Constipation Relief Despite Extreme High Fiber Succes -- 5HTP 👇
Methane Dominant Sever constipation / slow transit sufferer At first i thought fiber was an issue but as of losing weight to much i added it tons of banana's and cassave -- i thought these would be constipatintg ( i eat up to 1KG -- 10 banana's per day which is alot -- i do eat very ripe ones) I have been using magnesium hydroxide, ginger + artichoke, PHGG fiber etc, for over a year on and off without much succes consistently. I thought the banana's / cassave we're too constating, everything felt stuck higher up in my gut. 1 Changed the following and suddenly with 40 grams of fiber intake per day I do have good bowel movements daily -- I aint sure if this was the ''missing factor'' but i really didnt shift any other variables - I added in 5 HTP with meals -- 100 mg / peal twice per day -- as someone was naming it here. (5 HTP stimulates motility) 5-HTP doesn’t directly “push” the gut—it raises serotonin, and serotonin is the key signaling molecule that -- Activates gut nerves, Triggers muscle contractions, Speeds up intestinal transit Rest of my protocol stayed the same -- - 500 mg + 250 mg artichoke and ginger in the morning + 2 glasses lukewarm water ( it does upset my stomach a lot ) so i am going to see later if i can remove them and still - 16 OZ (half a liter of) Celery juice 30 minutes after - I added in Aloe vera juice after the celery juice (2 inch of a fresh leave) , blend it and drink any time of the day or eat the 2 inch peace gel, without skin) Aloe vera is a natural laxative aswell. Anytime of the day will do. - Again Ginger + Artichoke 30 minutes before lunch -- 2,5. 5 grams PHGG with meals - Magnesium Hydroxide 1 or 2 in the morning and / or evening (you can play with this) _______________ I used different forms of magnesium before without real consistent succes for a YEAR. I even tried 7 tablets of Oxycleanse which is suppose to work greatly and way more than regular dosis. Same goes for artichoke and ginger. It seems like since i added 5 HTP (200 MG) and Aloe vera juice things are moving suddenly and it feels consistent actually, not like a ''one time'' lucky shot. So it was not ''to much fiber'' the stool also passes easily and is not hard lumps like i use to have before. It wasn't just ''hard stool'' it was stuck up higher, even a klysma/colex wouldnt get anything out of me. The Aloe vera + 5 HTP the actual biggest variable changes I made, everything else has been quit the same and despite eating much more fiber ( i went from 15-20 grams per day straight to almost 40 grams per day with banana's / cassave my bowels actually look good, not to soft, not to hard, easy to past. Also i know now that banana's (ripe ones) do not constipate and eaten on their own they even do not seem to worsen fermentation issues. The issue is that they ferment when protein/fat/food is just laying there and rotting in your stomach, not moving. Than it all starts to ferment. You could easily test this by not eating fats/protein before lunch and eating banana's in the morning (fat-free until lunch/dinner) and give it some time do not say immediately that it doesn't work or that ripe banana's are ''high fodmap'' Ginger and artichoke does fuck up my stomach, causes issues and some irritation especially taken later in the day so i take them in the morning preferably (before they didnt work on their own), so i am going to see if when i take them only in the morning and not again 30 minutes before lunch if i still will have daily bowel movements and not have upset and nausea from the ginger + artichoke combination. Still have tons of gut issues but I am happy that things are essentially moving Now. (And again it feels stable) Other things is to eat Cabbage Soup / Cucumbers daily, they are also natural laxatives. im trying to get rid of the magneisum hydroxide and oxide because according to my naturopath they take magnesium out of your and magnesium is actually needed for good gut motility. A trio-magnesium supplement is recommended; consider ''Now foods Magnesium Trio'' My naturopath says its better than laxatives like oxide that take magnesium out of your body. Will udpate this post how it goes with the 5 HTP combination as it has just been like 2-3 days but before this i was constipated for 10 days, it was horrible, nothing moving, terrible pain in the morning as of that in my gut. If ginger + artichoke also cause you issues try taking a lower dosage -- i have noticed this is also helpfull , I know that integrative therapeutics, but it still works for many people (for me it seemed to be easier on my gut aswell, i am very sensitive at this moment) For me I think getting consistent bowel movements is more important, everything gets worse when food is stuck there so i take the nausea and discomfort for Now. submitted by /u/No_Two4947 to r/SIBO [link] [comments]

How much chicken can a girl eat?! 🤢 Got the protein ick.
My doctor told me to hit 100g of protein a day. I know this is very easy for a lot of people and it’s getting better for me. Anyway, I’ve been making a lot of chicken and beef and fish. Mainly my meals will look like protein on one side of the plate veggies on the other side. It’s simple and easy and cheap. Im getting fatigued from this type of “plate”. I have so much meat in my freezer because I buy bulk with my budget (it works great). But I have no idea what to make. Please send ideas. EDIT: For context - My doctor told me to shoot for 100g of protein and 20-30g of fiber a day. This is because my blood panel came back with high lipids (yay 30s). My go-to high protein vegan meals to lose fat and build muscle
These are some of my go-to meals that check all the boxes. I prioritize protein, fiber, and micronutrients to feel my best, but I also don’t deprive myself of foods I enjoy. I enjoy eating structured meals like this most of the time, but still leave room for flexibility. That balance has been key for my long term adherence, allowing me to make progress without feeling deprived. submitted by /u/myplantbasedfriend to r/veganfitness [link] [comments]

High fiber snacks with no teeth
Hello, I've been working on upping my fiber content, and due to nausea issues typically can only eat one full meal and then small snacks throughout the day. My challenge is that I have no upper teeth, it isn't difficult to eat beans at home for a meal but for small snacks at work I'm having a harder time. I don't want to be microwaving meals or trying to eat something like mashed sweet potato as a snack. I can chew, I just can't crunch - seeds and nuts are totally out, and fibrous fruits vegetables that aren't cooked or mashed don't work at all. I've been sucking on things like cheerios which works fine, and pre-packaged pouches of purees, but those are getting expensive and I'm hoping for something cheaper I can make in big batches! I've tried making protein/fiber balls that are predominantly peanut butter and steel rolled oats, but being unable to chew the oats at all and just sucking on them didnt lead to fun times for my stomach/bathroom. I don't mind weak or uninteresting flavors, I just want fibrous cheap fuel for my body. Lots of thanks in advance! submitted by /u/SignificantCats to r/EatCheapAndHealthy [link] [comments]

High Fiber meals/ snacks recommendations
With James Van Der Beek's death due to colon cancer currently being reported in Irish media, it has lead to more discussions on the rising number of Irish people in their 30s and 40s being diagnosed with the same. Increasing your daily fiber intake is strongly associated with reducing your risk of this kind of cancer. Any recommendations of what high fiber products to buy or incorporate in the weekly shop? Or is anyone here on a high fiber diet and could detail their meal plans? submitted by /u/ellegy to r/CasualIreland [link] [comments]

9 types of fiber at every meal
Last year my dietitian recommended that I eat fiber from 9 different foods a day. I decided that I was going to create a system using Souper Cubes to get that done. I used to enjoy cooking and went through a phase of intensely hating it during lockdown. I’ve enjoyed cooking so much more since implementing this system a few weeks ago. The gist of the system is to create carbohydrate blocks that prioritized fiber and protein. My digestion and blood sugar (probably due to portion control) has since improved. Sweet Oatmeal - I add chia jam from all of the frozen fruit I had accumulated in my various failed smoothie phases (depicted in photo) - Oats - flaxseed meal - almond butter - quinoa - wheat germ - buckwheat - stewed apples - hemp hearts - agave Savory Oatmeal - I add a few slices of frozen sausage or a 1/2 cup block of kungpao chicken from Panda Express which I always have on hand - Oats - flaxseed meal - almond butter - quinoa - wheat germ - buckwheat - hemp hearts - white beans - shiitake mushrooms - sesame oil and sesame seeds - better than bouillon Rice - usually eaten with whatever fresh Korean banchan we have at home - white rice - quinoa - 10 bean mix - hemp hearts - roasted chestnut - wild rice Beans - I also thaw cubes of sour cream with these beans. I eat these with those net zero carb tortillas that are 17 grams of dietary fiber. - refried beans - white beans - chipotle peppers in adobo sauce - yellow onion - jalapeños - flaxseed meal - ground beef (sometimes) Heating up: Anyday Cookware. My preference is the square dish because it is deep enough for the height of a full Souper Cube block. Storage: IKEA stainless steel container. I keep 5 in my freezer with foods I eat at a high frequency. Smaller cube trays: IKEA has silicone-bottomed ones that make removal easier. I’m open to ideas for additional ingredients I can incorporate on my fibermaxxing journey. submitted by /u/Lanky_Necessary9988 to r/SouperCubers [link] [comments]

Easy high fiber low effort lunches for work
I work in a very busy environment and have about five minutes to dedicate towards “making“ lunch, and meal prep isn’t a great option for me because we have a food budget at work and I can keep requested groceries on site to use. However, I’m limited to a toaster or microwave for a heat source. I also don’t to buy things that go bad quickly. I m looking for healthier, high fiber, low effort things I can keep and make at work. (Fruits are not a great option because they are expensive and don’t last long, and I do not like overnight oats.) Sorry for such a high maintenance framework…any ideas? submitted by /u/MrsLaVallie to r/EatCheapAndHealthy [link] [comments]

1 month progress prioritizing protein in the am, fasting, then having dinner. I am also starting my meals with fiber
Pics from left to right: September 6th (171ish lbs), September 16th and October 13th (162 lbs). I start the day with at least 20g protein and prioritize fiber 30g a day. I’m following a diet for insulin resistance and PCOs. Go to the gym or Pilates 2x a week (I need to increase this and be more consistent). I’m also focusing on getting enough sleep because I wake up and can’t go back to sleep frequently. most days I have my protein shake in the AM and then fast until 6pm ish. I think I want to complete a 3 day fast for autophagy next. I’m trying to find a balance for my body to avoid high cortisol… submitted by /u/AthenaMSK to r/intermittentfasting [link] [comments]

Chili is actually a great weight loss food. Easy to make high-protein with lean ground beef and very filling with all the fiber from the beans.
This bowl is 500cal, because I'm starting at 1500/day with the goal of working down to 1200. Genuinely very filling portion. I find that a 33/33/33 fat/protein/carbs macro split is best for me feeling full and satisfied so I try to balance all of my meals that way. submitted by /u/yodaminnesota to r/1200isplenty [link] [comments]

How to make a meal more filling without increasing carbs too much [high fiber is okay] and without paying an arm and a leg to do so?
This may be the wrong sub, but from a financial standpoint, I need to increase how filling a meal is. I am trying to take better care of myself [I am diabetic], but I am on a reallt low income since my hours got cut after I went on leave for 2 weeks. I dont know if it is permanent or if I will have to find another jcc ob. I am looking, but I am unsure. Basically, I am tryinf to cook at home. I have 1 meal I really am enjoying. I dont know if it is just not filling, or if my prednsone is increasing my appetite. It's a fairly high dose that i will step down off of soon. I make an entirelt homemade adobo chicken bowl [It is a knockoff of QDOBA]. I am obsessed and i was buyjng jt there 3 or 4x a week at one point. At 20-23 dollars a pop. Now that i can't, i make it homemade. I use rice, which has 36g of carbs for 3/4 cup. I dont weigh it, i use a measuring cup, loosely filled [I dont pack it]. I add chicken, peppers & onions, sour cream, cheese, hot sauce, and pinto beans. For what I use of each of these things, it isn't much. But i get hungry after like 2 hours. I dont add many pinto beans to a bowl. I might adjust that first since they're hivh fiber, help control blood sugar, etc. What could i add to it to make it more filling or have on the side? As long as per serving it is not too bad, I can consider it from a financial and/or carb content stand point. Note: I will try to cross post in a diabetic reddit later if I remember. For non-diabetics: if a food has fiber, you subtract to get the net carbs, which is what i follow since fiber doesnt affect blood sugar generally. Also, food with high protein or fat content slow blood sugar spikes and dips, so don't be afraid to recommend high fat or protein foods too. I am explaining because I havr been around diabetes my whole life [lot of fam histpry with my fiagnosis of prediabetes at 20 or 21], so i dont know what common knowledge of the subject is honestly. submitted by /u/LovelyGiant7891 to r/Frugal [link] [comments]

I need more fiber in my life: please share your favorite high-fiber recipe so I can try it 🙏
I just read a recent post about fiber and realized I am nowhere near the daily recommended amount. I have been so focused on increasing my protein that I've neglected this aspect of my nutrition, so I'm here to ask for a little culinary inspiration. I'm someone who loves to cook and I've been paying much attention to my macros, and I cook all my meals from scratch, but I had set my fiber goal way too low on my tracking app out of ignorance. Oh well, today I know better thanks to this sub. I know i can look this up on the web, but I know there are people like me who are dying to share a recipe they love! So, I invite you to share YOUR favorite high-fiber recipe so I can try it, please. Thank you all! 😊 submitted by /u/ironic_croissant to r/loseit [link] [comments]

My husband’s bowels staged a coup after he tried to eat “clean” for three whole days
You know how some couples bond by working out together? Or meal prepping? Or doing morning walks? My husband and I bond by playing daily games of “what new food item will betray his digestive system today.” This week’s installment began when my husband (40M) decided he wanted to “clean up his gut.” Now, this is the same man who once deep-fried a Pop-Tart because he wanted to “experiment.” The same man who thought taking a fiber supplement and eating 20 chicken wings was "balance." So when he suddenly started Googling things like “gut health” and “low FODMAP recipes,” I got nervous. Real nervous. For three days straight, he only ate boiled veggies, brown rice, and something that vaguely resembled tofu but had the texture of a wet band-aid. Then he added a chia smoothie. Because why not throw a gallon of jelly seeds into a system already on strike? Fast forward to night three: We’re in bed. I’m half asleep. He turns to me and says, “Babe my insides feel like they’re gentrifying.” I ask what that even means. He responds by letting out a fart so long and complex it could have been an orchestral overture. I’m talking crescendo, movement changes, and a final brass section that set off the carbon monoxide detector. I left the room. The dog left the room. Even Alexa asked if we wanted to call emergency services. The next day, he started clutching his side like he was in a Shakespeare play and announced that he might have a twisted colon. Not a real diagnosis. Just vibes. So he goes to the gastroenterologist, and after several tests, scans, and what I assume was a high-stakes round of “Name That Smell,” they confirm: IBS. With Lactose Intolerance. And “mild food sensitivity to everything he loves.” Great. He comes home looking like he lost a custody battle with his own colon. But instead of being careful, he takes the new list of “safe foods” and decides that “moderation” is just a polite suggestion. He eats an entire tub of hummus, half a watermelon, and what I’m pretty sure was three servings of Brussels sprouts. All in one sitting. Like a goat. That night, he transformed into a sentient whoopee cushion. I had to Google “how to safely open windows during a storm” just to survive. At one point I honestly thought the walls were breathing. And then came The Great Yogurt Incident. I told him, kindly, to avoid dairy. He nodded. Smiled. Said “I got this.” Then I found him in the kitchen at 2am, double-fisting Greek yogurt and shredded cheddar cheese like some kind of protein goblin. He looked me in the eyes and said, “The probiotics cancel the dairy.” That’s not how science works. That’s not how anything works. Long story short: he’s now grounded from unsupervised grocery shopping, I’ve removed all dairy from the house, and he’s only allowed to have tofu if I’m watching. Also, the dog still won’t sleep in our room. He has PTSD from last Thursday’s cheddar hurricane. Marriage is beautiful. But sometimes it smells like death and poor decisions. submitted by /u/tulynx to r/stories [link] [comments]

best daily regime for high fiber?
thought i was doing good with fiber intake but since i started tracking my meals, i am dead wrong lol. i’m only getting about 10-15 grams. what’s a quick, daily thing i can do to up my fiber? i’d rather something i can just scoff down in the morning and know its taken care of edit: a lot of people are recommending foods that i eat daily - and i really mean daily, like foods that are integral to my diet - and now im wondering if my app is wrong? for ref: greek yogurt, raspberries, blackberries, bananas, LOTS of vegetables including kale, asparagus, brussel sprouts, etc. i limit starches as much as possible , but i do need to bring back oats and whole grains as a bigger part of my diet. submitted by /u/katanaparker to r/EatCheapAndHealthy [link] [comments]

TIFU by eating 2k calories worth of tortilla chips not one, but TWO days in a row.
A year ago I begun to try exercise and watching what I eat, mainly calories. Having realized I was pretty overweight during high school (175lbs at 5'8). Having a shitload of free time as a dude in my early 20s this should be an important habit to form before life actually hits me (As my older co workers put it). I’ve now reached a healthy weight range (140lbs) and I’m now experimenting. Last Friday (August 23rd, 2024 for you folks from the future) I bought a 0.9 pound bag of tortilla chips from my local supermarket, Fresh by Brookshire. A location in Northern Texas. They were called “Housemade hatch tortilla chips”, clearly store brand, store original. Had a variant called “Original”. https://imgur.com/a/Hv8zRvd What drew me to these chips, as you can see: were the macros. I’ve only weighed my food recently and have learned alot about food, caloric density, the way western society can encourage it. And slowly gravitated to less calorie dense foods, not all at once, but gradually. I feel I have a good grasp of the weight and volume of foods, 360 calories for 170 grams of chips? Large, wide chips? That take a long ass time to chew. That’s almost a 2:1 ratio, where most Doritos and nachos have a 4:1 ratio at best. I could fill a large bowl with these, and a smaller bowl can get up to 80 grams (170). That in addition to okay protein and high fiber, I can snack AND get something out of it! it sounded too good to be true! It was… As snacks on Friday, I ate a total of 250 grams, half the bag. Should have totaled up to 530 calories. On top of a chicken wrap, potato wedges, and roughly 300 grams of carrots. That night my stomach felt terrible, but I just chalked it up to the amount of fiber I ate that day. Roughly 60. Woke up the next day (August 24th) not feeling particularly hungry until after my walk. Ate a banana. Then finished off that bag of chips. Which should have weighed about 404 grams in total (Ate about 150) which should have been under 350 calories. Took a ride with my father after the gym. I noticed that despite eating 460 calories up to that point, lifting and 400 calories worth of cardio didn’t make me feel that tired or depleted. He noticed I bought the chips and wanted to try some himself, I said one pack was fine but he insisted I get two, and when I told him the first pack was gone he said I should get three. On his credit card. Despite me saying we didn’t need three Did that. Still didn’t feel that hungry until a bit later, ate more carrots. then the chips… In truth I only assumed I ate about a bag and a half that day. Maybe more. 700 grams in total that day. That’s 1500 calories of chips! Pretty insane but hey, I tracked it all, I’m still in a calorie deficit. I only ate small fruits and veggies that day aside from the chips. Worst case scenario, I worked out that day. And one bad day wasn’t going to ruin me. They have fiber and protein after all, that’s good for you! Then I posted about these chips on a subreddit. Got all sorts of flake, “You sweet summer child”. “Dude come on!” With no elaboration. Until a kind user told me he couldn’t find shit about these tortilla chips online, which prompted me to search and have the same realization. Another way to check, another kind user pointed out, the fat/protein/carb ratio. Essentially 9, 4, and 4 calories a gram each. I did the math already. The label describes a serving of 85 grams of chips, not 170, as 360 calories. The label was off by 100 fucking percent! My stomach was screaming at me the whole time about this, I assumed it was the fiber, I assumed it was just cuz I ate a ton of chips, even if they were “Good” chips. I put more stock in a government label than my body. Hell, the government probably doesn’t even know about these. Like I said, I can’t find shit about these online. They don’t exist in any calorie tracking app, last I checked not even the fresh website lists these. In reality, I did not eat 530 calories of tortilla chips on Friday. I did not eat 1500 grams of tortilla chips on Saturday. I ate 1000 calories of tortilla chips on Friday, and 3000 calories of chips on Saturday!!! Because of an inaccurate label! TLDR: I ate a shitload of homemade tortilla chips from Fresh by Brookshire because an inaccurate nutrition label led me to believe they were worth half the calories they actually were! Instead of eating 2000 across two days, I ate 4000 across two days on top of my meal and fruits/vegetables! Edit: Forgot to add, this morning, I did report this to corporate office (Accidentally saved their number instead of that store) and they’re “Handling it” but I got something to study for, been putting it off too long honestly. Need to lock in. Edit 2 (8/28/2024) seeing a lot of people claiming I wasn’t overweight at 175 fucking pounds. This was me in 2021 when I was between 168-175lbs, when I was sedentary, didn’t eat well, and didn’t exercise. This is back when I was much more dependent on my parents and followed my morbidly obese father’s advice on “Exercise” which was just a hundred push ups everyday and to load up on hot dogs, burgers, fries, and cornbread to “Bulk up”. As you can see, I was not built like the Black Panther. I was more like Homer Simpson. submitted by /u/Nubian_Cavalry to r/tifu [link] [comments]

My fiancé has high cholesterol. Not sure what meals are best!
Hi guys! My fiancé got bloodwork done recently and we found out he has high cholesterol. We are both broke college students who somewhat recently moved out on our own. We know almost nothing about making meals (neither of our families cooked much, mainly just fast food) so we are already overwhelmed with it.... now knowing we have to be on a specific diet (when we don’t even know what diet is good) is stressing us out even more. Do any of y’all have any low cholesterol recipes you like? What foods should we avoid? Thanks in advance!! EDIT: wow, this kind of blew up. I wanted to say thank you ECAH! You’ve all been SO helpful and I’m so grateful. Your advice has helped me better understand everything and took away a lot of my anxiety. Y’all are awesome. :) submitted by /u/artistic-ambitions to r/EatCheapAndHealthy [link] [comments]

TIL: Avocados are particularly filling because they are very high in fiber. Its fat is slowly digested, which helps your meal stay with you longer
