thank you everyone for all the comments, I did not expect to get this many reactions! It really helped me to hear other perspectives and seeing how naive I was. Here is an update of what happened after i posted this: I called him to talk about what had happened, the call was answered by a women who's voice I didn't recognize (yes, it wasn't his sister, i know her voice very well). When I asked if i could talk to him, she replied "He is in a cardio session, i'll tell him to call you later". I was puzzled after this so I waited for his call imagining all the worst things and it turned out to be right. He was cheating on me. He told he had been seeing her for a couple of months, she works as a coach in the gym that he goes to. I searched her up on Instagram and she is a fitness influencer with a lot of followers(a lot!). He said she is a better match for him and will help him "Grow his career on social media"(Yes, he has a fitness channel too but with nowhere near the amount of followers she has). She had much better body than me. When asked why didn't he tell me earlier and ended things right there? He said he knew I would overreact and act emotionally immature like i am doing right now and wouldn't "understand him". He has packed my things in boxes and kept them in garage and told me to collect it or not, he doesn't care and ended the call. I started sobbing uncontrolled, my sister was beside me and comforted me. She said his "fitness influencer" gf might not even know that we had been dating and he is running after her followers not her. I started saying he couldn't do that and she replied that I'm in denial and he probably saw the opportunity on thanksgiving argument and got rid of me making me think I was the one that caused the end of our relationship. I'm taking my sister and her bf to collect my things this week and probably get a closure. submitted by /u/Ashamed_Butterfly373 to r/AmIOverreacting [link] [comments]

Settle a debate: Is this a “healthy” toddler breakfast or am I “spoiling” my son?
Me (34F) and my husband (34M) are having a debate. It’s a lighthearted one, so no need to tell us to divorce—we’re genuinely laughing as we type this. Context: we both live pretty healthy lifestyles, and honestly my husband is more committed than I am. We meal prep, we keep sugar limited, and our 17-year-old son eats well-balanced meals with fruits and veggies every day. He’s a good eater, so it’s not a battle. This morning my husband looked at our son’s plate and said something about how “it’s good to spoil him a little on the weekend.” Here’s what was on the plate: -half a banana with peanut butter plain -Cheerios -a small handful of warmed-up frozen tater tots -a cup of milk I laughed because I thought my husband was joking. To me, this feels like a totally normal, not-crazy breakfast. Maybe not the pinnacle of health, but fine. My husband, on the other hand, seems to think this counts as “spoiling.” I personally think “spoiling” would mean donuts, bacon, syrup-drenched pancakes—something that screams weekend treat. So, Reddit: am I totally underestimating how “bad” tater tots and peanut butter are, and living in denial? Or is my husband just a little too far down the health-nut rabbit hole? Will my son survive some peanut butter and frozen potatoes? submitted by /u/Important_Salad_5158 to r/Marriage [link] [comments]

Do any of you eat a healthy, savoury breakfast?
I’m starting to be a bit more health conscious since becoming a mum, but honestly when I get up in the morning I CRAVE a cuppa tea or coffee with a big slice of cake, a danish, or a pack of biscuits. I’m not overweight or particularly unhealthy, and generally have a balanced diet, but I just crave that sugar in the morning. I did a bit of research a while ago that concluded that a savoury breakfast is best in the morning for your blood sugar levels. For example in Costa Rica they might have black beans (Gallo Pinto), and in Japan I think some people have things like fish, rice and vegetables. Part of the issue is that I’m normally in a rush in the morning and cba to get up early to cook and then wash up. It’s also a case of not being able to break a bad habit! So, do any of you consistently have a healthy, savoury breakfast? And what do you have? Maybe I’ll be inspired submitted by /u/calpolqween to r/AskUK [link] [comments]

People who consider themselves healthy - what do you eat for Breakfast and Lunch?
The reason why I ask about Breakfast and Lunch specifically is because I have a challenging time finding recipes that are healthy and that taste good. So I'm curious - people who are healthy, what do you eat for Breakfast and Lunch? And do you find Breakfast and Lunch to be harder to find healthy recipes for than Dinner or no? I personally find Dinner to be the easiest to find recipes for. submitted by /u/Insightfullyeclectic to r/nutrition [link] [comments]

What’s your favorite healthy, easy to make, breakfast?
I have a schedule where I need to be up early every morning (5am) and I’m tired of consistently consuming carbs and coffee everyday. I’m starting to notice I’m gaining a little gut and feel like it’s time I take my diet towards a new direction. Ideally, I would love to start making healthy meals in the morning but sometimes I have no choice but to rely on a nearby deli and tend to always get a BEC.
